Halflings need a kingdom of their own!

Liberty's Edge

I'm officially opening up recruitment for a halfling-only Kingmaker PbP. After all, halflings need a kingdom of their own!

I'll be looking at 4-6 party members. Use 20pt buy, 2 traits (one should be a campaign trait from the player's guide), max HP at first level. No gunslingers or summoners (I don't want a huge eidolin to throw off the small-ness). Ninjas and Samurai will be accepted as a case-by-case basis - you'd better have a really good reason for it.

While this should be a slightly more lighthearted game, I'd like to see serious character submissions with a fairly well fleshed-out backstory. I'll be looking for an average of one post per day, especially during combat. Unless you give prior warning and miss 24 hours, you'll miss your turn.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Totally lurking here.

Stop being racist against gnomes!

Truth be told, I have always wanted to do an all-X KM, where X is not human. Elf, dwarf, tiefling, catfolk, doesn't matter. Everybody needs a homeland!

I'm going to lurk here for a while. Should be hilarious.

Shadow Lodge

Posting for a chance to play a halfling wish. (:<

This looks fun, I'll roll something up this evening!

I have 0 kingmaker knowledge so I will enjoy doing an AP totally in the dark. Any alignment preferences from the GM?

I have had thoughts of a halfling barbarian floating around in my head. I'm looking at either that or a scimitar and shield dervish dance fighter.

I'm in! :) Ill get to work on a build. :)

I´m interested, I´ll create the character and then ask for help with the background. It would be the first time playing pbp.

Could it be a fighter or sorcerer?

Liberty's Edge

Grab the Player's Guide for ideas on backgrounds and campaign information for Kingmaker. Everyone needs to read that anyways since I'm requiring a campaign trait from that book. Pretty much any classes are good except for what I listed above.

I read it, and I will create a sorcerer. Now I know about my background and the trait will be Issian. I´ll come with stats and background later.

Liberty's Edge

Oh, I thought of another thing. Since I'm limiting this to halflings, I'll allow alternate racial traits from the APG.

Was originally built for a Kingmaker that fell through after the the first encounter at the trading post -- would love to pick him up again if possible (obviously need to retool it based on build rules above).

Whats the gold situation? Full starting wealth by class?

Liberty's Edge

let's do average for wealth.

The Exchange

Dotting for interest will work up a character and background.

wow, I am envisioning a pint-sized paladin, strong of faith and ready to show those lumbering humans what it really means to be noble of spirit. will get a concept put together post haste.

Presenting Nazdip Stinkblade, Halfling Barbarian (Titan Mauler) who was raised by Goblins.

Ready to rock, I think.

Liberty's Edge

Oh, one more requirement - only non-evil alignments. I've seen people do Evil well and work together as a team, but it seems to be the exception rather than the rule and I'd rather not even have to worry about it.

Nazdip, isn't Big Game Hunter a campaign trait from Rise of the Runelords? I need a campaign trait from Kingmaker.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Campaign trait is Brigand (Nazdip's career after departing the swamp to make his way towards Brevoy, and also how he spent much of his life with the Mosspukers)

My other trait is Adopted (social) which allows you to pick a racial trait for a different race, and then Goblin Foolhardiness, which is a Goblin racial trait that doesn't actually require Goblin anatomy, so I'm hoping it'll be allowed.

Big Game Hunter is the level 1 special for the Titan Mauler archetype. *edit: I just looked at the feat, and it's different from this. That is +1 attack +2 damage, this class feature is +1 attack +1 ac*

There's a lot of confusion over the mostly useless nature of the Massive Weapons special as written and it's likely to be errata'd, but I'm mostly doing the archetype for theme, big game hunter, and jotungrip (starting at level 2 I plan to be 1-handing a greatsword with a shield or dogslicer in my offhand, but I might end up with a medium sized one-hand weapon in my primary hand instead (promoted to a small two-hander via the normal sizing rules, size penalty reduced via massive weapons, then wielded one-handed via jotungrip).

