Speachless and stunned in AWE!

5/5

I am a huge collectors edition guy and I would have to say that this is hands down the most amazing thing I have ever purchased. This is how it should be done. After I should this to the people who visit the gaming shop I work out, I have a line of players beating down my door to play.
Hats off to Paizo, this is just amazing and hope more future collectors edition are in the works.

What can I say?

5/5

I'd already ordered the Adventure Path, when the announcement for this edition came out. I looked at it, pre-ordered and cancelled my other order, without even looking at what I'd get for my money.
So today it arrived.
There was this huge, heavy box (13 lbs in total), on which I had to pay extra duties. Luckily it'd been labelled Books, so the amount to pay wasn't high.
And then I started unpacking.
Lots of foam peanuts and another big box, this one labelled Rise of the Runelords. In there what looked like a book, with metal casing and a heavy clasp. And in there the real book with the complete adventure path, complete with the handouts, which I love! It's so great to have them ready, without the need to print extra copies of the relevant pages.
This book looks so great, so wonderful, and the leather-like cover feels so smooth, it's better than I could hope for.
And that's without discussing the colour prints, 15 of them, each one good enough to frame.
Yes, it's been an investment, but one I don't regret.

Awe Insiring

5/5

This arrived today and I can happily say I am blown away. The production quality on this is fantastic. The book and case are extremely heavy, weighing it at a hefty 4.9kg!

The case is very well produced. The metallic trim is very sturdy and the clasp is solid - not just a token guesture, but a good, solid folding clasp. It doesn't lock, but the small latch afixed securely closes the case. The leather is very soft to the touch and so may perhaps mark a little too easilly. The case is quite thick, measuring in at around 5mm thick on all sides, and slightly thicker at the base.

As for the book, well I own the original and the anniversary. Since the content differs in only one respect I won't bother examining the content, except to say it is still one of the best AP's out there.

Now the only difference between the content of this and the anniversary edition is the inclusion of separate hand outs, neatly slotted into their relevant pages. These pages are twice as thick as the others, really being 2 pages glued together with a slotcut into them in order leave a space to slide the handout into. This slot may be the weak link her, as it could well tear at the edges if you are not careful in remiving the handouts. The book has a very thick faux leather cover - almost 5 mm thick. This is the same leather as the case and so is also quite soft and will also most likely mark a little easilly. The binding is highest quality aand I could find no defects or mistakes in the page binding, printing or production.

Now the extras. Well each of the prints comes in its own plastic envelope and neatly sits in the case, so no chance of markingor damaging. And let me say they are beautiful - well worth framing if you want to remove them. They are on a good quality glossy thin card stock (perhaps equal to the old map packs)and very well reproduced.

All in all I am blown away by the quality of this. A very worthy additon to the library of pathfinder goodies and deserving of collectors status.
I can't attest to other people feelings on the matter but I certainly feel this was well worth the money paid.

Will I use it to run a game? No. It really will only see use a collector object to show off to my friends, and peer at, Golem-like in my gamesroom (my precious). In the end I give it 5 stars because it is simply a beautiful, well produced, high quality product that I intend to use as a trohpy. If I intendedto run the adventure with it, I'd probably settle to a 4 - the soft faux leather would get damaged by repeated use and the pages with handouts would most likely be damaged by repeated use.

Wow...

5/5

I just had the Collectors Edition arrive today and nothing could prepare me for the magnitude of this product. Seriously. It is MASSIVE. I could beat a person to the ground with this tome. Give me new respect for the villain that its flavor was taken from.

The contents are top notch and make me yearn to run this adventure for a third group.

You out did yourselves, Paizo. I would like to see the inserts for the handouts done more often in future releases of the combined adventure paths. *hint hint*

Or charge for the PDF when it releases and then the balance when it ships. That's usual practice with print/PDF bundles from 3PP, isn't it?

I wouldn't recommend it. As costly as Paizo's things are, the amount pales in comparison to the price tag a divorce carries.

Ok, so I ordered it and had it placed in my 'Side Cart' so that it ships with my monthly bundle of Paizo goodness.

Does this mean a copy IS in fact reserved for me, or could it 'sell out' and I not get it after all?

Hmmmmm.....soooooo tempting. This would make a really nice Christmas gift to myself and I was wondering what to get me this year.

Then again, the expected date says November, so can we expect this sometime mid to late January?

You'll get a copy provided you've placed and confirmed your order and didn't leave it in your shopping cart (so it sounds like you're fine).

Once they're all gone, their computer shouldn't let anyone order anymore.

Or, for another thought to avoid the pitchforks and torches that might possibly come with all of that ;-). .......

