After losing chieftain after chieftain, the Birdcruncher goblin tribe finally found competent leadership in its four goblin "heroes"—Reta Bigbad the fighter, Chuffy Lickwound the rogue, Poog the cleric of Zarongel, and Mogmurch the alchemist. But it turns out leading a tribe of goblins isn't much fun, and the newest Birdcruncher chieftains are bored. In order to cure their doldrums, the chieftains have issued a new demand—find them some adventure, or else!

Eager to please their great chieftains, the Birdcruncher goblins frantically try to whip up all sorts of amusements, including goblin games, feats of skill, and a grand feast. But trouble arises in the midst of the goblins' feast for their mighty leaders—the goblins who went to harvest truffles for the feast got beat up by some stinky humans!

Now the Birdcruncher chieftains find themselves getting more adventure than they bargained for as they venture to the Bestest Truffle Field to pick up the slack for their bumbling minions. Will the goblin heroes be able to make it to the field, find the treasured fungus, defeat the mean humans, and make it back to the tribe in time to enjoy their well-deserved feast?

We Be Goblins Free! is an adventure for four 4th-level goblin characters, written for the award-winning Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. The adventure takes place near the Devil's Platter in Varisia in the Pathfinder campaign setting, and serves as a sequel to both We Be Goblins! and We Be Goblins Too!, Paizo's popular 2011 and 2013 Free RPG Day adventures!

Repetitive

***( )( )

Read my full review on Of Dice and Pen.

I love the original We Be Goblins! I've run it twice now, each time with a different group, and both groups have enjoyed it immensely. However, We Be Goblins Free! just doesn't add anything new to the series. It's the same old thing for the third time in a row. It's not a terrible adventure and played by itself, without ever playing the first two, it's probably quite entertaining. Otherwise, it's like a joke that's been told one too many times. It's just not that funny any more.

Nothing to see here move along

**( )( )( )

This module is just meh. Which is a shame, a group of us stopped playing pathfinder but came back together to play this one since we really like the first two, but this one was just very disappointing.

Fantastic Sequel - Want more!

*****

I loved this sequel. It's short and doesn't go bigger than the last few sequels but it's appropriate for the story. The author made good choices to show progression of the characters and an appropriate adventure for 4 chiefs. I suspect it's setting up for a much bigger 4th adventure.

The adventure leave a lot to the GM and the players and has much more free time to let the players act like goblin chiefs. The Pregens are built and progressed well.

One thing I would like to see if a full module focusing on these characters.

Phoned it in

**( )( )( )

I ran this module for Free RPG Day, and it seemed there wasn't much interesting going on here except what the players come up with themselves.

I'll try to be vague here to avoid spoilers:

In the first act, the games and amusements seriously lack diversity and inventiveness. Three of them are little more than repeated attack rolls, and the fourth is repeated Ride checks. There wasn't even much room for creative solutions from the PCs.

Once the combat starts, the first three fights are straight out-of-the-box encounters. No terrain effects, no deeper plot, no unusual tactics. Just "Here's a monster/group of bad guys. Kill it."

The final fight was a lot better, and had a flavorful opponent with tricks up his sleeves, and a relevant backstory that provided a crucial weakness... which none of the PCs can discover because the pregens don't have the Knowledge skill to identify it. The GM is forced to invent new ways for the PCs to learn about what they are fighting and how to defeat it.

Overall, it was just poorly designed, especially with regards to how the included pregens were built.

Fun and Fast ! ! !

*****

¡¡¡Spoiler Alert!!!

The game is divided into several parts:

It begins with games and storytelling in the village (the green goblin king, my favorite), which is pretty funny, but the systems are not particularly good (too simple, but all with fun).

After an assault a few humans, where the goblins can try, and abuse, their own special abilities.

In search of truffles there is a place for comic relief (horse poop) and two more or less heavy fighting, one of them, it seems the final battle ...

Which makes the last meeting, it is even more surprising. A Vorka rebuilt, with improved capacity to cannibalize, firing rockets like crazy, running over the goblins heads and trying to cook within herself ...

GREAT ending to this sequel of our favorite goblins.

Chronic sheet is as fun as interesting and very cohesive with previous.

and I spy Squealy Nord, squea!
These modules have been favourites with my party and they're looking forwards to a genuine goblin adventure using Poog's famous Wand of "Get Up Lazy Goblin!" (CLW) and the combined inflammatory skills of Mogmurch, Reeta and Chuffy. My FLGS doesn't do free RPG day so I've only got self printed versions. Print the three modules along with the party's pawns and you've another sale!

I wonder if it would be possible to run all of the We Be Goblins modules as a mini-campaign.

Does this mean that they may expand and continue the We Be Goblins adventures further in the future too? Are we gonna see a "We be goblins Pour!" pub-brawl adventure? Or a survival-horror "We be goblins live!"? Or am I just too into coming up with silly things involving goblins? I want to play this new one! Goblins are so fun to play! :)

I am going to be running this while I am out of town and won't be able to get to my stuff for prep.

Does anyone from Paizo mind either messaging me or putting a spoiler tag on what maps and miniatures I should bring on my trip?

