I am running the Rise of Rune Lords campaign in Pathfinder 1 and would like to share a change I introduced to the campaign.
In my opinion the 7 deadly sins is a overused theme, as a result, I have been trying to imagine the values of an ancient Magocracy to try to create a different fresher feeling. In my campaign, the number that combines Thassilonian vices and virtues is the number 9.
If you think about it, it's is a highly symbolic number and the motto I created is:
"Nine the natures of man. (the alignments)
Nine the virtues of the wise (virtues of rule)
Nine the great spheres of magic (divination should stay!)
As nine, the lords of the Empire" (9 provinces my dears)
I know, the spheres of magic are 8, the ninth school can be is the universal school, which is the prerogative of the Emperor.
Here is the list of the 9 virtues and vices in order of importance and divided into 3 triads.
------------
9 Virtues
Beauty
Courage
Authenticity
Order
Justice
Compassion
Creativity
Perseverance
EXCELLENCE
----------
9 Vices
Ignorance
Sloth
Gluttony
Wrath
Lust
Envy
Ignavia*
Avarice
PRIDE
-----------
Such a system involves the creation of two new provinces, but in any case the campaign only remotely addresses the provinces beyond Bakrakhan and Shalast so it should not be a problem
*I don't know how to translate this sin (described by dante) in English, it is neither sloth nor indolence. It is about people who during their lives have never acted either for good or evil, never daring to have an idea of their own, and to make decisions based on their own principles, and who have limited themselves to always conforming to the ideas and decisions of the strongest.
