Hey, guys. Been a while. I just thought I'd throw you folks a line and apologize for essentially just vanishing on you a few months back. My laptop more or less bricked itself, and then there was a pretty weird upheaval in my personal life that made me forget about forums in general for a bit. By the time I got a new computer, I didn't have any bookmarks or anything and pretty much just spaced on the fact that I was in games at all, which is not my brightest moment, but there it is.

Regardless, though, those are all basically just excuses, and I feel pretty bad about it. Dropping out is one thing (life happens), but just disappearing without a word is far worse, and not really excusable. Things have settled down a bit for me, and I found myself thinking about joining a new game, at which point my brain twinged and reminded me I'd been a huge unintentional jerk to you folks, so...anyway, I wasn't looking to rejoin the game or anything (that feels like it would be a huge unnecessary disruption to what you've got going on), but I felt like you deserved some small apology, and there you have it, such as it is. Keep on being evil, and have fun!

Have fun, guys, but know this! One day, I'll show you; show you all!

Alrighty then. With what is (hopefully) the last of my rebuilds, Sholano is complete once again.

As part of the change, at Lady Rose's (Doomed Hero's) urging, I have tanked my Wisdom rather than my Strength, thus ensuring that neither she nor Sholano can spot a trap worth a damn, but we both can disable the hell out of it. We figure if we've got someone with decent eyes on the team, either Sholano can walk up and turn off the trap, or Rose can just let it explode in her face and not care. Either way, teamwork!

Also, I can walk around with actual armor instead of my stupid leather, so that's nice.

Okay, confirmed: Sholano is now a Vigilante/Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil). Interestingly, his party role remains virtually the same, but he's replacing some of his damage for debuffs and a suite of spells.

(Plus a further bonus to Bluff! Hah!)

Hey, no worries, makes sense to me. Given that, I think it's time to go a little more efficient and pull out a couple stops. I'm gonna check on the numbers a bit, but it's more likely than not that Sholano's second class is going to go Mesmerist, with the Vexing Daredevil archetype.

Cardinal A. Thorn wrote:

Kevlar You are fine now. Simple mistake.

Sholano Sneak attack in gestalt does not stack. You take the best progression. You might be better off to go with avenger and get full BAB + rogue sneak attack.

Sneak attack doesn't, but it was my understanding that Hidden Strike was distinct from Sneak Attack. It specifically doesn't count as the same for feats and whatnot (per the Serial Killer archetype which causes it to do so), so I thought they would stack separately as well. If you'd rather that not be the case, or if I was just plain wrong, fair enough, no big deal, but that was my understanding.

Presuming they don't stack up, I'll need to re-examine Rogue as my off class, probably going back to Swashbuckler.

Alright then, Sholano is all ready to go, mechanically. I still need to tweak his last few pieces of equipment a bit (any rogue worth his salt needs to be well-prepared, after all), but he is now set to go as a newly-minted Vigilante/Rogue.

While the class switch leaves the character's backstory and play largely untouched, there are a few minor differences.
First, the existence of his new dual identity means he can more firmly separate the idea of his Pretender pseudonym from his own more direct adventuring work with the party, and in another few levels, he'll split off to have a third, more mundane identity. The lines between what constitutes 'identity' get a little blurred when you have two personas who both dissemble and disguise as a matter of course (especially one he begins his currently-planned prestige class of Master Spy), but I'm fairly confident that it can be done, given his strong Disguise skills and disgustingly good ability to Bluff. Eventually, he'll even start to gain some Renown, growing more and more famous even as he gains a greater ability to hide away as he chooses.
Second, the loss of his swashbuckling ability for swordplay and the addition of his talent for the hidden strike means he is even more firmly in favor of ambush tactics than he ever was. He'll probably spend a lot of time trying to delay any given combat by a few rounds while convincing the enemy he's secretly been on their side the whole time, but when that doesn't work out, there's always the good old acrobat and flank.
As far as party role goes, he obviously remains strongest as the face man, with a pretty strong sideline in trapfinding and the like. He's also turning out to be a surprisingly strong striker, between his dual precision damages and eventual Dex to damage. He's never going to be a front line tank, but his ability to Intimidate and generally confuse/terrify with fantastical wordplay never fails to entertain, and as time goes on, Vigilante talents like Pull Into the Shadows and Expose Weakness will give him increasing versatility on the battlefield.

