RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)
Victrix Bloodmane wrote:
My only real concern was feeling kind of overshadowed by Terana at the end.

Sorry Vic, definitely not my intention at any point! It's nearly impossible to out damage a smiting paladin but I'm really sorry if my doing so spoiled things for you. :(

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana, always a wandering soul, found surprising contentment in the Compass. Even once the ghost of Jazradan was finally exorcised from Golarion (although not before it and Terana had battled once more) she remained at her post, taking in the wonders of a world long past and preventing the dangerous secrets of the Ioun Imperative, and the algothulu's both from ever seeing the light of day once more.

The Mordant Spite sent a large contingent to claim the facility 'as the true inheritors of Azlant' but fortunately Terana was able to turn them away without violence. Shelyn eventually rewarded Terana's steadfast faith with a divine blessing and a task - eternal guardianship over the Compass and all its wonders.

Time may pass, new nations rise and fall but as long as Terana breathes still no-one will ever again attempt to use the Synchrony Device to destroy Golarion.

Terana gains the Divine Guardian template and stands guard over the Compass. She'll always be happy to have visitors though! ;)

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Thank you all very much for letting me join in after my other game shut down! Hopefully Terana's presence made some of this a little easier for you all and didn't take away too much fun.

Thank also, as always, to Brainiac our fabulous GM, whose consistency and dedication are unmatched upon these boards. You are the best of GM's and it is a pleasure.

"I will remain here if necessary." Terana says calmly. "Protecting the device is a worthy cause enough, although the temptation to target the Gallowspire with the positive energy plane is considerable..." She holds up a hand. "I understand completely, it cannot be used. Unless the elemental plane of water and somewhere in the deep ocean? Or perhaps the Plane of Air near the Eye of Abendego? I do think discharging the device might be the most effective way to end it. Still, I will remain here while you all journey the islands to find these 'pads'. You all have a better idea of where they are I'm sure."

She nods firmly to Victrix's statement. "We are fortunate that he has no regenerated already, so destroy it and let us be done with him."

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana might be a bit slow on the uptake but when given cues as obvious as this one she is still capable of getting the right idea!

Smite, Hero, Haste, PA Full Attack: 1d20 + 36 ⇒ (1) + 36 = 371d20 + 36 ⇒ (5) + 36 = 411d20 + 31 ⇒ (17) + 31 = 481d20 + 26 ⇒ (20) + 26 = 461d20 + 21 ⇒ (13) + 21 = 34
Damage: 2d6 + 48 ⇒ (2, 4) + 48 = 542d6 + 48 ⇒ (2, 4) + 48 = 542d6 + 48 ⇒ (6, 3) + 48 = 572d6 + 48 ⇒ (6, 4) + 48 = 582d6 + 48 ⇒ (5, 5) + 48 = 58
Crit: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (18) + 26 = 444d6 + 96 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 6) + 96 = 113

Her divinely powered blows prove just as effective against the ghost as they did against the aboleth.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"What's happening?" Terana demands, spinning around. "There must be an emergency way to turn it off!"

Talk as a free action. ;)

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Glaive: 1d20 + 35 ⇒ (4) + 35 = 391d20 + 35 ⇒ (16) + 35 = 511d20 + 30 ⇒ (5) + 30 = 351d20 + 25 ⇒ (15) + 25 = 401d20 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 20 = 30

Terana battles on, striking Ochyma with all her divinely powered might!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Did Ochyma take the -4 on its attack roll thanks to my cleansing flame?

Will, Slimehunter, Aura, Hero: 1d20 + 20 + 2 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 20 + 2 + 4 + 2 = 39
Ref, Slimehunter, Aura, Hero: 1d20 + 16 + 2 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 16 + 2 + 4 + 2 = 27

Terana has been training for this her entire life and no magic is going to stop her now!

