I still need to update Venture Captain Zhu Li Tullian's stuff from doing Eyes of the Ten, but I loved Part 1 of this so much I'm willing to burn a GM star on it and play her instead of my Swashbuckler, if you don't mind a replayer. I can have her all kitted out for another adventure by the weekend, if that's fine with you. Part 2 just kinda... never happened in my local group.

Zhu Li walks along behind Jordan, eyes and ears peeled for disturbances.

Perception: 1d20 + 1d6 + 20 ⇒ (10) + (5) + 20 = 35

My modifiers for spellcraft are higher than 21 and my UMD is 25, which is the DC to activate blindly.

Zhu Li abruptly stops and walks towards the figurines on display in the Tien gallery. She touches the osprey figurine and hones her will, the better to brute-force a magic item, and speaks a word; "唤醒“。"

The figurine shakes its metallic feathers and flutters onto Zhu Li's shoulder at a gesture. "It may be useful to us later," she explains, joining Jordan at the stairs.

Zhu Li accepts the scroll from Jordan and begins to chant, finishing the incantations written on the parchment.

She then slaps Arnaut bracingly on the back, lifting the pall of resurrection sickness from him.

"Do try not to do that again, please. I'd rather not rely on Shane's ability to realize you've died and teleport to our location with the perfect scroll for the occasion... again."

"... I could have sworn he was a wizard."

Zhu Li stands up and walks over to the other body, grabbing an indistinct limb and none too gently dragging it out of the room to get a good.look at it. "You know, the speed and relative ease with which we flaunt death is kind of unnatural. What meaning does it have that not even death is enough to stop us from being thrown into the meat grinder?"

"Not only am I only a dabbler in medical sciences, but I can't even see him," Zhu Li said, grunting with exertion as she rolled the bard onto her shoulders and stood with a grunt of effort. "Sahess, a little help? I need somewhere we can see."

I mean, it's not like I can do anything else with my turn.

There's no present threat, even though OOC I'm 90% sure Arnaut is about to rise as a Shadow and kick my ass.

Zhu Li snags an Eraminho Stone from the basin and rushes to Arnaut's indistinct side, blade coming free from its sheath almost by instinct alone, and she attempts to set the item floating around the bard's head so she can diagnose him, and possibly treat him. "Don't be dead, don't be dead. ELIZA! SOUND OFF, I NEED REAL MAGIC HERE."

"No, why would it be easy?" She mutters, before releasing the stone to float about her head.

Zhu Li walks up to the basin and takes one of the Eraminho Stones, pulling a compass marked with a glyph of the open road from her pocket and flipping it open, sliding the stone into the delicate latticework inside the lid and pocketing the device once again.

Sorry, yesterday was hectic in ways I hadn't expected.

God forbid stuff happen when it's convenient for me, am I right?

Anyway, refreshing the same three temp scrolls, buying another Greater TP at my dark archive discount, and dropping 10k on upgrading my headband to +6, adding the Stealth skill to it. 2746gp left because everything costs money, including some of my extracts last game.

Day jobs might not pay much but they pay for material components.

Zhu Li rolls up her sleeves and grabs her toolkit, going to work assisting Jordan and Eliza. "Let's make sure we get it right the first time then, Captain," she says, face stern. "I can't die until we pay Hestram back for this mess."

I'll sort my purchases after I get home and get some sleep.

Zhu Li is so mad right now her CON and STR might actually have gone up for a couple seconds there.

Craft Alchemy: 1d20 + 1d6 + 35 ⇒ (17) + (2) + 35 = 54

Zhu Li just glares at the puddle formerly known as Hestram in disgusted silence for a moment, before letting out a scream of incoherent rage and frustration.

"It helps us because there's more to that spell than what happened with Cale. If we don't turn his body into chunky salsa, all we have to do is regrow his skin and he comes back to it with no say in the matter." She turns to the creature holding Adril's consciousness. "In other words, Adril Hestram, you cannot run. You cannot hide, you cannot escape. We don't need to catch you, you're already caught."

The investigator turns to Verrish, speaking in Azlanti. "Verrish, adde me aperto. Ego persequimur habebat octo quamdiu huic nequam. Eo vel per corpus Dona cogi posse ut vehementi et non vis ut vehemens."

Zhu Li steps forward into the gap that Sahess and Jordan opened in the enemy formation, throwing what promised to be an exceptionally cathartic slap at Adril Hestram.

Zhu Li drinks an extract, pouring a second one into a newly formed pocket in her hand. "If he's not talking, how do we feel about a Cale special?" She asks, glaring at the nauseated traitor and passing Sahess a bottle. "They can't block you if they can't see you coming, drink this."

Kirin Studying Adril, then drinking Touch Injection to prep Skinsend and handing Sahess an extract of Invisibility. Sadly not greater, but one free thwack will do a world of good.

Zhu Li pulls put her scroll of Channel the Gift and reads it off, tapping Arnaut as she assumes Kirin Style.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1d6 + 12 ⇒ (6) + (1) + 12 = 19
UND DC25: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (9) + 25 = 34

"Damn you, Adril Hestram! Stop this! Let her go and come with us! We're the only reason you haven't been fed to the crowd!"

Zhu Li eyeballs the distance and angles with her hands, shaking her head. "Too far for a dimension door, but it would be faster." She pulls out a scroll and holds out a hand, unfurling the parchment in the other. "Everyone hold on tight, I only have one of these and then we have to bum a ride home through the Outer Planes if we want to get anywhere via magic."

