Also, nice descriptions. I felt a little claustrophobic reading through the post and imagining the chaos, being buffeted by the strangers around us trying to get to safety and the fear-tinged violence that would break out as people turn to harm in their bid for safety.

I would say... you're looking at a spellcraft to learn more about the lion itself and as for a "suitable receptacle"... Well, that item needs to be safely capable of taking on whatever the lion's packing. Looking cool, of course, gets it bonus points.

Seeing that not everyone is immediately following him he waits very impatiently at the door.

"You needn't rush," Lady Morilla says, speaking a bit dryly. "You've some time before your appointment tomorrow."

Chuckling, Muesello adds, "I didn't want to rush you right into it, seeing as it's a delicate sort of work. Caution and discretion are far more important than combat ability or valor, though I expect you to have plenty of both if things take a bad turn with the tight schedule."

"If the archive is truly secret, then it's unlikely that you will encounter many people," the pockmarked man says consideringly. "But I imagine there might be traps, so be careful and resourceful." After a brief pause, Lady Morilla speaks up.

"Tomorrow evening, the Kitharodian Academy will host an extravagent orchestral performance in celebration of the Grand Prince's birthday. Such an event should last several hours, and if the rumors are to be believed, the Kitharodian's finest intend to play a complex medley of Taldor's greatest songs. Several of these are rather dramatic at times, and the sound should drown out any noise you make. With any luck, the performance will also draw away most of the guards."

Muesello then slides the cloth-wrapped parcels towards the group. "This one," he says, tapping the first parcel, "contains a deck of illusions that I am in the process of modifying; instead of each card creating a random creature, each one creates a copy of one of you. The illusions won't interact with anyone, but they can pretend to be reading and deceive the casual observer. Each only lasts for two hours, though. Stick a card to the bottom of a chair to create the illusion, and don't forget to remove the card when you're done. The other package contains several potions in case of emergency."

Liasna lets out a startled laugh at Gamin's quiet endorsement. "Thank you," she says, obviously surprised. "I don't think anyone's been kind enough to say that. Mostly, folk tell me that the gods must have some other plan in mind for me or that it was hubris that brought me low." Liasna chuckles.

"I don't think anyone's quite considered that its the gods themselves that might be making mistakes!" And if she didn't get smited for thinking that, much less saying it... Well, maybe Gamin was onto something.

"Thank you," she repeats the sentiment. "I don't know that I'd be able to laugh about it without this new perspective you've shared with me."

It's not an easy idea to accept, but it's an idea and she can accept that. It'll take a lot more consideration, long conversations in her own head, philosophical debate with others, but she thought it wasn't something that would go awry. Perspective, after all, was always healthy.

I'm so sad, guys. I had a nice, long post to go with all of the story bits and it apparently joined a couple of other posts last night in the unfortunate, fuzzy white space of the internet... so here's round two!

Liasna listened as her allies spoke, curious to hear what they had to say and... impressed. Everyone, it seemed, came from a different walk of life, from a different place, a different starting goal... There was a lot to admire here, in these people. She was pretty embarrassed when she thought of her own story, simple and... well. Bland. Especially in comparison to Baijiu's!

"My story isn't really much of a story," Liasna confessed, when Ayla turned towards her expectantly. "Just, I always wanted to be a warrior when I was younger. I dreamed of armor and weapons and fighting to smash aside my enemies and bring safety to my allies." Gesturing towards her decidedly non-metallic armor, she said, "But I wasn't suited for it. I was looking for too much, seeing too much of the shine." The oracle sighed.

"The gods saw fit to punish me by taking my sight when I was younger. They allow me to channel their energy and bring life to my friends, but I haven't been able to see past - oh, a tree's length? - for a very long time."

"It's, ah. It's not very interesting." She fell silent as they gathered up their things to proceed. It hurt, sometimes, to think about just how hopeful she'd been, about the way she'd woken up and suddenly couldn't see. Adapting to her altered vision had been difficult, nauseating, and an absolutely dreadful time for everyone. It had taken her a long time to adjust and she'd been confined to a sickroom for most of it, unable to keep most food down and unable to keep from crying.

