Eldritch Role Playing Game, by Dan Cross and Randall Petras is a solid system with some interesting dice mechanics. The main rulebook is pretty good, and adding in your own material isn't too hard either. I helped play test an adventure for this system, the expanded A Knight's Rest module, and really enjoyed the experience. I'll be using this system in the future.

D6xD6 is a more universal system, but can easily accommodate a fantasy setting. The core rules are fairly easy to grasp, and each setting adds its own flavor. I recently helped playtest a setting for this system, and found that it runs pretty smoothly. Not my favorite, but a solid contender, and you only need 2d6 and a notecard.

Swords and Wizardry White Box isn't new, but I love it!

The Hero's Journey by Barrel Rider Games looks pretty solid, although I haven't played it yet.

I've been going through something similar in that the idea of GMing Pathfinder games and creating my own adventures seems more like a chore than a joy. Maybe this won't work for you, it sounds like your group are pretty stubborn on this count, but perhaps they might be willing to return to 2nd ed AD&D?

I really like the setting of Pathfinder, and making a character for the game can be a lot of fun. However, I sometimes feel that the system tries too hard to give us an answer for 'everything' as a port of the rules. This can lead to spending more time double-checking the 'rules' then working on story ideas, or even throwing out story ideas because they don't match the rules. This has been an issue for me because I feel like the massive sprawling rules of Pathfinder are sometimes actually constricting my creativity, and thus my joy for gaming. Sadly, my group are very much a hard core bunch of RAW types. Thankfully, I'm not DMing at the moment and taking the break to come up with something different and new for my next campaign.

Recently I have been taking another look at the older game systems. It was then that I started to get the passion back. I'm actually looking into the Microlite20 system because it is based on the concepts of d20 but leaves plenty of room for a player and DM to modify the system with what they feel that they want or need while still keeping to the philosophy of as few rules as possible.

With simply switching THAC0 to the ascending AC system 2nd ed starts to feel more comfortable, and that opens up a lot of opportunities to return to the 'feel' of the game that you enjoyed so much. It sounds like it was the actual act of discovery and creating that inspired you and your players. Perhaps a less detailed rule system, or one that your players haven't memorized, will bring back those feelings?

Beyond that, would it be possible to consider starting a new game world? Something that is different from what you made before and filled with other challenges and adventures? Maybe something happens and your player's characters are transported to this new place and now must find a way to survive, and explore this new place, from the perspective of complete newcomers.
Hey Dude, that is a tough patch to go though. I remember reading it a few years ago and thinking that it was just amazing even though it is a tough sell for a d20 oriented group. Did anyone actually get to play a game of it? I've been thinking about hunting the books down again but wanted to hear some feedback from those who actually played the system before paying huge sums of money for the out of print books.

On a side note, I've come across Blade of the Iron Throne. This is a game that seems to be a spiritual successor to the concepts behind Riddle of Steel. Anybody had a chance to play the Beta? It would be a lot easier and cheaper to invest in their kickstarter than to hunt down the old books if the system lives up to its potential.

Setting the glass aside he points towards the card Munin deposited upon the table. "The Crow is ready to do his part in this.” His eyes turn towards the departing barbarian, "Leave now if you must. I would rather make a plan and seek more information. We'll only get one shot at this. Best get it right."
Rolan smirks at Alynbrand's words, "Well then, I guess we shall have to find you an underling to wring out like a dishrag. Tell you what. You hold him and I'll make him wish he was dead."
The entrance of their hostess stops any further conversation and Rolan watches her from the chair as he sips his wine.
Taking his gaze away from the big brute his eyes are drawn to the newcomer. For a moment he is quiet as his pupils dilate from the shock of her appearance. Closing his eyes he shakes his head for a moment and then lets out a harsh chuckle as her statements register on his mind. "Be assured woman. There was no ruffian in your room last night. It is painfully obvious that these cards were distributed by magical means. I myself can think of several spells capable of accomplishing such a feat quite easily. The only question is who sent them and how did they gain a connection to us strong enough to allow for such an effect. You didn't lose something important to you recently did you? Something shiny perhaps?" His lips move into a smirk as he imagines such an obviously wealthy woman mooning over some lost trinket.

