I haven't gamed in a long time, but when my friends suggested playing again, I thought I'd make some characters, mainly for old time's sake.
The rules were 8th level, 3rd tier mythic, no 3rd party, no equipment, epic fantasy stats.
One of the characters I made was a Halfling Hunter with a Bird companion and the Undersized Mount and Spirit's Gift feats. My hope is that he can use the bird as his mount.
My plan is to give the bird the Bull focus (+4 str) and the Mammoth Spirit Animal gift (+2 str) most of the time, pushing his strength from 10 to 20 (+4 bull, +2 mammoth, +2 8th level animal companion boost, +2 4th level bird animal companion). Even without those boosts, his strength is 14, giving a light load of up to 58 lbs.
My question is, baring an overloaded character (since he starts with no equipment, his base weight is less than the light load), is there any reason why he can't use the bird as his mount? I can't find anything but I may have overlooked it (all of my Pathfinder characters I've EVER created used the 3.5 method of how many feats you get, so it's entirely possible I've missed something).
I'm not looking for optimization, nor necessarily PFS allowed, but to be fair that would give it more weight of it was. I haven't shown it to the group yet, I just wanted my ducks in a row beforehand.
Thanks!

With the new Familiar Folio book you can also select a tiny or small flying familiar and make it Medium via the Mauler familiar archetype. You could do this with any class at the cost of two feats (iron will, familiar bond), or you could also get your familiar for free through the Rogue (Carnivalist) archetype. If you go Rogue (Carnivalist), your sneak attack progression is slower (3d6 at level 10 instead of 5d6) but your familiar can also sneak attack (and you will both flank very often....)
