D&D Luminary Jim 'Drawmij' Ward Passes Very sad to hear. Rest in Peace.
Richard Lewis, Comedian and ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Star, Dies at 76 Sad to hear. He was very funny. Rest in Peace.
One of my coworkers turned me on to the trailer for this show. It just so happened to be the same day the show dropped on Netflix, so I gave it a shot. It was entertaining, but VERY predictable. There were at least three or four major plot points I saw coming a mile away….. Spoiler:
That the eldest brother was still alive. That he’d joined the enemy. And that he’d become the new enemy leader. They telegraphed that stuff a mile away.
Also that the new assistant at the brewery would be a ninja of some kind. And that the politician from the beginning was secretly a member of the villain organization. Once they revealed the scroll the bad guys were trying to recover was a family tree, it was pretty clear it would show her. The only characters I truly liked were Soichi and Grandma (my favorite). Soichi was mostly just trying to keep his family safe, determined that at least one of his children would grow up as “normal”. When he realized that wasn’t to be, however, he manned up and did his job. And he was badass. Grandma I loved. She was funny, mysterious, and a bit cantankerous. And it seemed like most everyone was terrified of her (with good reason). Nevertheless, I enjoyed the show. The story was decent. The action was plentiful. They had some good bits of humor. And I read somewhere where someone thought it was an at least spiritual sequel to an old Sonny Chiba TV series. Which is cool. Anyway, for anyone who likes ninjas, I recommend it. Only 8 episodes.
Apparently, Lumley died earlier this year, back at the beginning of January. I know a lot of people disliked his Cthulhu myth is stories. To be honest, I’m one of them, although I still enjoyed them to a degree. I was a fan of his other work, however. Especially his Necroscope series, which I saw as an interesting variation on the vampire myth. And I liked a lot of his short stories. Anyway, his stories brought me a lot of enjoyment over the years. Rest in peace.
Toby Keith, Country Music Star Who Sang ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy,’ Dies at 62 An entertaining musician, great supporter of military service members, and seemed to be a pretty cool dude. Rest in Peace. Also screw you, cancer.
Carl Weathers, ‘Rocky’s’ Apollo Creed and ‘Mandalorian’ Actor, Dies at 76 A wonderful actor. Rest in Peace, Action Jackson.
Harry Connick Sr, longtime New Orleans DA and singer's dad, dead at 97 Father of the more well known singer/actor. He was a fairly talented musician as well. I even saw him perform once.
‘Star Trek’ Actor Gary Graham Passes Away At 73 Years Old I never watched him in Star Trek, but I recall him from the Alien Nation TV show. Rest in Peace.
Cindy Morgan Dies: ‘Caddyshack’ And ‘Tron’ Actress Was 69 She may not have been the greatest actress, but I liked her well enough. Might have to watch Tron tonight in her honor. Rest in Peace.
Tom Wilkinson, 'The Full Monty' actor, dead at 75 Sad to hear. He was a solid actor. I liked him as Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins, and as Cornwallis in The Patriot. I also recall he had a small role in The Ghost and The Darkness.
I’d heard about this show here and there, but after The Critical Drinker praised it I decided to give it a try. I’m only two episodes in, but I’m glad I did. It’s a great series so far. The animation is fantastic. The voice cast is impressive (including the always magnificent George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Kenneth Brannagh). The story is set in the Edo Period, when Japan was closed off to foreigners, and follows a half-white/half-Japanese female samurai in her quest for revenge against her white father. It’s the type of story I’ve really come to enjoy over the last several years - that mix of history and fiction. The main characters are all really interesting, with compelling storylines. The writing is really good, introducing the major story and various characters with a minimal of fuss. As previously stated, the animation is really awesome. I would encourage everyone to watch this great series.
Andre Braugher, 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' actor, dead at 61 Sad to hear. He was a good actor. If I recall correctly, he was my second favorite voice of Darkseid.
They released a teaser a while back, but here’s the first full trailer. It looks interesting. My kids and I have enjoyed the other movies, so will probably watch this one when it hits streaming.
Renowned Hollywood Producer Marty Krofft Dead At 86 He helped create some great shows. Rest in Peace.
