5/5 Venture-Lieutenant, Conventions—Gen Con

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Some exciting things here, and a great opportunity to be in the thick of things at a busy convention.

The Academy Assistant seems like it might be particularly rewarding for the right person.

Technically, this is a re-recruitment thread, but I can assure any prospective player that you really haven't missed much!

I recently took over as DM for THIS campaign, and we have found that two more players would be nice to have.

-WHAT HAS HAPPENED SO FAR-

Our heroes braved the horrors of the DEATH HOUSE under their previous DM. Following the end of that adventure, this DM left the group, along with one of the players. At that point, the group sought the assistance of a new DM here on the forums, and I was able to step forward. During this transition, one of the other players has chosen to move on.

Luckily, there are still four excellent characters in the game, and I will go over their roles later in this post.

At this point, the group has just started to explore the mysterious village they find themselves in, and have made the acquaintance of the son of the recently deceased burgomaster.

-WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THIS GAME-

Curse of Strahd can be a bit of slow burn at times. You won't be going straight to the castle to root out its occupant. In my game, there will be the opportunity for role-playing with the NPC's, and there could occasionally be some dramatic moments more akin to the classic soap opera Dark Shadows. At its root, this will be a good D&D game with some nicely fleshed out locations and NPC's (luckily, the book has done so much of that work for me).

I have worked hard on the google slides for this game. I have found some excellent digital assets that will help us suspend reality as you type your posts.

This is a game with a slightly slower pace than some I have been part of on this board. I try to make about 4-5 game play posts a week, and you are expected to make a similar number of posts.

Still Interested? Here's some character creation guidelines:

As noted, currently we have four players who have crafted some fine characters. They are all third level, and it is expected that new characters be created at that level. Here's what we have:

1. Blaze, a centaur barbarian
2. Sven, a human artificer
3. Velspira, a tiefling sorcerer
4. Shandi, a human wizard

Anyone who knows much about this adventure will notice an obvious concern: there is no cleric in this group. In this recruitment, we're truly hoping to find someone who can create an interesting protagonist who can stare into the abyss without descending into madness. A cleric fits the bill for this nicely, but a paladin might do pretty well too. Someone who can occasionally take the starring role in this adventure, all while keeping up with 4-5 posts per week is important here.

We're recruiting two players, so you may certainly submit something other than a cleric or paladin. In fact, a sneaky thief might also be a great idea for this group, but I think we're open to just about anything for the sixth character.

You'll be creating a third level character using either the standard array or the standard point buy. You'll be expected to maintain your character here on the boards, keeping everything updated.

There is no need to fully flesh out your character until such time as you are chosen to join us. Instead, once you're ready to make a submission, I'd like to see just your basic idea for the character, including class, race, and a paragraph or so of background about this person you're bringing to life.

Here's the most important thing: the next post in this thread is a short scene I will present. Please react to it in character.

I am open to answering any and all questions.

There are a few seats left for this short jaunt through a couple of the Pact World's finest drinkin' establishments. I hope you'll join me!

Just follow this LINK and sign up for the third Cantina Job, which will take place here on the Paizo boards.

Greetings, all! What's that I hear? A distress signal?

Welcome to Precious Cargo.

I will need the following information from you:

1. Your character's name, class, race, and level.

2. Your organized play number + character number.

3. An email address for me to send the chronicle sheet.

4. Slotted faction.

5. Please put a "bot me" expression on your online character.

6. Instead of simply "dotting in" over at game play, please feel free to post a short background for your character. It can be a short description, or it can be narrative in form.

7. (Optional) A little bit about you as a player might be nice. I always enjoy getting to know the people I interact with here. On the other hand, I know some also appreciate the anonymity of the internet, so feel free to skip this part.

A little about me:

My name is Alan, and when I'm not playing games with all of you I'm working at a community television facility in the midwest United States. I live at home with my wife, two teenagers, and Chef Brian the cat.

I have been playing and GMing RPG's since 198coughcough.

Hello everyone!

I am looking for three players to join games that recently got started.

The first is Against the Aeon Throne. We are near the beginning of this trio of adventures, and our intention is to get through all three books in the AP. This group recently had a player bail, and are down to four players. I'd like to go ahead and add two players. Please see character creation (below) for more information of the types of characters we're looking for.

The second is Junker's Delight. Again, this is near the beginning (right now the characters are on their way to the first major location of this adventure). I'll be adding one character to this excellent low-level adventure. We haven't discussed it much yet, but I think there is a chance we will continue with the follow-up adventure "The Liberation of Locus 1."

