UMD boosts

Advice

Are there any cunning ways to up ones UMD score?

Some things my characters do...

If they have "guidance" as a cantrip, they use it.

"Eagle's Splendor" will give you a temporary +4 cha boost, which is a +2 to your UMD.

Some GMs allow "masterwork UMD" tools, which is sometimes fluffed as a "list of common activation keywords" or stuff like that.

There are some class abilities that give temporary skill boosts, and there are spells which do the same. So long as they stack, they can be used together.

If you are trying to permanently boost a skill, you can pump more than one skill rank into that skill when you level up, so long as the total ranks are not higher than your overall character level.

While "skill focus" will give you a +3 on any given skill, if you take "additional traits" and pick traits which turn non-class skills into class skills, you can turn a single rank in the new skills into an effective +5 into each.

Any magic items which boost charisma will also help.

And finally, if your GM allows it, you might be able to get a party member to aid you.

Hmm..
Skill Focus
Dangerously Curious trait
Circlet of Persuasion
A Clockwork familiar grants the owner a +2 UMD bonus
Eldritch Hunter Rogue Archetype gives +1 UMD every 3 levels

There is also *SOMETHING* that gives a bonus to scroll UMD, (+2-4?) but I can't recall what it is.

There are also spells that give bonuses on skills or CHA skills.

Watch the bonus types that you are applying so you don't overlap.

What's your situation, and we can see what we can do for you.

I'm playing a 9th level Sorcerer [old], I have 26 Charisma and have maxed out UMD.

I want/need to cast some high level Divine spells via UMD and need more!

I have a +2 headband [all 3 stats] but not enough cash to get a +4 unless I sell and change to a Cha only one which I don't really want to do.

Feats are already tight and it would really hurt having to take Skill Focus!

Circlet of Persuasion is 4500gp head slot

This delicately engraved silver headband grants its wearer a +3 competence bonus on Charisma-based checks.

Competence Bonus: Guidance spell/Skill boost item/circlet of persuasion (you should get the circlet regardless as it will even help concentration checks)

Luck bonus: prayer spell

Morale: Heroism Spell

Moment of Greatness.. doubles a morale bonus

Insight bonus: tap inner beauty

Embrace Destiny: essentially a 2nd roll as you know the d20 score you need

That's great stuff, cheers.

Cha Headband is a better option for a Sorc than the Circlet me thinks - Spell DC's an' all.

the Circlet is a head slot.

Headband and Head slot are different.

jacob is correct, if you look at the list of magic item slots, head and headband are 2 different slots, so a sorcerer can wear both a headband of whatever +2/4/6 and wear a circlet of persuasion at the same time.

Cool, I overlooked that!

What is the most UMD that you could possibly get at 1st level? Including traits and items?

There was a thread about this a couple weeks ago that I read but I cna't find it now. I just remember it involved two traits including Rich Parents.

20 charisma +5
1 rank +1
class skill +3
dangerously curious +1
possibly a masterwork tool +2
skill focus +3
(if human bonus feat) magical aptitude +2

+17 is the best i can think of at level 1, anything else requires magic items
