Journey from the familiar to the foreign and help place a friend on the throne of an empire in the Jade Regent Adventure Path. Along the way, you’ll cross treacherous ice fields inhabited by arctic terrors, match wits and blades with the evil oni, and rally powerful factions to your banner in order to return a nation to its rightful ruler.

Within this map folio, you’ll find three huge 8-panel maps: one of the frozen reaches of the Crown of the World, one of Minkai’s capital city of Kasai, and one of the entire continent of Tian Xia, home of the Dragon Empires and site of the final chapters in the Jade Regent Adventure Path.

Even if you aren’t running the Jade Regent Adventure Path, the maps inside can serve as the surroundings for all sorts of arctic adventures or urban mysteries, or an entire campaign setting for you to detail on your own! The spirit of exploration calls you—are you brave enough to answer?

The Very Definition of What a Map Folio Should Be!

5/5

I love this Map Folio! I bought it on clearance just to have some more maps to hang up in my 'nerd cave' of a basement, and this one was the cream of the crop! So many of the other Map Folios have the worthless (others love them, I understand) parchment-style maps, but what I want are the Rand McNally-style/National Geographic maps!

Almost every AP is set in a different nation on Golarion. Wouldn't it have been awesome if we would have been slowly building up a giant atlas of all of the different lands by now instead of what we actually got in so many of these?

It's not too late, Paizo! Release more awesome maps like these to fill out the world so that we can all have a good squee at our basements of nerddom.

This made me buy the rest of the Map Folios

5/5

I was very impressed with this map folio, so impressed that after picking this up in a store, I went here and bought many of the other map folios as well.

It contains three large and well-printed poster maps, one of the Crown of the World, the polar region of Golarion, one of Kasai the capital of Minkai, and one of the entire continent of Tian Xia. The city map is unlabeled, the other are labeled.

The most important map to me is the one of Xian Tia, and that makes the entire folio a little mislabeled in my opinion - the most useful of the map has little to do with the Jade Regent adventure path, and is rather a poster map of the entire continent of Tian Xia. It goes more with the Dragon Empires Gazetteer and Dragon Empires Primer than with the adventure path. If you are interested in the dragon empires, this map is a must-have, as good at the poster maps of the inner sea region.

The two other maps are more relevant to the adventure path, but also of less general interest. A polar map is more of an oddity and mostly empty, and a city map is very nice if you are in this somewhat off-center city. The city does have a very nice oriental feel to it, Kasai has an oriental feel unlike the cities of the inner sea region and is very well made. I like that it is not labeled - information on city locations are in the last book of the adventure path where you also find a labeled DM map.

I can't escape the feeling that this is two half-products - a map folio for the adventure path, and a continental map of the Dragon Empires. The adventure path would have been better served by a more detailed map of the Hongal, Forest of Spirits, and Minkai area. And the continental map could have been larger, printed on two posters, and been its own independent product. As it is, the continental map has another scale than the maps of the inner sea region, which can be misleading.

Still, this is a lovely map folio, and I give it five stars for its beauty and for the fact that you really want this if you play in any part of the Dragon Empires.

Announced for January! The cover image is a mockup, and will change prior to publication.

Hurry up and post the mock up for the next item in the subscription. The next month link drops to the campaign setting products!

EDIT: And Keep Looking Up!

Distant Worlds Distant Worlds Distant Worlds Distant Worlds.

Sorry to continue the threadjack but if that is what I think it is, I've been waiting a long time for that book.

Another map product I am actually looking forward too.

Silver Crusade

I was wondering at the change in cartographer, so I checked out the new guy's portfolio on his webpage, and it's awesome! I was all set to post a full Lazzaretti fan-boi rant, but now I just can't wait until January. I just wish there was a way to get the folios out closer to the start of the AP, as this way I have to wait until the new year to start the campaign.

Oh, he did the Kaer Maga dungeons map, that was terrific. I love the stuff on his site, it reminds me of the look they used for the relaunched Greyhawk stuff back in the days of Return of the Eight, which was just beautiful.

Silver Crusade

love the new cartographer (love his artwork in Brinewall Legacy). It has a old world feel to it.

Looking forward to this one! Glad I re-upped my AP subscription, might have to try for more at some point

Looks Awesome.
You guys and girls keep it up, and one day you'll be getting all of my money, and I'll be a happy broke man.

I really appreciate the change in the map folios from very AP-specific to more about the area the AP is set in. I had canceled my Campaign Setting subscription and taken that business to a FLGS that would skip the folios for me but I'm *this* close to re-sub'ing. Thanks Paizo!

Not a big deal, but I'm just curious from the sample cover pictured above. Is Thistletop really misspelled? (ie, Thistlestop)

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw that AP #1 has the same spelling. Never noticed until now.