Again, if you are interested in this adventure head down to the character creation spoiler (below).

Why am I adding three players? I think there is a demand for spots in Starfinder AP's right now. While I do need to replace one player, I think adding two more additional players is a good thing to help give some opportunity to players desiring this sort of experience.

BECOMING PART OF AN EXISTING GAME ISN'T EASY. On one hand, you want to jump in and add lots of colorful enthusiasm (and multiple posts) right away. On the other hand, you also don't want to step on the toes of existing players. They deserve their "space" as well in an adventure. I suppose I am looking for players who understand this dichotomy.

A little about me: I have been playing RPG's since 198coughcough (so, a long time--though I was a kid when I started). I'm a husband and a Dad from the midwest U.S., and I work at a busy downtown library in community television. I have always loved sci-fi, ranging from old 40's Flash Gordon serials to current gems like The Expanse. I GM three Starfinder games here on the Paizo boards. I also GM a game with a home group.

I will make Starfinder Society chronicle sheets available for all players who participate.

I am looking for players who are comfortable making 5-6 posts a week. I am generally a very responsive GM, so I will be making a similar number of posts per week. Like most PBP games, we'll probably slow down on the weekends, though I am hoping we can still see some posting Saturdays and Sundays.

I will end submissions for this on November 7th at midnight EST.

ARE YOU STILL INTERESTED? LET'S TALK CHARACTER CREATION!:

Level 1, any official Paizo source, using the standard point buy character creation guidelines.

You make use any official Paizo material to create your character. Yes, you absolutely may look at creative choices for races (though see below for some concerns and ideas regarding PC race).

I care more about your character’s personality than their backstory, and more about their backstory than their build. Here’s the basic information I want to see, feel free to include anything else you feel is relevant:

Name:
Race:
Class:
Gender and Pronouns:
General Backstory:
Personality:
Flaw(s):
Quirk(s):

We're playing heroes here. No evil or CN characters.

You may create two different submissions, one for each campaign. It's extremely unlikely I would pick you for both.

With Against the Aeon Throne, it's highly likely you will be one of the colonists that are part of a small colony called Madelon's Landing on a forest planet called Nakondis. Your colony has recently been invaded and occupied by the dastardly Azlanti. The colonist theme would be great to look at. I'd love to see some of the races from Azlanti space show up as a submission. This includes Brakims, Gosclaws, Neskintis, Screedreeps, Stelliferas, or Vilderaros. Perhaps you were a refugee escaping Azlanti territory who petitioned Madelon to join the colony!

In the colony, you met an android named Cedona. You're worried about her (along with several of the other colonists) who have disappeared since the arrival of the Azlanti.

I know the current group is hoping to add a mechanic for one of the two additional characters. The second new character could be just about any class.

Do you want to submit a character for the one spot I have available for Junker's Delight? Great! We already have a fairly balanced group that includes a mystic, technomancer, two soldiers, and an operative.

A mechanic may have lots of fun in this group as they explore the old junked starship graveyards that are part of this adventure, but I will entertain any classes.

I would encourage you to give strong consideration to one of the native Akitonian races. This includes ysoki, contemplatives, and ikeshti. You'll notice I didn't mention shobhad. We already have two, and things are CROWDED on our maps (shobhad are LARGE creatures).

Please post any questions you have.

Welcome everyone. There are slides linked at the heading of this group. Please take special note of a couple of new spells, some equipment, and the new "junkomancer" archetype I included in the slides for your convenience.

Welcome to beautiful KHEFAK DEPOT!

Please dot in here. Game play to begin week of 9/5/21.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

This is truly a rare opportunity.

We are adding one player to an existing Threefold Conspiracy PBP group here on the Paizo boards. We're getting ready to start book three of the Threefold Conspiracy adventure path, and sadly we're losing one player to real life. This is an excellent group that has been at it since May of 2020.

If you are interested, you may want to peruse our game play and discussion HERE.

As a new character joining us for the the third book DECEIVER'S MOON, you'll either be part of a mercenary company called Pike's Perytons, or a junior level Steward agent. Pike's Perytons were working for the Stewards when they came across the original group of PC's.

You'll create a 5th level character with the standard 9,000 credits worth of gear. This character has noticed some odd things going on with the Steward agents and mercenaries you've been working with (as the GM, I will let you in on these secrets--some of the information I feed you will be false, some may be true, and the original PC's won't know any of it to start off with).