Lotho Hillburrow, Halfling Druid, for your consideration. Character Sheet is in the profile.

Background:

Lotho Hillburrow was wandering in the woods as soon as he could walk. Neither Rostlanders nor Issians had much use for halflings that wouldn’t fetch drinks and make beds, so the Hillburrows made a living as subsistence farmers and herders near the border with the River Kingdoms. Lotho’s talents as a shepherd meant that he spent long days with no one to talk to (save the sheep, who were tragically poor conversationalists). In that time, Lotho learned to listen. By the time he reached adolescence, he could “hear” changes in the weather and sense when the herd was upset by something. The Hillburrows’ home in southern Rostland became a landmark for the transient halflings of the area. Rumors that Aldern and Astrid Hillburrow also helped hide and guide runaway slave halflings are always denied to forces of law and order, although they always seemed to have guests.

Lotho was in the pasture with the flock when he saw his father approaching with a human he had never seen before. The strange man identified himself as Dmitri, a druid of the Green Faith. Lotho was somewhat incredulous when Dmitri told him that his sheep had spoken well of him and recommended him to Dmitri; however, the older druid’s power was not to be ignored. Lotho discussed the matter with his parents, spent two days thinking, and then wandered into the woods with the druid to learn the secrets of the wild.

Lotho is still fairly new at being a druid, but Dmitri taught him that one of the purposes of druids (one that many had forgotten in Dmitri’s opinion) was the guiding of mankind. While the wild places needed their defenses, managing the relationship between men and the world they lived in could not simply be left to the church of Erastil, a farmer’s god if ever there was one. Lotho’s good nature and talent for listening made him a good candidate for reintroducing the principles of respect for the world and the green places to the men in their castles and fortresses. When the call went out from Restov for groups to explore the Stolen Lands, Dmitri told Lotho that he should go and see about joining one of them – the place for a druid was at a ruler’s side, whispering in his ear and defending the wild in ways that did not involved death and destruction…unless absolutely necessary.

Ah, got it. You may want to add some of that story to your background.

Here is Glitter, all done and dusted (I think!)! :D

Muroi is ready, working on the background. Let me know if I have to change something.

Working on an oracle.

Background fleshed out some more.

A lot of what he's carrying are just random Goblin crap for fluff. Unfortunately the cool fireworks cost real money. :)

I spent a skill point on linguistics to know Goblin.

Very, very interested. I've been running an all halfling game, this would be a great chance to play.
I can commit to posting once a day, look at my games to see that.
I am thinking of a Ranger, probably TWF style. Paladin and Cleric has its appeal for me as well, and I'd do a melee Fighter as a halfling too. Or a rogue if needed. Ah, so many good choices for halflings.

Liberty's Edge

Right now, I'm not too worried about party composition. I'm more interested in the actual character and background, so create what you like without worrying about if it'll "fit" the group or not.

I have always wanted to do a halfling weapon finesse paladin. Plan to have high CHA and DEX and 10 or 12ST. I assume halfling armor weighs half as much. Plan on a cool name like Samiadoc Dawnbringer.

Can my Aldori sword trait be a rapier or shortsword?

On the ninjas: Would it be okay if I drew up a ninja and simply disregarded the Tian/Asian themed element fluff to the class in favor of simply playing a trickster-roguish type character. It's the closest thing besides bard to get to the 3.x factorum/beguiler/arcane-trickster type of a class.

I have a pretty fun concept I'll throw up shortly. I've also got another fun mad-hatter-esque halfling master summoner whose background borders on light hearted ridiculousness as an alternate, but you seem to not want any summoners. Since a master summoners Eidolon advances at half power I was basically only going to use it for a mount or simply never summon it in combat and instead use Summon Monster SLA a whole bunch. The idea being to ride around on the back of a flying rainbow colored platypus horse while throwing down BF control spells and throwing small critters like ferrets or wolverines at people.