I still have a few tier 1 openings for PFS GMs at Gen Con. That is 7 slots. One of the rewards for tier 1 GMs is a $10/slot store credit. Other rewards for tier 1 include free badge and a shared hotel room. So, that could fund one-third of the cost! Of course, if you wanted to only devote 3-6 slots at Gen Con, you could still net $30-$60 store credit. Food for thought.....

Then great news! You only need to fly to Indianapolis which is the midwest, not the out-west! I will be waiting for your email ;-)

And, if you bring back an ALLY from Gen Con, all of the pitchforks, torches AND boiling oil go away!

Pre-ordered. This looks great! Though now I'm having trouble e-mailing customer service about cancelling the anniversary issue. Can someone let them know for me? I keep getting Delivery Status Notification (Failure)‏ on my e-mails.

You can post a thread in th customer service forums, people cancel subscriptions and orders that way all the time.

The description says the case is 13 inches tall. My bookshelves are 13,1 inches tall...

I'll just take that as a sign, and we can't go around ignoring signs like this now can we?

Right?

Man, I would LOVE to get this, but my group is running RotR right now, and I just can't wait until November. Maybe if I could still get the PDF when the Anniversary edition ships, and just use that until November. Otherwise, it's just not gonna happen.

A few quick questions for clarification:

I just ordered the Deluxe edition, and want to resume my AP subscription with Shattered Star. Will I get the free PDF, since I'll have an ongoing AP subscrition when it will ship?

When does the 15% off for AP subscription apply? On pre-ordering, or on shipping? (I believe it's only when pre-ordering, but it should be nice to have an answer from Paizo staff)

Thanks

Ordered!! Got the 15% off, plus the $10 off shipping (East Coast, USA)...still came out $20 cheaper than retail!

Woot!

Still plan on using my new compilation that comes out next month as my "beater." I don't really intend to use the actual book from this set, but I will plan on making use of the handouts, and will most certainly be framing all of the Wayne Reynolds art prints.

This is just too glorious to pass up.

Wait, what??

Dammit! I was all set to completely ignore this, and then you had to go and do that ....

All I can say is the next minis set darn well better not be until several months after November ...

Mike, this made me so excited, I sent you a PM(after confirming it would be ok with the wife.) Then I remembered you wanted an Email, so I sent one of those. Then I read the instructions that you wanted some additional information, and sent a second Email. Sorry to flood you with all this, but, hey, I got excited that some slots opened back up. In February, it really didn't look like I'd be able to go to GenCon.

Also, you may want to note this in the volunteer thread, unless I wasn't the only one who flooded you with request(s) to join in.

Ah yeah, thanks Liz. I didn't really think it through.

It's a hidden-in-plain-sight downside of the deluxe edition, I guess. For those with an AP subscription - switching from the "standard" anniversary edition to the deluxe edition is going to delay receiving the free PDF by a few months.

I guess it would be hard to code, but it might have made a great option if people could be charged for the PDF on release of the standard edition, then credited that price back when the deluxe edition shipped (if they were an AP subscriber the entire time the book was preordered or something). Hmm, it gets complicated, I guess...

This is still an awesome product. :)

Are the WAR prints all 8X10s? If so he sells those $15 each or 3 for $30 at cons(which was the only way to get them - those are 2009 pricing, it may have gone up)... that's at least $150 worth or art prints (using the 3 for 30 as much as possible with 2x $15 left over) making the book, handouts, metal case, and shipping only $50.... I was going to skip RotRL.... but I have been sad that I hadn't bought the rest of the iconics at Wayne's booth @ Gencon last year.

Arrrgh.

You win, Paizo.

Again.

I for one, would rather something this extravagant NOT be marred by signatures. I love my signed 1st printing corebook, but it's the sigs that make it special. I fear they would actually detract from the value of this book.

Although an inserted signature page would be cool.

Wow, way out of the price range I would consider for a one shot gaming material purchase. Ill stick with my normal edition pre-order.

Congrats to all the bigger spenders! I will remain envious from a safe distance. :)

Any chance of doing a similar binding for the core rule book?

Sort of the like the 3.5 leatherbound versions?

The bindings for the normal core rule books didn't really cut it sadly, but I'd totally buy 4-5 for my play group if they got this sort of treatment :)

This actually the first time I find the special/deluxe/collectors/over 9000/limited/etc. edition of a book less appealing than the standard product.

It eschewed the awesome WAR Cover art in favor of a rather minimalistic emblem. That doesn't work for me. Especially because this way it would look completely misplaced in my PFRPG shelf.

But don't take advice from me, I'm not going to be able to afford the deluxe edition anyway.
