There!

He spots her. It is hard to make her out in the crowd because most humans look the same. Her head down is yellow,

Not a particularly beautiful yellow, but bright enough for a female I suppose. he thought.

Luckily she walks upright with a tall posture that helps Altair to find her. She walks a lot of late. Ever since she had moved from her old nest into the new smaller nest. Altair doesn't want to get too attached to this human, but she did feed him... and he was beginning to miss her smile.

Watching her, she turns down a lane. Altair takes flight then and finds himself looking down upon her.

Humans are strange.

Beside her upon the ground is another human, male. He is skinnier than most and needs to bathe.

So strange these humans. To go hungry and yet be surrounded by so much food to forage.

Altair watches as his human gives the male human something and moves on.

She is wasting her own food again! That human is not her offspring.

Altair calls down

Wasting food is a silly thing! That human isn't your offspring.

Turning she looks up at him with green eyes. Helena Betancourt, the only human Altair has ever kinda liked. He sees her smile, not the fake smile he sees her use all the time with the other humans, but her real smile.

Your face looks better with a smile once in awhile.

Hello you! she says. I hope you are staying out of trouble! Please come down here with me.

She extends her finger. Its tip is painted green. Altair flies to it.

We are connected.

He stays with her, as she goes throughout her area of this city. She gives out small bits of food, shiny metal, and healing. Though he does not understand it, Altair does note that she seems happiest when she goes on her walks. He also notes that many of the juvenile humans seem happy to see her.

After some time, when shadows are darker and longer, and when any sign of her smile has faded away, Helena Betancourt sits and looks out over the hills of the city toward the sea with a frown upon her face.

Will you sing for me Altair? she asks.

The current bar set by casters is so high, that martials need to be legendary in order to reach it. Mind Control, Teleportation, are superhero level powers. No amount of adding to fighters keeps them from sucking when 4 casters all cast dominate person or a similar on him/her in the 1st round of combat.

I usually just play the rules as written. As my group went back through the years and recounted our most memorable characters more of them were martials than casters so there is something not quantifiable there at work for my group.

I sometimes make a few changes when I would want to limit magic power.
Here are some.

Fatigue line effects mental stats as well as physical. (Kirth I believe does this as well)

Wizards and Sorcerers MUST have some specialization. I usually use three tiers. There are two Primary Schools, three secondary schools and the rest. They can use 0 - 3rd level spells from all schools. 4th - 6th level they can only use universal and their secondary/primary school spells. 7th - 9th they can only use universal and primary schools.
Sometimes I change it to lose a school at each new spell level but this is more bookkeeping.

Divine are similar except spell lists are not organized into schools but instead spheres of influenced based mostly on domains. They get all domains of their deity. 2 at first adn the others at later levels. They van cast all 0 - 3rd level spells on spell list. 4 - 6th level within any sphere of power they have chosen (9 Larger list of spells than current domains) and 7th - 9th within only their 2 primary spheres of power chosen.

This reduces the ability to do everything but in play I see high level casters still very effective.

The final piece is this, and it is perhaps the most important, I let certain spells be cast within different schools. Someone wants healing to be in necromancy and can explain how that works for their character... GREAT, they have cure spells that are officially school necromancy. Someone wants mage armor to be abjuration... sure. Sometimes this changes some aspect of the spell, but oh well. If players can argue it, cool.
Martials need to be better.
Svetlana I am so sorry that you have had to go through this these last few months. Unfortunately as my comrades here have stated, we must act. It is in our charter and truthfully it is the right thing to do. You deserve peace here and as unpopular as this is going to sound, the bandits deserve to have their hands forced in making a life change that brings them out of their rut. I say unfortunately only because if we should put up a fight with the few that come, it is very likely that this could get a lot worse before it gets better. Now, we Svetlana, we need to know that we have you and your husbands support on what we will need to do here. Your kindness has been great and I hope that we can repay you in action. Please let me know how we can make these next few days easier for you and please let us know if we ever ask too much of you.

Then looking to the rest of the troupe...

I am not sure that we should make any changes to the facilities. Perhaps it would be best if they come fully within these walls entirely unaware of any danger on their part.
Agrona mentioned surrender. I would like to see these people given a chance to turn themselves over. Our charter mentions the sword and rope being used only on unrepentant banditry. We first must give them a chance to repent. With that in mind...

