Seriously, that's why I play and love my flames oracle. The second I saw the description of the curses I was like "ohhh I gotta play this."

Working around the curse can be awkward largely because of the extra 'unused' focus point that's stuck there after the first time you use a focus spell (so archetyping into something that gives another focus spell is nice), but so far I don't feel myself to be weak. In fact the flames oracle focus spell has come in clutch many many times and I often pull it out in most fights unless the situation is unsuited for it. Helps that I have an alchemist in the party who is very happy to lob an alchemist's fire after I set up the aura and get into position (I took the toughness feat so I'm a bit better suited to being in the front area too)

Granted, the flames oracle curse also isn't too bad, but also that's because my GM gave me some extra fire spells to add to my list because dear goodness lord is being required to take a feat to have more than 1 spell that interacts with your curse a massive bummer (shoutout to the tempest oracles who have it even worse off) (Really hoping they fix this in the remaster <3 )
The vibes are immense.

I always try to tell players when those things matter and I think it's helped my players (and myself) value those +/-1 a bit more because it's definitely hard to value those coming into the system new when it's such a small number, particularly when the source of that small number is a successful save against a Fear spell as opposed to a failed save.
If anyone is playing on Foundry, my experience GMing as a new GM is that I love the module 'Modifiers Matter'.
There's jpg like pixel compressions all over the place.

If you're unsure what the difference is, an obvious spot to look at is where different colours meet. Look at the highlight on the top of Ayrzul's snout for example. That bright line looks a lot more blocky on my version. The cracks in the skulls are blurrier and less sharp. You can also see lots of compression in the background colours, it's more blurred together where in the product image you can see how there's more solid shapes of the brush strokes. And bear in mind, this is just the cover art. The very first image you'd see. And one where you have an obvious reference of another image. Disregard the different 'width' of it since that's clearly just because of the perspective effect on the product image.

Perhaps it's because I'm an artist myself, and often commission other artists, and the fact that I buy these PDFs 70% for the art, that I notice these compressions and pixellations more than Aaron might? It's like an image that's been shared around so often it's gone through more than just a few jpg compressions (compared to other PDFs I bought where it's much more minor and what I'd expect because I know compressions have to happen).

I've already sent my concerns to the team which had the "We are aware it's an issue and it's being looked into" response, so I don't know if sending anything in again wouldn't be adding much, I'm sure the other artists would know how obvious these issues are and I feel like pointing it out to them like a child might be almost condescending, but if it might help, maybe I can send in another concern again later this week if just because I'm concerned that the issue might have been dismissed due to Aaron's dismissive responses.

I'd have to echo the other notions of being hesitant to buy these in the future if this is the new standard of quality. I can get the lore (the 30% of what I buy these books for) from elsewhere. This is an insanely disappointing response to what previously I had given so much excitement for.
Well let's look at the cover art, on 100% size (which is not how I personally typically consume the PDF, I prefer being zoomed in more at 125%).

There's two first level feats that can solve the issue.

One adds a versatile element choice for your blasts (for fire, that's cold), and the other enables you to treat your blasts as B/P/S and add weapon traits to them.

Kineticists also get a feature at 3rd level that enables them to bypass enemy resistances and immunities to their element, provided that the creature has that elemental trait. So a pyrokineticist can burn a fire elemental to death, albeit needing a bit of luck and patience in order to succeed.

I still don't understand why 'oh you get to pick feats that solves it' makes the whole 'fire only gets one damage type' issue perfectly fine. The other elements aren't forced to choose those feats at level 1 since they already have that versatility of 2 damage types baked in and the extras is just icing on top. The other elements also get the resist/immune bypass (which notably work on elementals but not like, devils) . I still don't understand why they made that decision besides a weird fear of the fire element that every system seems to have. Getting to do an average of like 1 damage higher (1d6->1d8) for going single gate fire doesn't seem like that amazing of a trade off for basically having your first feat "choice" locked in. Much like the same issue Flames/Tempest oracles have if they want spells that interact with their mystery and theme. Yay for choice tax...

Is there something actually cool, mechanically, about single gate fire or is it just copium that paizo isn't just making weird decisions again and fire is just plain better off doing dual gate? I need to mentally prepare myself for if I should just accept that pure fire is pure lackluster, again, and maybe adjust my character idea for it. The subscription is far too expensive for me not living in the USA, so I have to wait til the 3rd and live in dread as I see nothing but 'oh you can pick feats to fix the problem they purposely created' for the build concept I was most looking forward to. Please help me be hyped again.
TheGentlemanDM wrote:JiCi wrote:Even then, you can specialize in only one element, you just need a secondary damage type in case you run into something resistant or immune. This is very important for fire, as other elements already offer bludgeoning, piercing or slashing.
Fire can bludgeon as "hard light", and either pierce or slash like a blowtorch... if it can make sense.
You won't have any problems with this. There's two first level feats that can solve the issue.

I mean, it kind of depends on his intended engagement envelope. If you want him in close, then obviously you're going to want at least 14, or you're going to want to get him into heavier armor. Admittedly, Brad doesn't really seem like a "heavy armor" guy. On the other hand, the combination of Fire and a 12 str suggests that you're not eager for the clash of battle, which means that you could •probably• afford to let your dex lag. Kineticists have a fair bit of HP for someone who's staying in the back.

Basically, if you start dex at 14 and stay in light, you cap your AC at level 5. If you start at 12 and stay in light, you cap at level 10. After you hit cap, any further dex you get is... unexciting.

Brad seems like the kind of guy who's maybe put on a few more pounds than are really good for him, and might take a while to work those off.

So... I might suggest dropping dex to 12 for that cha of 16? Might explain his relationship with his kids and his ex-wives, too... he's good enough on charm to fly on that in the short and even medium term, but eventually they first figured out and then got royally sick of his BS. Maybe he'll learn. Maybe he won't.

Yeah, I intend for him to be more of a backliner, make use of fire's 60ft range. He'll only be in melee if like he's really forced to like backed in a corner. He's definitely not a heavy armour guy. Good point on them having a good bit of HP, with my experience in PF2e so far I'm just eternally scared of crits happening because I'm missing that extra bit of dex haha.

You have a good point with when I 'cap' my AC. I didn't even consider that, I'm so used to wanting to make it as high as possible for Dex builds. I just don't want him to die before then.

And yes he definitely put on a few pounds. He's got a bit of a beer gut he hides with his slightly baggy shirt.

Hahahaha, I love your insight, thank you it made my day which has started on a rough foot. I will definitely take your ideas in mind, I think 16 cha is what my heart ultimately wants but the small 'optimiser' in me is scared of the higher chance to get crit. On the other hand him getting rekt early on would be a rather fitting if sad ending.
Sanityfaerie wrote:Twiggies wrote:I'm trying to think of what stat spread Brad the mid-life crisis adventurer dad should have. Fire loses out on having two damage types like the others, and they said they were trying to make single element feel good and not make multiple mandatory. That's the issue. If it's a mandatory feat tax that's super lame. That's what I'm worried about when the main thing I was looking forward to was a mono fire build that didn't get instantly walled. I want to have hope but I've also seen what every other ttrpg I've played does to mono element builds.Gaulin wrote:I do hope that extract element can make immunities resistances instead, even on things that don't share your elements trait.
