I used to run 3rd Edition and Pathfinder Core and greatly prefer the Beginner's Box and have added more stuff as and when needed. I have ported over 4th Edition's skill set and per encounter/day idea. I also love 5th Edition's advantage/disadvantage die mechanic and use it for Combat Maneuvers (as does WHFRP 1st Ed!). Ed o'War has an excellent blog and his extra class conversions are worth a look. I use the extra core classes in my campaign. Below is a link:-

I like my fiction to swing with a bit more zing. The Discworld novels have a hugely variable quality control and anything thicker than an inch with trilogy written on it doesn't get a look in. Mary Gentle likes to make her books hard work doesn't she? I don't care how much historical research you've done, just get on with the story. Won't touch any Warhammer novels, or any other licensed properties. To be honest I don't read much new fantasy anymore because I'm just too tired of all the lazy cliches. Mary Gentle likes to make her books hard work doesn't she? I don't care how much historical research you've done, just get on with the story. Won't touch any Warhammer novels, or any other licensed properties. There is a club up here but apart from Warhammer 40K the only two games going is a Kingmaker campaign closed off to new players and game of 3rd edition pumped up with so many splat books and undisclosed house rules that doing anything is a chore. Last two sessions (5 hrs each) involved bumping into random groups of wandering monsters which the sorcerers blasted within a couple of rounds. 10 hrs, 4 CR 8 combat encounters. No npc's, no settlements, no xp or treasure. When my rogue took damage the druid (only divine caster in the party because the DM has disallowed clerics, and wizards too for that matter. He has also stated that he frowns upon any melee combat leaving my rogue and the fighter sitting around twiddling our thumbs while the spell casters sit back blasting opponents with spells, every combat was on a featureless flat plain by the way, yawn) refused to cure him, the party also did not allow him to use any of the three wands of healing they possessed. I have just joined by the way, and after two sessions of this nonsense have just left again. If gaming clubs are going to carry on running and attract new members it would be nice if newcomers weren't treated as either cannon fodder or an inconvenience. Boo. So if there are any RPG groups in East Anglia that are into swords and sorcery, high adventure and wild romance then let me know because that last bunch of rules bashing was soul draining to say the least.
I'm up here in King's Lynn and finding gaming groups is a real pain. Nice to see Death Race 2000 has so many fans. If you like Arnold Schwarzenegger try out Hercules in New York (title tells you all you need to know) or even better The Villain, A comedy western with Kirk Douglas and Ann-Margret. Big Laughs ahoy! The Stuff is great, Mazes and Monsters is dire. Shame on you Tom Hanks. Any of you seen Super yet? In fact anything with Bruce Campbell is a sure-fire hit in my house. I've seen The Killer Shrews, it's fab! Anything with swarms of or giant mutant animals is always a winner, see Them, Empire of the Ants (starring Joan Collins!), The Swarm (Micheal Caine I think) and a host of others. Micheal Caine was also in The Hand, another winner if you're in the mood for something dumb. Jaws 3D too, what the hell was he doing in the 70's? Destroy All Monsters is my fav of the godzilla movies although vs King Kong gives it a good run for it's money. Nice to see another fan of The Adventures of Buckeroo Banzai in the Eighth Dimension. Cool World is a fantastic film if you get the chance, as is Crimewave (Directed by Sam Raimi), great films that manage to capture the energy of a Warner Bros cartoon in full length movie. Why has no-one mentioned Death Race 2000 (starring Sylvester Stallone!) yet? Or Rollerball (70's version) for that matter? Big mention to the original Planet of the Apes series of films (all 5 of 'em) if you fancy an all-nighter. In fact there's so many great SF films from the early 70's it's ridiculous. No budget but big ideas. A Boy and His Dog, there's another one for you. Blah blah blah...
Bubba Ho Tep kicks mighty ass, Elvis and JFK versus a Mummy in an old people's home. Sredni, being an animal, is neutral and coundn't care less about either Conraddin or Mrs De Ropp and is a vehicle for Saki to express his antipathy for the manners and social graces of the time. Eg if you roll 6,5,4,3,2,1,4 and you wanted 18 Str you could add the 6 and 4 to your Str 8. Then add the 5,3,2 and 1 rolls to the other stats. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I think an overall Stat bonus of +6 should get you through most situations just fine. I like my heroes to have flaws, it just makes the game more interesting and forces players to act as a team.
I really like the method that starts all stats at 8.You then roll 7d6 and assign the dice to which stat you like, using the whole of the sum of each individual die.