Trailer for the animated adaptation In the past, DC has done adequate to damned good with their animated adaptations of comic stories. So I might be cautiously optimistic about this one. The dude voicing the Monitor sounded so familiar to me I had to look him up. He also did the voice of Tyrael in Diablo 3.
’Friends' star Matthew Perry dead at 54 Again, I’m sad to hear about this. He was very funny. My wife was a huge fan of the show.
’Night Court’ actor Richard Moll dead at 80 Sad to hear. I also liked him in House. And, of course, as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Batman: The Animated Series.
Richard Roundtree, star of the original 'Shaft,' dies at 81
Such a wonderful actor. Rest in Peace.
I recall there are a lot of folk around here who like the old Gargoyles cartoon. I was already well out of high school when it came out, so it wasn’t my thing. Anyway…. I’d imagine they mean “live action” in the same way The Lion King remake was “live action”, at least as far as the titular winged, roof top folk are concerned.
Actress Suzanne Somers dead at 76 She fought against that damned cancer for years. Rest in Peace.
Piper Laurie, three-time Oscar-nominated star of 'Carrie' and 'The Hustler', dies at 91 A fantastic actress. Not sure how many of the younger folk around here will know of her.
David McCallum, 'NCIS' actor, dead at 90 Sad to hear. The wife and I always liked him back when we used to watch NCIS.
Trailer for the new Netflix show Not what I was expecting, given the title. Still, it looks like it could be pretty cool, and I haven’t been terribly disappointed in any of the other Flanagan shows I’ve seen.
Legendary musician Jimmy Buffett dead at 76: 'Lived his life like a song til the very last breath' Very sad to hear this. I always loved his music. Glad I got to see him in concert at least one time. Rest in Peace, and hopefully enjoy a cheeseburger in Paradise.
Dark Forces Remaster Announced for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch I never played the original, but heard it was pretty cool.
Arleen Sorkin, 'Days of Our Lives' star, dead at 67 Also the original voice of Harley Quinn - something for which I both admire and dislike her for, but only because that voice was like nails on a chalkboard for me. It’s the main reason I dislike the character to this day.
BOB BARKER, LONGTIME HOST OF 'THE PRICE IS RIGHT' AND ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST, DIES AT 99 Rest in Peace, sir! I remember one of my grandmother’s happiest days was getting all the way to the Showcase Showdown with you as host.
I was in the mood to watch TV the other night, and found this movie on Netflix. It was entertaining, with a solid cast. Russell Crowe was pretty good as the priest. And it was cool seeing Franco Nero play the Pope. Anyway, after watching it I couldn’t help but think the plot would make a good D&D adventure. With some modifications.
Apple TV+ Reveals First ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Images Sounds interesting. I especially like the idea of Kurt and Wyatt Russell playing the same character at different ages. Sadly, I don’t have AppleTV, and don’t plan to get it.
I hadn’t been aware this was a thing until I saw an article about 150 members of the crew being laid off due to ongoing Hollywood shenanigans. The original is one of my favorite movies, and the sequel was pretty decent. So I’m interested to see where they go with this. From the brief synopsis I saw, it seems kind of a reverse of the original, with a program’s adventures in the real world. If the synopsis stays accurate….
Eagles founding member Randy Meisner dead at 77 Sad to hear. He was a great musician with one of the all time greatest bands.
Irish musician Sinéad O'Connor dead at 56 I wasn't a big fan of her music, but she seemed very talented. Rest in Peace.

Couldn't live withoutQuijenoth —I subscribed to many of Paizo's Subscriptions when they first started and I'm the proud owner of the first 5 Adventure paths. However a recent move to a bigger house due to an expanding family required me to cut back on a few things. I dropped all but the Pathfinder RPG subscriptions at the time. Now I'm more financially stable its time to pick back up what I love the most. After looking over the products, once I'd dusted them off from their box storage from the move, I made a decision to resub back into the Adventure Path series. Simply put, the contents, detail, and re-usability of these campaigns is second to none. I will be kicking off my subscription with Jade Regent as soon as its available. |
