The "road", a ribbon of dirt at the best of times, is now a quagmire of mud as the spring thaw begins to melt the snows of the departing winter

With mud stained clothes and boots you come over a small hillock and see before you an old wooden fort, typical for it's type. Once one of the many border forts that had guarded Brevoy's southern border, it was abandoned until several months ago when it was chartered to a man named Oleg Leveton and his wife Svetlana to rebuild it into a trading post.

A wooden palisade surrounds a central courtyard and three interior buildings. At each corner of each wall stands a guard tower atop each of which a catapult is mounted, a remnant of the forts former use. A 30' gate, it's doors open wide, pierces the eastern wall of the trading post.

As you approach the gates your eyes are drawn to a man, hammering away at the roof of a building inside the wooden walls. As the man notices your approach, he yells something unintelligible to someone unseen in the courtyard as he hurries down from the roof and disappears into the yard.
As the false dawn's light begins to brighten the eastern sky you all arrive at Restov's western gate, ready to travel.
As the noise in the room quiets down the Lord Mayor, a middle aged man with bushy sideburns, stands and clears his throat ”My Lords and Ladies, I bid you welcome. Today is a great day, a momentous day, as today we begin to strengthen our borders and secure our trade routes against those who would seek to disrupt or plunder our merchants and our citizens, who are merely going about their normal lives. Today we, the Regent, the Swordlords” He bows his head to the noblewoman seated next to him ”and I, charge all assembled here to go forth and explore the regions outside our borders and to eradicate those enemies of Brevoy who cannot, or will not, see the errors of their ways.”

So saying, he resumes his seat and reaches back to one of the servants standing behind him. The servant hands the Lord Mayor one of the scrolls he is carrying. The Lord Mayor unfurls the scroll, looks it over, and rises again ”To the area known as the Glenebon Uplands, we charge Captain Gabriel Hightower and his band, known as the Iron Wraiths, to rid these hilllands of the barbarian horde known as the Tiger Lords and to make contact with the Kingdom of Pitax and establish a firm border with said kingdom.” As he finishes speaking, the handsome man in the full plate armor stands from his table and walks up to the high table where the Lord Mayor quickly signs the parchment and hands it over to him.

"Next, to the area known as the Nomen Heights, we send Lord Maeger Varn and his men to establish relations with the centaur tribes inhabiting the region and to establish an outpost for continued trade with them.” The hard eyed man who saluted you as you walked in stands and approaches the high table where he receives the scroll from the Lord Mayor and a nod from the noblewoman seated there.

”To the Hooktongue Slough we send Baron Hannis Drelev and his retainers to establish an outpost to secure this most vital trade route.” The nobleman seated next to the General in the chain mail stands and approaches the high table with a bow where he receives his charter.

”And last, but not least, we charge this band of highly skilled adventurers" he indicates your table with a wave of his hand "to explore and chart the area known as the Greenbelt and to secure our borders from the lawless bands who shelter there.” so saying he signs the last scroll with a flourish and stands expectantly, waiting for someone to approach and accept the charter.
As the conversations around the table begin to wind down, and the mood seems to shift from festive to restive, despite the efforts of the quartet quietly playing in a corner of the room.
As you look around you notice several of the tables nearer the high table seem to have already been claimed. At one table, a handsome man wearing full plate armor, a tabard emblazoned with the longsword symbol of Iomedae worn over it, sits locked in deep discussion with similarly armored men. At another table a man dressed in noble finery sits with another man, wearing a suit of highly polished chain mail, airily gesturing with his wine cup while observing events. At a third table sits a hard-eyed man, his dark hair (turning grey at the temples) pulled back in a ponytail, warily eyeing the arriving guests as his men seem particularly uninterested in the festivities going on around them. As you enter the room this man raises his glass to you in a quiet salute.

Herbal concoctions are typically thick and sludgy, and their creation time, caster level, spell duplication capabilities, and all other variables and properties are identical to those of potions created using Brew Potion. As long as it isn't too over the top, liking trying to run while carrying an anvil or carrying half of the general store with you I'm not too concerned. How many times have you seen characters carrying all their gold with them when it's actually supposed to weigh 20 pounds or more? By class kits do you mean starting equipment? Then no, you'll have to purchase them.

3. Would you like us too mention what Leadership Role we have in mind for our PCs or will that be dealt with later down the line?
That can all be worked out later when you begin to establish your kingdom. Given the high rate of attrition of PbP games I don't think it's necessary for someone to declare their role now only to have to bow out at a later date. That said, it doesn't hurt to have a goal in mind.

