Chapter 6: "The Final Wish"
by Rob McCreary

Fear and ruin grip the land as the long-imprisoned army of a mad genie renews its ancient war. From the streets of the exotic city of Katapesh to the shadow of cursed Pale Mountain, this horde of immortal warriors leaves only fire and ruin in its wake. Empowered and perverted by the granting of wild wishes, this seemingly invincible legion strangles the realm in its fearful grasp as an obsessed general stokes the embers of an age-old devastation. Can the PCs save Katapesh from both a burning tyrant and the resurrection of a living apocalypse? Find out in this, the climax of the Legacy of Fire Adventure Path!

This volume of Pathfinder Adventure Path includes:
  • "The Final Wish," an adventure for 14th-level characters, by Rob McCreary.
  • Accounts of the Spawn of Rovagug, the titanic spawn of the god of destruction, by Clinton Boomer.
  • The magic of genies and insights into the power of wishes, by Wolfgang Baur.
  • Pathfinder Channa Ti's last-ditch efforts to prevent a dark god from entering the world, in a climactic Pathfinder's Journal by New York Times bestselling author Elaine Cunningham.
  • Seven new monsters by Adam Daigle, Rob McCreary, and F. Wesley Schneider.

For characters of 14th to 15th level.

Pathfinder Adventure Path is Paizo Publishing's monthly 96-page, perfect-bound, full-color softcover book printed on high-quality paper. It contains an in-depth Adventure Path scenario, stats for about a half-dozen new monsters, and several support articles meant to give Game Masters additional material to expand their campaign. Because Pathfinder uses the Open Game License, it is 100% compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world's most popular fantasy roleplaying game.

Worth fleshing out.

3/5

GOOD:
The artwork is amazing (the super-impressive gnoll from page 20 has already been made into a miniature: Nargok, Warpriest of Rovagug. Some of the downtime activities after book one pay off greatly. The liberation of Kelmarane is actually fun.
Xotani´s Grave is an impressive location and mostly fun to play in.
The Spawn of Rovagug article.
The Bestiary is worth it for the nowhere reprinted Azi dragons and Xotani the Firebleeder.

BAD:
The city of Kelmarane is underdeveloped. The GM has to flesh out quite some buildings. The Brazen Tower is a big grind. The "Clockwork General" is not compatible with Pathfinder lore of today, predating it.

UGLY:
Having to clear the House of the Beast a second time is no fun at all.
The adventure has zero chance of roleplaying opportunities as written.

If you have the time to flesh out the city of Kelmarane with buildings and NPCs (best done before beginning book two) and insert some roleplaying opportunities/chances to parley with some creatures encountered, this adventure will gain tremendously from it.

The first 4 parts of this campaign are a lot of fun, the last two have to be pimped up by a GM to be. This is why i want "Legacy of Fire" as a hardcover with Pathfinder Rules in 2019.

My Final Wish was for a far more memorable ending

2/5

I remember being quite disappointed with the finale of Legacy of Fire when I first read through The Final Wish. Having just started the AP again with the outstanding Howl of the Carrion King, I revisited the last chapter and can honestly say my opinion hasn’t changed. I really expected something a little more interesting for the culmination of one of the more innovative APs. Instead we get the Liberation of Kelmarane as “cinematic combat” i.e. characters run a few errands and take on a few high level NPCs while the battle takes place mainly off screen.

The big show down with the enemy which has been building throughout the AP occurs at the end of a very vanilla dungeon crawl with a few uninspired visits from past friends and foes. Whatever happened to “the strange wish-powered minions the PCs are destined to face in the final adventure”? The House of the Beast was far more fun the first time through.

Sorry for the delay on getting your Pathfinder #24 out. We had a mix up with the trucking company where they tried to deliver Pathfinder #24 to Privateer Press instead of to us. So instead of getting our copies this morning to ship out today, we are going to get them first thing tomorrow morning. So anybody waiting for their subscription still should get it shipped tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. Sorry for the delay on this book. There has been a series of events that in retrospect will be rather humorous but right now are frickin' annoying! :)

The books did arrive today, and the warehouse gnomes have been shipping them as fast as they can.

Aaaaggghh... now it's F5 frenzy!