My background is ready. Please, let me know if I have to do something to improve it, I really want to play.

I did some more tweaking to try to hook into the beginning of the story better.

I'm starting as chaotic neutral just because of his background; my goal is to evolve him towards good as he learns about non-Goblin society from the other Halflings.

That works for me. I'm ok with taking a few liberties for this.

Go ahead and write it up - I'd probably be ok with it.

Ehh...I like the ninja/rogue better.

Good start - I think you can do more with it. Specifically, talk about how it was that you discovered you could use magic - what occurred and how did that affect you?

Way better. I kinda like the idea of seeing how we could "reform" you. A little like Lilo & Stitch I think (it helps that I just watched that today with my kids). I like dynamic characters - could be fun.

GM, are you okay with the Pioneer campaign trait - though starting with a riding dog instead?

Cozil Cornmall is a Ranger. The cruch will be completed soon, and in this profile.

Background:

Name: Cozil Cornmall
Gender: male
Race: Halfling

Motivation: loyalty/integrity
Class: Ranger
Current Mood: jovial

Eyes: green
Hair: red
Height: slightly short for a Halfling

Main Weapon: dagger

Favourite Sin: Gluttony
Believes In: Fate
Favoured Element: Water

Sucker for: singing and dancing
Annoyed by: flattery
Hobby: whittles/carves

Satisfaction with life: 80%
Satisfaction with self: 65%

When his father said he never make anything of his life with his slinking about and swordplay, Cozil set his heart to prove his father wrong. Besides, he never wanted to join his father peddling bizarre art from across Galorion anyway. He set off to explore the world, to make a name for himself, with Miro - the family's Labrador.

His father was mad, it would seem, giving Cozil such useful advice as, Encountering a candle in a grove of teak trees is an omen of a victory unless you have a lucky charm; An entertainer seeing a dove on a cloudy day is a sign that you will soon encounter a challenge, and Always call on a deity while the sun sets. He is beginning to doubt his own sanity, as he finds himself quoting these more often, and sometimes believing them.

His mother gave Cozil a very small mahogany charm with the sun and a rainbow on the front and nothing on the back. He has wondered on this for many nights as he lay in bed as it is not anything special, like an heirloom, to his knowledge, and it doesn't even seem that well made. It now resides in a small hemp pouch in the inside pocket of his leather vest.

Cozil has a tattoo that reads Pride, Passion, Merit on the inside of his right forearm. His left upper arm is tattooed so that two of his moles make part of the six of the bright stars that form the constellation of The Horn. The constellation represents a mortal who crossed the gods. It is most significant during summer, when it appears setting towards the Southern horizon. It is related to the constellations representing a torch, a hound and a sorceror. Those born under it are often good with animals.

Interested. I'll try to put something together by tommorow.

Made a few edits to fix equipment - added the Pony from Pioneer, named him Jack, and kitted him out. Let me know if any edits need to be made to him or his background. Cheers!

And here comes another druid. Sorry Lotho, I saw your post too late. :(

Here's the beginnings of...

Cade
Halfling Illusionist

BACKGROUND & TRAITS:
Gifted Adept: Magic Missile +1 Caster Level, Noble Born: Orlovsky: Your family has a reputation for avoiding conflicts. You gain a +1 trait bonus on your CMD. Stealth—you gain a +1 trait bonus on this skill. Your family motto is “High Above.”

Cade's Mother, Sara, was a maid in the House of Olovsky. He spent his youth playing with the nobles son Devarion and they grew quite attached. So attached in fact that when Sara died of an illness Cade stayed, almost a part of the family. When it came time for Devarion to study swordplay Cade would grow bored as he was to small to join in. He would often visit the houses library at this time and read through dusty tomes that detailed the arcane arts. He found he had some talent for it and after he accidentally set fire to his desk one afternoon Lord Olovsky hired an old Wizard known as Jon to direct the young Cade in his studies. However Jon was an Illusionist, a trickster and it turned out a thief! Eventually he was caught and Cade received his portion of the blame. Both were asked to leave and not to return. Jon only received this leniency because of Cade's status in the family. Cade continued to study under the old Wizard but always begrudged the man for getting him kicked out of House Olovsky and when Cade felt he had learned enough they parted ways. Now Cade is ready to make his own story, perhaps his own Noble house in a Kingdom for his own people. A Pint-sized Kingdom!

