Sculpts are better than with Heroes&Monsters and paint job is even better than with Rise of the Runelords miniatures. Really nice job by WizKids and Paizo to come up with high level miniatures like these. I bought one brick and got very nice set of figs. Not everything I needed (it is "just" a brick) but many rare figures made me very happy as those often are ones that I'll really need. My good luck continued with two boosters, more rare figs! Nice to see that rare figures aren't too rare.

Still I have to say that you need to improve your packing. Brick had many figures loose but nothing was broken which I consider being pure luck as golem, fire giant and wyvern were all loose in their boxes. Both boosters had their large miniatures loose and one shriezyx had two broken legs because of that. I managed to glue them back but that could have been avoided with better packing.

All in all: nice miniatures with very good paint job. Some figs might be broken by larger ones but that isn't end of the world. I recommend these miniatures to all whom plan to run Shattered Star AP and of course to miniature collectors. One question remains: how will WizKids and Paizo make even better miniatures than these?

Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

I really like Shattered Star miniatures. (4 stars)In_digohttps://paizo.com/products/btpy8v0b?Pathfinder-Battles-Shattered-Star2013-02-08T15:05:00Z
Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

These are probably the most impressive miniatures Paizo has put out yet. If you keep improving your miniatures, you're going to make your older sets look drab! ;)
The elementals were by far my favourites in this set. I love the poses, I love the paint job. I also love that they released one of each core medium sized elemental and one of each core large sized elemental, instead of spreading them over multiple releases.
Another comment I'd like to make is the dramatic difference between rares and Uncommon/Commons in this set. Paizo definitely got their count right with this set!

Out of 2 Cases, I got 4 breakages in total. 2 Medium Air elementals that pooped of their bases, a wyvern that popped off its base, and a Koriah Azmeren who lost an arm (Boyfriend glued it back on for me. What a nice guy).

I'm just going to repeat suggestions I've heard that I think are great for preventing breakages in the future:

1. Twist tie ALL the larges into place.
2. Consider putting a 'barrier' between the large and medium/small miniatures in the package

One last thing I'd like to mention: I'm not sure how so many people are getting breakages AFTER they get their miniatures. In the time I've used Pathfinder Battles miniatures (Since the release of The 4 piece Iconic pack) I have had a total of one breakage (Seoni lost an arm after I decided to bring her to a PFS game for another player. Had it coming). Granted, I am also more careful with the fragile pieces (succubus with wings, skeletons, etc). I also make a point not to play in concrete floored areas or places where dropping them could break them.
So personally, I DON'T want Paizo to sacrifice detail for more durability. I don't need my miniatures to be DDM bendy.

I can't wait to see the releases for the next set. I'm sure they're just going to blow us away :)

I've not opened all of my case yet, but I've had one broken figure, and, more importantly, the Blue Dragon arrived with all of its horns broken off. In the 10 years or so of ordering plastic minis online, or in stores, I've never had any arrive broken until now. Also, when I contacted paizo support about the dragon, including an image of it, I heard nothing from them for two full business days. Actually had to call them, and the support person's response was, if it came broken, you have to send it back to WizKids. So I've done that, with no guarantee I'll get the blue dragon back. Not the kind of service/quality I've come to expect from paizo.

Update 130209: Add Boggard Bits to the list of broken figures. A rogue Hill Giant in a box smashed both hand on the Boggard in the box. Nearly every large figure that was not twist-tied down was loose in this case.

Update 130311: Got the replacement Blue Dragon direct from WizKids for the broken one I sent back. The replacement Blue Dragon only had one small horn broken off. It will be easier to super-glue or expoxy the dragon back on to its base, though, as it was only glued on to one peg and the one connected peg broke when I removed the dragon from the plastic.

Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

I concur with the other reviewers. (4 stars)Brian J. Fruzenhttps://paizo.com/products/btpy8v0b?Pathfinder-Battles-Shattered-Star2013-02-05T12:05:56Z
Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

I've had numerous complaints about pre-painted plastics over the years which have so far prevented me from buying unopened boosters. While Shattered Star still hasn't met the requirements for me to consider buying them blind, it's certainly heading in the right direction.

I purchased a set of air and water elementals, a few trolls, an alchemical golem and a glass golem. Judging by the quality of these, I can say that Shattered Star may contain some of the best sculpts I've seen on plastic minis yet. Though many are condemning hard plastic as the cause of breakage, I’ll be firmly embracing it if it means sculpts like these will be common place in future sets. Fixing a broken leg is possible with a bit of glue and a pin if necessary (though the small legs of the alchemical golem that arrived broken will prove frustrating to reattach). Fixing a sculpt that lost all of its detail to soft plastic is impossible.

As a GM, I want impressive monster miniatures to enhance my game, and have little/no desire for NPC miniatures, which tend to lose a good deal in the mass production process. This is my principle reason for not wanting to buy boosters. While it looks like this still holds mostly true for the humanoid minis in the set, some of the Shattered Star monster minis present the first cases where the extra expense and effort involved with a metal mini would not necessarily result in a significantly better miniature. I find the troll champions to be particularly well done, with clear definition in all of the details, use of a gloss on the tongue to make it look wet, and a presence on the base that is sure to make for a striking reveal when placed alongside the PCs miniatures.

