Firstly, as others have said. Roleplaying is up to the people involved in the game. If there is no roleplaying at your table that is a problem (or not) with your group not the rules.

Secondly, rules for crafting is not roleplaying! Or maybe it is for you... •sigh• Then the discussion has no common ground at all.

Does your character has friends? Enemies? Does she like a specific city over others? Does she have an opinion on the elves in the nearby forest?

Roleplaying is having characters with personality. Usually represented by banter between party members, or by attitudes toward situations or NPCs. Taking decisions based on the PCs personality and not necessarily on what is the best tactical move at the moment. Ideally these decisions should be expressed in character, you know, roleplaying.

One of the great advances in making roleplay part of the game are the Skill Challenges for social situations. I'm not going to explain it, it's in the DMG, go read it. It's an excellent way to have roleplay be part of the official game flow and includes ALL party members. No longer a single PC is the voice of the party. Everyone has the responsibility to carry their weight in social encounters, just like they do in combat encounters.

I don't get people that say 4e is less conducive to roleplay. I've seen nudges to roleplay and to inject your own flavor all over the PHB and DMG. Even spells invite you to come up with your own personalized descriptions for them.
I have skimmed through this thread and maybe I missed it, but in general I wonder how many people have actually read the books!

The answer: never, unless animals can perform a heal check on themselves. Can they?

If the answer is no, the party could have run away and in 1 hour the dinosaur would have received 5x10x60 = 3,000 dmg! Of course he'd have been dead long before that but you get the idea.

Another point that got raised during the same encounter is if you could use several talents at the same time: Bleeding Attack + Crippling Strike. What about Crippling Strike + Dispelling Attack?

I've always been fine with 4e. I was awaiting its release and was going to switch as soon as Paizo published a module.

When PRPG was announced all discussion of switching or not switching to 4e was moot for me. I play Paizo adventures. I trust, by experience, I'm going to have fun playing them.
The point being, like me, many will follow the adventure but if there is Paizo magic for 4e then we'll most likely go 4e. And I'd wager that wouldn't be good for Pathfinder Chronicles and PRPG bottom line. Unless I'm crazy and I belong to a disproportionate minority.

The problem here is that not many people know Paizo and Necromancer are two separate companies. Saying "Adventure Path" and "Paizo" in the same sentence will sell stuff; people of my disposition, but with less information on the relationship between companies, are not going to go PRPG because they'll play the new "4e AP from Paizo"... You get to choose which level your PC starts in from 1st to 4th.

1st is better storywise, the PC gets to grow and trust the group for survival and is more likely to reciprocate when she is able. But, she won't do much in combat those 1st levels. The game is not all combat though.

I think I'm going with your suggestion of 2 action points. I'm going to use the same cost for save or die effects.

To the OP, action points are the way to go if you see you are killing your PCs too often. We started Age of Worms without them, after killing 7 PCs (one a TPK), I decided to give it a try.
I'm starting Savage Tide this Friday with a different group and I'm definitely using them.

Then again, I'm a no holds barred DM. I read monsters Int and Wis scores and try to interpret them as it may apply to the creature. Sometimes it means they know common attack patterns like flanking, tripping, etc. or tactics, and use them or avoid them. The lower the scores the more "just a collection of hp with automatic attacks" they become.

My point is that Greyhawk is very distinct from the Forgotten Realms. You can't be playing in Greyhawk for months and forget you are, or think that maybe you are in the Forgotten Realms. Even your version is distinct. Maybe your point was that one can make their Greyhawk pretty much like the Realms?

The only point I'd like touch directly about your post is about Gord and the traveling salesman:

I too do anything for plot, the world doesn't constrain me, it is MY Greyhawk. As long as I can keep the suspension of disbelief, I let my creativity run free. Heck, I've destroyed part of the Gnarley forest and Welkwood with a meteorite before, sue me! I've presented magic merchants before too, I prefer lone collectors to shops with big front ads.

In (I guess my) Greyhawk if I were to tell my players that their PCs are walking down the street on a small town and they see a magic shop, they'll immediately become wary, maybe thinking it's an illusion, or a trap, or something.

If we were in the Forgotten Realms they'd sell, buy, and complain that the town sucks all in one breadth.

Bringing this back to topic: Varisia.
Everything I've read, and responses from Erik on Tuesday's chat, all confirm that it will follow the "Greyhawk method of evolution". That is, it will be adventure driven, with the world being detailed as much as the adventure needs. This approach is perfect for incorporating Varisia into my Oerth.
Samuel Weiss wrote:...Several interesting questions and remarks...

You can trace some family names for countless generations. The world itself is a blanket of good, and whenever evil rears its head it's quickly smashed down and goodness returns to the realms.