Glaive, PA, Smite, Hero: 1d20 + 31 - 5 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 31 - 5 + 7 + 2 = 421d20 + 31 - 5 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 31 - 5 + 7 + 2 = 491d20 + 26 - 5 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 26 - 5 + 7 + 2 = 441d20 + 21 - 5 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 21 - 5 + 7 + 2 = 351d20 + 16 - 5 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 16 - 5 + 7 + 2 = 21

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"No dibs!" Terana replies, blinking out of sight and reappearing a bare moment later. She summons her divine power and hurries forwards to join in the aboleth smashing.

Charge, Smite, Heroism, PA: 1d20 + 31 + 2 + 7 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (3) + 31 + 2 + 7 + 2 - 5 = 402d6 + 33 + 34 ⇒ (3, 2) + 33 + 34 = 72

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

You all get Terana's Cleansing Flame for a +2 sacred bonus on your saves so I'm fairly sure you pass Ema!

I'm assuming Terana, being clad in a huge suit of metal, is the primary target either way. :)

Reflex, Purity: 1d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 16 + 4 = 271d20 + 16 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 16 + 4 = 40

Terana throws off the lightning almost without twitching and her wounds close as she hurries forwards towards Ochymua.

LoH: 7d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 1, 4, 5, 2, 3) = 18

Double Move.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana quaffs the extract without question and is thankful for the nearly full-face helm which helps conceal her grin as the aboleth appears in her view.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana may be a paladin but she isn't stupid. She advances slowly, trying her best to look peaceable and uses her honed senses to try and locate the aboleth's real location.

Using Detect Aberration to try and find the real one, since it's obviously not the azlanti! :D

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana curses, quite fluently in four languages and keeps walking. What Simon says makes sense but with foes likely alerted for battle scouting is going to take more time that its worth.

Once healed she carries on.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"Move!" Terana commands telepathically and starts hustling down the corridor, sparing a brief second to close some of her wounds.

LoH: 7d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 4, 3, 1, 5) = 26 Assuming it takes 36 seconds to get to the next fight she heals 18 more as well.
LoH: 7d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 2, 2, 1, 3) = 15

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana growls and strikes once, twice, thrice more!

Attacks: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (10) + 31 = 411d20 + 31 ⇒ (16) + 31 = 471d20 + 26 ⇒ (2) + 26 = 281d20 + 21 ⇒ (13) + 21 = 341d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Damage: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (3, 2) + 16 = 212d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 6) + 16 = 272d6 + 16 ⇒ (3, 1) + 16 = 202d6 + 16 ⇒ (3, 3) + 16 = 222d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 4) + 16 = 22

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Glaive: 1d20 + 31 ⇒ (7) + 31 = 381d20 + 31 ⇒ (2) + 31 = 331d20 + 26 ⇒ (4) + 26 = 301d20 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 231d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Damage: 2d6 + 16 ⇒ (4, 5) + 16 = 252d6 + 16 ⇒ (2, 4) + 16 = 222d6 + 16 ⇒ (4, 2) + 16 = 222d6 + 16 ⇒ (4, 1) + 16 = 212d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 3) + 16 = 20

Terana retaliates but she's clearly more concerned with the battle that she is sure lies ahead than the one right in front of her.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

I'm immune to a number of poisons anyway. ;)

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana will have:

- Immunity to all poison and disease delivered by the natural attacks of creatures with the aquatic or water subtypes.
- a +4 sacred bonus on all saving throws vs. spells/effects of aberrations.
- divine bond: upping her glaive to +5 speed.
- immunity to charm and compulsion spells/spell-like abilities.
- +17 to her CMD to avoid being grappled and on escape artist checks to escape being grappled

Allies within 10 feet will get:
- +4 morale bonus vs charm and compulsion spells/spell-likes
- +1 sacred bonus on all saves vs aberrations

She'll also throw off a Cleansing Flame: At 11th level, you may expend two uses of your smite evil ability to ignite your weapon with a cleansing blue flame for 1 minute. This flame sheds light as a torch. Aberrations within 20 feet of the flame take a –4 penalty on attack rolls against you and your allies, and your allies within 20 feet of the flame gain a +2 sacred bonus on saving throws against spells and effects from aberrations.