Blinded: The creature cannot see. It takes a –2 p enalty to Armor Class, loses its Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), and takes a –4 penalty on most Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks and on opposed Perception skill checks. All checks and activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Perception checks based on sight) a utomatically fail. All opponents are considered to have total concealment (50% miss chance) against the blinded c haracter. Blind c reatures must make a DC 10 Acrobatics skill check to move faster than half speed. Creatures that fail this check fall prone. Characters who remain b linded for a long time grow accustomed to these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.

Dazzled: The creature is unable to see well because of overstimulation of the eyes. A dazzled creature takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls and sight-based Perception checks.

Well I have an empty avatar -- can pioneer grant the trait influenced to be a class trait too?

temp char stuff:

Paladin
ST=10; Dex=16, CON=13, IN=13, WIS=10; CHA=17
Skills: Diplomacy, Ride, Handle Animal
Feats: Weapon Finesse
traits: sword scion (rapier) pioneer (perception)
Temp background
A young idealist from a metropolitan community, Sam was told he could never be a knight or fighter. That didn't stop him from taking the oath and dedicating his life to Erastil. He felt a divine inspiration to spread Erastil's influence to the Swordlands.

Zadarra loves the idea of adventuring with his brother halflings!

need to adjust him a bit, i've thrown the cocnept around for diffewrent campaign ideas. Will work on backstory and such. Basically halfling bard who is loves to entertain and prank, and who says pranks can't be deadly!

I worked on my background. If you need more info about anything, please let me know.

Walthus's draw drops as he hears about the small band of small folk. "That's the best thing I've ever heard in my life!"

I actually wrote this character as the cheery and chipper comic relief for a Carrion Crown game that I got accepted to, but never made it off the ground before it was struck dead by the New Year. I'd be happy and excited to give halflings the love they deserve!

I could re-purpose him easily and am re-reading through the kingmaker player's guide to do the same with my back story and traits! Thank you for running with such a wonderful idea, I'll surely admire from the peanut gallery if I don't make it onto the field myself!

** spoiler omitted **...

Riding dog is fine. I think they fit halflings much better than ponies, personally.

Aaand the Pony becomes a Riding Dog.

Why, no, I have no shame. Why do you ask?

Shadow Lodge

Wow, I need to catch up on creation!

Kip84 here, I believe Cade, my Halfling Illusionist, is complete. Thank you for your consideration.

EDIT: just saw I picked the same Avatar as another player... I'm looking for another one now. Sorry.

There done.

Cozil is done. I found it really hard to not choose Belkar Bitterleaf as the avatar.

Cozil has set out to prove that he is not a lazy good-for-nothing just because he isn't interested in his father's business of selling bizarre art. He bought some adventuring gear with his modest earnings from dog training and set off. When he heard that a group of Halflings was wanted to clear out the Stolen Lands he knew he had made the right choice. Besides, this might even he his father's business.

Cozil is a melee based ranger who can hit hard, with good skills with tracking and animals. He has a riding dog and a guard dog, and is good at scouting.

GM is it ok if I use the scribe scroll feat to make scrolls with my starting gold? It will mean starting out with three or four scrolls instead of 2. None of which will be above 1st lvl.

Ach, I guess I can't do this on account of all the other stuff I gotta do. I'm sorry! But it looks like you've got plenty of other takers already.

Thanks. Cade's gear is finished. Really hoping to be picked. I've never played a king maker game before and halflings rock!

Welp, dotting for interest. I'll have a character up in a bit.
