A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 1–5.

A powerful guardian stands vigil over the ancient ruins where Venture-Captain Nieford Sharrowsmith disappeared recently, yet the beast has a weakness: a prophesied talisman now in the possession of an elusive grippli tribe deep in the Kaava Lands. The PCs must win the reclusive people’s trust and claim the prize—all before the Aspis Consortium does!

“Kaava Quarry” is the second scenario in the three-part Scions of the Sky Key campaign arc. It is preceeded by Pathfinder Society Scenario #6–12: Scions of the Sky Key, Part 1: “On Sharrowsmith’s Trail” and followed by Pathfinder Society Scenario #6–16: Scions of the Sky Key, Part 3: “The Golden Guardian.” All three chapters are intended to be played in order.

Written by Mike Kimmel, RPG Superstar 2014 finalist.

This scenario is designed for play in Pathfinder Society Organized Play, but can easily be adapted for use with any world. This scenario is compliant with the Open Game License (OGL) and is suitable for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

Very fun for a skill monkey rogue/ninja etc...

5/5

I may be slightly biased because my character really had an opportunity to shine in this adventure, but I loved every one of the encounters. The final two encounters were extremely fun to play. The final encounter might be in my top 5 favorites just for the amount of environment interaction that is required.

This one was extremely light on the RP, it was essentially moving from encounter to encounter, but I will forgive that on account that the encounters, in my opinion (as a player) were great fun.

A romp through the Jungle

5/5

I played this as a back to back with part 1 at a local Convention (luckily with the same GM).

This was an immensely fun table. Combats were interesting but the star of the scenario is the middle chase. I ave a soft spot for skill challenges and this scenario rains them upon the players. My GM for this was great at keeping the pacing fast and furious, which just ramped up the excitement and fun.

I will agree that this one ran extremely quickly, but I certainly felt like I got more than my entertainment's worth. If you're looking for something to fill an entire 5 hr slot, this scenario won't be that. But it is great for a fun time and an exciting story to tell back at the lodge. I can't wait for part 3.

Exciting but too short!

4/5

Played this today with 3 fighter-types, an investigator, and my Nagaji TWF. An awesome jungle wilderness adventure with memorable tribespeople, monster/creature encounters, and cinematic fight or flight scenes. I rarely get to play on Saturdays and was really looking forward to playing this on my Saturday off from work. Unfortunately, what I hoped to be a 4, or even 5 hour scenario since we had plenty of time this afternoon, ended in less than 2 and a half hours! Ugh! I was so into it especially with my nagaji in his jungle element! Tons of fun was had by all, though, and I hope part 3 is just as awesome but longer than this one.

4.5 stars. Would be 5 if it was longer. Like others said, only 12 or so pages of content. Add an optional encounter, at least!

Long fly ball!

5/5

I ran both parts I and II back to back at a convention a couple weeks ago.

Part II was my favorite though, and my players! Every one of them was on the edge of their seat during one particular scene that I will not spoil!

I even heard a couple people talking about it the next morning! So, great job on the authors part! If people are still talking about it the next day ya done good son!

Part one was the swing! Part two is the long fly ball! Lets hope part three will land out of the park!

Thoroughly enjoyable

4/5

Just ran tier 4-5 of this yesterday.
I was a little apprehensive about running it at first, since there are a few different things for the GM to track, but it turned out to go very smoothly and everyone at my table had a great time. The final encounter turned out particularly well, the area design helped to make it interesting and challenging.

Does this contribute to one of the factions story-lines like the other two do?

Nope, this one does not have any significant faction metaplot.

Any chance a Grippli PC might get some kind of bonus in dealing with the Grippli tribe?

I envision the players wanting to fight the dino.

Not encouraged, but…:

I can think of at least four other scenarios that present "the players shouldn't actually fight this" creatures, and I've heard that some PCs do try—and on rare occasions succeed. I would discourage direct combat, but ultimately, the players get to decide.

I knew this scenario was going to be awesome when I saw it had a t-rex on the cover. Scenarios need more t-rexes.

John, I think you need to hire me on as your QA/QC for you after you get done reviewing the maps...First it's The Silvermount Collection missing the stairs at GENCON, now this...tsk tsk. Nothing major, just the map for A3 is incorrectly labeled as A2. Cheers!

I'm confused.

Question regarding BBEG in last encounter:
The hunter has 2 animal foci, and I only see one being used. What does the cat have? This is important because the cat will possibly/likely die before the PCs even get to the hunter, and thus the hunter would get her animal foci

The same foci is used on both the cat and hunter.