"Let's be on our way, shall we? I'm sure good Kalkamedes still has a lot of ground to cover if those movements are any hint."

It's also how you keep "gameplay" threads clean of any out-of-character/out-of-game content! It's usually considered polite to dot/delete so you don't clutter the thread. Most of the discussion happens under the "Discussion" tab at the top, though there can sometimes be runaway conversations in "Recruitments" now and again. :)

"If need be, I can use both, I think," the Varisian says to Baijiu, almost absently. She taps at her chin before resuming her search only to pause a moment later.

"What's this?" Liasna startles at the crumpled paper she finds and carefully draws it out and does her best to straighten it without further damaging what could be some sort of clue.

Unsure of just what it is that she's looking at, she carefully sets the paper down on a table, gesturing towards it. "Does anyone know what or where this could be-ee?"

At the sudden, loud clucking sound from beneath the bed, Liasna visibly jumps and turns around, eyes wide. "Chicken?! Why a chicken? Where did it come from? Is it for eating? Did he... keep it for eggs, perhaps?"

Eyes trained in the direction of the clucking, she takes a careful step away from the bed.

It hadn't been but a few days after their return from their adventure at the Glass River when Liasna received the missive. Surprised by its contents, she'd absently thanked its deliverer with a few coins and moved on to pack up her things for this next trip.

After talking with a few people at the lodge, she calls in a few favors to get her hands on a wand of cure light wounds considering she's not exactly comfortable with the idea of getting caught out with her metaphorical pants down again. Chatting with other regulars, she trades some of her coins for more crossbow bolts and, investigating as per the note's suggestion, she looks into somnambulism as well. Although she was immune to magically induced sleep, whatever this somnabulism was might not require a magical sleep... And she did actually enjoy resting, but only on her own terms. She snagged a vial of gray smelling salts from a friend, grimacing at the test scent she took even as it sent shivers down her spine. Ugh.

She didn't know if she'd need them, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

The dark of night is strangely soothing to her. Ever since her sight had clouded over, she'd cursed most forms of light for the prickling it brought to her eyes, but when the sun went down and the main source of light was the moon and the occasional sconce or torch here and there, she found relief. Here, in the darkness, she was on more equal footing with others. They, too, were at a disadvantage without fire or magic.

Ahead, she could hear the uneasy movements of those who were not assured of their safety or companions and what seemed to be a... very excited person.

"Hello there," she called ahead to make the group aware of her presence. Liasna drew out her wayfinder as she approached, holding it up so they could see it. "Are we all waiting for Venture-Captain Heidmarch?"

She gives a low whistle, duly impressed. "It seems that the golem has experienced quite a bit of unpleasantness here." She lets the others express their findings, finding them to be true... But claw marks?

Seo-yeon leaned in a bit closer to see what Fumbus was talking about. "Good eye, Fumbus," she praises, making a mental note of the goblin's keen observation.

Hi everyone!

I've just heard that there's going to be a category five hurricane hitting my area around Thursday. I've never actually experienced a hurricane before, but the internet tells me that power outages are entirely normally, so I wanted to make sure that I made sure my tables were okay while I'm out.

I'm hoping that if the power does go out, it'll come back quickly, but I also don't want to make any assumptions about the situation because, again, I've never done this before.

That said, could I get someone to look in on and possibly sub for my games in the event that I'm unable to do things?

I'm running The Wounded Wisp (6-10) and The Cost of Enlightenment (9-01). @_@

"Eek!" Kaya ducked at the sudden vortex and throws up her arms to keep from getting caught up in the watery swirl.

Once the creatures are all gone, water and all, she shakes her head. "They appeared and caused quite the mess, but now that they're gone, it feels rather less." She pauses, grimaces, and adds, "The mess, I mean." The rhyming had gotten to her at the end, but they were at least happily done with the whole lot.

Okay, so in catching up, I might have been a bit confused, but... Is the kitsune's name actually just... Caught???? I've been looking at the scrolls and such thinking that the word itself was the answer to another riddle, but didn't think it would be his actual name. @_@

At this sudden shift of events, Kaya stops abruptly, doing all in her power to keep from palming her face. She'd definitely seen stranger things than a grippli changing into a bird, but, uh... She couldn't much recall or think of those occasions.

