Imho, the evolutionist, nanocyte and vanguard are some of the best designed (especially the nanocyte) classes, with lots of player choice and agency. Pools of points (surges, etc.) make for more fun classes to play. I hope 2E class design philosophy follows this model. Looking forward to the PDF.

Starfinder's Downtime system is AWESOME. It seemed like a missed opportunity in the remaster to not include a similar system. Hoping for something in an upcoming release.

Since theoretically the redesign is not complete, here are my two coppers.

Don't remove Int modifier to damage. Casters already play second fiddle to martials in this edition. Damage output is not on par.

Have *many, many more* 1 action spell options. Giving players 3 actions, but requiring two actions for 95% of the spells isn't giving players 3 actions. It just isn't.

Get rid of monster saving throws; give them ACs to hit so casters can use hero points to "reroll" just like martials get. Otherwise saving throw inducing characters are second class citizens, and have reduced player agency.

When PF2 came out I felt a leaping of joy in my heart for wizards, my favorite 3.5 class; then I've watched them played and shook my head in sadness.

When I heard wizards are getting remastered, and saw the proposed changes are actually nerfing them by removing Int mod to damage, I shook my head in sadness again.

Please do this right, Paizo, I know you can, you've done many other things right.

Wishes: Keep EAC/KAC, Resolve System, Stam/HP system, Downtime system, weapon fusions. Starship combat - every one rolls an attack roll every round; starship weapon damage is based on the number of hits, i.e. 3 players hit, they each roll their 2d6 damage, add it up. All character classes have combat abilities, exploration abilities and downtime abilities unique to their classes, and perhaps have some choices too. Also, weapon fusions are brilliant, keep it.

Concerns are: abandoning Stam/hp system means heals fall on one class again. The brilliance of the Stam/hp split between envoy and mystic is a keeper. Please don't abandon it. Resolve brought incredible player agency into the SF game; don't abandon it, it is too good to let go. Classes like the vanguard, evolutionist and nanocyte are really well designed, with terrific player agency and choices. Those should be the inspiration for the redesigns.

EAC/KAC; Resolve System; Stam/HP system; Downtime system. I also love the weapon fusion system. PF2 has magic runes, which is similar, but I like the wider variety of fusions available in SF.

I think Pathfinder Remaster should look to incorporating the Stamina / HP Resolve system of Starfinder as a key component. SF2E should keep it as well.

I think it's the better of the two systems, and should be adopted going forward. The uses of resolve in Starfinder represent wonderful player agency, and also should see adoption. The myriad options for Downtime should also be included in SF2E, and perhaps also be included in GM Core.

As an aside, fighters need an overhaul, big-time. They are an unbalanced class, critting at least 13% more often than any other class. Drop their advantage to 5%, give maneuver bonuses. They have hero points on their side as opposed to casters imposing saves. Attack of opportunity should do level, or level and strength dmg, or base weapon die, but not full. Not enough focus on being good at combat maneuvers. Add reposition. Do strength damage on successful maneuvers. Those changes bring the fighter in balance with other classes.

I hope SF2E sees casters on par with martials, including many more one-action spell options.

Thanks for bringing great games forth, Paizo.

Radius bursts, if that IS what Supernova is, originate from a corner of your space, not 10' from your square, but from a corner of your square that you choose. That means the wording "10' from you" is not accurate, and it too easily misiniterpreted.

This is a major FAQ candidate.

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.
Pathfinder Adventure, Rulebook, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber

Supernova is technically, RAW, not a radius effect, although it does say all creatures within 10 feet of you.

That means a Medium Solarian has a 12.5' radius?, while Large Solarian extends their Supernova out to 15' radius?, Huge Solarian extends their Supernova out at a 20' radius?, etc.

A) Should Supernova be treated as a radius effect? Especially given the complications of different-sized creatures having different size radius effects?

B) Since Distant Burst can only be used with revelations that have a radius effect, and Supernova, RAW, doesn't have a specified radius, does it still work?

C) If the intent IS for Supernova to work with Distant Burst, will the Errata be updated to reflect that? And do larger creatures get a larger area of effect? That seems a bit unfair.

As you can see, the interactions of these two abilities do create some issues that need clarification.