Your character's personality is more important than your character's background. Your characters background is more important than your character's stats.

Here is the current dramatic personae:

1. Rar'gul, a trox vanguard
2. T'sorkel, a shirren mystic
3. Dr. Lilith Flint-Bridge, a halfling envoy/biohacker
4. John Rawlins, a human operative
5. Beauregard, a nuar witchwarper

As you can see, most of the bases are covered fairly well. At first glance, mechanic may be a good choice for a new character, but all classes will be considered.

I am generally fine with any race from an official Paizo source. I would expect a particularly interesting background should you choose a race that isn't seen often in the Pact Worlds. There are probably 3-4 races that are off limits. I won't list them here, but should you choose one, I will message you and suggest a plan B.

We're playing heroes in this game who generally have tried to do the right thing. No evil or CN for alignment.

Each of us tend to stick to the usual 6 posts per week. Occasionally that waxes and wanes, but this is a hard working group and we have already fought through two books and had a great time!

Go ahead and post a brief submission for your character that includes your proposed character's class, race, and a short background. No need to flesh out your submission just yet. If I would like to see more, I will ask you.

I do apologize that I am only able to offer one spot. If you aren't chosen, please watch for my recruitment thread for Junker's Delight, which will be coming soon (I'll be recruiting four new players for that one).

Welcome to AGAINST THE AEON THRONE. This is a three-volume adventure path, and we are going to work hard to get through all three books (which is a noble and admirable goal in play by post gaming).

Due to the fact that most or all of the characters are second level, and at least two of you have played (or are currently playing) this first volume, you should expect minor changes in many of the encounters to make them appropriately challenging, or in some cases just a little different.

The story, setting, and major NPC's will essentially be the same.

Our first goal is sorting out how each of you have gotten to know personally a female android named Cedona. She has recently been a resident of the Gallery, though she did leave several months ago to assist with a new AbadarCorp colony out in the vast.

Knowing that all of you are ambitious, she has arranged for you to pilot a ship the planet Nakondis with much needed supplies for the small colony. You'll be paid well. She has also worked with you to acquire the ship you'll use.

Greetings, all!

This is for the repeatable quest pack 3-11, Into the Veskarium. There are four separate short adventures, all taking place within (as you might guess) Veskarium space.

I anticipate making the first in-game post late this weekend, either Saturday night or sometime Sunday. I should have some slides ready by then as well.

We'll need the following information. As far as boons go, there are no particular ones you'll definitely have. Note that there is a starship quest, so you may choose a starship boon. I'm fine with making a switch after you read the introduction to the first quest.

Greetings, brave Starfinders! This for an Outpost IV game, and will begin on or about February 16th.

Most of you have heard this before: please plan on posting at least once a day. We may slow down a bit on weekends, though I hope to be able to at least make a GM post or two even then. Suffice to say, I think we're all doing our job if we're getting 6 posts a week in, and that means we'll finish this in a timely manner.

I will need the following information from you:

1. Your character's name, class, race, and level.

2. Your organized play number + character number.

3. An email address for me to send the chronicle sheet.

4. Slotted faction.

5. Day job roll (if applicable).

6. Please put a "bot me" expression on your online character.

7. Instead of simply "dotting in" over at game play, please feel free to post a short background for your character. It can be a short description, or it can be narrative in form.

8. (Optional) A little bit about you as a player might be nice. I always enjoy getting to know the people I interact with here. On the other hand, I know some also appreciate the anonymity of the internet, so feel free to skip this part.

A little about me:

We're looking to add 2-3 players to this existing game set on Absalom Station.

We have really just gotten underway, and we have lost two PC's. I think the other existing players (all three of them) are committed to making this work, as am I. What we have going has lots of potential.

Here's my original recruitment information:

THE GATEWAY DISTRICT spans the better part of one of Absalom Station's arms. Most visitors would find a patina of bustling travelers, middle and upper class dwellings with scenic views of the nearby armada, and businesses serving a wide range goods and services.

UNDER THIS PATINA there exists a corruption rooted deep in the establishments within the this neighborhood. Both petty criminals and crime lords conduct their business here. Religious teachers may at first seem fervent and sincere, but the heaven they promise can never quite be delivered. Far stranger things have found room to dwell in the warehouses and old hangars beneath the Gateway.

