I bought the first book by David Gross and I really couldn't get in to it. Don't know why but it didn't work for me.

Andy

You and I are apparently in the minority view for that book...

...this one is IMO a better work. The narrative seems more consistent, and, for the most part, the use of magic is more in line with the rules (though see below). There were a couple of things that were just a bit too neatly/easily wrapped up at the end, though that's more or less expected with most light fantasy. It's a good read, and it got me sufficiently curious about the witch class to go back and re-read the description.

A couple of thing about the book that I did not like. First, it continues the trend of adding new (undocumented in game terms) magical abilities to the main characters.

Second, there are some major questions left unanswered or glossed over. However, I'm now hoping this is just the first book in the series with these characters, and that the next book includes some sort of search for answers to those questions.

Regarding pricing on the book: initially, I was moderately annoyed by the $10 price tag for a paperback that's not that long. However, as long as the price includes digital copy of the book, I'm okay with it. :)

I would fairly appreciate a steampunk deck, too

+1 ... please see this message board discussion and add your suggestions!

This book has some great ideas marred by a couple of visually grotesque ones. The bloat mage and the group with mouth issues are NOT for the squeamish. Unfortunately, I'm part of that group. I wish I could un-see and un-read some of this book.

[the misprinted map in question isn't going to be in the Kingmaker Map Folio anyway.

Here's a thought: Why not get the printer to do a one-page sheet of the misprinted map in question, and then add it into the pack w/ the map folio?

Do any of the tiles have a forecastle, so you can have raised decks in both the bow and stern of the ship?
Also, do the images shown on the product page include ALL of the tiles?

My husband runs a game at the monthly meetup. His setting is basically Napoleonic clockpunk plus high magic. I've got item cards worked out for most of the charcters' equipped items.

Except for the guns.

Almost all of the characters have guns: usually a rifle and a couple of pistols. One has a rifle that magically reloads in only 3 rounds (instead of the usual 10-20 -- reloading is a slow process when you've got flintlocks).

I have exactly one pistol on an item card.

I just read about the gun class in Kobold Quarterly #13.

Is there any chance of getting a weapons & stuff deck that focuses on guns and their trappings?

We'd love to see flintlocks, wheel locks, and breech loaders; arquebuses, blunderbusses, rifles, pistols, shotguns, pepperbox pistols, revolvers (without having the set be revolver-heavy) ... plus bayonets, powder horns, pretty much anything used for guns from 1600 to 1900. Having obvious magical effects on some of them (maybe 1 in 5) could be cool.

So, am I supposed to believe that every time I've said, "Give me a pad of paper," women in the office have been cringing?

...and on and on and on.

All of these are offensive to women? All of these make you think of menses and feminine hygiene?

Seriously?

Gah, get a clue. Of course not, because almost all of the examples you gave have their use inherent in the compound noun: i.e., "sketch pad" is obviously for sketching. The reason "iPad" has women giggling and annoyed (yes, both, often in the same sentence) is because it does NOT have any of the descriptors that you listed with all of the other stuff. For example, when TV commercials talk about "the pad", you know it's a feminine hygiene product even if you can't see the screen. And the souped-up version of the iPad is already being called the "MaxiPad" among at least a few groups.

One of the most common reactions to the name that I've been reading on Twitter and elsewhere: "Doesn't Apple have any women on their product naming committee? Sheesh!"

Seriously, most women wouldn't expect most men to make the association between "iPad" and menstruation. Men don't have to deal with that every month of every year for upwards of 40 years. But I'd expect that Marketing types would at least ask around internally about opinions on a new brand name.

Nice amount of notice, too. I got the email about this at 3:41 a.m. today. Which is to say, after the buy-ban had already taken effect.

This decision to screw people over by not allowing sales of PDFs or even re-downloads of legal PDFs screams of lack of understanding of their customer base. I don't think they could have done a single thing that would go farther to *encourage* PDF piracy.

I think I'm done buying new Hasbro products. Not just WotC, all Hasbro stuff. (It's not like I was buying 4E stuff anyhow; I'm happy with 3.5 and Monte Cook's extras.)