Since the others seem intent upon talking about their connections to Lamm Rolan draws forth his card, only to have Munin pluck it from his fingers and fly over to the table. The raven places the crow card face up on the table and then looks around quickly before speaking in Ulfen, "Crow for death. Crow for Death. Lamm! Lamm shall die." Rolan's face is slightly surprised as he waves his hand at the raven. "Hush Munin." he growls as the raven flies back to Rolan's shoulder and gives him a light peck on the ear. Rolan winces at the slight pain. "Yes Lamm shall die. I have something special saved up for him. He shall be squashed like the insect he is."
Rolan attempts to maintain some dignity while moving away from the ever-approaching barbarian and his dragon breath. Taking a step back he grimaces. "Kindly take yourself to the other side of the room boy." He says as he tries to keep a hold of his dinner. Rolan's other hand reaches up and draws back the hood of his robe. His raven black hair is long and disheveled looking, and in need of a good barber. His face, sporting the stubble of several days of growth, is hard and sharp looking. His dark brown robe flows about him slightly as he moves away from the offending smell and the light picks out strange runes along the cuffs and hem.

Reaching a safer distance he lowers his hand from his face and looks sharply from one person to the next with eyes full of suspicion. "I don't recognize any of you." His mind quickly goes through the possibilities. A barbaric youth. Probably hasn't been out of his cups in weeks by the smell. He is incapable of sending the message. Here, a man with a rapier? Elegant weapon, but still used for the application of violent force. A holy symbol? He is either a very religious want-to-be duelist or a cleric of some kind. There is a possibility there. Rolan frowns as he thinks and his eyes move on. Another fighting man. Probably a thick skull to compliment that big sword and chained weapon he carries. At least he's not drunk. And an Elf? No, Half Elf perhaps. Hard to tell, but he's wearing a fancy blade. Better keep an eye on him.

Roland’s left hand, which has slowly returned to his rune pouch, emerges and he feels the familiar shape of several rune tiles in his palm as he waits. It seems like the sender is not yet here. He is beginning to suspect that the sender isn’t involved with his school at all. They are normally pickier about company.

His eyes take in the structure that the card has brought him to and a furrow appears upon his brow. He had been unable to learn anything about the person who dwelled within the building. Still, he had no memory of any of his old companions residing in this area. That means that either someone is being even more sneaky than he thought, or a new player has entered the game. Rolan fights down a wave of frustration and disappointment. He was really hoping to find an old colleague here, maybe even Professor Ulfred.

The dark haired wizard almost turns back, but his hand slides into his pocket and brushes the card hidden there. Squaring his shoulders he takes a deep breath and marches towards the door. Of couse this mixes with the wet smell of the fishmonger bringing the day's find back to his shop after a quick trip to the harbor district. His a growl of frustration he heaves himself off of his cot and lands on his feet.

His ill temper is caused by yet another night spent in feverish dreams of that darn Lamm fellow. Taking the form of both bogey man and the target of his rage in equal parts the unknown form of the man seemed to change and fluctuate as Rolan's subconcious attempted to put a face to the name of the man he knows is responcible for Rolan's fall from grace. His fists clench once more as he forces himself to stand and walk over to his spell book. Maybe he doesn't have the full honors of a graduate, but he still knows how to do a thing or two. Rolan sits at his desk and opens his spell book to the well thumbed page detailing Read Magic. The spell was almost a meditation now and... hold on?

Rolan's right hand reaches out and picks up the Harrow card nestled close to the spide of his book on that same page. The crow stares back at him from the surface of the card and the wizard finds a sardonic laugh escaping his lips. So, someone has been in his room? Or perhaps a spell has been cast to place that card in his book. Turning the card over he reads the text while another hand reaches out the stroke the feathers of Munin. The raven looks at the card too with one eye and then speaks a few words in Rolan's father's tongue. "Don't like it! Don't like it! Where come from?"

"Relax my friend." Rolan replies as his mind picks over the possibilities. "If this was sent by an enemy we would already be kneed deep in trouble. No a friend sent this. The only question is who. Not too many people know me well enough to send this by a spell. Perhaps one of my friends from school has found something out." Setting the card down he shakes his head. "Either way, I might as well get some work done for the shop. isolde will have my head if I don't have those tinder twigs ready to go for that order."

Taking some time to memorise the spells that he might need, and doing his best to ignore the slowly building sense of excitment in his stomach, Roland goes about his usual activities, and makes sure to avoide his father. He didn't want to deal with yet another lecture about morality and duty. Lamm stole his future.
I am looking into Mouse Guard as a possible RPG to play with older children ages 10 to 15 at a school where I work. I am inspired to do this because of my own love for the Redwall books and because I have read in a review that Mouse Guard really encourages teamwork and cooperation. However, I have a few questions about how the game plays.

1, Just how simple are the rules? Does a person need to read the whole book before playing or could I explain it to the child as play progresses?

2, How important is a table top map to the game? Could it be played without a grid map and miniatures? The children have visual impairments so this may be something of a hindrance if precise movement of figures is required.

3, What dice are used? I heard that it was only d6's.

4, Is it possible to create adventures that mimic the Redwall books style or is the style very different? Is there magic?

