To Casimir on the road "Well that's often the way it might seem at first but we listen to the loud folk for a reason, We let them lead first for similar reasons. If the loud folk fail then leadership falls to those who have proven themselves in times of crisis. Also letting the loud folk run up to the front is a good way to keep enemy attention off of people like you and me."

Venkar chats around the fort for an hour or so before wandering off outside, unless called he will bunk down with the loggers and tell tall tales.

In the original converation with Felix
Conversation with Viktor:
"I understand, perhaps I've grown a bit suspicious I will do as you say and work to bring us together as a group. If nothing else it might give others pause to see your most vocal rival come to your side." Venkar smiles and slaps Viktor on the back. A good diplomat he is and not just in skill, morality too. I wonder what will happen if we run into some hard decisions. I guess that will decide things in many peoples eyes if it happens. Venkar attempts to keep up with the caravan as without a horse he has to keep up a light jog most times. This does little to foul his mood though as he is bright and friendly, and often engages in small conversation with anyone he happens to be walking next to.

Calistril 25 Morning
Mayor Ioseph and Swordlord Jemandi:
"I was wondering if I could perhaps request a set of manacles and a lock from you? I am unfortunately short on funds at the moment but I think it might be prudent to have something a bit more sturdy than rope to detain any bandits we may take alive for questioning. I will do my best to repay your generosity in this matter." Ret conversation with Felix Venkar does his best to be respectful around Felix as he believes him to be one to care for protocol and chain of command. Although his rudeness to Viktor has made him aware that this may be one-sided. "I look forward to working with you sir, I can tell you are a serious minded-fellow and I hope to learn some of you skills in diplomatic intrigue as I am but a simple scholar and am inexperienced in the dance of social power. I will do my utmost to make myself useful for as long as you are my superior." During his travel on the road Venkar moves to speak with Viktor quietly. To Viktor(discretely):
I noticed you put me in a squad under one of your rivals, and now it seems you plan to have Casimir switch into the squad as well. While I look forward to the opportunity to discuss design with him, I cannot help but feel you are placing me with them as a not so subtle safeguard, hmmm?
I was the first to directly support you in the hall and they are aware of this, although I expect their ambition will quickly blind them to that. Are you hoping I will keep an eye on them? If so no problem as I am solidly in your corner better to keep all you potential snakes in one basket eh?" Venkar will also make a point of speaking to Casimir during the trip. "Well hello sir it appears from the rumors you and I will be in the same squad. I look forward to passing notes with you on design and engineering. I always enjoy working with a fellow invetor. How are you enjoying the travel so far?" I just now caught up. This is looking great so far.

Venkar looks around for a moment before clearing his throat. "In the short time I've been here one man has moved smoothly between the great variety of personalities here. He has mediated arguments as they arose and ensured we all gained focus here. I would like to pledge my open support to Viktor Stoyvet as the leader of this expedition!"

"I appreciate your sentiment sir Casimir. I look forward to when we can get to exploring the land."[b] He nods at Casimir and smiles as if nothing was ever wrong. [b]"Sir Marick I would greatly appreciate your aid in the black powder end of things, especially as I hope to refine or alter the recipe to remove the unfortunate cloud of smoke that it always produces and, perhaps lessen the strain upon the barrel per shot." Venkar hands Marick a small sheaf of notes on the subject. His eyes gleaming excitedly.

Venkar stares at Casimir as one would with a very slow child "I highly doubt a few thunderstones would have made a difference when dragons were involved, I know that it was a massacre for the swordlords and Rostland but it was still brave and honorable to resist oppression when it arose. Rostland suffered greatly that day. Stubborn or no we stood against a tyrant while House Orlovsky hid from that fight like you alwa- He grows increasingly upset through his speech before cutting himself off. "I apologise... Sir, you cannot be held responsible for the actions of those 200 years past. I may have taken your jest wrong."

"Indeed, my lord although you will note I added in a set of chamagne artillery. I believe that if the Swordlords had, had access to blackpowder and even the most primitive of cannons the Dragons of Choral would not have stood a chance!" He notes several positions where guns or cannon would have shifted the battle. "I look forward to the opportunity to prove the effectiveness of black powder in the Stolen Lands.

Venkar begins piling his plate as patiently as he can manage while listening to the general murmur of conversation. He didn't care much for the Orlovsky's or any of the noble houses. Mainly because he blaimed their lack of protection the reason he had lost his village. Still he was a practical sort and knew it was unlikely any of these nobles were directly responsible for that tragedy.
Big OM wrote: As Venkar begins to jot down the measurements a young man walks up to him, clearly keeping his distance to the machine. "Your kind of fancy?" he asks nodding towards the machine? Venkar startles for a moment and then smiles. Oh yes absolutely! I find all manner of construct, clockwork and, technology fascinating! I consider myself a student of Numerian and Alkenstar technology mostly. Notice the drive shaft and gear mechanism clearly a summoned construct. However the design is inspiring nonetheless. I must admit out of these noble folks Casimir seems the most interesting but I don't know much about nobles. He blinks for a minute and takes a breath as if he forgot to do so. He then thrusts out a hand covered in black grease and bandages. Apologies, I'm Venkar, who are you?
Basic Crunch is up. I had a background that the intetnet ate, I will attempt to retype it soon
background short version: Venkar had a large family of which he was the eldest sibling. He grew up very protective of them. When he was 16 he began to develop as a sorcerer. He trained his talents in secret. Just before his 17th birthday his home was raided by gnolls from distant Alkenstar. All of his siblings were killed in the attack. Since that day he has hated gnolls and held a fixation on guns. He kept a lock of each siblings hair and hopes to resurrect them all someday. |
