Can I take one too, since I already have chronicle sheet for that game?

Pretty sure you still can, since your character adventured with me. IIRC when you replay for no credit, you still have to mark off expended consumables on your ITS. I'd say just mark it on your ITS with my PFS# and the spell level.

Dark Archive

Light spells counter darkness spells of an equal or lower level :)

Dark Archive

My options are:

  • Charlemagne Caligula Desiderius: Human Unchained Summoner 1 (out of combat scout/skills eidolon, Summon Monster SLA in combat)
  • Breezy Sunshine Essence: Vine Leshy Cleric 1 (Evangelist) of Erastil (support/archer)
  • Engelbert Hrolf Feidlimid: Suli Skald 2 (support/front line)
  • Nicodemo Viggo: Human Cleric 2 of Lamashtu (debuffer/a bit of support. Why the Society let him join is anyone's guess)

Dark Archive

Hello, I heard there was room here. I have several characters in range and would love to play.

@Dennis I just switched from a 7-8 table to the open 10-11 spot.

In that case its a no-brainer - Warpac will spend the 2 PP for that atonement and take Resilient Armor as his feat in the stone.

Wow, that is a nice boon!

Isn't it?! I used a GM star replay for this game we just finished to get it again :)

If a wizard who was subject to Nightmare had open spell slots from the previous day, could they still spend the time and prepare spells in them? Nightmare says arcane casters cannot regain arcane spells for the next 24 hours.

Reductions in duration, number of targets, and the power of the actual spell effect are very disappointing to me. Here are some comparisons of classic/iconic spells:

Air Walk

  • 1e: 1 minute/level
  • 2e: 1 minute

Bless
  • 1e: 1 minute/level, 2 buff effects.
  • 2e: 1 minute max, requires spending an action to concentrate each round, 1 buff effect

Cloudkill
  • 1e: standard action cast, 1 minute/level, CON damage, save for half
  • 2e: 3 actions to cast, 1 minute max, does HP damage (an average of 17.5 damage on a failed save), there’s now a mechanic for holding your breath. Cloudkill stands out because it’s a legacy spell. It doesn’t even cause Drained, which is close enough to what it did in 1e. Instead, it just does a small amount of HP damage

Confusion
  • 1e: 1 round/level (7 when you first get access), 15’ AOE.
  • 2e: 1 minute, single target, get a new save each round

Dimension Door
  • 1e: 600+ feet minimum, self and 1+ (scales) targets.
  • 2e: flat 60’ and you must see the space, self-only

Dominate Person (now just Dominate)
  • 1e: 5th level spell, 1 day/level, need to concentrate 1 round/day or target gets a new save.
  • 2e: 6th level spell, flat 1 day duration, new save every round (except on a critical failure, then each time a new order is given)

Fly
  • 1e: 3rd level spell, 1 minute/level.
  • 2e: 4th level spell, 1 minute flat, flying in 2e is much more restrictive (you fall out of the air if you don’t spend an action to move, and you can’t Step)

Glitterdust
  • 1e: blind on a failed save, no save to prevent becoming fully visible.
  • 2e: target is Concealed if invisibility is negated, 1 round on a successful save, Dazzled (not blindness) secondary effect

Haste
  • 1e: 1 target/caster level, multiple buff effects.
  • 2e: single target until heightened to 7th level, one buff effect that can only be used to Stride or Strike

Those are some pretty drastic differences. It does look like blasting as a caster is somewhat improved in some regards. But blasting has always been a subpar use of your limited spell slots because your martial party members can do HP damage all day without spending resources. Casters can alter reality in ways that martial cannot, so why spend your spells doing something they can already do without expending a resource? With many buff/debuff spells being much less effective, it feels casters are intended to mainly just do more HP damage in combat like other PCs. Or heal. I don’t think this much of a drastic cut in overall power is an okay solution to the caster/martial power discrepancy. I enjoy playing casters, especially full casters, and these changes to spells significantly decrease my enjoyment of playing Pathfinder.

@GM I GMed Waking Rune recently at a local shop on -regular- mode and the party fled without finishing the mission, once half of them were either dead or no longer on the material plane. So I'm familiar with the challenge.

Dark Archive

Tentatively interested in using a GM star replay for this, depending on my confidence in the rest of the party.

