In the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, every time characters take a level in a favored class, they gain a bonus. Under the core rules, that bonus is either +1 skill point or +1 hit point. However, the Advanced Player’s Guide introduced a new set of racial favored class options. These are benefits that members of specific races can get when they gain a level in a class that is listed as a favored class for their race. These rules are extremely interesting in that they add an new way to differentiate between characters, creating even more potential points of difference between a halfling paladin and a human paladin (just as an example). A GM wishing to make different regions or groups unique could also take the new “racial” options and instead link them to a specific kingdom, knightly order, or school.

Of course, those rules came out after Super Genius Games has already released a range of new base character classes. So, to ensure that players who use our character classes for their characters have the same range of options that characters built from the core rules do, this free PDF supplement adds racial favored class options for all the Super Genius classes available prior to this release:

  • The Genius Guide to the Dragonrider
  • The Genius Guide to the Shadow Assassin
  • The Genius Guide to the Archon
  • The Genius Guide to the Death Mage
  • The Genius Guide to the War Master
  • The Genius Guide to the Magus
  • The Genius Guide to the Witch Hunter
  • The Genius Guide to the Godling
  • The Genius Guide to the Mystic Godling—Giant-Sized Edition
  • The Genius Guide to the Armiger
  • The Genius Guide to the Time Thief
  • The Genius Guide to the Vanguard

In the future, we will include racial favored class information as part of any new base classes we release.

Favored Class Options

5/5

This is a free 5 page PDF. It takes the idea from the new Pathfinder Advanced Players Guide of making race specific favored class bonuses and applies it to all of their classes. So for those of you who are fans of any of the Super Genius class such as Time Thief, Archon, War Master, etc. Then you will enjoy this product.

The Powers are on par with those found in the APG. My rating is a 5 star simply because it is well done. I didn't notice any errors and oh yeah it's free. So ever wondered about SGG products? Well nows your chance to pick one up for free and check it out. It gives you a good idea what to expect from the company on their other products.

Pure Genius!

5/5

Most people want the products they buy to continue to be supported as new kinds of options emerge. Few people like feeling like they have to buy a bunch of products to get use out of the one's they do buy. Tough jam for a 3rd Party Publusher looking to add to the options for their products right?

Not if you are a genius! This product is essentially a free web enhancement adding alternate favored class options for the existing super genius games base classes for the pathfinder roleplaying game in line with the new ones presented in the advanced players guide. So whether you own one of their base classes or all of them, you want this product. If you dont own any of them, take a look anyway, you may be inspired to buy one or two. Go download it now, I'll wait...See isn't it awesome?

Seriously there is no reason not to download this.

Yeah, this is too short to charge much for, and we like to keep our products tightly focused so I didn't want to bundle it with a bunch of unrelated rules. While we could have gone with a $0.99 price point, I instead wanted something that might convince some more people to take a look at what we've got, and a free sample seemed a good way to do that.

Also, I'd have included a fair amount of this in our existing base-class products, if these rules had been out when we first published them. So it seemed wrong to charge for them now, when so many fans already have the products we would have included them in.

This is the most awesome, considerate, pro-customer and pro-gaming attitude ever!

Also, the options in the new free book are awesome! How the heck did you produce something so good, so soon after the APG was released?

Liberty's Edge

Wow - cool!

Awesome! It's a great concept tying into the other product. Just wanted to say thanks!

There are only two 3pp publishers I really like, stuff like this reinforces that super-genius is one of them.

Sczarni

This is exactly why SGG destroyed my prejudice against 3pp. you guys rule.

Will you be including Favoured Class Options as part of forthcoming Guides? I would assume yes, but just wanted to be sure. :)

The plan is, from here out, to provide favored class options for any new base class we present. We'll at least do that for appropriate core rules races, and may add rules for the races we introduce in the (currently 1-product long)Genius Guide to Races of... line.

Might you consider creating alternate favoured bonuses for all of the base class/race combinations inexplicably left out of the APG? That's was what I hoped this product was when I first saw it. I'd gladly pay a few dollars more for those. =)

It took 3 tries but I got my review of this up. Awesome product, and pretty much proof the SGG is a fan friendly company that puts out quality material. Seriously guys way to awesome it up. I'll be handing this out to my players and see if I cant generate some additional interest in the super genius classes.

I think Hyrum can stop saying Err and start saying 'We are awesome with a capital chuck norris'

Adding my voice to the thread.

I've enjoyed the genius guides overall, i think i have about a dozen or more of them to date. This enhancement i just tripped over as an unexpected, but very pleasant surprise. Kudos to you all and the followup support is refreshing and above expectations.

Vanguard - Woot! :)

Love the Class it suits how I always drew my Realmwalker character, a mage with a Rapier favored weapon. Swashbuckler mage without having to split class. I love the options they gain. :)

How does the favored class for a half elven archon work?

"Archon: Add +1 to the number of spells
you may know at a given level. You may
never know more archon spells at a level
than you do at the level above it."

So, at 5th level, an archon knows 3 first, 2 2nd, and 1 3rd level spells. Choosing the favored class option above, he can't choose this option at all. Should it read "below" instead of "above?"

Seems to me it would be easier just to treat it like the human sorceror bonus from the apg:

Sorcerer: Add one spell known from the sorcerer spell
list. This spell must be at least one level below the highest
"spell level the sorcerer can cast."

Some clarification would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

A closer look at this makes me think it's useless as you always know more spells at any level than you do the level above it.

I could use some advice on this, as my weekly game is tonight.

As written? It doesn't. It should read

"Archon: Add +1 to the number of spells you may know at a given level. You may never know more archon spells at a level than you do at the spell level below it."

Thank you very much. It makes sense now.