Just for those of us that want to run this for local society events for free rpg day, is the chronicle sheets going to be available on the day of release? Or we going to have to wait for July 1st?

They've always had chronicles up in time for Free RPG Day in the past, I suspect this one will be no different.

My local community center's tabletop gaming group is planning to celebrate Free RPG Day with a full day event. Would We Be Goblins Free! only be available as part of the Free RPG Day kits for retailers?
Or is there a another way we could access and run it before July 1st?

Most likely not, because of contractual obligations any participating publisher most likely has with FreeRPDDay.

This is what is found on the FreeRPGDay 2015 sponsorship form.

I agree my product will meet the following:

• Inclusion of the Free RPG Day logo on the front or back of the product.
• No MSRP anywhere on the product (or a MSRP of $0.00 can be listed).
• If an independent RPG, the product should include quickstart rules at minimum, with a STRONG recommendation to include an
adventure and pre-generated characters to create a complete demo package for the consumer and retailer --- whereby 50% of the
product will include never-before-seen material.
• 100% never-before-seen material if purely an adventure module.
• Minimum page count of 16 pages (with or without cover, though we recommend a 10pt C1S color cover).
• Print and/or PDF versions of the product will NOT be disseminated anywhere else until MONDAY, JULY 1ST, 2015.
•Will arrive NO LATER than FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2015!

We're also hoping to run this during the FreeRPGDay all-day event at our local gaming store. We're just not sure he was able to get his store registered in time or not. Regardless, we're stocked.

Ask a lawyer and pay his legal fees if you want to challenge it? I don't know how contracts work when the contract has an impossible date mentioned. However, last time I checked Paizo announced that We Be Goblins Free would be made available on July 1st.

So if you want it sooner, you'd have to convince Paizo to risk the consequences of releasing before then, whatever those may be, legal, loss of good will and otherwise.

I am not associated with Paizo nor FreeRPGDay. I was just answering a question by pointing to what actually is posted by FreeRPGDay so they could take my explanation with a grain of salt and judge the likely answer to their own question.

I've contacted my local store regarding running this for Free RPG Day, and they have ordered their store kit but advised in past years they have not received them with much time to prep.

is there any way the store coordinators could get a PDF of it prior to the 20th?

No. The store may supply a hard copy when they receive the pack for a GM who needs to prep.

If our local store doesn't get it in the end, I'll have to drive 320 km to the nearest game store.

I feel your pain (kind of). Back when 'We be Goblins Too' came out, none of the local Game Stores in my city ordered any Paizo material for that year's Free RPG day.

There was much weeping and lamenting that day...

Axial wrote:
I wonder if it would be possible to run all of the We Be Goblins modules as a mini-campaign.

On paper, it would work:

"We Be Goblins" - 1st Level characters
"We Be Goblins, Too" - 3rd Level Characters
"We Be Goblins Free" - 4th Level Characters

Just be sure the character are leveled-up to the right level at the start of each adventure - just using the pre-gen characters included with each adventure should be fine for most groups - it sounds like it's the same four pre-gens included with each adventure, advanced to the suggested level for your convenience. (There does seem to be room for a second-level adventure.)

However, it sounds like there's enough similarity between the format of the three adventures that it will look sort of repetitive if all the adventures are run back-to-back(start with a bout of Goblin games or tests as a set-up to the actual adventure, leave the village, get into trouble, Goblins (hopefully) resolve the trouble.) If the possibility of repetition sounds like it could be a problem, then it's probably better to run them as one-shot campaigns separated by a couple weeks each, for a change of pace.

The repetition might not be a problem, though - it's kind of like the way that you might not notice that your favorite TV show follows a formula for each episode, unless you watch a bunch of episodes on the same day. If you can spot the formula but it doesn't spoil the fun for you, then it's not a problem.

If the repetition isn't a problem for you, then it sounds like this could work as at least the backbone of a sort of mini-campaign.

If your players want to create their own characters or if you want to expand on the three adventures, you might want to get hold of the great "Goblins of Golarion" Player Companion booklet to help fill in some blanks between the three adventures (especially Level 2), but that would surely be optional, especially if everyone's just fine with the pre-gens (I'm rather fond of them!)

(I personally wouldn't mind seeing a Beginner-Box-friendly version of the "We Be Goblins" series as a mini-campaign based on these adventures, with the Beginner Box's simplified rules and so on.)

I typically write/develop the Chronicle sheets for a Free RPG Day product in early June and release the sanctioning document about a week before the event.

I don't play as monsters. I don't even play with groups whose PC's are evil aligned. I'll tolerant a friend playing a PC that's Lawful Neutral or even Chaotic Neutral but not evil aligned and certainly not evil aligned monsters. I only play with heroes or adventures with at least some decent morals.

My group is the same, we only play heroic characters, no Evil characters, no evil games. However, we made an exception to this one. Since it was goblins and they are supposed to be mischievous, we had a TON of conflict within the party, but it was all in good humor. Everyone laughed, even if they failed at a task. When battle was struck, they did work together (mostly).

We laughed more during that night of play than during any other night of play. For these modules, you just need to NOT take the game too seriously.