Delightful wrote:Character is coming under way. I have a human fey sorcerer specialized in enhancement spells in mind.

1- How long have you been GMing? Is this one of your first games, or have you been GMing since the dawn of Pathfinder itself?
I've been playing and GM'ing Pathfinder since it's inception. D&D since, probably, before you were born (since 1980, at least).

2- Have you ever GMed a PBP before? It is a very different beast to real-life games (having run games in both formats).
I've played and GM'ed PbP before and am familiar with the nature of the beast.

3- What would you say is your GM style? Are you very RP-heavy? Do you jump from one encounter to the next?
I prefer to let characters have their say before moving on to the next encounter (I have been accused of letting things linger too long on occasion). What I like about Kingmaker is that you're not "on the clock" so to speak and that there is plenty of time to get into all sorts of mischief.

4- What are your posting expectations? 1/day? Multiple times per day? Once every few days?
While once a day is ideal, I understand that real life has a tendency to get in the way. An absence of a couple of days isn't really a deal breaker. However an absence of a week or more without forewarning (or a letter from your physician, lawyer, or clergy) will be a cause for concern, prompting a PM from me to see if you're still alive/interested in playing. After 10 days without a post (or PM reply) your character (and you) are gone.

5- Is there any way that we could be sure that you won't vanish three days into the game? I hate to have to ask, but given the new profile, and the fact I have literally had that happen to me before, I have to check.
Other than my word, no.

Overall, I certainly do hope that all my worrying is for naught. In any case, thank you for your consideration!

Darivan Orlovsky wrote:Hello! Dotting in with my submission, a Human Paladin of Apsu.

Recruitment begins today and will stay open until 6:00 P.M. (CDT) July 3rd (or until such time as interest begins to wane, a week at minimum. I will give notice that we are closing recruitment early). Given the nature of that (American) holiday week (and the fact that I’m off work on Sundays and Mondays, and it’s much easier to start a game without the distraction of work) the game won’t officially kick off until Monday, July 8th.

• Classes- Anything Paizo has publish is considered fair game although some might have a harder time explaining what they are doing in the River Kingdoms (Eastern type classes, especially. Although a Ninja from Daggermark might be intriguing). Furthermore, I prefer characters that can fill a certain roll. I generally choose along certain lines Arcane, Divine, Melee, Melee (ranged), Skilled, and Hybrid (although the Hybrid classes from the Advanced Class Guide certainly fill this niche, I also consider the Bard, Magus, and those who don’t neatly fit among the other five to fill this role). Barbarians, Monks, and Rogues may be of either the vanilla flavored or Unchained variety while Summoners MUST be Unchained.

• Races- While I prefer keeping to the races found in the Core Rulebook if you think you can convince me why some of the more monstrous races would be interested in exploring and clearing the Greenbelt of bandits feel free to try.

• Abilities- We will be using the High Fantasy (20) point buy system.

• Hit points- Full hit points at first level. Every level after first you will roll for your hit points. If you roll less than ½ your hit dice+1 give yourself that minimum (i.e. you can never do less than ½ HD+1).

• Skills- We will be using the Background skills option.

• Feats & Traits- Everyone will start with two traits (one of which must be from the Kingmaker Player’s Guide). You may select a third trait by taking a Drawback as well.

• Starting Gold & Gear- Maximum starting gold for your class. I want everyone to be well prepared for survival in the wilderness. If you choose the Pioneer trait your starting horse is a light riding horse and that’s it. No tack, no harness. If you want it to be war-trained I expect you to pay the difference between the two versions (If you have the Handle Animal skill you may train it on your own for 50% of this difference).

• House Rules- A couple of rules I’ve been toying around with. Character Death- While I don’t go out of my way to kill characters, it might happen. A character is considered dead at negative his constitution score + his level. Also, at 7th level and your kingdom is up and running all players will receive the Leadership feat for FREE, with the caveat that they are not to be adventuring with the party but to be used to fill Kingdom leadership roles. They will still advance as per usual, just that they won’t be going out into the field with you. If you wish to have your cohort travel with you, you can certainly forgo this boon and take the Leadership feat on your own. You may only choose one of these options.

I will be incorporating characters and encounters from the CRPG as well when they become available.

That should pretty much cover everything I can think of. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
I’m looking for six players to join me as I run the Kingmaker Adventure Path.