The Gateway District is dominated by three things: one of the largest spaceports on Absalom Station, a massive borough of businesses called THE GALLERY that cater to both travelers and locals, and an enigmatic, primeval stone arch.

This stone arch holds none of the sinister reputation that the arch at Fardock holds. No one has ever disappeared by stepping through it. It is, however, almost as much of a curiosity. The stone arch is covered in runes and carvings that some say come from well before The Gap.

IT IS INTO THIS WORLD that you step. How will you support yourself, your friends, and your business interests in THE GATEWAY?

Hello everyone! I'm Alan, aka "GM Quirk".

What's going on here?

I have been playing here on the Paizo boards in various PBP games for a few years now. I've been GMing about half of that time. Most of these games have been Starfinder Society games.

What's missing is the chance to work with some willing players to create an original world with original adventures. I find the idea of doing that very fulfilling, and I have been working on the ideas that go into Gateway to Absalom for several months now.

As the astute reader may have already surmised, this setting won't be completely original. I have always loved Absalom Station, and the information we already know about it gives us a firm basis to build upon. I know I appreciate beginning with something familiar. I can assure everyone of you who is interested in playing in this little world that everything you have read in the Pact Worlds book (and other Starfinder sources) is very much part of this world. I'm just expanding it a little.

What's "experimental" about this? For one, not only will you submit a first level character to use, but you'll also give me some details of a business or locale in or near the Gateway District, along with how your character is connected to it.

Finally, I am hoping there will be a certain "sandbox" element to what we do here. Yes, there will be some pre-programmed, somewhat linear adventures at the beginning to introduce the setting and get you to second level, but after that, it's up to you and your crew of Gateway residents to navigate this neighborhood and make it a better place!

I am hoping our adventure together will extend to fourth level, though perhaps there is a chance we'll go higher.

STILL INTERESTED? LET'S TALK CHARACTER CREATION!::
You'll want to think in terms of a first level character using just about any official Paizo source for things like theme, class, and equipment.
Please create a protagonist! You'll have the opportunity to right wrongs and create good in this world. No chaotic neutral or evil alignments.

There are some limitations for race. Of course anything in the core rulebook is fine. I'd also like to open up just about any race that exists in large numbers within the Pact Worlds as a possible choice. For example, Ryphorians are fair game, but Izaalguuns probably aren't.

As I noted, I'd also like you to detail a location or place of business associated with your character, or your character's friends or family. This location could be on The Gallery, or perhaps in a seedier neighborhood below The Gallery. Please let me know what your character's connection to this place is. If you are chosen, I will work with you as far as where this location will be on our campaign map.

This location will likely be a resource for your character. Perhaps it's a place to crash for the night, or use a medkit, or find a hot meal.

Our current roster includes a technomancer, soldier, and an envoy. An operative would be a great choice for a new character, as would a mystic or biohacker. I think we're open any choice for a class, so long as the player is dedicated to giving this a go.

Hello everyone! Please check out the maps, linked above, and make sure you can see and interact with them.

There will be much more to come soon. Sit tight. Things are about to get crazy!

Feel free to introduce your characters here.

You are all familiar with each other, having grown up together in the Gateway District, or perhaps having done business with each other for an appreciable amount of time.

Hello everyone!

I am looking for 4-5 players for The Chimera Mystery, the first adventure in The Threefold Conspiracy adventure path. Though I feel the need the to take things one book at a time, I fancy continuing with at least the second book in the series ("Flight of the Sleepers).

From the back of The Chimera Mystery book: "When the security officer the Chimera goes missing, the heroes are asked to investigate. Murder, misdirection, and misapprehension abound. But is this whole whodunit only part of a much larger conspiracy?"

The Chimera Mystery is an opportunity for players who like to truly role play to shine, in particular in the first half of the adventure. Players should also be ready for a few interesting scraps, in particular if we delve into the second book of the series.

A little about me: I have been playing RPG's since 198coughcough (so, a long time--though I was a kid when I started). Many of you who play lots of PBP games are right in the middle of your Outpost III games. With that in mind, we're going to be patient with recruitment. I expect to leave approximatley 10 days, perhaps even two weeks for all of you to submit your characters for consideration.

Some notes on race: there are a few races that just won't work with this AP (though all of the base and legacy races from the core rulebook are fine). I really don't want to give away which races from the various Alien Archives won't work, so if you end up choosing one of those races I will simply send you a PM and suggest you make a revision to your submission.