Characters I could play:
level 7: druid (nature fang archetype; archery feats + support caster), wizard (exploiter archetype; general arcane support + save-or-suck), chained summoner (non-combat skill-monkey eidolon; uses SMX SLA in combat and casts support spells)
level 8: mesmerist (melee frontliner + debuffer), shaman of the dark tapestry (summons advanced-templated monsters, divine support spells)
level 9: bard (dirge bard archetype; support/debuffer/archer), arcanist (occultist archetype; summons monsters, casts a mix of support + offense)
level 10: necromancer wizard

Several have improved familiars with high disable device, knowledges, and UMD.

Dark Archive

My characters I'd like to play:
level 7: druid (nature fang), wizard (exploiter), chained summoner
level 8: mesmerist, shaman of the dark tapestry
level 9: bard (dirge bard), arcanist (occultist)
level 10: necromancer wizard

Dark Archive

How funny, I'm GMing this tonight at a shop. I'd love to play. I have lots of characters in range.

Sorix Seraxis grew up in the hinterlands north of Kintargo near the border with Nidal, where her family still resides. She was born into the underground cult of Desna who actively opposes the Kuthite government of Nidal. Her family and network have been waging an underground resistance against the Umbral Court practically from the moment it took control of the nation. As a devout follower of Desna (Zealous drawback), freedom is one of Sorix’s most fundamental principles.

Astoundingly bright from a very young age and intensely interested in the arcane, Sorix came to Kintargo as an adolescent to begin her formal education in the magical arts as an apprentice under the court wizards of Count Auxis Aulorian. There, she earns her keep as a scribe and assistant to the court wizards and as a tutor and nanny to the Aulorian children.

The recent events and takeover of Kintargo has made Sorix decide enough is enough, and it’s time to act. Rumors of the Silver Ravens have intrigued her immensely, as she’s already very familiar with life as a member of an active resistance (Historian of the Rebellion campaign trait). She’s attending the protest hoping to meet the Silver Ravens and intends to ally with them as soon as possible. She was recently contacted by a friend of a friend who instructed her to look for a man there wearing one black glove on his right hand and no glove on his left hand.

Definitely interested in playing a CG Exploiter wizard, the ultimate rebel/rule-breaker. I'll work up a complete concept tomorrow.

Pretty much what I thought. Thank you.

Can a boon that is for "one newly created PC" be used on a PC that has GM chronicles applied but has never actually been played?

Dark Archive *****

andreww wrote:

Animate dead comes with a minimum caster level of 5 meaning you cannot animate more than 10HD of undead with a scroll. That makes the cost 375gp +250gp of onyx for 625gp.

Various chronicles have animate scrolls with greater amounts of onyx component attached to them with a higher CL.

I know that at CL 5 the scribe of the scroll could only animate a maximum 10 HD of dead (unless they scribed it in a permanent desecrate effect; wouldn't some clerics of evil deities hang out in desecrated temples? I realize that for PFS that's not how it works).

But could you buy a scroll with extra onyx attached, intending to use it in a desecrate effect? For that matter, could you buy a scroll with less onyx attached than that needed to animate the maximum amount of dead? I've never thought about scrolls with material components that can vary.

Dark Archive *****

Yeah Jezebel, my dhampir cleric of Set is 9 and Yazdan "the mad Qadiran" necromancer wizard is 7. They're both really fun to play.

I just thought for my other less-nercromancy-focused characters it'd be nice to have a potential 15 HD of recently deceased minion in their back pocket. I've been spending all my prestige on scrolls for every occasion lately.

Dark Archive *****

3rd level cleric scroll of animate dead = 375 gp
material component of onyx worth 25 gp per HD @ 15 HD = 375 gp
total cost = 750 gp, which can be purchased for 2 PP

--

seems really straightforward, just want to make sure I'm not missing anything before I start buying these.

EDIT: I see I'd need to cast desecrate, otherwise the HD cap would be 10.

Dark Archive

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and insight. How about this plan: I command the original shadow to command its spawn to go far far away when it's time for the daily saving throw, and come back after. Then maybe UMD a wand of Ill Omen on the shadow. And if it still succeeds on the save I just start spam channeling again until it fails to save again. Maybe I could also trap it under a ghost touch net until it is back under my command.

Dark Archive

Create Spawn (Su)

A humanoid creature killed by a shadow's Strength damage becomes a shadow under the control of its killer in 1d4 rounds.