I noticed Rose earlier pointing out some classic archetypes she could fill, and the idea tickled me, so here's a few Sholano can fit the bill for.
Left to his own devices, Sholano would absolutely be an Affably Evil Gentleman Thief, but since his plans are getting a little more grandiose while hanging out with the Cardinal and Company, he'll be a little more like the False Friend to our foes. In a fight, he absolutely loves to run his mouth, as in "You Fight Like a Cow!" Eventually, I envision him becoming our very own Spymaster.

Ooooookay, so after some chatting with Doomed Hero today, I will absolutely be going Vigilante/Rogue rather than Rogue/Swashbuckler. Less flashy swordplay, far more vile trickery, and rounds when people aren't ready for me yet, I'll tag them with both Sneak Attack and Hidden Strike and basically murder them.

I'm actually really excited about this, you guys.
*fades into shadows*
*STARTLING REAPPEARANCE*
Wa-pow!

Solid.

Slowly editing my stats to better reflect this game, and while checking on my traits, I came across my drawback, Paranoid. I'd previously asked a GM if I could have a drawback, and he was cool with it if I didn't want the extra trait. Would I be able to hang on to it in this one as well? I just like having Sholano's general distrust of everything having some mechanical representation.

Cardinal A. Thorn wrote:
Sholano Customising the feats for each individual person chosen is something I will do with people if they are chosen so don't worry.

Alrighty then. In that case, I'd definitely go with either Infiltrator or Rival, whichever is more interesting story-wise. Heck, under the right circumstances, it could even be entertaining to be Rivals with one of the other PCs! We'd have to tone down some of the "Thwarting you becomes an all-consuming goal for your rival" stuff, but in a friendlier way, competing for the Cardinal's (or even Asmodeus') favor could be a lot of fun.

As for my story feat, it will definitely be something very like Infiltrator, but it will have to be modified a little, I think.

Actually, now I think about it, Rival could work as well, with a little extra effort. It could be Sylvia, or one of my brothers, or even Treblefast, if events work out in a particularly odd way.

Cardinal A. Thorn wrote:

Viscount K Have to get you to go Paizo unchained rogue. I have no access to legendary games' classes sorry.

No problem at all. It was basically just an alternate to trapfinding and some different options for my rogue talents; easy to switch back, if sad. I'll be taking up the Rake archetype in its place.

Lady Rose wrote:

Doomed Hero here with my submission.

Rose is a character I played in three other WotW games, none of which made it farther than 5th level.

Her concept requires a little GM approval (she's the Cardinal's daughter).

Hah; hello again, Rose. Let's see if we can get into a little more trouble than that first game we played, shall we? I'd hate to disappoint your father a second time.

Hey, so my computer finally had its final meltdown this last week. I should have my replacement arriving shortly, but posting from my phone is officially the most annoying thing in the world, so you can go ahead and bot me for a couple more days, if you don't mind.

Sorry it seems like I'm just bouncing from reason to reason when it comes to not posting; I guess life's been kinda weird to me lately. I promise I'll get more on it.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano froze, watching Erick's reckless behavior with horror.

You've got to be kidding me.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

It's not like I'm exactly building a combat goon over here, but yeah, it'd be nice to at least have a positive modifier.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano stood a few steps behind, allowing Marvin to take the lead on the search, but running his own careful eye over the pedestal nonetheless.

You can never be too careful, after all.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

*sigh* 0 damage on the initial attack. Man, I can't *wait* for Dex to damage to kick in next level.

Sholano scowled, letting his irritation show now the squire was out of the picture again. He quick-stepped to the snake's other side, putting it firmly between himself and Marvin, then lashed out with his blade, hoping that the thing would at least allow itself to be distracted by opponents surrounding it.