Greyhawk is sort of a medieval/dark ages period, a Vancian world, a civilization in decadence. Very few books, there are no libraries (with notable exceptions); it's not like you can go to any town and look for the library (or the magic shop for Boccob's sake!). The (current) kingdoms are "new", history (at least what people remember) goes back 600 years for some detail, and maybe 1000 years with very few details. There has been other kingdoms/inhabitants in the area in the past, but nobody knows what happened (besides the latest migration of course), and those who know don't tell, and more to the point (being a decadent civilization) regular people don't care. There are equal quantities of good and evil in the world, the world is not good, nor is it evil, it is dangerous. Evil can rear its head whenever and wherever it pleases and so can good.

I find that adventurers (who are supposed to be good, or with good tendencies, at least in my game) shine the brightest amidst the grayness of Greyhawk. Forgotten Realms is too shiny already.

For everybody: If you can play any of last years A1 games ($50 games) you're good.

Make no mistake, this is real tabletop gaming. And for the record, me and my other group (Sundays) have been playing with it for months, not all features are finished but we can play comfortably.

No voice communication—We tried that and the moment I amped up the roleplay it sucked. People were speaking on top of each other (no one likes to be interrupted) and without body language there is no way to see it coming, because of this players (as opposed to characters) started fighting. Writing has been a lot more conductive to roleplay.

PS. For those of you asking themselves why not use one of the other online tabletops, the answer is: because they sucked in one way or another, paid and free, I tried them all. The table for cohorts and followers gives you the starting level for the cohort, but they can raise in levels up to the PC's level -1. The charisma score or, more appropriately, the leadership score has no bearing on this.
Paizo, don't get distracted with "online content", concentrate on "content" period. If someone uses it online, like me, that's our problem. I'd be really bummed if quality wanes because of resources being reallocated to a "digital initiative"; or worst yet, if content is sliced of awesomeness because it wouldn't be playable in digital gaming.

Tabletop RPG, that's what I'm onboard with. I'll do the necessary conversions myself, thank you very much.

Adventures because that's what I'm getting Pathfinder for!

New World, mainly because I'm very curious as to how hard will it be to convert to my world, or even if I can make it another continent in my world without upsetting the existing milieu.

Production Values, simply because that's what I expect from Paizo. This isn't Bob writing a campaign setting in the basement when he has time between his "real" job and the family. These are professionals, and I expect that in the writing style and presentation.

I have no doubt about points 1 and 3, those are non-issues really—I know their work, they have my money—; but I'm crossing my fingers for 2.
My vote is for Adventures, New World, and Production Values.

Seeing that anything like that is off the cards for good now.

A while ago I was going to use Necropolis (by Gary Gygax) to start a campaign in Erypt, and even though that group never got together I know where to look if I want to start something there.

At 1st I was at a loss as to what to do with the Pathfinder world (does it have a name?). I'm sure the adventures will be awesome, it is not about that. It's about me liking MY Greyhawk (so full of history created by years of gaming) and the Pathfinder adventures not fitting snuggly with it. But if the Pathfinder world is not too wacky• I can place it somewhere on Oerth. That would be neat indeed.

• Wacky would be:
- Technology level too high, mainly regarding long range travel.
- Weird cosmology (if it's important to the setting) clashing Greyhawk (or default if you will) cosmology.

Anything that would have a global impact I guess. As long as the setting is contained within its region, which could be huge, all is fine.

On the other hand, gods are fine. My Greyhawk is full ancient and unknown gods, there is no one true pantheon. Inhabitants have no idea how many gods there really are, or what are they really.

Anyway I'm rambling now, I'll stop.
I was thinking (if one can call it that at 6:30am); maybe I can use this new setting to fill out another region on Oerth! Seeing that anything like that is off the cards for good now.

And in my game this was discussed with Eligos before getting in contact with Celeste. Actually getting in contact with Celeste was a way for them not to have to go to Raknian's mansion, knock down his door, and making him new body cavities.

Raknian is a well known and liked member of society. He is well connected to the wealthy (he is very wealthy himself) and influential members of the city. He is the link between them and the rock stars (gladiators). Having a band of gladiators go crazy and suddenly attacking him in front of the nobles plus 18 thousand people sounds like suicide to me.

My group just finished their 1st round, and what really worries me is them trying to infiltrate his mansion and wanting to off him there. There is no map of the mansion but there is a passage leading to it, and it sounds to me like a perfectly valid plan.

Depending on how much time I can spare between now and our next game, I will either whip up a mansion and populate it; or, I'll plug the passage with a secret door. They haven't thought much about the ventilation passage at the infirmary/kitchen so I'm safe there.
I don't know about strategic advice, but this is my take on the situation.