Judging by the cover, it looks like the Valashmai has lots of volcanoes. So I guess that's where I'll be putting Cauldron. And probably put the Isle of Dread midway to Sarusan.

I was thinking shouldn't the adventure path specific map folio be part of the adventure path subscription? It seems the ppl that would want it would be the ones running the games.

The maps themselves detail our campaign setting in a way that's useful to people who don't play the AP, too.

Liberty's Edge

This will be the first Map Folio I get (but hopefully not the last), so I'm wondering, when it says "huge", just how big are we talking exactly?

8 panels the size of a sheet of paper. Normally 4 rows tall and 2 columns wide. So for a idea just lay out 8 of your campaign books out like that to get a rough idea. Lay two books with the spins facing away from you with the ends touching in the middle. Then 6 more books 3 in each row towards you like

that is how the 8 panel map in Carrion Crown was anyways.

Wow. Thank you! I was getting it anyway, but this makes me really look forward to it.

your welcome.

You know I doubt it will but it would be neat if the crown of the world map matched up with the top of the Inner Sea Map, which in turn matched up with the Dragon Empire map to more or less make one big map. Just saying.

I've made this argument before, as I have about 3 or 4 map folios now, that I'll never use. The folios tended to be incredibly specific to the adventure path, but are sold at part of the campaign subscription, not the AP sub. It seems Paizo has listened to our complaint, but in a different and perhaps better way. The map folios, judging by the work on Jade Regent, are going to be more generic, and the adventure path specific maps are coming as a bonus PDF with layers. Not a bad solution. Hope it works well in upcoming adventures.

That would certainly be nifty.

I'm guessing (tho hoping I'm wrong!) it will be a nice large copy of the Crown of the World map from the AP, and a nice large copy of the map presented in the Dragon Empire Gazetteer. If that's the case, they're slightly different styles from each other, but I'm reasonably sure the northern extent of the Wall of Heaven is shown on the Crown map, linking those two together.

Now if only I knew enough to try mapping those three maps to a globe :)

I used to be one of those "why am I paying for the map folios as a part of my sub?" people. Now, with them being the major geographical areas and not just reprints of the adventure site maps, the map folios are something I look forward to, not begrudgingly pay for as a part of of maintaining my subs. Gonna put these up on the wall, probably, along with my Inner Sea mega maps.

We've actually been doing that since Kingmaker, and—apart from the fact that many people haven't noticed yet—it seems to be working out well.

Yay! Poster maps!

Question: As I have never bought a Pathfinder poster map folio before, are these poster maps labelled, i.e. do they come with country/city/site/geographical region tags?

I ask because the mock-up (as well as other poster map folio product images) just show blank (as in 'non-labelled') maps...

Please and thank you!

Liberty's Edge

So how does one get the bonus pdf type maps? Cause those worked well for my google + campaign map needs.

Contributor

The PDFs are given to subscribers for free when their print product ships, and we put up the PDFs for sale roughly two weeks after the subscribers get their copy.

Liberty's Edge

I downloaded my PDFs, and loaded up the Crown of the World and Tian Xia maps into a graphics program. I flipped the Crown of the World map around and... the two maps don't seem to fit together in clean fashion.

Is the mountain range at the northern end of Tian Xia map supposed to be the same mountain range as the one at the top of the Crown of the World map?

The 3 continent style maps use varied scales which is why they won't fit together without a bunch of scale adjustments. Perhaps one day we will finally reach the last product to allow for a proper world map. I think a full world map is one of the things that is sorely missing from the setting. Even if the areas are not filled lore-wise, that doesn't mean a true world map couldn't be done years ahead of time.

Inner Sea: 400/420 miles (Based off 2 maps, Inner Sea World Guide/Inner Sea Poster Map Folio)
Crown of the World: 750 miles (Based off map in Jade Regent: The Hungry Storm)
Tian Xia: 1000 miles (Dragon Empires Gazetteer)

OK, So I am just starting off Jade Regent (little late I know) and I was wondering if there was a product with all the maps in it, like the the first couple of stops in "Brinestone." I dont have a whole lot of prep time to be drawing maps that detailed so if one is already available, it would be a huge help.

I would like a giant four panel Tian Xia map to go along with my Inner Sea one.

I find it humorous that the thumbnail above shows Tian-Xia, but that Minkai itself is cropped off.

I'm torn between whether to get the PDF or Print versions. I can only afford one. Do the current map folio PDFs include both a print and tablet-friendly versions or is that just with the hardbacks right now?

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

"Tablet-friendly" PDFs of books are generally made by simplifying background graphics and other tricks that aren't applicable to products that are essentially just big maps. The standard PDF is as tablet-friendly as it's ever going to get.

Silver Crusade

Thanks Vic. Good to know.

There's a location on the map, just Southeast of Goka called "Dragon Temple". I can't seem to locate any more information about it.
Anyone have any leads?
