Tiffany skips down the steps of Starrise Spire, and stops suddenly. "Well, guys. I guess this is goodbye, at least for now. That was fun! Yet... Totally creepy. You guys really know how to deal with the worst of bad guys! I never doubted the Red Arm of Absalom, but now I've seen it with my own eyes." She looks up at the four and smiles. "You should really craft some totally cool Red Arm badge. Or banner. Or a tattoo! Aaaanyway, I'm going to check out Nerosyan Niceties before I find a ship back to Absalom. Seems like the only half-decent boutique in this stuffy town, and I'm feeling like tossing gold! Then again, when am I not? Hehe. See ya around!"

Sailing across the ocean to the frozen northern north? Not too bad. Conversing and blending in with the Ulfen locals? They enjoyed cajoling her poor health, but she would endure. But the climb up this snowy mountain on a cloudy night? Exhausting.

Sirettis pants heavily as she climbs the mountain. With the last of her energy, Sirettis flies up to the summit. The wind howls and almost blows her off course.

"You feel strongest here. It's almost impossible to perceive you. But here I am." Sirettis floats in the wind, even as it howls back and forth. She looks at Isa, tucked under her sleeves and smiles.

"Always so quiet when when I speak to you directly. When you were the only person who would talk to me, you were so aggressive. But now that I demand respect, you give me silence-" the wind blows so strongly Sirettis is blown aside, pinned against the mountain cliff. She can feel the bruises form against her back. "You kill me, and you won't have anyone left. Whom else have you haunted? How many have survived?"

The wind calms down, as if it's contemplating the next move. "I have learned to converse with people. Understand their ways. Learn how to smile and nod. Yet, I never made friends or allies. The Red Arm of Absalom belong the first friends I have ever had. I will never surrender that."

<Then keep your stupid friends.> This is the first time Sirettis has heard it since locating Ragniori. The silence was finally broken.

"Despite all of your power, you want to be recognized. You want to be known. You want friends. And so you seek the small, the meek, and you force their friendship."

A long silence follows. <What do you want from me?>

"Your friendship. No more fear. No more dominance. Seek out others who need companionship. Lift their spirits. I- I think you are good, but solitude has made you bitter. Lonely."

The wind picks up again. Sirettis braces herself for another slam against the cliffs, but instead she feels a warm, sweet wind as it gently carries her down the mountain.

<Your bravery is... amusing, albeit misguided. Go ahead, see how far friendship gets you when you feel the icy blade of betrayal through your backside. But do feel free to use my powers in the meantime.>

"Betrayal." Sirettis mumbles the word and keeps her thoughts to herself. "I pity you."

Sirettis enjoys a quiet trip back to Absalom, knowing true friends are never traitors.

D. had arrived at his late uncle's estate at the foreign quarter.

A two story building, it had a modest artifically made body of water and garden shrine. Both had been neglected for too long, with his own parents too busy traveling.

You had done well for yourself. Yet you neglected your own health, endulging too much into wine and unhealthy food.
He passed over the bridge, and slid open the door.

The maiden whom he 'rescued' earlier, greeted him with a small bow.
"Good evening sir.", he nodded back.

"I take it you have assigned Madam Zia a room?"
She nodded.
"She has one on the 2nd floor, sir."

D. was fine with it. He knew well that despite her good will, a lone maid couldn't keep the estate clean by herself.
I will need at least three of them.

"Carla, i'm heading out, i'll be back near evening."
===========================

Some time later, D. entered a small plaza, where foreign Merchants and settlers gathered. Taking a seat at a table of a small stand at the corner, he observed the people coming in and going out.

His attention was drawn, by the sudden speech of Tian Xia. A man and woman, twins likely, were seemingly stranded in front of an inn, with the owner speaking poorly the Tien tongue.
何? すべての部屋は旅館で撮影されていますか?
さて、私たちはこれらの野蛮人の言葉を正しく話しません。

Tien:

"What? All rooms are taken at the inn?
Now what, we don't properly speak these barbarians' language."

D. laughed silently.
Barbarians....hehe, oh Uesugi should have heard this.

He rose, and moved forward as he turned invisible.
Popping out of it, right in front of them, he stood stoically.

Tien:

"I have a proposal, for your predicament.
I have need of retainers for my estate. You work for me maintaining it, and you have yourselves a place to stay."