That'll use up one use of her bond (leaving 3) and two smites (also leaving 3).

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"We must press on." Terana says, shaking her head at the Grand Arcanist's suggestion as she swigs a couple of potions. "Beating the Veiled Master is the only thing that matters and if it has arrived before us then we must not give it any more time with the device!"

Because this is meant to be a race against time damn it!

CMW Potion x2: 4d8 + 6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 1) + 6 = 13

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana - Paladin 17

+1 BAB
+4 skill points (Dance, Handle Animal, Diplomacy, UMD)
Aura of Righteousness (which might prove extremely useful!)

Feat: Toughness (also, not much I really wanted).

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Well hitting her on a 7 is good. The double crit back, not so much!

With her team behind her Terana grins slightly maniacally and eels through the water which is her natural home.

You fight well General. She says telepathically. I am sorry this can only end in your death but it is the fate of those who fight alone.

Glaive, Smite, PA: 1d20 + 35 - 5 ⇒ (20) + 35 - 5 = 501d20 + 30 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 30 - 5 = 431d20 + 25 - 5 ⇒ (4) + 25 - 5 = 241d20 + 20 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 20 - 5 = 32

Crit?: 1d20 + 35 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 35 - 5 = 384d6 + 126 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 2) + 126 = 139

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

AOOs if the elementals came within reach: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (5) + 28 = 331d20 + 28 ⇒ (11) + 28 = 392d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 2) + 16 = 192d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 4) + 16 = 21

Terana closes her own wounds with a touch and then moves confidently past the elementals to close in on the general.

"Face me in single combat then General. Unless you are afraid!"

LoH: 7d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 4, 2, 6, 3) = 29 Gives me prot evil so I'm hoping the elementals are summoned and therefore get no AOOs!

Smite Evil vs. Rashimos: 1d20 + 35 ⇒ (7) + 35 = 422d6 + 16 + 32 ⇒ (6, 2) + 16 + 32 = 56

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana finds the room supremely creepy, but Simon has not let her down yet so she trusts him and follows him through the 'crowds'.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana shakes her head in agreement. "I suspect the corpse remains for study. Some things are not meant to be known in the end, knowledge is power but power corrupts. A lesson that we must learn. Only beauty lasts forever."

She seems melancholy, but as the gates open she visibly shakes herself and prepares for the battles to come.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana fights back, hitting much harder than Harighal!

Glaive, PA: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (4) + 25 = 291d20 + 20 ⇒ (17) + 20 = 371d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 321d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 31 ⇒ (4, 6) + 31 = 412d6 + 31 ⇒ (2, 6) + 31 = 392d6 + 31 ⇒ (1, 3) + 31 = 352d6 + 31 ⇒ (3, 5) + 31 = 39

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana too, knows exactly what she needs to do - cut it down. He first blow is a little weak, but the second strikes with the force of a lightning bolt.

Glaive: 1d20 + 23 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 23 + 2 = 321d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 18 + 2 = 401d20 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 13 + 2 = 291d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 2 = 11
Damage: 2d6 + 31 ⇒ (1, 1) + 31 = 332d6 + 31 ⇒ (5, 4) + 31 = 402d6 + 31 ⇒ (4, 6) + 31 = 412d6 + 31 ⇒ (5, 6) + 31 = 42

Crit: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 20 = 394d6 + 62 ⇒ (6, 3, 3, 1) + 62 = 75

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana's feelings on the subject are similar to Victrix so she simply moves into place, preventing the mezlan from easily backing away and prepares to stab him.

Not sure how big the room is, so assuming I double move to get onto his other side/behind him.

AOO if provoked, PA, Flank: 1d20 + 23 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 23 + 2 = 372d6 + 31 ⇒ (4, 6) + 31 = 41

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana nods her thanks to Valentin and moves to guard the door while the spellcasters examine the rest of the room. She can't shake the nagging feeling that something is horribly wrong, and that they just might be too late...

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana does indeed pull back from her foes, closing her wounds with a touch and fighting on!