5, Just how pronounced is the teamwork in the game? The more the better. I'd like a game where combat is not the focus. instead I want problem solving and critical thinking skills. That will help me sell the idea to parents and my supervisor.

If someone could help me out with these questions that would be great. I noticed that the book itself is on back order on Paizo. It is still being published right?

As a side note, how would the game work in a PBP format?
Greetings,

I know that his depression is strong right now, but my intention is that when he sees Lamm pay he will even out, perhaps he even discovers how empty revenge is. His connection to the city herself is fairly strong, he has never left it before, but his connection to his family is stronger. If you want more details about family members let me know.

On a side note, I understand the desire to run two groups. However, in my experience it can be rather difficult if both groups go in different directions. The main danger is keeping everything straight and not confusing the different plots and sub-plots. Still, if you want to give it a shot feel free. Another option is just keeping a waiting list along with the understanding that if a person doesn’t post then they will be replaced with someone from the waiting list.

However, enough negative thinking. I am really excited about this campaign. I was sad when it ended last time. Hopefully this ulfen character will be better received than the last one. There is such a great gathering of characters here. It will be interesting to see how the groups turn out. Again, if you need any other information just let me know.
Wow, a wonderful group of characters indeed. I am sorry that the dude can't make it. Then again life comes first.
I am sorry to say that upon returning from my Christmas vacation I discovered that the book had been left on the front porch during a rainstorm. I guess the person I had watching out for it was late in picking it up. Either way the book is soaked and has wrinkled and crinkled to the point of being slightly discolored and nearly falling apart. I would be happy to send the book back to you as proof. Is there a chance of getting a fresh copy please?

Also, on a different note, I have recently encountered an English company called Spartan Games that creates a game called Firestorm Armada, among other great games. Firestorm Armada is a very interesting looking game that I would love to be involved in. I have noticed that other American web stores carry Spartan Games' products, but I hesitate to purchase from a company I haven’t used before. Is there a chance that Paizo could carry Firestorm Armada?

I have been looking for a way to get back into the groove of PbP and this sounds like an excellent game to play. I do own the modules, but have not read them. My character idea is fairly simple, but with a lot of room for growth as the campaign goes on. Here is a basic run down of the character and the concept behind him.

Concept: “I put no stock in religion. By the word Religion I have seen atrocities from every faith be called the will of the Gods. Holiness is in Right Action, courage on behalf of the weak, and in goodness. What the Gods desire is in your heart and in your head, and by what you do every day you will be a good man…or you will not.”

Description: Brother John is a simple looking man in brown robes. Under his robes, however, can be seen the outline of armor. A simple sturdy sword hangs from his hip and a large kite shield is slung over his back. The symbol shown upon his shield and stitched upon the breast of his cloak is not recognizable as belonging to any of the known gods of this world. It is a white cross upon a brown field. There is little else of note about Brother John, save for his eyes. They are a deep blue and seem to be able to look into a person’s very soul. There is no judgment in his gaze, however, only a sense of acceptance and peace.

Character: Brother John is a Human Cleric of Healing and Good. He is not aligned with a single god for he feels that none of them carry the whole truth to the people. Instead he prays to many of them and seeks to combine their wisdom into one set of teachings that can help everyone. He is a man of peace, but is not unused to the arts of war having been a soldier before taking up the cloth. Because of this he tends to have a practical outlook on things.

Me, I can post Sunday through Thursday once a day. I may be able to post on the weekends, but it is not certain.
Greetings,
I have been looking for a way to get back into the groove of PbP and this sounds like an excellent game to play.
Holiness is in Right Action,...Wiglaf2010-12-14T22:07:57ZRe: Forums: Off-Topic Discussions: Thank you Paizo !!!Wiglafhttps://paizo.com/threads/rzs2jhuv&page=2?Thank-you-Paizo#762009-11-18T04:42:40Z2009-04-08T07:09:23Z
So say we all.
So say we all.Wiglaf2009-04-08T07:09:23ZRe: Forums: Pathfinder Society Scenario Submissions: Open Call: Pathfinder Society Scenarios 17 & 18Wiglafhttps://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ivf5&page=4?Open-Call-Pathfinder-Society-Scenarios-17-18#1912009-01-22T01:53:51Z2008-11-04T01:48:15Z
Thank you for the feedback Mr. Frost. Second Darkness looks pretty fun too, but I'll have to reserve judgement until I've read more of the series once they come out.

Skinsaw Murders starts out aimed at 4th level, and Hook Mountain starts out aimed at 7th. You might want to do an abbreviated version of Burn Offerings and Skinsaw to bring the players up to 7th and then go from there.
Rise of the Runelords is the best in my opinion. Other great ideas can be drawn from the movie Master and Commander.