5-foot adjust SE (which for some reason my new laptop is hating letting me do to the map, sorry), attack w/flanking (presumably)

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Sholano dove into the room, popping back to his feet in the wake of Martin's blast of fire. He took up a classic fencer's pose and flicked his blade towards the snake's head in a calculated ruse designed to throw the blasted thing off its guard long enough for him to find a gap in its defenses.

Feint: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

Sorry I kinda disappeared over the weekend, folks: the play I'm in just got started, and my brain went more or less dead while recovering from the run-up to opening night. I forgot about games entirely. Anyway, we're open and into the run now, so I should be basically conscious again.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano, not bothering to check the door for anything untoward, nodded toward Zyxtyvia. "True enough. Onward, son. We're right here."

A few steps back, sure, but right here nonetheless.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano nodded approvingly at the squire. "Well said, lad. Lead the way."

Just realized I never added an extra language known after adding a rank in Linguistics at level up. Going with Draconic, if there's no objection. Next level he'll start pestering folks to make up our own secret language, or at least learn Drow Hand Sign.

Sholano's head cocked to the side ever so slightly at the boy's concise description of the dungeon's threats.

That was...precise. I wouldn't have thought a mere squire's discipline would hold up under these circumstances.

Sense Motive - is he only what he seems?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

I just wanted to note that while Sholano may be deeply irritated with Erick, his incompetently-earnest helper/psycho killer schtick is amusing the heck out of me.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano also tries to dodge direct lies, when it's easy enough to do so - always better to keep the web simple, when you can. Obviously, though, he has no problem whatsoever lying his butt off from time to time. ;)
As for Balin, I expect Sholano's heard of him (gotta keep tabs on the law), but per my capture story, there just wasn't a whole lot of need for them to bring in a high ranking knight.

Sholano nodded along with Celestine, practically radiating an aura of paternal care and concern. "Once you've told us all you can, you can come along with us. We can always use another brave heart."

They always make the best meat shields.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano waited quietly behind the others, observing from just inside the shadows of the doorway as he tried to get a bead on the real skill of his new partners. Celestine's attempt to convert the young man directly was undeniably artful, if perhaps a bit less subtle than the approach Sholano himself would have tried.

Not bad, not bad at all...pushed a touch hard on the threat, maybe, but not so hard that it's broken the kid. Just a little nudge from another direction, and then - oh, Hells.

Erick spoke up, then, doing what seemed like his best to help. Sholano suppressed the urge to put his hand over his face, instead reaching up to swiftly adjust the ear cuff he'd coaxed the disguising circlet he'd been issued to appear as. His fine clothing, layered over the leather armor beneath, shimmered and changed. It became a silver vest of chainmail emblazoned with a symbol very like that of the Talingarde military, with a few small alterations. On a close examination, it would appear to be of a similar order, allowing for a plausible shift of words to dodge any direct questions about it.

Disguise: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (2) + 23 = 25

Passing Celestine with a quick, subtle roll of the eyes at Erick that seemed to say may as well go with it, he stepped up to the eager strangler, placing a hand on his shoulder. "There's no need for that, soldier," he said, an air of confidence and righteousness infusing his words. "I'm sure the lad will tell us anything we need to know and more. He looks like the courageous sort, I'm sure he'd be glad to come along and help us navigate this maze of villainy." He faced Timeon. "Isn't that right, squire?"

Bluff: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26
Diplomacy: assist?: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Gr. Can't roll for crap. Still, he can't be all that bright, yeah?

Agh, this is so Sholano's favorite thing, this was a terrible time for me to be out of touch. Booo! Ah, well, here we go.

Also - "she prefers the idea of a silver-tongued devil who can gain everything the righteous lose"? Celestine and Sholano are gonna get along juuuuust fine. Sholano is utterly convinced that the art of manipulation is the best and surest road to getting one's goals met, and is pretty used to judging basically everyone by that benchmark. Celestine's passing the test. (Sidebar - since she's apparently a worthy opponent, in their downtime, he may well end up hitting on her more than I actually bother narrating. Sorry! He's kinda a jerk!)