Actually, I'm playing a construct companion inventor, 5th level, and paid the feat tax to try and keep my companion useful in melee, but it just simply can't keep up.

Compare it at +11 to hit; when a fighter can get +18, and other classes get +16. That's just not viable, period. With no ways to boost attack, like other classes get potency, the construct companion is just completely not on par. Too, way many misses.

Failing your unstable locks out other abilities (hazardous repair, searing restoration, etc) and too easy to crit fail, doing damage to self.

While the class has some flavor, that flavor is backed up by awful mechanics and a non-viable progression, which can even punish a player frequently, just for making choices that utilize the feats it chose.

It's clear to me this class sub-choice didn't get the same treatment as other core classes in terms of balance. It certainly doesn't look playtested. It's been my only major disappointment of PF2E, and hope it gets some severe improvements in a new errata.

Please clarify this then - what is an example of negative healing in action? What is something that "is healed by negative effects that heal undead?" What is a negative effect that heals undead?

Did anyone posting in this thread bother to read what the negative trait is?

Because the necrotic bombs' negative trait "heals undead creatures with negative energy" and dhampirs receive

negative healing: "dhampir is healed by negative effects that heal undead."

The Negative trait on the bomb heals.

Dhampir

"You have the negative healing ability, which means you are harmed by positive damage and healed by negative effects as if you were undead."

Negative Healing
"A creature with negative healing draws health from negative energy rather than positive energy. It is damaged by positive damage and is not healed by positive healing effects. It does not take negative damage, and it is healed by negative effects that heal undead."

Undead (trait)
Undead creatures are damaged by positive energy, are healed by negative energy, and don't benefit from healing effects.

Necrotic bomb:
A necrotic bomb deals the listed negative damage

The Negative trait, which is on necrotic bomb, says this: Negative
Effects with this trait heal undead creatures with negative energy, deal negative damage to living creatures, or manipulate negative energy.

RAW, clear to me that necrotic bombs heal dhampirs.

Still no clear answer, huh? Using Eric N.'s sidebar for gliminal reference, here's how I'm planning to propose it to GMs at whose Society table I'm playing. Bombing myself would need an attack roll; if it missed, I could allow it to hit. If it critically missed it wouldn't heal. If I hit, I could make it crit. Would critically hitting double the heal? It sure seems like it. Please click FAQ. This seems to exploitable.

Agreed. Paizo should be looking to make at least half of their released scenarios repeatables, otherwise why award ACPs that you never get to use in non-repeatable adventures? Since the release schedule has slowed, the repeatable tag should be HIGH priority. IMHO.

Those of you looking for a rebuild of the Oliphaunt (since its power core is only for small ships, and the Oliphaunt is a medium; plus the overspent PCU/BP problems with all combat systems), I've built one that accurately follows the starship building rules here. The lowered thrusters make sense, imho, as its a cargo hauler.

Oliphaunt (Tier 3)

Medium transport

Speed 8 (M8 Thrusters); Maneuverability average (turn 2); Drift 2

AC 11; TL 13

HP 70; DT n/a; CT 14

Shields Light 80 (forward 20, port 20, starboard 20, aft 20)

Attack (Forward) high explosive missile launcher (4d8, 20 hexes, limited fire 5)

Attack (Turret) chain cannon (6d4, 5 hexes, ripper)

Power Core(s) Arcus Heavy (130 PCU); Drift Engine Signal Booster; Systems budget medium-range sensors, crew quarters (common), mk 1 armor, mk 3 defences, basic computer (tier 1); Expansion Bays arcane laboratory, tech workshop, cargo hold (2)

Modifiers ; Complement 5

There really shouldn't be any debate though. The writing is very clearly defined. Those making up nebulous notions about whether your previous action wasn't actually your previous action certainly have no merit, with the way it's currently worded. I don't think you can reasonably nerf it without needing errata. It's just too clearly worded.

The requirement is: Your most recent action was to Cast a Spell or Spellstrike.

As long as you haven't take a reaction (which would be your most recent action), it appears, RAW, that if you had finished your last round by casting a 2 action spell, that you could use that as the qualifier for Arcane Cascade in the new round.