Other than that, and what was mentioned above, a lot depends on what kinds of ships your campaign is using. If using 17th century style Man'0'War vessels then pouring on more canvas is a good tactic. If it is closer to 14th or 15th century technology then try tacking into the wind with your lanteen sails and moving at an angle which denies that same wind to your enemies if they try to pursue. If going even earlier to oar powered vessels or cogs then double or triple up the oars, running them out if you don't have them out already, to gain speed while looking for a reef that you can hide behind.

The main thing is to have charts. Good charts will help you find hidden rocks or reefs that you can navigate through safely, while chances are that the enemy will lose the bottom of their ships unless their charts, and navigators, are at least as good as yours.
Create fog and then change course. His huge frame, at least seven feet in height with massively muscled shoulders arms chest and legs, doesn't even fit in the frame of the mirrored sign outside of the southern entrance to the town. Leaning forward towards it he sweeps the hood of his thick woolen forest green cloak back with his gauntleted left hand and runs his fingers through his dark brown hair. His long hair, held in a loose pony-tail by a leather ring, frames a face that none would call handsome, but which fails to be truly ugly either. A thick brow shades deep blue eyes that seem to shine with the gentleness contained within. His mouth, hiding oddly pointed teeth, turns into a slight frown as he mouths out the words slowly. "Welcome to Sandpoint. Take a moment to see yourself as we see you."

Looking down at himself, with the thick metal scales of his armor shinning slightly in the light just like the brass hilt of the massive bastard sword sheathed at his left him Gerod nods. His big meaty hands shake the dust from his cloak, and try to tighten up the pony tail for a moment. Nodding to himself he reaches under his scale hauberk for the parchment that is there. Looking the envelope over he nods as he tries to read the address printed upon it in his 'father's' steady hand. All he really understand is the name, "Ven Vinder." A smile crosses his lips at the thought. It has been many years since he has seen his father's old friend. Despite everything that has happened recently he couldn't help but feel excited at the idea of at least visiting 'nuncle' Ven and his family. Tucking his father's letter back beneath his hauberk he smiles his sharp toothed smile and walks into the town.

Gerod walks slowly through the streets of Sandpoint, trying to offer a smile to those whom he passes. Then, when he is passing the front of a place called the White Deer he notices two figures standing around looking for something on the ground. A worried expression crosses his face and he quickly looks at his boots to be sure he hasn’t stepped on anything important. Then he looks up and offers them a toothy smile. “Um, looking for something sirs?” His voice is very deep, and seems to come from somewhere within his cavernous chest with just a hint of gravel.

Also, I have an idea about how to connect Gerod to Sandpoint in a more solid manner. My thought is that Ven and James grew up together in Magnimar, probably lived on the same block, and were best friends for a long time. After Ven moved to Sandpoint with his family the two kept in touch via letters and the occasional family visit, perhaps Gerod has even been to Sandpoint before during a previous Swallowtail Festival.

Now, Gerod's father has reached out to his old friend for help. He asked permission in an earlier letter to send Gerod to Sandpoint to perhaps stay with the VInders until Gerod gets his feet under him, and to also have a trusted local who might vouch for him when he talks to the Sheriff.
This is a character of mine that I made for a game that never got started. I've converted him to the Pathfinder system and would like to try and play him here on the boards. I would prefer to play the Rise of the Runelords, or at least Burn Offerings, with this character.

A note, he is a Half Ogre, which is normally a +2 LA, but it is my feeling that the bonuses granted by this template, coupled with its downfalls and the role playing challenges presented by it, serve to make it a +1 at best. I have never found this kind of a character to be overpowered, rather it appears to be underpowered when compared to a lot of other +2 LA races. Still, I would happily agree to needing to 'buy off' the level adjustment before gaining any further levels if that is what a GM would prefer.

I just want to play this character because it is a concept that I have loved ever since my 2nd ed days, yet it is very difficult to find people willing to allow such a character.

I am a role play heavy poster who loves interaction just as much, if not more than, combat and would happily spend a long time simply interacting with other characters and NPCs. I am going to try and post every day, job permitting. However, I'm not perfect and I make mistakes.

Feel free to read Gerod's character sheet and his background. If a potential DM has further questions please let me know.
Greetings,

I am writing you with a heart filled with mixed emotions. As of the time of this writing I have arrived in the town of Sandpoint. I am sure that you have heard from Lord Kelldonza about his missing daughter, my Mistress the Lady Dame Kelldonza, but that is only one event that has occurred during but a single day here at Sandpoint. I shall attempt to relate what happened in as clear a manner as I may.