After some discussing the how and where, D. returned to his estate with 2 more retainers.

Mr Peppers sits in the library up in the Starrise Spire, pouring over a pile of old dusty tomes. He pauses a minute to gently blow his perfect, yet now runny nose. I know they're in here somewhere... I must know!. He sets down his handkerchief before slamming yet another book shut, stirring up even more dust.

He picks up another book, smaller than most. Almost as if made by the hands of someone small... The Infernal Machinations of Wizzle Fiddlebonk He sighs audibly "Oh geez, what a name. Loser!" This is one of the last few books in the stack of yet to be read. None the less he begins flipping through, scrolling through line after line of text. After a few minutes he stops, furrows his brow and drops the book to the table, sitting back in his chair and letting out a slightly nervous but mostly happy laugh. It builds over time before it starts to sound a bit on the crazy side.

He pushes himself back from the table and picks up his pack and walks out, leaving the book open on the table with the others. Across the top of the page in large letters: FLESH GOLEMS: Stitched abominations that are IMMUNE to most magics... best used to piss off know it all Elven Mages!

Gallix stands dumbstruck in front of the enormous board advertising the list of special enchantments the mages of Nerosyan had on offer to empower the weapons of those gong on to battle the demons of the Worldwound. Across the counter from Gallix, a wiry, middle aged sorcerer grins at the idiotic look of amazement and confusion on the brewer's face. "Lots to choose from, isn't there? It's hard to go wrong really, though a lot of the choice comes down to what you need most. For a Crusader, anything the demons don't like is an obvious choice, so we bless the weapons or imbue them with elemental magics that can get through their Abyssal resistances. For a Pathfinder like you though...well there's no telling what you'll be facing from one day to the next. So the choice really comes down to broad utility and style."

Gallix snaps out of his stupor at the mention of one of his favorite words. "Style, huh? Well I've got plenty of that, but how do I show it best with magic? Maybe I should've asked Peppers to come along." Once again, Gallix's eyes drift up to the board as he considers all his options. Just then, the bell above the door rings softly as a lean, but clearly athletic young woman enters. Across one shoulder she wears a royal blue mantle trimmed with gold, and hanging from her opposite hip is a thin blade in a simple but elegant scabbard. In the pommel of the sword is a glistening, deep blue gem held in a nest of intertwined silver. The woman approaches the counter and smiles at the mage.

"Hello, Arthris! I just wanted to thank you for your advice. The enchantment you gave me worked perfectly, not to mention that it saved my backside on a couple occasions!"

"Not at all, dear! Once you told me about your flair for the dramatic in combat, I knew there was only one real choice for you!"

"Flair for the dramatic, eh" Gallix chimes in, "That sounds a little like how I like to fight! What did he give you?" A few moments of explanation later, Gallix had made up his mind. The enchantment took a few days to complete, and Gallix's right hand felt rather naked without his beautiful mithral cestus strapped on, but when he finally returned to the shop to retrieve his weapon, he was glad for the wait.

He slipped on the cestus, and there, on the back of his hand, was an array of small, red gems arranged in the pattern of a flexing arm. As he wore the weapon, he could feel the inherent spirit of luck that coursed through it, and he knew if he ever really messed up on an attack, he could call on the magic of the gems for a second chance.

I've picked the Flamboyant ability! I can reroll a natural 1 with this cestus once per day! Yay!

It is the second day of the Torchbearing, an annual symposium taking place in the Grand Lodge of Absalom. Pathfinders the world over attend this event to share their knowledge, teach each other new skills, and reinforce their connections across the Inner Sea and beyond.

On today and tomorrow's agenda is a myriad of academic lectures from the study of plants, the history of Absalom, and one lecture dedicated entirely to the discussion of Rust Monsters. The more physically-inclined amongst you might find Janira Garvix's halfing-sized obstacle course a better fit to sate your desire for a physical challenge. And of course, one could not forget Sorrina Westyr's arcane studies, today covering Spell Resistance: When a Magic Missile Doesn't Hit, shortly followed by Charms and Compulsions IV: Even a Geek with a Spellbook Can Seduce.

Cheers erupt from the nearby obstacle course as Little Willy, the halfling monk, backflips over the finish line well ahead of his competition and throws a fist in the air. "I told ya size doesn't matter! Kyaaah!" He runs through Mr. Peppers robe and out the other side, then ruffles up Cup's hair and offers Gallix, Uesugi, and Sir D high fives. He stops and looks up at Sirettis with narrowed eyes, then shrugs and takes a seat on the ground just in front of you as he pulls out a banana.