I worked my butt off to try to get all the subscriber copies shipped yesterday, but the day ran out of time. :) I am 100% confident that we will get the rest shipped out today. If you don't get your download today, then there might very well be a problem with your order. Sorry about the delay, but we got screwed on the shipping and there were a LOT more subs that need to be hand shipped instead of computer shipped. Lots of Bonus Bestiaries in this lot of subs. Not to mention cheap Dragon/Dungeon mags, Green Ronin sale books, and other stuff.

I noticed my downloads were available yesterday. I got them stored on my external harddrive. Don't want what happened a few months ago to happen to me. Anyway thanks to the Paizo staff for being so cooperative.

Is it just me or did past volumes of this AP include separate files for Wolfgang's legends and myths from the inside covers when using the individual file option? It's so hard to read them on the double page spread like they are in this one.

I'll ask for that chapter to be redone as pages instead of spreads...

No more so than all the other APs, honestly. These things are fantastically complex, and pulling them off requires a LOT of people doing their job to make it work.

But the troubles that have been hitting this AP are a pale shadow of the mayhem that surrounded Rise of the Runelords... THAT one was particularly harrowing to get off the ground.

Having been in an editorial office, I can back that up. If it's not the artist, it's the inker, or the letterer, or the writer, or the color proof. Course that's with comics, and you generally deal with one person for each job area. Generally. I can't even imagine how hard it is to get 5 different writers and multiple artists for one of these books.

Sorry to hear you got screwed on the shipping. :-/

Mine is one of the hand-shipped subs because I LOVE combined shipping. Picked up Bonus Bestiary, some duplicate item card decks, and a Green Ronin book. This was the first month with combined shipping, right? Or second? Either way, you'll be better prepared for it next month when the crazy-heavy core rulebook shipping starts. :-)

ok, question on a spell in the wishcraft section.

Under Diamond Spray it reads

Spoiler:
These magical slivers are treated as adamantine and cold iron for the
purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

Under 3.x spells bypass DR *gives the (in)complete psionic a dirty look* So is this a pathfinder change that snuck in? And I'd have thought it would be conjuration, not evocation.

More authoritative voices will undoubtedly weigh in, but I believe it means that for the purpose of overcoming DR you don't treat them like spells. You treat them like slivers of the actual metals.

Though I'm with you on conjuration.

Hmm. This one took some digging.

Due to a bug, the Cthulhu book wasn't ordered from our distributor until your sidecart was processed, and your shipment was waiting for it when it shouldn't have been. (Gary has fixed the bug.)

The Cthulhu book did arrive today, so everything should go out together tomorrow morning.

Same bug hit you... and probably anybody else who is still waiting. However, we should be able to get most of those shipped today.

So many pieces of awesome wrapped into this issue. That picture of Ahriman alone was priceless, and I loved all the high-level nasties in the Bestiary. That and the Spawn of Rovagug article...mmm, tasty! Now I've got to go read some of it, starting w/ Elaine's last Channa-Ti story...

I have been reading the first one thus far, but I was wondering... considering the definitely Arab feel of this Adventure Path, has anyone already adapted Legacy of Fire to Greyhawk (Sultanate of Zeif perhaps)?

Gregor Clegane wrote:

Well, don't you need access to nearby mountains? That might rule out Zeif, though Tusmit has the Yatils on the eastern border. Ull might even work if you had more settled cities/towns than appear on the map. Then you could use the Ullsprue Mountains and the Barrier Peaks ;-)

Or you could just make it a pre-Twin Cataclysms campaign and plop it somewhere in the Dry Steppes near the Crystalmist Mts and/or the Sulhaut Mts.

I've been a huge fan of this AP -- the first installment was everything a low-level adventure should be, the second was great fun, the fourth and fifth had interesting locations and fun hooks. I've got mixed feelings about the finale...

Spoiler:
I really love the "revisit all the previous areas from the 1st two installments" thing. That gimmick alone gets 4 stars. But this adventure does suffer from what is unfortunately common of almost all high-level adventures: there's no way to challenge or interest the PCs except by throwing in hundreds of monsters, and putting bigger numbers in their stat blocks. There are enough fire giants and demons to bog down playing for weeks if the PCs actually encounter them... so when I run it, I plan to keep almost all of the giants, elementals, golems, salamanders, demons, nightmares, hellhounds, and dozens of other assorted "throw-away" monsters strictly in the background. At high levels, hacking up thousands of monsters somehow loses its allure... but maybe that's just me.