Upon my arrival I discovered that Sandpoint was celebrating an event called the Swallowtail Festival. I was quite impressed with it, and I have much to say about it, but something terrible also happened. At the height of the festival the town was attacked by goblins of an unknown number. Many were injured and several killed before the goblins could be driven off. I must crave forgiveness, however, for I killed a goblin during the attack. I have prayed for justice to be done to its’ soul, but the taking of a life is a heavy burden. I ask that you give me some penance that I may perform that I might find some forgiveness in the heavens.

There is another matter that I feel a need to confess. I have met many good and noble people during this one day. One is an elven woman named Dannie, who is an exotic beauty that appears to be a friend to Lady Dame Elane Kelldonza. She is a special person, and it seems as if the light of the sun shines upon her continuously. I have no knowledge of the workings of a woman’s heart, Lady Dame Elane Kelldonza has informed me that it is a lesson that I am not prepared for, but I sense some strangeness about her, as if she feels uncomfortable around me and many of those she has met. I shall endeavor to understand her better, for anyone who is a friend to my Mistress is a friend to me and I wish to be as kind as I may.

Another person that I have met is a short and stout man by the name of Tamai. He has spoken gruffly, but not unkind I think. While I have not knowingly met a dwarf yet I imagine that one would be like him. He is a good fighter and has also offered his aid in my search to find my Mistress. I should accept his help gladly, although I’m not so certain about his invitation to drink due to our order’s views on the consumption of fermented beverages. I shall endeavor to be polite as always, but would appreciate any advice you might have.

Miss Sorn, a young girl who appears to enjoy fighting with her fists is another person I have encountered. I do not yet know what to make of her, but I will praise her fighting ability. She handled herself well during the goblin attack. I thank my service to my Mistress for preparing me for the sight of women fighting head to head with monsters. It still feels unnatural to me, and I find myself striving to protect her from harm, but I am trying to understand. Would it be wrong of me to suggest that she wear some armor Father Thomas? I do not wish to offend.

I have also encountered a young man named Jinn. I feel sorrow for him though, for he lost his new fiancé during the goblin attack. He appears to have channeled his grief into anger at the goblins. I an concerned that it will consume him. I remember well your lesions about revenge. I shall attempt to pass them onto him should he be willing to listen. If you have any advice or help please wrote me.

I met a man by the name of Master Foxglove, aiding Dannie to save his life during the goblin raid. He is a good man who has invited me to go hunting with him. He has also promised his aid in helping to find my Mistress. I readily accept it. He even granted me a generous gift. Some armor for Alana. It is wonderful to meet such a generous soul in this time of trial.

There is one other person that I feel compelled to tell you about, and they are the source of much of my troubled heart. I was wondering the streets of Sandpoint alone and lost at the beginning of the day when a young lady by the name of Shayliss took pity on me. She guided me through the town and welcomed me to the festival. She even introduced me to several of the local people, and helped me find the owner of the Rusty Dragon Inn. She has the ability to ease my troubles with a simple smile and I can’t seem to help but feel my cheeks heat when I am with her.

I am afraid, Father Thomas, for I have never thought these thoughts before or felt these feelings about anyone. Shayliss is so kind and gentle, and I sense a purity in her expression that touches my very soul. She is beautiful, as much as any lady of noble birth I have seen, and I feel my feet leave the ground when she touches my arm with her delicate fingers. I remember your advice about a lady love, and although she may not be noble of birth I feel that Shayliss could be the Lady of my Heart. I fear only that her father seems to dislike me, although I cannon understand why. I shall strive to win his favor through deeds of valor. It is my intention to ask Shayliss for a Favor next we meet. I hope that she will grant it.

My fear is, however, that none have ever captured me so, and I find her entering my thoughts frequently. Especially after she bestowed a kiss upon me. My lips still burn with the memory, and I feel a strong desire to feel her kiss again. I fear that my thoughts are less than pure, and my cheeks heat with shame to admit that I fear such thoughts could possibly distract me from my mission. I must beseech you for forgiveness and some penance for the sins in my thoughts. I fear I understand now at least a little of why some Knights do such strange things for the love of their ladies.

Please, Father Thomas, guide me with your wisdom. I shall strive to do what is right, but I worry about my lack of experience and pray that I don’t do further harm. Am I a fool? Have I lost my way? What must I do?

With Great Humility,

Jereth
Revered Father Thomas,

I write to you with a heavy heart. It is my duty to inform you that your daughter, Lady Dame Kelldonza, has gone missing. I traveled far to Wartle to deliver messages for her, and arrived at the town of Sandpoint upon the set day of our meeting, only to discover that she has failed to arrive. My suspicions were further aroused when I met a young Lady by the name of Dannie who claimed to have tried to meet up with Lady Dame Kelldonza but found only her riding gloves. She would not have left these gloves behind on her own unless she was in dire straights, given that they are a gift from your most noble self. I feel that I have no choice but to assume that something has befallen her somewhere within the forests surrounding Sandpoint.

