Jonathan Roberts, cartographer for Wrath of the River King and Adventures in the Hyborian Age, presents "A Witch's Choice" map: The Leafless Wood. This multi-page PDF allows you to print out the battlemap at a 1 inch=1 square scale as a letter-format map and is also available in a printer-friendly light grayscale version.

The wind dies and the sky darkens; a bird-shaped cloud moves in front of the sun; the sounds of the wind, birds, animals, and insects die away... you have reached the Leafless Wood.

You can find more of Jonathan Roberts' work at his website www.fantasticmaps.com.

Great battlemat!

I love this artist's style. I cannot wait to print this out and mount it to a foam-core board!

A unique map at a great price

4/5

This map really jumped out and grabbed me when I took my first look at it. Especially with the lighting and color tone. I’m used to forest maps either being green and vibrant or dark and spooky, and this dusk/fall/decrepit map is just something you don’t get to see very often.

This isn’t a map you would use often, I would wager, but for that one scene that this was perfect for, it would have a huge impact, and I’m already thinking about how to plan for such a scene at my table.

The product is designed to be printed on standard US letter size paper at 8.5” x 11”, and they provide both color and black and white versions of the map. While the black and white version is a nice convenience to have… you would really be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t use this map in color.

Now, there are some downsides, which keep me from giving the product a full five stars. The first it isn’t as sharp as some other battle-maps when blown up to scale. It isn’t bad at all, and It is CERTAINLY better than I could manage by hand on a battle map, and for a buck I can’t complain too much, but compared to some of the other products like this I own it does stand out.

Secondly, I would have loved for there to be a high-res version of the map included so that it could be printed at a print shop without having to assemble the individual pieces.

And lastly, I would have like some cutting guides on the edges of the corners to make slicing the map on a paper cutter easier.

Overall though, this map is a great one to have and use, and for $1 you can’t really pass it up.

Added the two high resolution jpegs both with and without the grid.