--

If I have a Shadow enslaved via Command Undead, and it kills a humanoid creature, thus turning it into a shadow under the control of the shadow who killed it, do I indirectly also have control of the new shadow, by telling my slave shadow to tell the new shadow what to do?

Dark Archive

How is the damage for telekinetic throw calculated? Does it increase with augment summoning, or any other strength score increase?

Dark Archive

I love the flavor of the Dark Tapestry. The Black Butterfly is Desna's accidental representative within this cosmic void. How would an Inquisitor of this deity act as part of a group?

Dark Archive

animate dead says, "A skeleton can be created only from a mostly intact corpse or skeleton."

How long does a corpse remain "mostly intact"? If a human skeleton were butchered for meat, can the pile of bones be animated as a skeleton? How about a dozen or so human corpses each butchered, then transported for several days to a city to buy the onyx needed to animate them?

Dark Archive *****

Can anyone list all of the current 4-stars-required, single table specials? Apparently I need to provide my VO with a list to get them in my downloads. I've tried searching but haven't found a comprehensive list.

Thank you!

Dark Archive *****

Can I apply a newly-acquired race boon to a PFS character that has 9 GM chronicles but has not yet actually been played?

Dark Archive *****

I will be running this scenario in a few days and I have a couple questions:

B5. Barracks:

Quote:
A PC who succeeds at a DC 20 Perception check locates a secret door in the south wall, as well as the secret door at the other end of the short tunnel that opens into the corridor outside of area B7.

This references two secret doors; I only see one (that opens into the corridor outside of area B7). Help?

B9. Tseka’s War Room:

Quote:
Makino stands in the square next to the secret door in the north wall

I only see secret doors in the south and east walls. Help?

Could I buy a Handy Haversack for my faerie dragon familiar, to keep wands, scrolls, rods, etc. in?

Essentially I'd like to be able to say, "Riddywipple, would you kindly pass me my scroll of Breath of Life, please?"

Dark Archive

Does an ooze catch fire if hit by an alchemist's explosive bomb? If the ooze has two creatures engulfed, how are those creatures affected by that explosive bomb?

Dark Archive

Surprise round: Summoner uses his standard action to use his summon monster ability. Does the summoned monster get a full turn or only a standard or move action?

Does wearing a Mask of Stony Demeanor prevent a character from making a bite attack?

Quote:

And, in case your Gunslinger doesn't have the ability to cast spells themselves, you can take care of things with a friendly spellcaster, and a couple of items:

Wand of Abundant Ammunition (2 PP per wand, 50 castings)
Cracked purple prism Ioun stone (2000 gp, acts as a spell storing item for a single level of spell)

Have a spellcaster with AA on their spell list use the wand between encounters to fill the Ioun stone, use the Ioun stone yourself to cast AA on your ammo supply.
Rinse and repeat.

I'd like to start making use of that technique.

Also, an interesting option is taking 2 lvls of of Flowing Monk and continuing with Scout / Thug Rogue or Scout Ninja. Use a monk weapon with the agile property, make Dex your highest stat and take the feats Greater trip, fury's fall and viscious stomp. This way, every time you trip them you attack them twice and forcing them tomake two Reflex saves or become flat-footed. Procede with sneak attacking the hell out of them.

A Cestus or a Kama will do the trick.

Can someone help me build this idea with Ninja? I've been messing around in PCGen for hours and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to qualify for all the feats and at what levels to take them. This would be for PFS - is it even possible to get this build to be effective at a reasonable level?

What do you think are some of the most interesting items available in PFS? I'd like to "reward" some of my regulars who are great RP-ers and otherwise contribute a lot to making the games fun for everyone.

For example:

Spoiler:

Sanos Abduction: faerie dragon
Quest for Perfection: axebeak

The players I'm thinking of in particular are Samurai, Witch, Paladin, and Gunslinger.

EDIT: I hadn't heard of or thought about "cherry picking" before I posted this thread, and I apologize if this strays too far into that orchard. I just want to make my games even more fun for the players who help make the games fun. Thanks!

(not sure where to post this)

I like having background music on at my home Pathfinder games. I've made a station based around Final Fantasy soundtrack music that's pretty good, but it is getting repetitive. Does anyone else do this? any suggestions? Would anyone like to trade Pandora stations?

I got the PFS Winter 2013 GM Reward - Undine class boon. I know next to nothing about Undines. What would they be good at, from an optimizing perspective?