I am beginning a search for her, even though I lack much skill in that area, and will enlist what help I may. I will not fail in my sacred duty to you or your house. It is my intention to continue to search the forests surrounding Sandpoint for as long as it takes to discover her fate. I will be using Sandpoint itself as a home base during my search. Messages can be left at the Rusty Dragon Inn should you wish to reach me. I shall send word if this changes.

However, I do have one humble request. The man who delivered this letter is one Sheriff Hemlock from Sandpoint. The town was recently attacked by goblins, and much of their town guard is either wounded or very green. I fear for the safety of the innocents here should another attack occur. The Sheriff has come to Magnimar in the hopes of securing more aid in the form of equipment and personnel. I ask that, for the sake of the good people of Sandpoint, you see if there is anything that you might do to help him secure the aid he needs quickly so that his people are not without his protection for too long. He has appointed several deputies to watch over the town in his absence, offering me the post as well but my honor forced me to refuse lest I be distracted from finding Lady Dame Kelldonza. I shall render the people of the town what aid I can, for I believe them to be good solid people.

I understand if you are unable to help, and crave your forgiveness for daring to ask such a thing from you. You are truly wiser than one such as myself and I shall accept your decision. If you should see fit to replace me with a more experienced member of the house I shall return. I ask only to serve as you see is best.

Most Humbly Your Servant

So far the plan is to meet on the 13th at the local HobbyTown USA at Noon and then play to around six or seven.

So, I'm looking for a head-count of who out of those in the group plans on being there, as well as if anyone else wants to DM this time. Please respond here instead of E-Mail if you can so we can keep the information centralized.

His alertness serves him quite well, however, when the rustle of leaves alerts them to the presence of another creature. He pulls Alana up slowly with the reins as well as a signal from his knees. A grin spreads over his face and he turns towards Aldem and bows his head before setting his lance butt upon the ground, leaning it against Alana’s shoulder and dismounting. “Your gift is very welcome Master Aldem. I shall do my best to honor it, and I know that Alana will appreciate it as well.”

His smile remains upon his face as he moves the lance aside, leaning it against the stable wall, and helps the servants buckle the barding over Alana. Each thick and metal studded sheet of leather is fitted carefully into place, with Jereth double checking straps, cinches, and buckles all the while. Alana’s eyes roll as the minutes pass by, but she remains still for the entire possess.

Once that is finished he borrows a small hammer and wedge the nearby stable. Taking Alana’s lift front hoof between his knees, and allowing her to lean slightly against his own shoulders, he places the wedge upon the packed dirt that has filled up her shoe over the past few days. A few strikes of the hammer later and he has cleaned out the hard packed earth, as well as a few small stones, from her shoe. The same process is repeated with all of Alana’s hooves as Jereth makes sure that each one is clean and ready for the hunt. With that done he gladly returns the hammer and wedge.

Meanwhile, Alana’s gaze has traveled over the other horses in the gathering, and her wicker when she spots the warpony seems almost matranizing. Here eyes quickly turn, however, when Dannie speaks to her own horse, and the pupils dilate slightly before she blinks.
Jereth’s eyes grow large at the sight of the barding. He goes back out to Alana and climbs onto her back. With a head full of thoughts and a heart full of feeling he directs Alana towards the Rusty Dragon and then lets her set her own pace. Holding his lance steady with his right hand he looks around at Sandpoint, seeing the damage done by the attack the day before, but also the signs of life and healing already coming to the town.

For the first time in many years he finds himself wishing that his duty to the Knights of Irespan wasn’t so strict. He would love to have been able to accept the Sheriff’s offer. After all, A Knight is supposed to serve and protect all people, and these simple folk of Sandpoint seem worth protecting. His mind floats back to the stories he has been told of the terrors housed within the Irespan. Where those terrors still there? His superiors said they were. Who was a lowly Squire to question their wisdom. He shakes his head. Thinking like this wouldn’t do him any good.