When it comes to situations like this, he may be a little bit better at the talky game than her, but she's right up there with him, especially if/when she can back it up with magic. He'll definitely recognize that fact. We'll just need to have a quiet word with some of the others to let us do our chatty thing in situations like this, then get to work on tag-teaming potential marks. Sholano's gonna put forth an immediate fervent request that at least Celestine (and preferably everybody) learn Drow Sign Language, or even concoct their own version of some kind of thieves' cant. So much easier than trying to work in double-talk secret messages into every conversation.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Hey, guys, having some internet issues tonight. Posting from my phone is always kind of a mess, so... I'll probably be back to functional status tomorrow

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano cursed, giving up his hunt for flammable objects and dashing into the room, drawing one of his daggers as he did so. For all he knew, plain steel wouldn't hurt the thing at all, but it might at least keep it distracted.

Running wide around the thing to avoid attacks of opportunity, going to try and flank as much as possible with Eric.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Considering the situation for a moment, Sholano glanced at Erick, paralyzed by indecision, and tapped the burly maniac on the shoulder, offering up his lit torch. "Go get 'im, big guy! Fire looks like it does the trick. I'll be right behind you."

Eventually, he thought, beginning to rummage through his pack in search of something else to light ablaze. Can't believe I only brought one torch...!

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Ech. This is usually the kind of discussion I jump in on, but I am so unfamiliar with the Spheres system that I am useless.

[HP 16/16 | AC 20; T 14; FF 16; CMD 15 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will +2 | Init: 3; Perc: 6] Half-Elf Vigilante 2; Gestalt Mesmerist (Vexing Daredevil) 1

Sholano, watching the proceedings calmly, rummaged through his pack for a moment and dug out a wrapped torch.

"We'll see what we see once Marvin finishes his work. Planning for the unknown is always difficult. Still - can't hurt to take the warning literally," he said, lighting the torch with flint and steel from a pocket.

A-hem. Clearly, by 'later tonight' I meant 'two days later'. Sorry, I was basically playing catchup on work and whatnot after getting back.

Welp, unless we can spend some of that redistributed money, I think I'm good to go. I need to update my character sheet with all the new Legendary stuff, but I'm headed out of town tomorrow morning and I really need to pack right now.

Speaking of which: I'm headed out of town tomorrow! I will still have my laptop and (probably) internet access, but my free time will be at a premium, so don't be too surprised if I fall behind a bit in posting.

Oooookay, so the Legendary Rogue has a lot of amazingly thematic options. I'd definitely like to use some of the stuff in there, but I had some questions about how you wanted to implement them.

  • Since I'm an Unchained Rogue, did you want to do the recommended thing and make Skill Unlocks interchangeable with skill specialties, giving one or the other at 4th, 6th, and 16th in addition to the skill specialty at 1st?
  • Did you want to use any of the Skill Unlock features listed on page 5?
  • Once we hit the Rogues in Combat section, there's just a giant pile of extra bonuses they describe. Some they note are 'optional', but others not so much: I could list them each for your consideration, but there's seriously like a dozen, so...yeah. Which of those, if any, would you like to implement? Heck, would it make it easier if I just switched over to playing the Legendary Rogue outlined toward the back?

Things I'd want to start using immediately, assuming you're cool with them:

  • Ditching the Charlatan archetype (I haven't actually used any of the features granted, so I figure no big there).
  • Swapping out trapfinding for a skill specialty, starting out with the Pretender specialty.
  • I'd use avoidances instead of trap sense (starting with Unflinching at 3rd).
  • I like the idea of instincts, but I think I'd stick with Evasion, at least at second.
  • Definitely gonna be considering some of the new/improved talents. In fact, I would love to take Combat Ruse (to get Improved Feint sans prerequisites) and trade out my first level feat of Combat Expertise for Skill Focus (Bluff), or maybe Deceitful as a possible prereq for Master Spy.

