I didn't use any of the items I purchased beforehand for the usual dungeon crawl. Every member of my group had to rely on each other to get through this one. For some reason my GM for this didn't enjoy the scenario (Said it was a weak ending), but we, the players, had an awesome time! We were on the edge of our seats almost the whole game! Played this today with 3 fighter-types, an investigator, and my Nagaji TWF. An awesome jungle wilderness adventure with memorable tribespeople, monster/creature encounters, and cinematic fight or flight scenes. I rarely get to play on Saturdays and was really looking forward to playing this on my Saturday off from work. Unfortunately, what I hoped to be a 4, or even 5 hour scenario since we had plenty of time this afternoon, ended in less than 2 and a half hours! Ugh! I was so into it especially with my nagaji in his jungle element! Tons of fun was had by all, though, and I hope part 3 is just as awesome but longer than this one. 4.5 stars. Would be 5 if it was longer. Like others said, only 12 or so pages of content. Add an optional encounter, at least! Just gave this a quick read-through after purchasing and thought 'wow, i have a lot of prepping to do!' This is a scenario that has many villians with abilities that a PFS character would not have. I envision a TPK (even at the low tier) in the first encounter since no PFS PC would ever plan on having the feats, skills, and special abilities these guys have. There is some role-playing involved that can affect the outcome of a couple encounters, but probably too much for a 4 hour limit. This should have been broken up into a two-parter because a GM will have a lot of homework to do in preparation for this. Also, a tracking sheet would have been useful for both the PCs & villians in the final fight. The setting & locations are a nice change and make for
Played this with 5 players, two of which are Venture Officers and the others are very experienced. We played the high tier at normal mode. Just like many others, we got killed during the first battle. Before the game we were given time to purchase supplies but when we asked what we're going up against or what supplies we might need we didn't get an answer. Do not play this unless you want to die or you like to cheat and read the scenario beforehand. Very disappointed. Just played this at the 1-2 tier and really enjoyed it. To keep it short and spoiler free: this is a great scenario that gets every player to work together as a team. I played with a group that consisted of a Very Awesome GM, 3 newbies & 3 veteran players. New players to PFS are known to be somewhat shy and some barely make a peep during a scenario but, during this one, the new guys were very into it and offered some very good (non-metagaming) suggestions to overcome various obstacles using what few resources a group of level 1 to 3 characters have. Combats were great, too! A solid adventure and I hope to see more like this. I bought these at my FLGS after seeing my PFS GM using them for our scenario. The thing I liked most was that you can now use wet or dry erase markers on them unlike the older map packs. This was a big bonus that I didn't realize until after I purchased them. I also like that they come in a storage box instead of just a folded cover that just got tossed out and then having to use a rubber band to keep them together and then having the edges get worn and torn. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that they're not double-sided.
Just got done playing this at a special "GMs only" table for an upcoming convention in Denver and I must say it was very enjoyable. A straight-up dungeon crawl perfect for beginning players. Makes use of the chase scene mechanics right at the beginning which I always have fun doing. Faction missions are done at the beginning so there is no worry about PCs wandering off in the middle of the game that sometimes may slow it down. The tag-along NPC can be a real hoot if played well. There are a bit too many APG class-specific creatures so I would suggest any GM be prepared on running these with as much knowledge as possible. Another big plus was that there was only one map so I think dungeon tiles would be a great addition instead of a drawn map. My favourite scenario so far! A blast to run and every player was on the edge of their seat. I ended up purchasing the Chase Card Deck from my local game store after running this. The previous reviews sums it up quite well. I love arctic adventures, however, this just didn't have the 'Oomph!' I was hoping for. Just a bunch of combats in a temple with many classes introduced in some of the new books. At least it will help me learn how to run some new classes. This would be a good scenario for new GMs to run since it is straight up combats in a single location. I heard this is the author's first PFS scenario. Kudos! I've been picking up and collecting issues of Dungeon since 1987 and think that the magazine is the best thing to ever happen to D&D! |