Ref: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28
LoH: 7d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 5, 1, 3, 6, 4) = 24

Glaive: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (7) + 23 = 301d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 351d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 211d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

AOO: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (3) + 28 = 312d6 + 16 ⇒ (3, 4) + 16 = 23

Terana slices at the male mezlan as he closes in and, after taking a blow herself, applies her glaive with more force!

Glaive, PA: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (13) + 23 = 361d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 261d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 271d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 172d6 + 31 ⇒ (5, 5) + 31 = 412d6 + 31 ⇒ (1, 1) + 31 = 332d6 + 31 ⇒ (3, 4) + 31 = 382d6 + 31 ⇒ (5, 3) + 31 = 39

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Since passive aggressive methods have not worked, Terana resorts to actively aggressive methods instead!

Glaive: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (10) + 28 = 382d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 3) + 16 = 20

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Reflex: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30

Terana somehow avoids the worst of the lightning despite being dressed in a full suit of armor and Valentin closes the rest of the damage within moments. Unwilling to use violence when another way might present itself Terana waits, her glaive ready.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana doesn't even get a chance to swing before Ema has zapped the clockworks into oblivion, so she keeps guard while the rest of the group patch themselves up.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana nods and follows Victrix, she doesn't care much either way.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana stacks books as instructed, and grins when the whole thing folds up and can be carried just as easily as before. "I love magic!" She says with a grin.

I'd not have a negative perception score anymore... Valentin should have it.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"I'll look for Ioun Stones." Terana offers and sets to work on a thorough search.

Take 20 at every opportunity, for 19's! :D

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

I get it whenever I use Lay on Hands, so if I need it I can have it. :)

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana's AC while smiting is 35 so no hits. Valentin can keep his magic.

Shelyn's divine power protects her servant and Terana sets to work.

Glaive, PA: 1d20 + 37 - 5 ⇒ (4) + 37 - 5 = 361d20 + 27 ⇒ (11) + 27 = 381d20 + 22 ⇒ (12) + 22 = 341d20 + 17 ⇒ (15) + 17 = 32

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Holy Damage I forgot: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana walks past Axlorl as though she's heading for the nearest bookcase and then suddenly whirls and cuts sharply at him with her glaive.

Smite: 1d20 + 30 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 30 + 7 = 482d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 1) + 16 = 22

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Interpreting Simon's nudge correctly Terana looks at the man, engaging both her magical senses.

Evil, then Aberrations.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"As long as I don't put it in my scabbard it should be fine." Terana agrees, folding the item small and securing it under her breastplate. "Let's push on. Every minute we waste is a minute longer for the veiled master to arrive."

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana seems rather keen on the helmet, but the other items are of little interest to her.

"How do I look?" She asks, trying the silver and gold headwear on.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"Slow down." Terana says, laying a gauntleted hand as gently as she can on the arcanist's shoulder. "Tell me about your father, anything you can remember. It may be that Lurisian is mistaken, or that we met some sort of imposter."

Although he was no aberration. She thinks, but doesn't say.

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"Are you ok Ema?" Terana asks, addressing the Tarrasque in the room. "That was some pretty harsh stuff to be said about your father."

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

"Why would Jazradan unleash it?" Terana asks, rather disturbed by that insinuation. "Can we destroy it somehow?"

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana takes a long step, trying to interpose herself between Simon and the creatures.

Glaive: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (12) + 29 = 411d20 + 24 ⇒ (6) + 24 = 301d20 + 19 ⇒ (9) + 19 = 281d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana strides forwards. "Hey, try this on for size!"

Glaive: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (8) + 29 = 371d20 + 24 ⇒ (8) + 24 = 321d20 + 19 ⇒ (8) + 19 = 271d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

Terana does as she is told, Ema is the expert here and she's learned to trust experts. Much as everyone should trust her when it comes to dicing aboleths!

RETIRED - divine guardian of the Compass (Ruins of Azlant)

The safe one with fluffy bunnies?

I'll like Ema pick.
