The earlier a session zero starts up the happier I'd be if you choose to have me again. Would be easy casual chat for over the summer

Thanks for running the game. Hope to see Vhaezil back again soon in a game. Thoroughly enjoyed that character. Looking forward to the next game, and whatever comes!

This is sort of going no where guys... can you shift out of wolf form and heal Zask so I can play or take an action to move the narrative forward a bit? We have been in one room for like 2 months.

You hear a low moan quite close to you, but realize it's just Zask. Being dragged.

Seems like the consensus was to leave the dungeon with the books? So barring any new things... hopefully the PCs can just walk out?

Noted, avoid Shilow Shepards. :)

The halfling mumbles nonsense as he continues to be dragged,

i won... be defeated by the likes of a dwarf-dog you fool....

Yeah you are right you can declare non lethal damage. I house rule at my games that a death save is made when you are knocked unconscious. So was just on auto pilot. I mean.. could a dire wolf knock someone unconscious anyway? heh.

Zask moans as he is dragged across the floor by the shaggy direwolf.

Sorry, let me explain a little bit.

I knew the conditions in which Zask would be freed from the compulsion. I attempted to (with little success) drop hints and hope for a non-confrontational resolution.

No body took the bites and resulted in him chucking himself into the hole and the struggle etc.

I role played the compulsion being stronger the second time around, and with Vhaezil actively attempting to get the shield off his back I figured Zask would respond (as he does with everything) with a bit of violence.

If nothing else it prompted everyone to post and react to him. (I am just role playing Zask, the halfling who has knows your characters for like no time at all).

I think this is is how i would have played it at a table as well.

Re: The Books. I saw the note, but Vhaezil wanted to delve deeper.. Zask is down for the challenge.

Male Halfling Monk 2 AC: 17; HP 12/15; Ki 1/2; Passive Perception: 13; Init +4; Str +3, Dex +4, Con +1, Int -1, Wis +3, Chr +0; Saves: Str+5, Dex+6. Lucky. Lifestyle: 1gp/d; Goodberry 0/4

Zask crumbles to the floor. Unconscious.

Death Save: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Male Halfling Monk 2 AC: 17; HP 12/15; Ki 1/2; Passive Perception: 13; Init +4; Str +3, Dex +4, Con +1, Int -1, Wis +3, Chr +0; Saves: Str+5, Dex+6. Lucky. Lifestyle: 1gp/d; Goodberry 0/4

Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Passively Zask mutters back to Vhaezil as he shakes off the will of the infernal flames,

"I dont believe words alone will break this desire Vhaezil."

Male Halfling Monk 2 AC: 17; HP 12/15; Ki 1/2; Passive Perception: 13; Init +4; Str +3, Dex +4, Con +1, Int -1, Wis +3, Chr +0; Saves: Str+5, Dex+6. Lucky. Lifestyle: 1gp/d; Goodberry 0/4

I suspect the mini library we have accumulated might have the answers hah. Just have to take a few weeks to read them

Male Halfling Monk 2 AC: 17; HP 12/15; Ki 1/2; Passive Perception: 13; Init +4; Str +3, Dex +4, Con +1, Int -1, Wis +3, Chr +0; Saves: Str+5, Dex+6. Lucky. Lifestyle: 1gp/d; Goodberry 0/4

Zask eyes Vhaezil blankly as he tries to remove the Shield from his back,

"You dare to remove me of the Bulwark of the Order Invincible? I will see it returned to the hands of those worthy!"

The monk strikes at Vhaezil's in the scramble,

Slap: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Dmg?: 1d4 ⇒ 4

He says to Lichen in a glassy voice,

"The desire is beyond your feeble restraints Shapeshifter, I cannot deny the embrace of the void."

Zask kicks backward as Lichen tries to restrain him,
1 ki used for an extra attack

Kick: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Dmg?: 1d4 ⇒ 2

GMF:
Zask isnt trying to hurt them but still feels the compulsion strong enough to strike out. If the bonus needs to be added to the damage do so, but just trying to do a unarmed attack... minus the monkishness..

Zask continues to struggle to get to the pit and throw himself in,

Hey guys, it's been 5 days without any action. I know Vhaezil has been quite busy with work but is there just no interest in the dungeon or the game? Really has seemed like when it isn't Vhaezil or myself posting that it comes to a stand still.

I think it would be fair to the GM if you aren't interested in playing to let him know so we can inject some life.

As the rush of emptiness surrounds the Halfling the dread of what happened reveals itself to him. Moments before he can even begin to process whats to come he is wrenched backward by the surprising strength of the scribe. Once pulled back to safety he eyes Vhaezil with clarity,

"Thank you... I just couldn't resist the urge."

His eyes glaze over once again and Zask attempts to break free of the grip that Vhaezil has on the shield strapped to his back,

Let go of me!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Perhaps the surge of adrenaline wearing off or a subconscious effort made against the will of the magic of this place has sapped him of his effort.

Zask continues to struggle to make it to the edge of the pit, to once again throw himself into the void.

