One of the most fascinating adventure locations, perfect for horror-oriented adventures, the Old Lighthouse stands on a small isle. The lighthouse building is a two-storey building with a slanted rooftop. Obviously, the lighthouse itself is taller than the rest of the building. The topmost level is just under the massive lantern. The first two levels of the building are a perfectly furnished house for the men on duty here. The isle itself features the ruins of an older unknown structure and a small dock, where rowboats and small ships can unload their cargoes. A pathway links the various locations aboveground and a small bridge in the middle of the island crosses a small chasm. A small network of caverns is also present, linking each other various spots of the isle.

Some hints to use the lighthouse follow:

  • The entire isle is the hideout of a smugglers' band, the smugglers' chief pretend to be the man who tends the lighthouse but during the night the lantern is never lighted up.
  • The smugglers have their warehouse in the basement of the old ruins on the isle and pay the man who tends the lighthouse for his silence.
  • The lighthouse island is a eerie place, folks say that the lightouse is haunted. The man who looks from the massive lantern on top of the lighthouse is said to become mad as he see things too ominous to be reported.
  • Something is hidden in the basement of the old lighthouse. Tales are told about an alien thing that feeds upon the unfortunate who venture there.

The Blueprints product line offers you old-fashioned blueprint-style maps for your adventures and campaigns. Each map includes a blueprint version and a standard black-and-white version. The maps are all vector-based for maximum print resolution. Despite their old-fashioned appearance, each map offers a degree of customization by taking full advantage of pdf technology. A small control bar (which will not be printed) on each map allows you to turn the grid on and off, eliminate the room numbers, fill the walls, or hide doors and furniture.

Each product features a classic fantasy adventure location: a dungeon, a keep, a temple complex, a thieves' guild and so on. You can use these maps as reference to build your own adventures or simply have them at hand in case your players go in an unexpected direction during the campaign.

While offering you the best quality, these products are really inexpensive.

An RPG Resource Review

4/5

For some reason, lighthouses make for good adventures and this one is set up to provide an ideal location. It's on a small island, which you can situate in an appropriate place - marking reefs, or the approaches to a harbour or warning of cliffs - in your campaign world. The first plan provides the entire island, complete with a dock, a small warehouse beside it, and some mysterious ruins as well as the building that provides the lighthouse itself and living quarters for its keepers.

The second plan shows how the island is riddled with caves which interconnect all the structures on the island. Excellent for locating a pirate base, or hiding fugitives plotting against unjust rulers... you see, just looking at these plans spawns ideas for how to use them!

The third plan depicts the lighthouse building itself. It has 2 stories, being quite generous living quarters for the lighthouse-keepers, with a tower at one side to hold the light which stands three of stories higher. There's also a high chamber suitable for keeping a lookout. It's a quite substantial building and would make a nice if isolated home. A side elevation is provided to help you get the picture, before we move on to a plan of the ruined building and the cellars beneath (which connect to the underground caverns, of course).

All plans are presented in black and white or in blue, and are to some measure customisable - you can turn off grid lines, numbering, and furniture (where present). Several pages are provided for you to make notes, but you'll have to print them out to scribble on unless you have a very steady hand at adding text to Acrobat pages!

It all makes for a good base for pirates or anyone who likes the isolation, or indeed if you actually need a lighthouse and the action goes there. With this plan to hand, it probably will!
