I recently had the chance to play through this as well, and thoroughly enjoyed it. While the ending has a few issues as mentioned, and the series as a whole tends to be easier now than 8 years ago, the finale holds up. Several layers of creepy - from the initial "briefing" to meeting the sisters, the crawl through the dungeon - it really builds the tension, especially [Spoiler omitted]

The actual finale of course should almost be played for laughs to break that tension, but ce la vie. All in all, still very enjoyable.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #53: Echoes of the Everwar—Part IV: The Faithless Dead (PFRPG) PDF

I've had the chance to run this series twice (about 6 & 8 years ago), both times retiring characters satisfactorily. (3 stars)Quentin Coldwaterhttps://paizo.com/products/btpy8dak?Pathfinder-Society-Scenario-53-Echoes-of-the-Everwar-Part-IV-The-Faithless-Dead2017-03-23T00:28:13Z
Pathfinder Society Scenario #53: Echoes of the Everwar—Part IV: The Faithless Dead (PFRPG) PDF

(I played this.)

I like the setup of the story. It's clear a lot of thought went into this. It's just too bad there isn't really a payoff to be found here. I really like the story that's present, and how it ties the previous parts together, it's just a shame that the scenario falters in actually telling the story. I think it's a case of early seasons not conveying the story all too clearly. The story starts in medias res and you keep running after the facts without really having any time to explain the situation. Which is a shame, because a lot of time went into the details and making this scenario feel as epic as possible. The setpieces are all there: great environment, cool interactions with NPCs, but there's simply no context given for most of it. A good author could've tied the pieces more neatly together, especially since Part III was almost devoid of context, but right now a cult suddenly came out of nowhere just to be the villain of the week, which could've been so much cooler if it had been foreshadowed at all.

But, as said, I like what's present. Some cool boons in-scenario and a very cool setpiece, it's just a shame the final encounter has absolutely zero payoff. The final encounter could've been more interesting, but it's Season 1, I came to expect slightly underwhelming combats. But, the conclusion is just a "whelp, that happened," without a satisfying resolution. And it's a total shame nothing's come of that final "twist," there's so much interesting stuff that could've been done with it...

Still, I looked back at my other reviews, and I stand by them. They're all decent to good adventures without any great offenders, but it's clear scenario design has come a great way since then. I wish this series was revisited and got a facelift, as there's really a lot of great material here, there just isn't anything done with it.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #53: Echoes of the Everwar—Part IV: The Faithless Dead (PFRPG) PDF

(I played this.)

If I ever run this at low tier I will update my review.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #53: Echoes of the Everwar—Part IV: The Faithless Dead (PFRPG) PDF

I liked the story on this one, I think it would play much better at a lower tier than the high tier.

For as well written as this scenario finale is (and it is WELL written), the encounters have never been able to grab the attention of the players no matter how evil my tactics are! ;-)

There are a few bright spots though including an interaction with a gynosphinx and the possibility of setting a Venture Captain on fire.

I think the biggest problem lies in the final encounter. After 12 hours of table time, the players are expecting an amazing final fight with the BBEG of this whole series. That just doesn't happen in practice.

I'll be running this at least 4 more times in November. I'm hoping that my experiences (and the players') improves before the month is through.

Pathfinder Society Scenario #53: Echoes of the Everwar—Part IV: The Faithless Dead (PFRPG) PDF

I've run this a handful of times now, even with Neil overshadowing me, but I just can't like this one.