Whistling a pleasant tune to try and lift his spirit Jereth finishes the journey to the Inn and finds Aldem waiting outside. He looks over the gathered horses, and notes the glint in Alana’s eye when she turns her head to look back at him. Smiling Jereth pats her neck before leaning back in the saddle somewhat and listening to the others talk. He wouldn’t mind knowing what sort of hunting they are going to be doing either. Sadly, Jereth glances at his lance and then at the gathering hunters. His left hand touches his nearly empty money pouch. Probably not enough to buy even a proper hunting spear.
Jereth nods his head and smiles. “Perhaps.” Before taking his leave of those gathered there. Feel free to post there if either of you are still interested.Jereth (alias of Wiglaf)2008-07-07T16:49:33ZForums: Off-Topic Discussions: Pinky, are You Thinking what I'm Thinking?Jereth (alias of Wiglaf)https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ih4l?Pinky-are-You-Thinking-what-Im-Thinking#22008-07-06T23:42:14Z2008-07-06T23:42:14Z
...if people wore socks on their ears, wouldn't their toes get cold?
...if people wore socks on their ears, wouldn't their toes get cold?Jereth (alias of Wiglaf)2008-07-06T23:42:14ZRe: Forums: Play-by-Post: Tarlane's RotRL Alpha PbPJereth (alias of Wiglaf)https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ie7b&page=5?Tarlanes-RotRL-Alpha-PbP#2192008-09-28T06:06:22Z2008-07-06T22:46:39Z
The next morning finds Jereth awake and polishing up his gear. He chastises himself for not being sure to clean everything before going to bed. That was very sloppy and unforgivable. So, when the town guard comes looking for him, he can be found in the tables brushing Alana. He wears a very plain beige tunic today, having put the bloody one from yesterday away in anticipation of needing to repair and it later. He is humming a song to himself when he hears the guard clear his throat.

“Oh, good morning.” He says before listening to the man’s message. “Thank you, I hadn’t forgotten. I’ll be going right now.” Setting the grooming brush aside Jereth pats Alana’s head and smiles. Then gives her a handful of oats.

Turning away and wiping his bands clean he nods to the guard. “Shall we be off then?” The young squire tries not to notice the awe in the guards’ expression It made him rather uncomfortable. He isn’t used to that sort of thing from anyone after spending so many years as nothing better than a servant, although a highly trained one. Jereth finds himself being quiet, and thus avoiding conversation with the guard. It wasn’t entirely polite, but he simply didn’t know what to say.

Once he reaches the appointed place he smiles at the people gathered there. “Good Morning, I hope you had a good nights rest.”
The next morning finds Jereth awake and polishing up his gear.
Man, all of this looking at art makes me want to buy copies of some of this and put it up on my wall. Most of my friends decorate their rooms with scantily clad models. Me, Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's, Marlyn, Sean Connery, Frank Sinatra, and several paintings depicting Knights and their Lady-Loves. Add some of these to that collection and its' all pretty good classic and classy stuff. Now if only I can improve my own painting skills... Sorry, just thinking/typing out loud.
I remember now, you showed us that earlier. Very nice.

I like that image. Also, I'm imagining her father's face when she tells him that she is leaving to ride off with Jereth. Priceless, and scary. Then there is the possible image of her telling Jereth that she has permission to go only for him to find out later that she had really just sneaked away. Oh conflict and character development galore either way. :)

I tried to find some images of the other party members, but my google-fu is weak where gnomes are concerned, and I am afraid I just don't have too much of an idea of your character Jinn. It will come later. The same issue with your monk Damia. Although I would guess you would be far better at finding an image for her than I.

I did find some that could work for Dannie, but I'm having difficulty finding one I can link to. Most of them are at least partially nude though so not linking is probably a good thing. I've got nothing against drawing nudes mind you. I just don't like linking to them.
Very cool. I like that image. Turning back towards the courtyard he continues riding Alana. His own thoughts are a jumble now. Images of Shayliss struggle with images of him riding through the streets of Magnimar in full armor with lance held proudly and a beautiful sword strapped to his side. Then there is the image of him sitting upon Alana with modest arms and armor riding through a peaceful Sandpoint. The badge of a town guard pinned to his tabard and a rather pretty varisian scarf trailing from his helmet.

He shakes his head trying to clear it. Instead he concentrates upon the image of Lady Dame Elane Keldonza alone and in pain, possibly even captured by goblins. He chastises himself and tries to remind his heart that securing Lady Dame Keldonza’s safety is his first priority. A true Squire never abandons his Knight. He will find her, and then maybe she will forgive his faults and see fit to make his a Knight, or at least continue to train him.

With these thoughts in his mind now, and a far more sober expression upon his face, Jereth returns to the square and dismounts from Alana. Wincing at the pain coming from his wound he goes in search of the priest and his helpers. “Forgive my intrusion Father, but might you or your acolytes have any healing left?”
Jereth smiles his thanks to the sheriff as the man turns and walks away. A no-nonsense detective devoted to his work and really good at what he does. No solid reason, that’s just the image that comes to mind. The hard rock café idea is pretty awesome. The end result could be very spectacular.

