So, I wish I subscribed earlier - I waited because I wanted to support my FLGS and I wish that was possible with a subscription but I totally get why they can't offer this through the retain stores so, instead, I've found other ways of supporting my local shop by running games. Unsubscribing and Resubscribing to skip a product is as easy as an email - no hassle, no worry. If you're going to buy multiple subscriptions to get the APs and the companions and the so on, it's totally worth it and the discount and PDF covers shipping. If I was just considering one subscription, I'd probably buy it at my FLGS. Very pleased with the products and the product line.

Everytime I think that I have every rule book I really want for a complete game system, Paizo comes up with another one that I suddenly realize I need. They know their gamers well, and anticipate their desires. Books come with plenty of packaging to insure they are not damage in delivery, and the free PDF is very handy for those reliant on Ipads and the such at the table. Two thumbs up!

This means we’ll have the free pdf, some time around August, right????
And those of us who didn't subscribe until august, expecting it to clear up some, will still not get the PDF until November.

Subscribers get access to the PDF as soon as their subscription copy ships. At the moment if one subscribes and selects the Bestiary and CRB to start with then you can get the PDF almost straightaway (by asking Paizo to ship your subscription copy ASAP).

Out of curiosity, if I wanted to get the deluxe edition of any given book, would I be able to upgrade to that? I have the deluxe core and bestiary and I'd like to keep getting my rulebooks in that style. Thanks!

They don't provide the option to upgrade to the deluxe version to subscribers, unfortunately.

(FWIW, I'd upgrade to a deluxe subscription in a heartbeat, if that ever makes sense from Paizo's perspective, financially and technically).

Same. I'm buying the Deluxe books anyway, I'd like it if they came with a PDF just like the normal subscription. It kind of sucks that I have to buy a lesser quality product to get the PDF as well.

You're right, I could have worded it better. The less premium version is more in line with what I mean.

All paizo subscription products release on the same day each month (the pawns and miniatures are the only two subs which dont comply with this, being from different companies).

I'm trying to budget around my subscriptions (Adventure, Adventure Path, and Rulebook). According to the above quote, all Paizo subscription products release on the same day (besides those facilitated by third parties). On which day do Paizo subscription products release? Based on subscription products I've received so far, I would guess the 17th or 18th, but I haven't been a subscriber long enough to determine a trend.

Any help would be appreciated! Paizo subscriptions are super convenient and I'd love to continue taking advantage of them.

It's not always the same day every month, but Customer Service will post a thread like this at least a week or so in advance with the expecting shipping dates in it. (Note that with a subscription, you're likely to be charged before the official "street date" when the products are released in stores.)

Right now, they have threads already up for October, November, and December, so people are aware of the shipment dates in the lead-up to the holiday season.

Thank you for pointing me to these, they're super helpful!

Based on my reading of how subscriptions work, I get charged when the items ship, which for the October products will be anywhere between 9/30 and 10/11. Or will I be charged when the orders "spawn" on 9/26?

The order "spawn" will trigger an authorization on your payment card; basically, you'll get a pending charge that won't be finalized just to make sure that your card is good. So you'd want to have enough money in your account (for a debit card) or enough available credit (for a credit card) by the time the authorization goes through, even though you won't actually be charged until the order ships.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

One thing you can do is to buy yourself gift cards and immediately redeem them for credit when you have funds. Then set your subscriptions to use any store credit and it can help smooth out and control the timing of large charges.

Granted doing so does involve paying ahead of time. Ive used it when I know I have a large order looming though and want to time the charge down to the day.

I am sorry but I STILL Do not understand how subscriptions work :(

If I subscribe to the Pathfinder Rule book 2
1)Does that mean I get an update if they change something?
2)Does it mean if a New Rule book for 2 comes out for some reason I get charged again for it automatically and it ships to me?
3)Does it mean they are going to charge and send me for a product EVERY TIME something is released for Pathfinder 2? Like I'll get charged automatically for the Bestiary Book, Game Masters Guide, and Adventure Module.... etc???

