I both GMed it and played it. I really like this one. It's definately not everyones cup of tea, but no scenario is.

I think a lot of people either misinterperated something here or somehow got the impression that the characters are required to agree with the philosophy of the subject of the final encounter.

I thought that it needed a harder combat to get 5 stars from me, but I see lots of people complaining about one encounter. I can't fathom how that's too difficult so I'm sticking with 4 stars.

I really enjoyed both playing and running this scenario. It's got a great mix of RP and combat, tons of cool stuff in the background for the GM to reveal to the players (gotta love the bridge in Chessed) and my all time favorite non-boss villain in Neddrick Istvarti. I really hope that he shows up again in a later scenario.

The crash site is really pretty basic when you get down to it. Both times I GMed it the optional encounter was skipped due to time (it's easy to go over on the RPing in the first half of this one). The "traps" are a little hard to adjudicate, and I'm not entirely sure that my take on them is how the writer intended, so they are the only thing I'm not completely loving about this scenario but the showdown with Phalanx has never failed to be intense and fun in any of my run throughs.

I really can't fathom how this gets on so many peoples top scenarios lists. The basic premise is all right I guess, and there were parts that I enjoyed in it. I even think that the GM did a decent job with the scenario when I played it, but it just felt like whatever we did... didn't matter.

Capture this guy we are looking for... he gets an arrow through the neck and dies while we are staking out the place he's supposed to meet his employer.

Stage the transport of a religious icon to draw out the enemy so we can capture them... it leads us to some dirty counter-trap.

I've actually never felt like an adventure was more rail-road than this one, even when you aren't given options. Perhaps it was the way things worked out for us and seeing through the illusuion of having options made it "feel" more like we were being railroaded than I would have felt otherwise.

Perhaps if I read it to GM it I might change my mind about it... I just didn't enjoy playing it enough want to GM it.

Why does hard = bad

4/5

First off, I really enjoyed this scenario. We played at the high tier in a 5 player party, and I might be biased, because my character got to shine in it, but I thought it was really cool. The only reason I can come up with for why it gets so many bad reviews is because it is hard... like really hard, coupled with a negative "boon" if you blow it. I get that a party without the right tools could TPK, but I guess that makes me feel even more satisfied with our run-through. We had a lot of stumbles, but a couple of really clutch spells/equipment got us through with good rewards.

We got beat down in the first room, it was a real slugfest. I was happy that when my primary weapon didn't work well against the robots, my Adamantine Mace was the perfect backup. I'm pretty sure someone else had an adamantine weapon as well, still there were rounds where death was a real possibility for at least one character.

I thought we had some fun RP with the enemy agent once we were in the main hall of the museum, we got the info that we could out of her then ventured upstairs.

We got ourselves into a lot of trouble up on the second floor, initiating the both the combats here at once because of how we moved and we really had to dig deep to prevent anyone from dying because of it.

The final "fight" was completely avoided thanks to the spell selection my Inquisitor has, coupled with high social skills. It was a good thing too, because we were kinda lacking in AoE spells in that party. The GM described the abilities of the end boss after we were done and I was sure glad we were able to talk through things... Once again, Tongues FTW!

I really like the premise of this adventure, and the atmosphere, given a good GM, is sufficently creepy to make it pretty memorable.

Our party was pretty lucky. The first encounter we were mostly able to avoid, with some characters distracting the adversary while magic was employed to sneak out our first objective. I have to admit, I think this adventure could have benefitted from a little more interaction with the powers-that-be in Nidal, but that might have made the scope of the adventure too big. The Cairn itself was super-creepy and atmospheric. We were well prepared for the challenges inside so we did well getting through but the environmental obstacles could easily have nerfed a lot of character builds. The final fight went a bit easy for us, black tentacles FTW! It might have gone entirely differently though if the BBEG hadn't gotten wrapped up in it.

I'm also a fan of scenarios where pure murder-hoboism gets punished, and we almost attacked someone who turned out to be a part of the mission objectives. A little more aggression on our part and we might have missed out on some faction boons, luckily cooler heads prevailed.

I think in the hands of a lesser GM it might not have been as good, but my play through was great, and could only have been better if there had been more challenge getting through Nidal.

I like the uniqueness of this model. Mine had a mediocre paint job, kinda drab and uninspired color sceme, but about what I would expect. His face isn't good, but far from the worst I have seen in this set. If he didn't have a falcon perched on his arm this would only be a 3 star rating but that unusual detail bumps him up in my book.

I want to love this model... it has so much potential, but up close in person it just looks bad. The sculpt is decent enough, but something about the choice of colors and/or the poor paint job on the one I got just makes it a dissapointment

Cool model, too bad it looks like the face on mine was painted by a 3 year old.

I love the sculpt on this model. It's going to really work nicely as an NPC or character mini. Somehow the paintjob quality from this line has slipped quite a bit, and the face on my Greta looks pretty sloppy... no where near as bad as some of the models I got from this set but not up to the standard that was set back when the Shattered Star set was out.

My only complaint with the model I got was that he was missing his head, then I realized that it was supposed to be a Triaxian character and decided that it was a blessing in disguise since it will make it easier to put a different head on.