After your first day of training, you're now free to partake in any (or none) of the activities being offered, make connections with other Pathfinders, or simply wait out the grand banquet said to conclude the Torchbearing on the fourth day!

Uesugi nods his approval at the athletic feats performed by the halfling providing him with a high five in return. It was good to be back with his clan sisters and brothers. He had noticed something different about Spirit but he could not place what it might be. She had gone through many changes since the first time they had met and not being familiar with her kind he was not sure what exactly to think. The prying he would leave for Madame Poshkettle she was best suited for that.

There was not something in particular that caught his interest at the time. He ignores the halfling trying to high 5 him.

Who are you kidding, half-pint, you'd need sorcery to make you big enough for that.

Instead, he had a better idea.
As the halfling sat down and was eating a banana, an empty barrel nearby starts floating and, while everyone is too busy to pay mind to barrels, it is turned upside down and comes down upon the halfling, trapping him inside.

A couple of heavy sacks are then landing on top of the barrel for added weight.

Two days later, the Torchbearing is coming to a close. Events are wrapping up, courses are being finished, and rumors are circulating about a late night VIP experience with one Zarta Dralneen. To celebrate the end of festivities, the lodge has hosted a grand banquet in the visiting agents' honor. A refreshing winter breeze blows through an open window, flickering torches and sending papers scattering. The smell of freshly baked desserts fills the air while initiates clear away the remnants of the first course. Little Willy's fate is unknown, but as event staff begin to load up crates supplies into wagons, you're certain you hear the tiniest voice of a halfling begging for help.

Speaking of halflings, ever the social butterfly and self-appointed mentor-to-the-masses, the halfling bard Janira Gavix approaches your small group. "Hiya, friends! It's been awhile since last we met. Have you enjoyed the Torchbearing? I volunteered to organize all the classes again this year, and I even helped build the obstacle course. Kreighton Shaine always said I should have been a teacher. Did you learn anything useful?"

Janira looks over her shoulder as she catches sight of another group of Pathfinders refilling their tankards at the grog bowl. "Oh, those are some more students of mine!" She bounces on her toes as she waves at the group and they wave back. "Excuse me, I'll need to check in with them too!” Pleased that you appreciated her pedagogical efforts, she excuses herself with a smile and moves on.

Each of you should choose one skill. For the duration of this adventure, you will either treat it as a class skill or gain a +1 bonus on checks with that skill if it was already a class skill.

After reading the note, you may recall certain information about the Blakros family. Kn (Nobility).

DC 10+:
The Blakros are one of the wealthiest and most well-known merchant families from Taldor. They own a variety of businesses with interests all over the Inner Sea.

DC 15+:
For years, the Pathfinder Society and the Blakros family have been allies, even if only at arm’s length. Occasionally the family invites notable Pathfinders to one of its high-society affairs.

DC 20+:
The Blakros family has been involved with some shady organizations during its rise to power, including the Onyx Alliance and House Thrune.

You know all of the information about the Blakros museum whose DC is equal to or less than the result of your Knowledge (local) check.

DC 10+:
The Blakros Museum is located in the Wise District, owned by the Blakros family, and curated by Nigel Aldain (a former Pathfinder). It is open to the public when an exhibit is on display. Though the exterior of the building is ugly and squat, patrons marvel at how much bigger it is on the inside.

DC 15+:
The museum has been closed for the past several months, ramping up for a huge exhibit, “Legacy of the Shining Crusade,” opening next week.

DC 20+:
Rumors suggest that shadow magic makes the inside of the museum larger. A few years ago the inside changed drastically, which drew the curiosity of many in Absalom.

DC 25+:
Ralzeros the Overwatched was a powerful wizard who owned the building before the Blakros Family. Evidence suggests he cursed the building on his death. The number of accidents and strange events that occur there would seem to support that rumor.

You know all of the information about Nigel Aldain whose DC is equal to or less than the result of your Knowledge (local) check. This is a separate check.

DC 10+:
Though the relationship between the Society and Nigel is often strained, they remain steadfast allies. Nigel often collaborates with the Society, loaning artifacts and trading information. He has obsessively researched the Shining Crusade for the past several months.