Let's see... instead, I'll ditch the rapier, the acid, and...uh...oh, the glass cutter, the normal backpack and both sets of cards in an attempt to fit in the MW pack. Makes the list look like so:

    Equipment updated again:

    Disguise Kit (50)
    Grooming Kit (1)
    2 Spring-Loaded Wrist Sheaths (10)
    Pocketed Scarf (8)
    MW backpack (50)

    Folding pole (sp)
    Leather armor (10)
    50 ft silk rope (10)

    Rapier (20)

    Grooming Kit (1)
    2 Spring-Loaded Wrist Sheaths (10)
    Common backpack (2)
    Pocketed Scarf (8)
    Bedroll

    Torch
    Flint/Steel

    Folding pole
    Leather armor (10)
    50 ft silk rope (10)
    Flask of acid (10)
Total: 188 gold plus assorted silver/copper

I'd also like to see about selling off the chain shirt I swiped from Branderscar for a Masterwork backpack. I carry a lot of junk, but I'm kind of a wimp - downgrading to leather armor seems like a decent call until we're awesome enough to upgrade to mithral.

As for leveling up, I snagged a copy of the Legendary Rogues pdf, so while I've mostly updated Sholano to reflect an ordinary level up, I'm gonna peruse that this morning and see what if anything I want to pull out of there.

@Everyone: And, uh, any other votes on dividing loot into six or seven portions?

Whoop, sorry, missed that question. I'm in for seven ways. Looks like we've got a big ol' project ahead of us, and a group fund will probably prove to be necessary. If we didn't have one, every time we needed something for all of us to use (cure wands, building supplies, etc.), we'd end up slowing ourselves down by several posts while we divvied up who was paying for what.

That said, fair warning - Sholano is probably going to pretty regularly try and convince everyone that his personal expenses are for the good of the group. He'll even think he's right! =P

How much money to make up the difference? And sadly, I have no idea what's going on with Legendary Rogues, but it sounds like I'll bet I want a bunch of stuff in there! I'll look it up.

And finally for the moment, I just want to note that there shouldn't be any big surprises in Sholano's level up. Another level of Unchained Rogue, Charlatan style. I'll work out the mechanics tonight, but I don't have the time to work out all the numbers just now (spent too long working on other typing!). Oh, and how are we doing HP in this one (sorry if I missed it)?

Yeah, yeah. I dream big! =P (Also, I edited that last one to include some of my real request and a question)

    The Next Few Days

Once back in his chambers, Sholano took up the offered finery as if it was his due, sending back several combinations with requests for alterations and different styles or colors. In the meantime, he became thoroughly acquainted with the companion the Baron sent up - not exactly the most challenging conquest he'd ever had, to be sure, but then, Branderscar had been enough of a challenge to sate him for a while. The buxom little thing was actually somewhat fierier than he might have expected of a slavegirl, and they spent several pleasantly exhausting hours over the next few days.

At the servant's request for their preference in equipment, Sholano raised an eyebrow excitedly and immediately sat himself down with parchment and quill, scribbling out a lengthy list over the next few minutes, annotated with priority and assuming various levels of generosity. Handing it over to the servant, who looked at him with a nervous glance down at the extravagant series of requests, he waved the meek little man away impatiently.

I don't know if anybody else wants to do a reaction post to the Cardinal, but I'm noting my next actions with a separate OOC tag, and would love it if others to do the same (unless we're all moving on, of course) just so I can keep straight who's doing what when.

So, here's what Sholano asked for, just for amusement's sake:

    Mad Wishlist:
    MW Rapier
    MW Chain Shirt
    Handy Haversack, Main Pocket (77/80)
-Bottle of Fine Wine, 1.5 lbs
-1 Week Trail Rations, 7 lbs
    -Bedroll, 5 lbs
    -Small Tent, 20 lbs
    -Grooming Kit, 2 lbs
    -Disguise Kit, 8 lbs
    -Cards
    -Marked Cards
    -Dice
    -Superior Loaded Dice
    -Filter Hood, 4 lbs
    -One minute hourglass, .5 lb
    -Folding Ladder, 16 lbs
    -10 Tindertwigs
    -2x Antiplagues
    -2x Antitoxins
    -Ioun torch
    -2 Tanglefoot Bags, 8 lbs
    -Puzzle Box, 1 lb
    38 platinum
    52 gold
    32 silver
    18 copper

