“The Deft and the Deadly” is the first adventure in a 5-book Adventure Arc for PCs levels 5-7. This product is compatible with The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. The Deft and the Deadly is set in the booming prospect town of Darkwood. Players are dropped into a boiling pot of intrigue with several of Darkwood’s elite vying for their loyalty. What side will the PCs take? What greater fate awaits this boom town and the surrounding area? Using the newly designed Coalition system, choices the PCs make can have a great affect on who they can look to for help and who might turn on them at the drop of a hat.

SagaRPG introduces four new iconic characters complete with backgrounds and side quests built into the adventure to further enrich the player’s experience – these backgrounds can easily be attached to any PC your players make. To help bring Darkwood to life, a look at over 30 locations in and around town are included in this first adventure. Many more features are also included in the 160-page product: plenty of full-color maps for locations, encounters, regional gazetteers on exotic locales and a nearby nation, backgrounds on some of Darkwood’s notables, new magic items, and a new template: the sidhe-touched.

Nice start to this adventure by Saga RPG

5/5

Firstly I wont repeat what has already been said by the previous reviewers as I agree with them. My copy of this adventure was purchased in Print edition, via amazon.co.uk, and I must say I am impressed with the amount of work gone into this one.
Yes, the paper is not glossy like the Paizo adventure paths (but thick paperstock), nor are the maps crispy clear either (however all essential maps are there and easy to use), however the story is good, and it is well scructured for newbie GMs like me, with lovely appendixes which include four pre made characters, with great premade background stories (which are scripted into the adventure should you play these characters).
This adventure takes place in a new land, not Golarian, so it opens up a whole new set of possibilities. Cant wait for the next four books.
Enjoy and Saga RPG if you reading this, sharper map images please.

I would be very interested in a print/PDF bundle. I'm holding off on purchasing hoping a bundle will be available soon.

I would be interested in a print/pdf bundle! This adventure looks interesting.

I too would be interested in a bundle! this sounds great

Thanks for your input and support! In the future we would like to offer print and PDF copies of our products, however, at this time there are no plans to make a production print run of this adventure. Mostly due to the fact we do not know how many we should print. So, the more people who buy this PDF here on Paizo's website the better chances we will have with a print/pdf bundle in the future for our adventures. It will also be a good reference point on the quantity of copies we order for a production print run.

We are working with a print-on-demand service for those people who would like a printed copy of this adventure. But rest assured, if you purchase the PDF here on Paizo's website that you will have an option to purchase the print-on-demand copy at near cost (this is only going to be an option if you purchase the PDF here on Paizo's website). Once the print-on-demand service has been tested and our sample looks flawless we will update the PDF here on Paizo with a link to purchase the print-on-demand copy.

@SagaRPG - thanks for the detailed info, I'll look forward to the a POD copy in future. I've just picked this up and I'm going through it now. Initial impressions are very good. :-)

One small thing, but something that will bug me the more I use this, the PDF bookmarks end after Act III - there are no bookmarks for half of the book.

Hi MartinB,

I'm glad you picked up your copy! Bookmarks play a very important role, especially with a PDF product. I will make sure bookmarks are in our appendix sections and update the PDF soon. Thanks for your input!

Good News Everyone!

Added 117 bookmarks and 30 links in the appendix sections to help navigate the PDF. Enjoy!

This is a perfect opportunity for a Kickstarter, because you have a finished product in hand, ready for print. So it's as safe a bet as you can get from the perspective of buyers.

Run the numbers, set some tiers that basically say: $x gets you the softcover, if enough people order, that becomes a hardcover, etc. Take a look at one of Dreamscarred's Kickstarters to get a good idea. Don't go nuts with stretch goals: remember, you already have the finished product, you don't want to delay releases by doing MORE things other than working on the next book.

My guess is that you would make a lot more money this way. Myself, I deeply prefer having the physical copies, though since you say that those who order this will be able to get an eventual print copy at near cost, that encourages me to get the PDF.

If you need pointers on where to print try mailng some of the other 3pps. Frog god games Bill Webb recently recommended

I like the flavour of this adventure, the artwork and general presentation; as well as the adventure content itself. However, the PDF renders slowly, even on a high spec PC - some pages can take a couple of seconds to display. When running on a tablet it is quite slow.

Would there be a possibility of providing a tablet friendly version?

Hi Duiker,

We've crunched the numbers, and looks like a kickstarter we shall do! Look for this soon! And, as we have said before, those people who purchased the PDF here on Paizo will still get the printed copy at near cost. And doing a production print run will lower the cost per copy when comparing the print on demand method. So, when we launch this kickstarter make sure you get all your friends to back it too!

MartinB,

Point well taken! We have been busy with the finishing touches on our second product (an Excursion from the Adventure Arc) to release near the end of the month and editing part 2 of the Darkwood Adventure Arc to release late next month. But that's not all! I've been testing a mobile optimized PDF and now working with Paizo to have this download option available soon (1-high quality desktop version, 2-mobile optimized version). So stay tuned for that!

Great News! Our Kickstarter for a print run of "The Deft and the Deadly" is now live. Search for SagaRPG on Kickstarter to find it. We look forward to providing the Print and PDF bundle on Paizo.com after it funds.

Awesome to hear! Just put my contribution in, and shared it with my extended gaming group.

Has anybody tried adapting this to fit into the Kingmaker AP?

Sovereign Court

I love the book, and I hope other ones will follow.
With adaptation, it could work well with the Darkmoon Vale modules.

So very keen, especially after EZG review. But I shall await a print version, I am not interested in PDF only.. If it ever happens. Either way good luck.

This is me as well :)

Apparently the kickstarter failed.(which was surprisingly hard to find btw, why not link to it?)

There's a print copy available on amazon it seems...

There was a KS? O.o

EDIT: Either

a) I didn't know it.

or b) I forgot about it.

Both pretty rare instances. Oo

Sovereign Court

Yes, it did not fund though, but as I was a patron for it, they kindly offered me to buy a print version. I read it, and I really enjoyed it.

I hope to see the next installments, but I tried to contact them, and got no answer so far.

There's also a print/pdf bundle available on their site sagarpg.com and a new product.

@SagaRPG: Why did the KS fail? Will you give it a second try on KS?

Posted first on endzeitgeist.com, then submitted to Nerdtrek and GMS magazine and Lou Agresta's RPGaggression and now also posted here, on OBS and d20pfsrd.com's shop.

Any chance of a compilation book and/or PDF of all seven parts down the road? Yes, I know that would be a big book.

Whatever happened with Sagarpg? Haven’t heard anything in a while about anything involving later installments for this line.