EXAMPLE:
Rulebook 2 comes out... automatic Charged product gets sent
Beastiary Comes out... Automatic charge, product gets sent
Game Adventure comes out... Automatic charge, product gets sent
etc... Like they could just Charge me everytome somethings released even if I do not want it?
Oh and is there any discount for this besides getting a free PDF of only the Book you start sub with?
Hope you get what I am say LOL
Thank you for any help

Whichever product you choose as your starting product, yes, you will get that product and every product in the line after it unless you cancel your subscription. You can see at the top of the page where it lists upcoming books in the rulebook line: If you start with the Core Rulebook, you will get the Bestiary, Gamemastery Guide, Bestiary 2, etc., as they come out.

If you only want one or two books from the line, then you don't want to sign up for the subscription; you just want to buy the books you want as you want them. (Also, depending on where you are in the world, they'll probably also be cheaper from Amazon or Book Depository or something.)

Although it's an "automatic charge", you have plenty of time to say "Not this month thanks" if you don't actually want the book.

Generally they'll send out an email on a Thursday or Friday saying "Here's what we're about to sell you. this is how we're going to ship it to you and this is how much it's all going to cost". They won't actually begin processing orders until the Monday though, so everyone has a few days to opt out if a subscription line is no longer suiting you.

You will get a free PDF for every book that you receive as a subscriber (so the first one and every other book until you cancel your subscription). There isn't a discount unless you subscribe to four product lines (and extra perks if you subscribe to six).

Since I cannot find the price of the subscription (!), I'm going to buy the pdf... This would be so much better were it simply straightforward.

There is no price of subscription. It's just the individual cost of each book as it becomes available, automatically ordered and shipped to you as the next becomes available.

Liberty's Edge

I'm seeing Bestiary 2 twice on my subscriptions, once as a PDF and once as a physical copy, both of which I'm being charged for. Is separately processing them the new way or just for this one item, and more importantly am I getting charged extra for the PDF or will it be taken off the price off the physical copy when that ships?

I got the gamemastery guide in February via subscription and only got charged for the print copy. My account also shows a floating Bestiary 2 PDF charge, as well as for the print copies, estimated late May or early June. Same as yours.

I haven’t heard anything about pulling the free PDF perk (and am very sure I would have!)

It is well known that the “future subscriptions” functionality on that page is pretty glitchy though (especially when it comes to prices). I suspect it’s just a function of that page’s reliable wonkiness. It might sort itself once the April sub run is finished but I’m sure it won’t actually be charged when late May rolls around.

My subscriptions page doesn't show any bestiary at all right now. Might have something to do with the special edition sub I have? Needless to say, yep, wonky. :)

I’ve got both subs and they’re both listed (as coming in late May early June). That page has never worked properly though.

It should be the "next product" and selectable as the starting book after the shipping window for Bestiary 2 closes, which ought to be any day now.

So I got this last month, I picked Bestiary 2 as my first book thinking that the subscription would carry on and I would still get the APG. But I'm not seeing anything that states that as the case now. I also got the adventure path and its showing that I am getting future books. Does it take some time for that to show up? (Honestly so far buying from Paizo directly has been a huge hassle. Orders taking over a month to complete, no response in emails or the customer support board getting a bit aggravating lol)

The subscription absolutely *should* have sent you both books, but there have been a lot of bugs in the process lately. Fwiw, during the active shipping window (between when subscriptions start to ship for the month and they finish), displays are known to be wonky and not show the products that are being shipped that month.

However, the APG came out last month so should have shipped with your Bestiary 2. Have you received the Bestiary 2 shipment? If so, I would make a thread in the CS forum and have them look into whether the system skipped your APG. (I know that takes forever right now, but they do seem to be getting to forum posts a little more quickly than they're working through the email backlog.)

If you haven't received either book, I would imagine they will ship together this month.

Thanks for the response and yeah I got the Bestiary 2 book with all of my other subscription books. And today I was charged for a order I placed a month ago and they added the second adventure path book in that order with out the discount :( So posted in the CS forum. Hopefully they can help me out and get this sorted...I’d rather not spend even more on shipping. :/

And it’s gotten worse, they sent out one order without the APG and no discount...and now they are going to charge me for a second order with the 3rd adventure path book. And it does not have the discount attached...they are going to charge me 32 bucks for a book I could go to my local game shop and get for 23 bucks. This subscription thing is definitely not working out. (No a PDF is not that much of a boon in this day and age).