Handy Haversack, side pocket 1 (13/20)
    -MW Thieves' Tools, 2 lbs
    -Glass Cutter
    -Forger's Kit, 6 lbs
-50 ft. Silk Rope, 5 lbs

Handy Haversack, side pocket 2 (18/20)
    -6 Grappling Arrows, 3 lbs
-Quiver of 20 arrows, 3 lbs
    -Shortbow, 2 lbs
    -Folding Pole, 10 lbs

    Explorer's Outfit
    Pocketed Scarf
    2 Spring-Loaded Wrist Sheaths, 2 lbs
    -MW Dagger, 1 lb
    -MW Sap, 2 lbs

What he actually receives is probably much more humble, something like:

    More realistic plan:
    Rapier (20)
    Disguise Kit (50)
    Grooming Kit (1)
    2 Spring-Loaded Wrist Sheaths (10)
    2 Daggers (4)
    Common backpack (2)
    Pocketed Scarf (8)
    Bedroll
    Glass Cutter [5]

That actually only covers about a hundred gold, since I've got a quick question - the fine clothes we get from the Cardinal, are they fancy enough to meet the requirements of my Extremely Fashionable trait (150 gp worth), or do I need to blow some of my EQ request on bling?

As he took in the Cardinal's sweeping ambitions, Sholano's expression slowly changed from mild surprise and doubt to something resembling awe. His eyes practically danced as the disarming smile he'd spent years perfecting gave way to an easy malicious grin more genuine than anything he'd shown their little group so far.

"Princes, you say?" This was a game on a scale larger than the half-elf had yet encountered. No mere grab for wealth or manipulating some country lord's power, here was a chance to play with the strings of a whole nation. "Well, then, Your Eminence," he continued, giving a flourishing bow, "With such an interesting prize on the table..."

Rising, he gave the Cardinal his best conspiratorial smirk, the cheerful gadabout once more. "How could I refuse?"

After, Sholano took his time reading over the contract, making sure he understood every aspect as best he could. He felt a twinge of apprehension - binding oneself by an infernal contract should not be entered into lightly, after all - but eventually nodded. His thief's heart mourned at the fair dealing mentioned in the Third Loyalty, yet he quelled the feeling; a fair share of a dragon's hoard was far better than a full take of a beggar's cup.

Taking up the quill, he jabbed a small neat hole in the meat of his palm, letting the blood cover the nib of the quill. He signed with a flourishing script, marveling as he did so - this is the first contract he had ever signed with his own name, and also the first he ever intended to hold up his end of. He tapped the parchment with the quill, looking over the rest of the assembled crew. With a smirk, he swept them all, including the Cardinal, a grand bow. "Well then. Given the third clause, it seems only appropriate that we are all properly introduced. Sholano Gale, humble weaver of words and gatherer of treasures, at your service, my friends. May our association be a long one."

The slaves you've been given won't be yours permanently. They're meant to satisfy your more carnal urges and won't be coming with you once the plot advances.

That being said, if anyone wants to buy slaves, that CAN happen but will be difficult. It's not legal in Talingarde, for one thing. I'll also mention that this campaign allows (and encourages) PCs to take the Leadership Feat. It's modified to facilitate the creation of a guild/cult/etc or grant you several useful contacts throughout the country.

Yes. Most definitely, Sholano is all about the shadow organization dealy. Ex-TREME-ly picking up Leadership come 7th. Slaves...probably not so much with the slaves, most of the time. Not out of any particular moral issue, but more because it's damn hard to ensure the loyalty of folk who aren't there of their own free will.

Also, on the saved potion - that works fine for me! I actually escaped Branderscar relatively unscathed, so I'm fine with a dinky heal for now and saving some for later.
