A Pathfinder Roleplaying Game GM’s Resource supplement by Marc Radle

White Moon Cove is a respectable fishing town located in a cove which acts as an excellent, natural harbour. The inhabitants of this tightly-knit community are sober, hardworking and amiable fishermen, traders and other sturdy folk making their living from the sea.

Despite being a fairly peaceful and law-abiding place, White Moon Cove still hold many opportunities for adventure, from rumours of secret smuggler activity to an ancient and possibly haunted lighthouse. Yet, perhaps the most famous reason for White Moon Cove's notoriety is the mysterious underwater edifice known as the Sunken Pyramid which lies hidden far beneath the waves a few miles out to sea. The handful of sages and scholars possessing any knowledge of this massive stone structure debate whether it is a completely natural rock formation, a natural site that has somehow been intentionally modified, or something built long ago by human, or inhuman, hands.

An Endzeitgeist.com review

5/5

This installment of Raging Swan's Village Backdrop-series is 13 pages long, 1 page front cover, 1 page advertisement, 2 pages editorial, 1 page ToC/foreword,1 page advice on reading statblocks for novice DMs, 1 page SRD and 1 page back cover, leaving us with 5 pages of content, so let's take a look, shall we?

White Moon Cove is essentially a moderately wealthy coastal town governed by a council and features a list of 9 notable NPCs, settlement stats and a list of 8 notable locations as well as a "So what's for sale, anyways"-style entry of the items available in the marketplace. The town features an ex-paladin drunkard knowledgeable about Sahuagin, a brothel hidden behind a fishmonger (imagine the smell - ew!) and information on general villager-dress and mannerisms. The whispers and rumors-section this time around is a bit on the short side, with only 4 entries.

The 2 pages of notable locations offset that, though, going into exquisite details on e.g. the amorous advances of a local trader to a notorious female captain - who might make for a good candidate for a lesbian relationship, which is implied in the subtext via her first mate. Tavenr, chapel and fishmonger/brothel make for more places to check out, as does the local lighthouse.

The final page covers trade, law & order, 4 sample events, stats for fishermen and more information on another interesting local character.

It should be noted that high-res jpegs of the map can be downloaded on Raging Swan's HP, which I suggest you do when using this village.

Conclusion:
Editing and formatting are top-notch, I didn't notice any glitches. Layout adheres to RSP's 2-column b/w-standard and the cartography is excellent. The pdf is fully and extensively bookmarked and the pdf comes in two versions, one optimized for screen-use and one optimized for the printer.

This village is interesting - in contrast to other installments, White Moon Cove is not interesting due to some cultural peculiarities, but due to something different: Author Marc Radle has crafted a village that is interesting and captivating not via its location or culture - for there's honestly not that much here - but via its inhabitants, via its set-up- and the fact that there's a long-anticipated adventure coming that will perfectly link with this one - Marc Radle's Sunken Pyramid. White Moon Cove may not be the most captivating of villages, but its characters offer a nice web of interactions and potential hooks that will make setting up the village even before Sunken Pyramid. As a fisher village with some nice potential for adventures and further support coming up, I can easily recommend this pdf for its low price at a final verdict of 5 stars.

Endzeitgeist out.

An RPG Resource Review

5/5

Wherever White Moon Cove is, I think I want to visit it! This is a beautifully-detailed large fishing village with plenty going on, the sort of bustling yet quite sleepy place that sounds so real that it must be somewhere... mustn't it?

There is an overview of the settlement, a standard town statblock, and lists of notable inhabitants and locations; then village lore and rumours. This is followed by a map of the place - a little small, but it is available as a standalone art product from Raging Swan Press as well (look for Village Map: Fishing Village) if you need a larger one or perhaps want to annotate it further.

Next the notable locations get a lot more detail, and this is replete with those wonderful little snippets that both bring the place to life and provide resources for interactions, encounters and even whole adventures if you wish to let them spawn! There are also notes linking White Moon Cove to an adventure, The Sunken Pyramid - but even if you don't intend running it, there is plenty reason to include this village in your campaign world and plotlines.

And there's more... notes on law and order, and a table of events that might happen. All stuff that can sweep your characters into the life of the place. Overall, this is well worth adding to your files however you intend to use it.

Really thrilled with the review!!! :)

White Moon Cove was a blast to write. I think folks will have using it in their games.

I'm REALLY excited for when the Sunken Pyramid adventure comes out in a few months so people can use this along with the adventure!

Reviewed first on Endzeitgeist.com, submitted then to GMS magazine, Nerdtrek and posted it here, on DTRPG and sent it to d20pfsrd.com. Cheers!

Hooray! Thanks very much as always Endzeitgeist. Glad you liked the village (and have no fear The Sunken Pyramid is incoming!)

You're welcome!

On Endzeitgeist.com, there's actually yet another new Raging Swan Press review done as well. ^^

Sorry about that. I've been releasing two products a week for much of the year and I hadn't considered the pressure I heap upon you!

;-)

I shall immediately go and have a beer to help you relax.

Wow! Thanks for the wonderful review!

I agree with End 100% - White Moon Cove isn't so much a place with lots of strange or evil goings-on (although there certainly is some of that anyway :) as it is an interesting and well fleshed out village which can easily serve as the PCs base of operations for quite some time. Especially if White Moon Cove is used in conjunction with the Sunken Pyramid adventure due out in June!

Speaking of The Sunken Pyramid, things are really starting to gain speed toward the adventure's release and I am really stoked!

Creighton and I have been exchanging plenty of e-mail back and forth regarding the adventure: discussing, tweaking, expanding ... In fact, Creighton recently asked me to send him a few additional examples from the sahuagin "sayings of the old".

As a friendly little bonus, here are two of them :)

Where is your heart?
You give your blood to each thing in turn
Carrying, you do not carry it...
To give your blood is to give your soul
To spill blood from your enemy is to know strength
There is much blood to spill - everyone is your enemy
— from the sahuagin cal’mecac ("sayings of the old")

Blinding light and flowing dark,
Life, death, strength, weakness, blood and stone
From the Time of the Seven Caves, to the Time of the End
and all is for us!
— from the sahuagin cal’mecac ("sayings of the old")

A question: if I was looking at the map of the Lonely Coast, where would White Moon Cove fit?