But... boarding actions.

Edit: Well, it's not quite.like overtaking an airship with a triumphant grin on my face and getting to release my inner pirate, but I think I managed an appropriate level of drama.

Unless he's not on the ship, in which case I'm just gonna have to make my next scroll of greater teleport out of his hide.

"You can't fly that fast," Zhu Li says, vaulting the railing to take the ship's helm, taking a deep breath. "Alright, I know two of you are bards, improvise something. We're flying this bird!"

Zhu Li's eyes flicker over to the new foe. "Winter Witch!" She calls as a warning, studying her carefully as she pulls a scroll from her backpack, reading it off in a clear voice.

Zhu Li's mace clatters to the deck as she rushes the newly revealed Winter Witch, form blurring from Haste magic as she analyzes the witch carefully. "It's a Winter Witch!" She warns as she skids to a halt behind the woman.

Zhu Li drops into Kirin Style and draws a light mace from her scabbard, disregarding the fact that her sword cane shouldn't be able to hold it. Said mace glimmers with a necromantic light, green energy shining in a thin layer along the head.

Zhu Li runs across the battlefield, pivoting on one foot to hurl a coin at a weak spot in Skelg's armor with a bang. "Bare fordi du spurte pent."

Distracted for the moment, Zhu Li spares the bard a confused glance. "Do you even speak Skald?"

She's... talking, but very clearly ready for a fight. She's in third position (hilt at sternum, tip of blade at nose), which is the "lunge" position, but she's pretty far. Up to Skelg honestly.

Fair, but I'd use the Tengwar alphabet for Thassilonian, since Skald is explicitly a different alphabet from most Inner Sea languages, IIRC.

"Jag kommer att demontera dig." The Tian woman replied, eyes hard as she spared a glance for Hestram. "Jag kommer att förstöra dig med kirurgisk noggrannhet."

"Watch it, Air-infused Behir! Sahess, take this, you won't be able to cut yourself out of one of them if they swallow you. Arnaut, get out of there, NOW! Everyone, scatter!" Zhu Li pulls out a vial and offers it to the dragon disciple, repeating her command to scatter in Azlanti for Voss' benefit.

She faces the Ulfen man and holds up her blade, one hand out and behind her for balance as she adopts a modified duelist's stance to face him.

Zhu Li steps down hard, launching herself forward to the nauseated, battered giant, one arm lashing out in a lightning quick strike.

Her palm strike, compared to the giant's size, is like a needle... but a needle targeted at exactly the right spot is devastating, and Zhu Li is an expert at dissecting a foe for weaknesses.

All in favor of knocking the last giant out nonlethally out of spite?

"What's going on out there, Jordan?" Zhu Li asks. "What's got the crowd all riled up?"

Zhu Li picks out what she thinks is a weak point with her echolocation, flicking a coin at the giant with a crack like a gunshot as she studies it for weak points, sound waves playing gently over the creature's flesh before bouncing back to the investigator.

I'll try to post today but I feel like hot garbage so no promises.

Zhu Li downs her extract of Echolocation like it's a shot, silent as the grave as she fumes in Adril's direction, but for the rhythmic clicks of her magically altered biology. An effort of will on her part activates an extract she drank that morning, the rush of magic probably the closest she's ever come to actually casting a spell. It's not a very impressive spell, given that she uses it to mimic the extract that allows her to deliver other extracts via touch, but, still, when she walks over to Jordan and smacks him between the shoulder blades, the archer feels lighter than air. "There's your vantage point, get out of this damn smoke and rain hell!"

Zhu Li nods in agreement and lets Arnaut handle gathering information from Voss, too busy trying not to scream in frustration that they've been beaten to Akiton of all places, yet again.

Changing my temp scrolls around; I'm keeping Resto and Bless Weapon, but I'm swapping Dispel Magic, which Arnaut is infinitely better than me at, for Channel the Gift, which will continue to allow Arnaut to be better than me at dispelling or otherwise using magic.

"You can look through it if you like." But there's no information on what you find. Wow, Paizo. Good work.

Zhu Li shuts the chest after a brief time, resting her forehead against it with a sigh. "Cayden, how can someone with a secret double life be so boring? It's like all of that information just slips through my mind like water through a sieve, leaving almost nothing behind except the tiny fragments of usefulness that Eliza already said."

Several hours before, Zhu Li, having received a letter, walked away from the party, locked herself in her room, and began a tirade of swearing spanning four minutes, twenty-three languages, and an impressive array of positions that anyone able to understand might question the ability of anyone not a protean or ooze to assume.

After which, she emerged from her room, tucked her hair back into place, and went to go gather some supplies, muttering something about "Damn Zarta and her damn innuendo."

In present day, Zhu Li walks over to the chest, opening it. "Perhaps something in here could prove useful later. At the very least you'll not have to repeat it. Shouldn't take long." With that, she begins to read.

"Oh," she adds as an afterthought, "I'm bringing Snowfire with me. Where is a good place for my manservant to pick up some food for him, in case Akiton lacks suitable fare for a horse? I imagine we'll need quite a lot of it, in case anyone else wants to ride."

It still doesn't make sense though. If he's trying to weed out bad apples, he'd need the rest of the information even more than he already does; you can't decide if someone needs weeding out without actually knowing who they are and what they've done.

It's bizarre, because he's not stupid, and he's not impatient. This took years, and dozens of cultivated agents in all the right places. So what's making him move now?
