The Campaign Cards series differs from past card collections, in that it features a mix of face cards, item cards, and campaign cards with hidden plot hooks that you will literally be unable to find anywhere else!
I like that there are little hints aimed toward the plot spread throughout these cards. There is individual art that is never reprinted anywhere else. The main drawback to this unique concept is that the cards are sold separately from the main book which means there is no guarantee that you will ever see the images or plot hooks available therein.
I managed to pick up the last physical copy of The Emerald Spire Campaign Cards last year, so I expect any further reviews to be rather salty and comment on how this deck is impossible to find. My advice, as always, is to snatch up anything you want to use and don't wait for the prices to come down, because they may only go up.
I would rate this 5 stars if there were more Quest Cards, and less Face Cards. The Item Cards are pretty neat, too… but what makes these cards worth buying are having the Quest Cards to hand out to your players, and hold on to as reminders of why they are in the dungeon in the first place!
PAIZO: More focus on Quest Cards next time, please!
EDIT: I don't understand the extreme low-rating reviews on this product. I find the Quest Cards particularly useful. The Item Cards are also nice: I like using handouts and props in my games, and these cards make difficult-to-find items more accessible as props in the form of cards. I can understand an argument made for 3 Stars, but certainly not anything lower than that.
This may be more related to how we game, but we found the face cards not very useful. They don't add anything to the game, really. An exception might be the harder to describe NPCs.
The Item cards are pretty generic really, so you could use them in any campaign and supplement them with the other generic adventure cards if you wished.
The Quest cards are really cool and the main reason I bought these cards - they offer a physical reminder of what quest the party is on, with a short blurb about what its about and space on the back for notes.
To improve the cards, imo, I would have liked more item cards, fewer face cards.
As a minor note, aesthetically, the quest cards are very nicely done. I find all the other cards a little "cartoony" and not as well drawn. But everyone has their individual tastes and it may be these are just not to mine.
Biggest waste of $10 I've ever spent in gaming! In the trash faster than you can say; "The Emerald Spire Superdungeon!"
Worthless IMO... Who the F*@#^ is in charge of production??? I'd be showing him/her the door last Monday!! No excuses! Too bad to... Superdungeon is otherwise awesome. These "Tools" however, are a joke!
-Gaming since redbox, first 'Accessory' I've ever felt the need to comment on. Peace.
Hmmm are those of use that backed the 2nd PFO KS getting this as well with the rest of the Emerald Spire goods, cause I did and its saying its part of an order...one which I hope will get to me soon ^_^.