If so, this class is waaaaaay overpowered.

Assuming I am mistaken, the Draconic Power feature is way overpowered. A real mature adult red casts as a 9th level sorcerer.

This class gets almost everything by level 18. My guess is the player will multiclass one level of cleric and one level of sorcerer. Now you have a mature adult dragon not casting as a 9th level sorcerer, but instead casting as an 18th level sorcerer/18th level cleric. In addition if the CLASS column means they get another class' abilities as well, they take all fighter and are now a dragon 20/ Sorcerer 18/Cleric 18/Fighter 13

If I were another player in this group, I would feel out gunned.

That ability alone is issue. The ability to have another class built within is strange. Why do the dragons racial abilities improve on the levels that the dragon is gaining class levels?

This class pretty much gives a gestalt class of dragon/whatever/cleric/sorcerer.

Unless you go back and let the others make racial classes to go alongside regular classes as well, this is way too much, in my humble opinion.
The class column seems to suggest this character has access to other classes built into their own progression?
I only ask because I started one, and it is difficult. I have started to try and rank abilities 1 - 5 in usefulness so that I can adjust the cost. For instance, 9th level wizard spellcasting is a 5, so I separate it into 5 "Feats" and you can choose to purchase 1, or, 2,3,4,5.

Writing out all the options has grown tedious and I was finding that I was needing to make-up some more super powered "feats" for the martial type of concept.

I also include "feats" to increase HP, Base Attack, saves, and skills per level.

Alternatively if I could make a list of class abilities and their value 1 - 3 or 1 - 5, you could simply use this list to pick a class, but then trade out appropriate abilities as you see fit. So if consensus stated that 9th level divine casting is exactly equal to 9th level arcane casting, then you could play a cleric to the god of magic and trade spell lists.

This would represent how magic originally started. Then through thousands of years smart people developed a series of languages and movements that could take these and make them much more practical.

#1 Rituals take 10 minutes per level of spell to prepare. Once prepared the spell is "hung" as would be the case for a wizard after preparing his/her spells.

#2 This time can be divided by the number of people who successfully involve themselves in the ritual.

#3 To successfully involve yourself you must succeed on a spell-craft check = 10 + Spell Level. You also must know the ritual by heart OR have a book detailing your role in front of you throughout the ritual. Meaning six people doing a ritual to prepare mass fly would need to ALL have a ritual book in front of them or some of them would need to have learned it by heart.

#4 You may only learn rituals whose spell level are 1/2 your own character level. You may only ever know 2 rituals per rank in Spell-craft. To learn a ritual you must succeed at spell-craft check equal to 15+Spell Level and can only make one attempt per spell per new rank.

#5 One person is thew leader of the ritual. If that person has the ritual on their spell list, then the ritual time is divided in half. The spell that is hung, regardless who who is the recipient, is done so with the leaders stats in mind. Caster level is equal to the leaders caster level + 1/2 caster level per level in a non-casting class. The leader must make a concentration check equal to 10 + spell level to succeed.

#5 One person is the recipient of a ritual. The spell is "hung" in their mind. You may only receive 1 ritual spell level per character level per day.

#6 If the leader of a ritual has a feat that can modify the spell, including eschew materials, then they may modify the ritual as such, but all level increases per metamagic feat are still intact.

New Feats

Ritual leader

+3 to concentration checks during ritual checks. This increases to +6 when you reach 10th character level.

Strong Ritual

+2 to caster level for rituals that you lead. This may not increase beyond your character level. This may be taken more than once, its effects stack.

I have for years wanted to run a campaign where the characters are asked to set up a colony on a new continent.

It would involve first the logistics of getting items and crew and a ship readied. Then landing and clearing out a safe area in this new uncharted dangerous land. Maybe meet some locals and at the same time find a good place to start building a small settlement.

They could spent time adventuring or trying to find new resources, mining etc. It would be pretty open ended and mostly character driven. Some dangers would always come up and they would be force to proactively handle them or re-actively defend the small settlement etc...

Then I heard a little bit (not much so don't spoil it) about Kingmaker.