The clear plastics present in the elementals and golems are a “clear” reason to purchase them over metal paint-it-yourself variants. The effect is incredible, especially in the alchemical golem, even if its overall size was a little underwhelming in person. Side by side, the large air elemental and the large water elemental appear a little too similar in color, with the air elemental being tinted a little too blue, and the water elemental being highlighted with a little too much white. I’d imagine that individual runs of these will have some variation though, so the colorization issue wouldn't affect my decision to buy. All in all, these are minor complaints in the face of an overall firmly positive impression.

Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

I've had numerous complaints about pre-painted plastics over the years which have so far prevented me from buying unopened boosters.
I'll be a cautious buyer in the future, I had five pieces that were broken.

1. Clockwork Reliquary (Large) Is held into tiny slitted areas, completely fell off. I managed to work it back in there but I don't know how well that'll hold up.

2. Numerous small pieces from the mites on spiders, these guys have been through war it seems, both my mites are fighting with stumps and their spider mounts all lost a limb it seems.

4. Shrexix? (spider thingie) Once again, busted legs.

Very distressing to hear pieces rattling around in the boxes when we open these up. I love these miniatures but I'll definitely have to re-think buying a case in the future. Wizkids needs to take less chances on their sculpts or need to use slightly softer plastics on the ones that have a lot of tiny spindly pieces poking around—I'd rather have a bent spider limb over broken off ones.

Bottom line—for the price of these miniatures I would expect much better care being taken in the design and manufacture of these.

Long time D&D miniature fan never had this happen with those.
Aarontendo2013-01-31T22:20:44ZPathfinder Battles—Shattered Star: Solid if uninspiring third showing (3 stars)Chthonian Sunhttps://paizo.com/products/btpy8v0b?Pathfinder-Battles-Shattered-Star2013-01-29T02:20:29Z
Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

This third set of Pathfinder pre-painted miniatures is both very exciting and very disappointing. The miniatures themselves continue to be well sculpted, posed, and have a few stand-outs amongst them(alchemical golem, I'm looking at you).

Most of the set, however, suffers from duller color-schemes relative to earlier sets and almost cartoonish design for too many of the monstrous figures. The smaller pieces in particular lack visual clarity and would not stand out on a busy gaming mat (is that a cleric of Zon Kuthon, or one of my 145 other evil darkly painted humanoids? And those hideous mites!)

The extremely elaborate and ambitious paint schemes for many of the humanoid pieces should be set-pieces, but are too often so off-center that half of the patterns are missing. I enjoy the detailed patterns, but I'd like to be able to see all of them.

I love many of the pieces, but the price makes it hard to justify continuing to buy entire sets instead of the handful of stand-out pieces. The first two sets had far more stand-out pieces and an overall much more colorful and identifiable theme. Unless you're rolling in money I suggest looking to the single's market and picking up the pieces that really stand out to you.

For those of you like me lucky enough to have substantial collections from earlier products, again, I would suggest looking to singles. The wyvern is particularly nice.

In closing, I would also warn that many of these pieces are relatively fragile and come off their bases very easily. Open carefully!

Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

This third set of Pathfinder pre-painted miniatures is both very exciting and very disappointing.
The set itself is really well done, with an exception or two(the Dullahan is riding a miniature pony...or is a really bad sculpt)I got mine through a different distributor and got a factory sealed case delivered by UPS. The box arrived in very good condition so mishandling can only account for so much. My set had seven broken figures (3 off bases and easy fixes 1 missing arm a so-so fix 1 broken giant sword jury is still out on a fix and 2 so smashed they are a complete wash) I realize that there will be some degree of breakage but seven in one case for the price charged is too high. In every instance the broken figures had been smashed by the large figure which had come loose. Either a better grade of plastic (or a softer not sure which) or a better means of packaging is needed here. Sending figures back to Wizkids is a hassle I shouldn't have to put up with to get a complete unbroken set and is the reason I can only give this set 4 stars.

Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

Let me start by saying these are some really amazing looking figures.

(5 stars)Cyril Corbazhttps://paizo.com/products/btpy8v0b?Pathfinder-Battles-Shattered-Star2013-01-23T17:38:37Z
Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

To be honest, I was one of those skeptical people about the Shattered Star set. I don't intend to play the AP, and I couldn't even imagine a creature I really wanted to have as a miniature from that adventure path. I was dead wrong.

Paizo and Wizkid put so much work into this set that the result is simply outstanding! Some of the minis in this set are simply some of the best I've ever seen. Some examples of those include the Alchemical golem, all eight elementals (four mediums, four larges that lean toward the huge in size), the Clockwork reliquary, the Wyvern, the Troll Champion... I could put half the set on this list easily. The details are incredible, the material and colour are amazing, and the sheer size of some larges is off the charts.

Granted, the price is still high, but I'm a firm believer that quality has a price. Thank you Paizo and Wizkids for matching the former with the latter.

Suprisingly, I haven't talked yet about the Gargantuan Blue Dragon. As some people rightly stated on the RotRL set reviews, the special miniature of a set deserves a special treatment and should be outstanding by nature. The dragon certainly does match this description, but my point is that it isn't even the best part of the set!

My conclusion will go back to the title of my review. This set is so great that it makes me appreciate the incredible progress Paizo and Wizkids have made over the course of only three sets. This bodes well for future sets, and they can certainly count on me buying their production.

Pathfinder Battles—Shattered Star

To be honest, I was one of those skeptical people about the Shattered Star set.