Backgrounds:
Your character will also need a reason for being aboard the Chimera, traveling from Near Space to the Pact Worlds at game start. The AP provides the following backgrounds, though you should feel free to create your own (subject to my input and approval).
Artist: You’re taking the Chimera to reach a showing or your next gig somewhere in the Pact Worlds. Whether the show is in a small gallery or venue on Absalom Station or a larger site, such as Songbird Station in the Diaspora, you plan on arriving on time and meeting your supporters and fans. This background fits well with the ace pilot, icon, and gladiator themes.

Entrepreneur: In attempting to start your own business, you received word that a firm within the Pact Worlds is interested in supplying the funds you need. They want you to come in person to present your business plan or a sample of your work, so you booked passage on the Chimera to take advantage of the opportunity. This background fits well with the biotechnician, corporate agent, and roboticist themes.

Intellectual: The Chimera is taking you back to the Pact Worlds after a successful expedition to a Near Space planet or interesting cosmic phenomenon. You have much information to impart to your colleagues, some of which you believe might further the understanding of your field of study. This background fits well with the scholar, xenoseeker, and xenoarchaeologist themes.

Traveler: Your home is in the Pact Worlds, and you’re coming back from an extended vacation. Alternatively, you’re on your way to tour the Pact Worlds as part of a whirlwind journey through the galaxy. The Chimera was the only vessel departing on your timetable. This background fits well with the spacefarer, tempered pilgrim, wild warden, and xenoseeker themes.

Veteran: Lucrative warrior work is on offer in the Pact Worlds. Whether you’re providing security for a ruthless corporation or aiding a small group against the predations of space pirates, the proposed job fits your morals. This background fits well with the bounty hunter, mercenary, outlaw, and space pirate themes.

Visionary: A vision from another plane of existence calls you to the Pact Worlds, so you purchased passage aboard the Chimera. You aren’t entirely certain what awaits you when you arrive, but you are sure you will be guided to where you need to be. This background fits well with the dream prophet, priest, and solar disciple themes; the theme can help you decide whether you are devoted to a deity or some other force.

Dot in here. More to come soon.

I think we're still quite a ways from actually starting this, as I am VERY rusty as far as the rules go. I'm also not sure what resources I have for maps, and I'm not sure how to translate them to Google slides.

But it's fun to start dreaming, and I invite folks to consider character ideas here.

Should we continue with this urban campaign set in the great city of Corvis, I would encourage everyone to consider a human, dwarf, gobber, ogrun, or trollkin resident of the city (or from somewhere nearby). Nyss or Iosan elves have always seemed out of place in urban Cygnar due to the background and setting information surrounding them, so I would discourage them.

This will very much be a Cygnar-centric game. Khadorans and Protectorate of Menoth characters will be met with suspicion. Though you don't need to be savory, fine, upstanding Cygnaran citizens, being generally supportive and not actively working against the crown is a good thing.

I think this campaign will have the characters be investigators, detectives, and occasionally mercenaries. Though the many conflicts and wars going on in the world will serve as a backdrop to the campaign, it's my hope not to turn this into a military campaign, at least most of the time.

Your main source should be the Iron Kingdoms core book. The Kings, Nations, and Gods, along with the Urban Adventures book, can also be sources.

It's not my wish to put limitations on character creation arbitrarily. Instead, I see it as a way to forge a strong, cohesive narrative.

Dream away on those characters! I'll be reacquainting myself with the core book, some of my old maps and notes, and a few old ideas for adventures deep in the cobwebs of my mind.

In the past I have spent a fair amount of time playing these games in person at my local game store. As with many fringe RPG's, there isn't a lot of interest locally anymore.

I have always felt the character creation system and mechanics of these games were top notch, and the setting is amazing.

Is there anyone with an interest in PBP? I am open to either the more urban-centric Iron Kingdoms RPG, or the much more wild Unleashed games (though they take place in the same "world").

Post a short background of your character here!

Hello everyone. I'll have some information I'll need from you soon.

Now accepting up to six brave Starfinders to assist with possibly delicate situations aboard Absalom Station.

I anticipate getting started on this sometime NEXT week (on or around Monday the 21st). EDIT: Two weeks out might be more realistic with Game Day still going on.

"One of the Society's foremost diplomats is just about to sign a major deal with a visiting alien species. Before the documents can be finalized, the visiting dignitary requests a tour of the station. In order to preserve the Society's negotiations and good standing with this species, the PCs must escort this dignitary across the station and avoid any diplomatic incidents."