The subscription isn’t for everyone (and depending where you live, it can well be an expensive option). The slow resolution times is very much a 2020 problem. Usually, Paizo are very quick and efficient throughout the year - the months on either side of GenCon being the notable exceptions.

A lot of people find it useful to buy the book from amazon (or another site offering heavy discounts) and then the PDFs from Paizo when they go live.

That might work out better for you.

I think Gon is referring to the fact that many publishers offer free (or very cheap) PDFs with hard copies as a matter of course.

Historically, the free PDF was kind of “compensation” for Paizo’s admittedly high shipping charges. They tweaked that on PF2’s release and shipping charges have risen steeply relative to the price of PDFs, so it’s not surprising that it’s no longer such an attractive deal as it used to be for some.

The Customer Service Forum has monthly posts that tell you what is being shipped each month.

The Advanced Player's Guide was part of the July 2020 new releases.

You can check your Paizo orders by going to My Account (in the menu in the top margin of the page)> Order History.

You may have accidentally started your subscription with the wrong item.

To solve that problem, your best option is to post a new thread in the Customer Service forum, with a header that says something like: "Missing Subscription Item: Advanced Players Guide", and then waiting until CS gets to your post

For what it's worth, CS got to same-day processing on the forum questions last week, so you may be in luck!

Okay, dumb question.... Is there a pocket book subscription? Couldn't find anything on this. I just love the pocket editions.

With the subscriptions, are the physical products distributed from the US only, or are they also distributed from Europe? The last time I ordered a physical book from the website (I had a voucher from running a few PFS games) it took ages for it to arrive...Also the factors of higher postage and import tax!

We ship from our warehouse outside of of Seattle, Washington in the USA. We have no European hub at this time.

I want to start a Pathfinder Second Edition Rulebook subscription, but the only options are still Bestiary 3 and Secrets of Magic. It does not. The Pocket Editions are only sold individually at this time. But they are a new addition and growing in popularity.

is there an actual reason for this "subscription" twice now I have has to buy the PDF's separately as the subscription wont release the PDF to me until the hard copy is shipped, and as such I would still now be waiting for SoM as there is no sign of it being shipped to me. I can only assume that the subscription is only a valid choice if you live in the same country/city/street as the Paizo guys in order to have anything shipped before Pathfinder Ver 3 comes out?

If your subs are long overdue then contact CS, for this shipping window in particular there's a lot that's causing delays, mine still haven't shipped for example.

The buying the PDFs because you can't wait for your sub to grant them to you is something you're doing of your choice. Again, like I said, unless your order has been lost or something and not simply delayed.

Yes I lnow it is my choice, my point is whan the items are due to be released charge me at that time so at least the PDF opens up instead of moving everything to this side cart, $70-$100 is somthing that I can budget for no problems but now the cart has two (and who knows how many more before it is ready to ship) and a multi $100 bill all at once is not somthing I can easily budget for... I thought the whole idea (and the reason I joined the sub) was to space out the book purchases as to make them lesss impactful on my finances.

Nothing should have gotten moved to your sidecart with a delay. You should really reach out to CS, because it sounds like something is actually off with your orders.

Welcome to Pathfinder!

When you start a subscription, your first purchase is the currently available product. You do not get any previous items from that product line.

However, right now Paizo is offering a 25% discount for any purchases of the Core Rulebook, the Pocket Edition, or the Beginner Box

Hi. I've been a subscriber to Pathfinder's various lines for a while now and have been slowly filling out my physical book collection for books that released before I subscribed. In light of the discount code I figured now would be a good time to pick up the physical core rulebook.

But, since I have a subscription, it bypasses the payment section where the code would be input, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it to a non-sidecart purchase. Trying to change it on the order has either the "sidecart" button, or a section header for "ship it" with nothing underneath. I don't seem to be able to un-sidecart it from my account page either. Is there a way I can still use the code? The same thing happened when I tried to pick up some bestiaries with the holiday code.

Arriann wrote:

I have found that I can click the "shipping" button during the checkout process and toggle the "ship now" and "ship with my next subscription (sidecart it)" options.

The code gets input on the page where you enter payment details, the last page of the checkout process. Even with subscriptions, you should be able to enter gift certificates and sale codes.
