The mere mention that you're about to visit a sphinx which coincidentally is also a temple to a demonic lord, is enough to set the stage successfully. I was lucky enough to bring my summoner with me, a character who loves riddles, planes and obscure deities. That I was playing out of tier actually didn't bother me and is probably what helped us survive the entire ordeal.

This scenario does a great job at combining scenery with languages, symbols, deities and planes, while at the same time being nothing more than a long but challenging dungeoncrawl. There are a couple of instances for roleplaying with NPC's, but they really aren't the major focal point of this adventure. That said, those few moments can indeed be very fun and memorable. I really do hope to see Teenoch again, though I reckon he/she/it prefers to stay hidden from a certain paladin that was accompanying us.

A word of caution is in order as the fights are indeed nasty. Even on lower tier the first couple of fights hurt, yet it does not compare to the final fight. That one can easily get a character killed, which sadly also happened to us last night. The occultist took a couple of arrows too many and got turned into a lifeless pincushion. I can see why entire parties have been butchered here.

I do have to say that it felt like the real boss in the low tier is not the BBEG, but rather his henchman. Ok, a Fireball can potentially hurt, but it pales in comparison to the damage output of that archer. That is probably the biggest complaint I have about this scenario: the final fight is fun and challenging, but the actual boss doesn't feel like being the boss. I assume this is completely different at high tier though, as is the case with most casters. It didn't stop me from having fun though, and I do recommend this scenario for prepared parties out there.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

Above anything else, I have to say this scenario is full of flavor. (4 stars)Quentin Coldwaterhttps://paizo.com/products/btpy8r0a?Pathfinder-Society-Scenario-3-25-Storming-the-Diamond-Gate2015-09-03T12:16:37Z
Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

(I've both played and GMed this.)

I really, really like this scenario, even though it has its flaws. The location is rich in flavour, but you hardly get to know anything about it, other than scene setting. Teenoch is a great character to RP with if your party is so inclined, but otherwise it's a dungeon crawl. Fights are interesting but bland; we're entering a demonic temple, why do we only fight humans and one guardian, rather than actual demons with interesting powers? The final encounter is great because of the use of party composition and chokeholds, but did the lower floor really need to be that big? I'm all for having some room to maneuver, but now we just spent multiple turns getting face-to-face with the enemy while they cast some buffs.

Minor quibble: the first encounter gives you the option to fight outside, but doesn't really give an idea of how the patrols work. I appreciate the map for some visual aid, but the encounter is much more interesting if it's inside, where the enemies are in prime position for an ambush and have the advantage of terrain.

In conclusion: Great fun scenario and I need to see more of Teenoch. Wish the story was a bit more involved and the enemy variety a bit more interesting.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

(I've both played and GMed this.)

Like most PFS games they voted to play up since in actuality most PFS games are pretty easy. Sadly for them though this was not one of those games. I really enjoyed the maps, plot, mobs and of course the end battle (although it was a b!&•& to draw). When I compare the end battle to the laughably pathetic end battle for "Our Lady of Silver" I wonder what Paizo was thinking. Unfortunately for my group about half of them had just breezed through "Our Lady of Silver" recently so were expecting another cake walk. So all-in-all a very good scenario, I would just recommend (highly) that when you run this suggest to the players that playing up would be a very very bad idea.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

So just ran this yesterday with a group that was a little over 5 in average level.
I love the theme of the temple. The ranger/rogues were typically cake walks, but compared to the guardians and Aglorn they needed to be. The description of the false gate is a bit hard to understand. I made a model with turing wheels to help make it easier for my players to understand. The last fight is awesome. All my players are just shocked when I pull out this huge map with swinging rope bridges they have to cross to make it to the gate.

So, in between an awesome backstory, great diety themed temple, and an epic bbeg fight, I can happily say this is my favorite scenario. Nudging out Rebel's Ransom.
From the title and the introduction you are expecting a pure combat scenario. Once it gets started you start to think of it as an infiltration and exploration scenario. Without you really noticing many small background details, some with a fun twist, accumulate to make the story three dimensional and the scenario come to life. Add in a tiny splash of unusual roleplay for flavor. It then delivers a powerful ending with an epic final battle in an unusual setting for control of the gate.