Its good to know that images can be available. But don’t sweat it. If something comes up for me I’ll let you know. I’ve never used item cards before, well not since I played DragonStrike many years ago anyway. Could be fun to take a look, but only if it isn’t too much trouble.

I’m rather surprised about how fast Jereth is falling myself. I had decided before the game started that he would be rather innocent and naive, and its’ almost like he’s taken on a life of his own. I’m almost jealous of the guy.
Oh, and I shall accept said blame for the cat hat if it should come to pass. During college I was part of a student run theater club. We had all sorts of oddness going on. Having never been kissed before the youth is at a loss, and his blush grows all the brighter. Then her face, which for this moment seems to encompass his entire world, turns from his cheek and instead brushes his lips with her own. The result is that Jereth, silent and with an awestruck expression upon his face, watches Shayliss depart. A warm feeling grows and spreads throughout his body and a very large grin spreads across his face. He stands there watching her until she is well out of sight.

The grin is still upon him when he slowly turns around and mounts Alana as if in a daze. His eyes drift back towards the shop again as his legs nudge Alana forward back towards the cathedral square. Alana, having watched the exchange with her deep blue eyes, gives a snort and then performs a small jump that jars Jereth. Quickly turning back towards Alana with his vision focused once more Jereth gives her a questioning look. “What?” She looks back at him, wickers, and then begins trotting back towards the square.

As they ride a song comes to Jereth's lips. It is something that he remembers hearing long ago, but he can't quite place where. His voice is a deep rich baritone, and the smile adds a certain joy to his words.

"I have dreamed thee too long
Never seen thee or touched thee
But known thee with all of my heart

Half a prayer half a song
Thou hast always been with me
Though we have been always apart.

Dulcinea, Dulcinea
I have sought thee sung thee dreamed thee
Dulcinea
And thy name is like a prayer an angel whispers
Dulcinea, Dulcinea.

If I reach out to thee
Do not tremble and shrink
from the touch of my hand on thy hair.

Let my fingers but see
thou art warm and alive
and no phantom to fade in the air.

Dulcinea, Dulcinea
I have sought thee, sung thee, dreamed thee
Dulcinea
Now I've found thee and the world shall know thy glory

Shaking his head as he gently turns Alana towards the location, he thinks, of the temple square Jereth lets her pick her own pace.
Then he hears a familiar voice and turns his head to see Shayliss giggling in an alley. Swiftly dismounting he walks up to meet her even as...Jereth (alias of Wiglaf)2008-07-01T00:26:31ZRe: Forums: Play-by-Post: Tarlane's RotRL Alpha PbPJereth (alias of Wiglaf)https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ie7b&page=4?Tarlanes-RotRL-Alpha-PbP#1862008-09-28T06:06:22Z2008-06-30T20:47:38Z
Jereth bows his head slightly. Offering the man a smile he bows his head slightly. “Thank the gods that she is alright. Still, sir, I fear you misunderstand my intentions. I am no ruffian or callous youth. I came here to be sure that she is safe from the attack, and to offer my services. As repayment for the kindness shown me I give my word that while I am in Sandpoint you and your family may call upon me for aid, and it will be gladly given.”

He resists the urge to call out to Shayliss when she smiles at him, although it does warm his heart. He does turn his head slightly though so that his smile is directed towards her for an instant before turning back towards her father.
Jereth doesn’t step back, even though the pain of the finger poking his wounded chest makes him wince, and instead meets the mans gaze with his own. Still, he bows his head when coming across the remains of those who have been killed. Offering a simple prayer for the souls of the dead he continues his search for the living.

Following the directions of a day laborer Jereth finds himself in front of the General Store. Tying the lance to the saddle horn so that it stands upright and hanging his shield from the saddle Jereth dismounts and approaches the door. Raising his fist he knocks upon the wooden portal and waits for an answer.

The sight of the drunken man from before surprises Jereth somewhat, but then it clicks in his mind that this is probably a relative or guardian. Offering the man a smile Jereth speaks, “Greetings, I’m Jereth Holtan, squire to Lady Dame Elane Keldonza, of Magnimar. Please forgive my rude appearance. I assure you, the goblins I faced came off far worse than my horse and I.” He gestures at the blood, both his own and goblin, which spatters his clothing as well as Alana behind him. “I am a stranger to Sandpoint and met a young woman named Shayliss who was kind enough to show me around the festival earlier. I am concerned about her and wish to make sure that she, and her family, are safe and unhurt. I was told that I would find her here. May I enter?”
Jereth finds himself feeling a little relieved that so little damage appears to have been done. Still, he bows his head when coming across the remains of those who have been killed.