What a day, what a day...

And if it was a matter of riddles, well. She was confident that their group could handle it - though she wasn't so good at them, it seemed her allies were quick of wit and clever enough to come up with something.

"Alright, then -- so long as you don't ask us to tell you your name."

Because who hadn't heard about the golden straw-spinning imp?

Wincing at the sheer number of rhymes being tossed about, Kaya only shakes her head. Considering her companions' tendency to rhyme - sometimes even accidentally - she doesn't quite trust herself to manage a serious tone. After arranging her thoughts in her head, she notes - without rhyming! - "Perhaps we ought to consider the first two pieces? May the winner wear gold while the loser eats crow/Knowing nothing save that which he knew not to know." Kaya tapped at her chin. "Perhaps this person knew something he shouldn't know and was found out? Oh that could be the strange trick he used to win, couldn't it?"

She shrugs. It's in her people's nature to get up to the occasional mischief and though it might not always pan out as they would hope, it certainly could cause trouble. She remembered what the boy from earlier said and considered the information before volunteering:

"Remember, she asked for the scraps as well as the fox, so... we out to keep an eye out for that other kitsune -- he may look like Virml."

Kaya winced at the sudden shift in lighting, but moved with the group, looking around them in case of an assault. What they were instead faced with was aptly described by the oracle - a giant, ugly vulture. "That's --" Kaya wrinkles her nose. "That's just foul." "Aloha," Kaya greeted her. "Kāheaʻia wauʻo Kaya." Smiling, she adds, "ʻAʻohe pono e hopohopo no ke kī a me nā pōkō. Ke hana nei mākou me ka palena manawa."

Sylvan:
Hello. I am called Kaya. No need to worry about tea and snacks. We're operating with a time limit.

Gesturing towards water and its evident relationship with the literature in the room, she adds, "E kala mai iaʻu inā hoʻohenehene kēia kumu, akā ke manaʻo nei wau he kai kou,ʻa ...ʻAʻole maikaʻi no nā puke."

Sylvan:
Forgive me if this causes insult, but I do believe your seawater is, ah... Not good for the books.

Okay, that sounds like it could be helpful - Etude will go attempt to go and inform the guards and explain they have the aggressors pinned in case the guards would like to help (and maybe get a chunk of the glory).

"Oh, woah," Kaya blinks, impressed. She'd gotten the impression that the people she'd be handling this venture with would be frankly fantastic, but she hadn't realized she'd be traveling with a full troupe of effective entertainers and, she hoped, effective fighters and dismantlers. She'd be a bit disappointed if they were disassembled at the first fight...

But anyone that could sing so well would undoubtedly be equally dedicated to other pursuits... Or Shaine wouldn't have let them down here.

She applauds. "Nixie, that was quite nice!" she exclaims, earnest.

"What was he, a werewolf?" Kaya blinked, a bit discomfited by the comparison. She grinned as the others began rhyming, enjoying the entertainment and... maybe a bit curious as to how far it would go.

A gathlain? What on earth was that? She eyed the two creatures suspiciously before shaking her head. Well, they weren't doing anything wrong, right? They were just... kind of fishing in the library. Kaya giggled at the very idea. Still, they had to have a reason, right? Looking around, she notes that some of the scrolls appear to have some value, but before she can do anything, their Undine handles it, snagging bit by bit without so much as a single bubble.

"But does it make sense to ask that of a non-fey?" Kaya points out, flicking an ear. "And besides, if you make too much of a ruckus, you'll scare all of the catches away! Is that what you want? I thought you wanted to get some good ones!"

"They'll have time to see it later," Etude points out. "Let's go see what it is - if it's loud enough that you heard it, it should be slow to move around."

"Eurgh, goblins! And their dogs!" Etude scowls at this new development and draws her rapier. She could identify them, but that was about all she could get out of her limited view of the field. Growling under her breathe, she begins reciting some of the older stories she could think of, each a great lesson on the habits of goblins and how they (often) find their own dooms. Inspire courage +1