In summary: Solid story and background details, memorable epic combat, tiny splash of in-built roleplay, twist of fun.

Note as a GM you really need to have the map for the final battle well prepared to make its setting work.

The tiny amount of in-built roleplay would normally be enough to drop this to a 4 star rating, but its strength in the other elements more than makes up for it. The story, the fun details and the setting positively encourage the players to roleplay themselves.

I played it with a strong 6 player group that could likely have played up out of tier, so they were not strongly challenged combat wise. Yet I had perhaps the best player feedback on the scenario from any of the 50 PFS tables I have run. I will run this again.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

Perspective: GM once

No role playing but it was a fun crawl.
The Great Auz2012-07-30T02:57:26ZPathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF: Boss fight is worth every cent (4 stars)Ill_Made_Knighthttps://paizo.com/products/btpy8r0a?Pathfinder-Society-Scenario-3-25-Storming-the-Diamond-Gate2012-07-21T20:37:25Z
Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

I have only played this and have not GMed it nor read it. I played it at 6-7 Teir.

Pros:

Setting: Let me start out by saying the setting in this is super disturbing and wonderfully flavorful. When you start to go down that hallway, you really see what evil does and I am glad they don't sugar coat it. Did anyone else think of the neverending story when they saw the area?

Traps: Congrats! you made a trap that can really hurt, we need more of this. Auto damage is awesome, and makes people think, "Hey maybe ditching trapfinding on my rogue was the worst idea ever."

Fights: At this level the writer did right by punishing players for not having consumables and multiple weapon types. Bravo. Some people will complain, but that is because their GM softballs them.

BBEG: This fight was an epic battle, I will never forget it. The author used terrain, lighting, mobs to make this a sick combat that most people will cry foul, but I don't care, it is what should be expected. People coming into this fight with consumables appropriate for their levels shouldn't have to hard of a time. Everyone else should weep.

An item bought with PP: What a great idea, no let me rephrase that, EXCELLENT IDEA! Making it a non coveted item spot (Neck, headband or belt) was also a great idea.

Cons

Monsters: Would it kill the world to add a troll? or an Ogre? What about a giant Scorpion or a Sphinx, a mummy would have been nice. I mean Stone Statues are kewel but we need more monsters, sure the end boss had a bunch of different things but it is not the same. Aspis Con need to talk to their Human Resources to enlist more monstrous creatures. This is what hurt the overall star rating.

Role Play: Yeah not really applicable, standard sand box. This also hurt the star rating

The Special Item: Ok kudos for making this item purchasable by pp but 15?! or 6,000 gold, sorry totally not worth it.

Overall great job!

Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

I have only played this and have not GMed it nor read it. I played it at 6-7 Teir.

We played at tier 3-4 with a group of 6, none above level 5.

Most of the adventure is pretty standard dungeon crawl stuff, but with a couple of interesting twists thrown in along the way.

But what makes the adventure really special is the final battle. And I do mean "battle", not "fight". This is the largest, most complex battlefield I've seen in a PFS adventure, and it kept our group of 6 busy for about 8 or 9 rounds of combat, which is probably the longest fight I've seen in PFS with such a large group.

But it wasn't a matter of just hacking away at one big monster until it went down like some tough final fights in PFS. The number and variety of opponents, along with the interesting terrain features, made it a ton of fun. Every member of our highly varied team found some role to play in the overall battle at all times.

All in all, I really liked this adventure and highly recommend it.

Edit: I realized that I haven't updated this review since initially playing the adventure. I've since GMed this thing 3 times, and I still love it. The last battle is a lot of fun with every group, and some of the twists in the dungeon crawl along the way are fun to RP. Highly recommended scenario.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #3–25: Storming the Diamond Gate (PFRPG) PDF

Just played this one the other day and had a great time.