I am pleased that Vhaezil was only interested in the shield :)

Well i think the nature of this dungeon / adventure is meant to be very dangerous. When i had the conversation with GMF the failed save meant that Zask had an uncontrollable urge to jump into the pit. That he wouldnt be able to resist himself. So I posted hoping to see if someone would interact with him. With no one showing any concern or doing anything really i guess i just felt the next logical step was to act and just play the game.

The pace has been very slow in the dungeon, so I wanted to push the narrative forward.

I'm not opposed to retroactively having someone save Zask.. ie, if someone wanted to try and make a reflex save / athletics check or something to try and grab him as he falls, that could be okay, but alternatively i am very happy with him dying and just rolling up something new and fun.

I think in the end I just wanted us to move forward, get out of this dungeon and progress. Perhaps the death of a friend would do that for the group, not sure.

I am very much looking forward to how you lot get out this death trap though.. dont dissapoint! :) Zask 2.0 is in the works, dont worry.

Zask looks back at his friends, clearly engrossed in Vhaezhil's interest in the book. Muttering under his breath, but loud enough to hear.

"In the end it might not have been my own curiosity that was my downfall."

Knowing what is coming but unable to resist the temptation Zask steps over the threshold, plunging himself into the void.

As Zask moves through into the room the faint glow halts his progress,

"This seems like the realm of the learned Vhaezil. What can you make of this?"

The halfling picks up a small rock and throws it into the opening.

"My pops used to say that there was no better direction than north. So let us see if he was right."

Zask will head along the northern pathway, follow it to it's end then turn north. He will do his best to search for any pressure plates / trip wires along the way, poking with his quarterstaff as he moves along.

Investigate: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

"Always ready for a bit of foolishness Dolg. Someone should grab those golden goblets, unless their evils are better off left here."

Zask makes his way through the hidden passage. Searching for any valuables or further hidden things in the new room.

Investigation: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

If there is nothing new or no new passages Zask will head back out and head down the other unexplored hallway. Unless his comrades object.

Zask finally manages to shake off the rigidity in his muscles. He moves into the room that the blob blocked and stands in front of the golden goblets.

"Fancy looking book here Vhaezil. Seems the very earth itself is breathing too. Dolgrin what do the dwarves know of it?

The monk will keep his hands off anything... for the time being...

Yea that damage was absurd, made me laugh when i saw the numbers. Paralyzed --- what removes the condition? Zask failed a save so is he just paralyzed for x turns or free with a save?

Zask would like to attempt to recall the notes we found scrawled down earlier and play them on his Shawm

Remember? (Wis): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Zask taps his feet and quarterstaff impatiently.

"Well? Doesn't seem words are working.. Vhaezil, unless you got any other ideas I think that thing stands between us and vast knowledge.

"I'm ready to clear the path to your intellectual gain. Just give the word."

Zask stumbles back briefly at the sight of the grossly malformed figure. Regaining composure he steps into the hallway,

"Vhaezhil... any of your texts tell us what stands before us?"

Gripping his quarterstaff he waits for either the action of the beast, or instruction from his friends.

HD: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

If there are no random encounters during this time...

Zask stretches after their shortened rest and beckons the party,

"Time to continue..."

Zask scrawled a rough MAP of what he can remember of their exploration..

Moving to the North Door Zask does his best to check for any traps,

And then passes through to the North...

Zask gasps at the revelation the eye glasses provide,

"Dolgrin these may have a valuable use for you. They appear to allow me to understand the writing on these texts."

After glancing at the texts Zask hands the eye glasses to Dolgrin,

"May they reveal the answers you seek.."

He settles into a meditative pose while Dolgrin posts up.

Monks only need a short rest. Zask is not entirely keen on lingering. So a short rest makes more sense logically to the situation for him.. but I'm not bothered either way. Zask will take second watch.

I'm getting the feeling this is a deep and dangerous place.. at what point do we call it quits? Zask is probably eternally going to continue exploring until he either dies or you guys convince him otherwise. If we stretch the risk maybe we get some bigger rewards? Should we attempt a rest or haul some of this library out?

A small sigh of relief escapes Zask as the door opens to be only books.

He picks up the glasses delicately and places them on his face,

"Vhaezil, do my eyes now look near to yours?"

Zask scans the room with the glasses on and takes a look at the cover of a book.

Zask will do his best to look for any obvious trip wires or loose stones along the pathway. Hoping to spot any traps before setting them off.

As Zask arrives at the Stone Door he will await his companions before heading in.

Zask nods to Dolgrin. The exhaustion of multiple near death experiences evident.

"I agreed to assist you in this. The knowledge of your ancestors could be here yet."

The battered halfling makes his way to the ornate door checks his teeth and slams one out of his own mouth with a short blunt strike.

not sure if they are connected.. I'd have to go back to mentally map the area but the corpse did ask if the other sleepers were awoken. We may have more baddies lying in wait. I think that going back to the gear and continuing to explore from there is most rational.
