One of the best boss fights I ran Was an ogre chieftain who had a child tied to it's shield, the PCs were too afraid they might hit the child to do much AND there was a library near by where all the town's citizens were being held. Every 4 rounds a goblin rogue holding a huge torch would come running towards the library trying to set it on fire.

It was fun to see the panic on my player's faces

goblins smash
and goblins gash
goblins beat
and goblins eat
burn the home
and eat the gnome
delicious baby jelly
fills my belly
kill the dog
and eat the frog
goblins kill it right

I would take the redeemed kobold feat. It gives bonuses to diplomacy with good creatures as well as bonuses to channeled energy. back round wise it gives you a metallic color.

with each installment pathfinder books get more and more obscure.