DC 15+:
Nigel is a former Pathfinder who resigned after marrying Dhrami Blakros; the position of curator was part of his marriage contract.

DC 20+:
Nigel’s museum has suffered many mishaps since he became curator, which the Society has regularly helped clean up. Nigel still tries to distance himself from the Society and act independently, but when trouble befalls the museum, he often turns to the Society for help.

DC 25+:
Recently, Nigel has spent a fortune in security for the museum, particularly in magical protections from the Arcanamirium and Golemworks in Magnimar.

Cup shakes her head, biting her lip. "Zarta once had a bit of trouble with both organizations, but at least she's pulled away from those sorts of dark alliances now that she's no longer hip-deep in Chelaxian politics. I'm not sure that the Blakros family has."

Cup admires all the information that Pep spills about the museum, then offers some information of her own about Nigel Aldain. "Nigel was one of our own... That's part of the reason why the Society has spent so much effort rescuing him all the time. Still, I've read quite a bit of Nigel's work, espeicially Blakros: A Hundred Years of the Most Influential Family in Absalom. The tone was a bit... fawning? Still, it was an interesting work, and it gave a lot of insight into how Nigel's mind thinks. I know that security has become a priority for him. The rumor is that he's invested a small fortune in magical protections from the Arcanamirium and Golemworks in Magnimar."

Then she slaps her forehead. "Speaking of magical protections... Let's see what our Lucky Numbers hold!" She pulls out her wand of Lucky Number, preparing to hit her friends with it.

The front doors of Skyreach burst open with a loud crack. Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin strides to the edge of the platform, with a slender elf dressed in practical but expensive clothing trailing meekly behind. The red-faced venture-captain addresses the crowd in a booming voice.

“Pathfinders, I regret interrupting the festivities, but we have something of a situation. Approximately twenty minutes ago, unknown forces invaded the Blakros Museum. Fortunately for everyone involved, the Torchbearing is about cooperation and helping our colleagues, so let’s think of this less as an inconvenience and more as an opportunity to practice what we preach.”

The elf, Nigel, exhales sharply, then speaks, “Now, Ambrus, I’ve spent a king’s ransom fortifying the museum from all sorts of invaders: sentinels from the Golemworks, magical wards from the Arcanamirium, and even contracts for guard beasts, both magical and mundane—spared no expense. I didn’t want to come here, but I’ve got no choice.”

Valsin’s forced smile cracks slightly, showing his annoyance. “Out with it, Nigel. Get to the point.”

“Someone broke into my museum and set off the magical protections! I was preserving priceless Shining Crusade pieces for our new exhibit when the first alarm activated. I sent for district guards and went to investigate, but by the time I arrived, the thieves had already locked themselves in my study. They somehow caused the Shining Crusade relics to fly around the museum and attack my sentinels. Everything is going haywire! The magical traps started to target me, the sentinels are not responding to my commands, and—”

Valsin holds out a hand to steady the increasingly agitated elf. “The last you knew, the thieves were still in your study?” Nigel nods. “Very well. Pathfinders: the Seekers should prepare to teleport directly into the Blakros study—“

“That won’t work,” Nigel interrupts, “The study is magically sealed. After that dreadful Numerian exhibit, I turned it into a magical safe room. The robbers must have figured out how to activate it; no one can get in or out while the wards hold. I can work on breaking the wards, but meanwhile my sentinels are smashing up the collection. Some of those priceless relics are on loan from your own Society lodges, so helping me is really helping yourselves.”

“Fine.” Ambrus Valsin takes a deep breath and then turns to the assembled Pathfinders. “Pathfinders, go to the Blakros Museum, secure any relics you can, disable the security systems, and apprehend the looters if possible. Stay safe.”

I thought I saw two Uesugis for a moment.

Dozens of Wise District guards surround the Blakros Museum. The sergeant nods to Ambrus Valsin as he approaches, a subtle smirk dancing across the venture-captain's face. The museum itself is alight with swirling whorls of color and the sounds of metal and stone clashing. Occasionally, brief flashes of light burst from the front entrance, illuminating a toppled banner that says “Legacy of the Shining Crusade.”

The broad-shouldered, middle-aged Ulfen man salutes, a somewhat bemused expression on his face. “Well met, Venture-Captain Valsin. I am Svaralk of Asleifar, Sergeant of the Learned Guard. The Guard appreciates your assistance.” He points to his subordinates, “Our initial attempt to quell the animated relics within failed. I’ve ordered the Guard to withdraw and form a perimeter.”

Ambrus Valsin returns the sergeant’s salute, a gesture of mutual respect. “You once served in Grand Prince Stavian III’s Ulfen Guard, did you not?”

Svaralk nods, “That’s right. Afterwards, I retired to Absalom and have served this city for seven years. This is not the first catastrophe I’ve responded to at the Blakros Museum, though none has been quite so dramatic as this. As if anyone needed further proof of the museum’s reputation for trouble.”

The Ulfen confides to the Venture-Captain, “After Nigel Aldain harangued me for dereliction of duty in not immediately retaking the museum, I’m in no rush to sacrifice the lives under my command until the warring creatures inside wear each other down.” He holds up a hand and shakes his head, “I don’t hold Nigel Aldain’s outburst against him. I recognize the elf is rightfully concerned—albeit rather precious—about his exhibit.”

___

Svaralk turns to your team of Pathfinders and says, “Before you enter, I can provide you an overview of the museum’s layout and tell you that there are animated relics and guard animals on the ground level, and clockwork creatures skirmishing with each other on the floor above. We also have an especially challenging problem in the gardens at the southeast corner of the museum grounds. Some kind of magical runes displaying swarm-like behavior, more magical devices really than living creatures. They proved too complicated a challenge for me and my guards; we simply lacked the skills to disable them.”

It is possible for a PC to utilize Stealth and scout a location on the main floor or upper level of the museum before the whole party goes there. If you're successful, you'll get an idea of what is in that location before the whole party enters.
You can either begin exploring the main floor, head to the garden and attempt to disable the magical devices, or head directly upstairs. What'll it be, team!

Gallix stands a short distance behind Valsin and regards the sergeant with something akin to admiration. The Ulfen man, though somewhat advanced in age, still looks the part of a royal guard, and Gallix cannot help but appreciate the man's impressive build. He steps forward as the Svaralk provides his information and extends a hand to the sergeant. "Gallix Granbonne, Sergeant. Now, you and your people keep that perimeter tight while we clean up this little kerfuffle. There's no challenge too great for the Red Arm of Absalom!" He flexes his right arm, showing off his newly bejeweled and bewitched cestus, as well as the sleek silken sleeve that runs up his forearm. Okay, since the Red Arm includes Master Secret Agent Sir D, you have the ability to autopass the Stealth roll needed and therefore can see every encounter and choose which to tackle and in what order. Pretty handy!

Sir D fades from sight, and then slips into the museum. On the main floor, he passes by two noteworthy rooms.

The first room, highlighted by a sign that says The Shining Armory, contains Shining Crusade artifacts that move and creak by some unseen force. A low, artificial hill top features a large, stuffed construct wearing chainmail and a caparison depicting a stylized owlbear. (A1)

Further into the ground floor, a second area, the Crusader's Chronicle, is fraught with ruined displays and broken furniture. A majestic and otherworldly blue tiger patrols the area. (A2)

Sir D moves silently upstairs, to the Scars of the Lich exhibit. The corpse of a man lies in a pool of blood, and a constant ticking and whirring sound echoes throughout. Two polearm-wielding mechanical soldiers stand watch. (B1)

Finally, outside, Sir D creeps into the garden, where he sees thousands of glowing glyphs forming a protective shell around the fountain. The many runes move and swarm the area as if they're a living, breathing creature. (A3)

With that, Sir D finds his way back to the group.

Where to, team?

D. returns, breaking invisibility when he is seated.

"We've four challenges ahead of ourselves.
An exhibit called -The Shining Armory-, has that crusade's artifacts moving by themselves. A big artifical figure stands atop a hill, wearing chainmail and a piece of clothing with the emblem of a stylized owlbear."

"Another, -Crusader's Chronicle-, is a mess of broken displays and furniture. A big blue tiger roams that room."

"Upstairs is another thing.
A dead man in a big pool of blood. Making the same ticking sounds as a time piece, two soldiers with polearms were standing on watch. Clockwork men."

"The garden is something of interest. There was a fountain, yet it was shielded by likely thousands of tiny glowing glyphs.
Some part was moving around as if a single creature, swarming about."
