One of my favorite characters in terms of diversity of options each round, and being a fun party contributor was a life link Oradin.

I like melee and combat options... could focus on ranged (better for a life-linker), but does anyone have any interesting Lifelink Oradin type builds?

So, in Carrion Crown my Magus is likely soon to be insane (the GM is using some 3rd party insanity rules), and my most likely replacement character will be Kendra Lorrimor, who recently hitched up with the party (We're in Chapter 4, Wake of the Watcher)

Here's how she was provided by the GM... I'd like to come up with a plan to level her after this that will make her fun and awesome...

Her Divining makes her great out of combat but want ideas that will make her a contributor in and out of combat,... while also following the story. She respected/admired the my Magus, so following in his footsteps makes some sense... and he's obsessed originally with storm based and electrical magics, but because of the campaign is now obsessed with necromancy. I could see her continuing to focus on divining, or put some energy into necromancy because of the magus AND her father's research. The magus has been toying with animating dead.

Level 7 - Diviner
Opposing School: Illusion, Evocation
Arcane Bond: Amulet

STR: 8
Dex: 12
Con: 12
Int: 17
Wis: 13
Cha 15

Feats:
Diviners Delving
Greater Spell Focus: Divination
Iron Will
Improved Iron Will
Scribe Scroll
Craft Wand
Spell Focus Divination

Spells
1: Charm Person, Ears of the City, Feather Fall, Identify, Liberating Command, Mage Armor, Memory Lapse, Windy Escape, Detect Secret Doors, Heightened Awareness, Hold Portal, Ray of Enfeeblement
2: Command Undead, Commune With Birds, Create Treasure Map, Demand Offering, See Invisibility, Detect Thoughts, Glitterdust
3. Blood Biography, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance, Suggestion, Hold Person, summon Monster III, Seek Thoughts, Slow
4: Charm Monster, Scrying, Enervation, Greater Invisibility, Mneomonic Enhancer

Magic Items
Amulet of Spell Cunning, Cloak of the Bat, Lessor Extend Metamagic Rod, Peal of Power X 2, Ring of Counter Spells (Magic Missle), Ring of Protection +1, Rod of Flame Extinguishing, Wand of Chill Touch, Wand of Command Undead, Wand of Suggestion

Given the severe lack of downtime in Carrion Crown, retraining and crafting time are limited.

Can someone point me to a thread about the math, or at least an explanation for why we start at -4 for proficiency? What's the reasoning for it.

Why not start at 0 for untrained, then boost as you gain... trained would be +4, etc. And just boost all the DC's by four? This seems so much more positive for the players. Instead of having a bunch of depression-inducing -4's, the character gains a boost (not just erases a negative) when they get trained.

I know that Paizo recently increased the gap between untrained and trained by reducing untrained from -2 to -4... and reduced some DCs. But couldn't we have done the same thing by upping untrained to +2... wouldn't even have had to lower DCs in that case.

Again, my objective here is to get pointed to a discussion on why the design decision to make "Trained" being +0 is important, why choose starting at -4.

I pretty much only play current season scenarios at PaizoCon... if I can just play 2-4 sessions, with my son... Level 6 druid, and Level 7 Paladin... what are the most recommended, or "must-play" scenarios?

Given this'll also likely be these characters' last foray before being obsoleted!

Clairaudience-Clairvoyance - from the spell, "but the locale must be known – a place familiar to you, or an obvious one"

A familiar place just needs to be within range, but what does "or an obvious one" mean.

If the character is outside of a building the've never been in and there is NO way to see inside it (or outside a door in a dungeon... no key hole)... is it an "obvious place" to just place the Clairaudience-Clairvoyance eye within the never-before-seen building.

If you see a ship in the harbor a couple hundred feet away... is inside the hull of the ship and obvious place, even though the diviner can't see within it and has never been there?

So, what are the must-play season 8 scenarios. I usually avoid any 8's on pbp throughout the year to give my self full selection at PaizoCon.

I have a 4th Inquisitor, a 6th Oridin, and some 1-2's.

Looking for adventures that are just a blast to play, and/or provide some lore for the season.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

If someone wanted to go through all 7 (8?) seasons, to 1) progress characters from 1-12, and maybe again start over with another set if we max out... and 2) to get a feel for the overall story so far, what scenarios would you suggest from each season (again, in order so characters could advance from level 1 on. So, levels 1-2 in season one, 3-4 in season 2, etc.)

Any seasons that are not important to the story line.

I am part of an after-school gaming club that is meeting for our last session and they wanted to try Pathfinder.

Seven kids, five of which have never played (the two that have played are my kids). I have about an hour and fifteen minutes. They've already picked some 1st level pregens and their homework was to read the character sheets, so we should be able to hop right into it.

I want to give them somewhat of a dungeon crawl experience and am currently thinking of running Ambush in Absalom. Boosting the number of baddies due to having 7 characters.

Are any of the other quests a better dungeon experience? Any other recommendations? Probably has to be a quest given the time limit and being the last session.

Thanks!

We are doing an after-school table top gaming program (a few days of gaming after school for an hour). One of the middle-school students, who has been reading the beginner box rules (that we have at the library), wants to play some Pathfinder. We will likely only do this one of the nights, so I am hoping for a 45 minute scenario.

Are the PAX (or other convention) scenarios available anywhere?

I was looking to create a character that could cinematically enter combat, provoking AOOs, disarming is opponent, and clobbering the opponent with his own weapon. (or tripping him, or whatever)

Originally I planned to use the Panther Style chain to get attacks on the AOOs, but it looks like Panther Style only allows a strike, not a maneuver.

Is there other way to be able to perform a maneuver against an AOO. Or something where if maneuver is successful then get attack?

Until I discovered the problem with Panther Style, the build was

1- Combat Reflexs, Improved Unarmed, Panther Style
2- Combat Expertise, Improved Disarm
3- Improved Trip
4- Panther Claw Wis 15 (for snake)
5- Panther Parry
6- Vicious Stomp

Here's a good list of the various coinage of Golarion.

Is there any official images or text about what the other side of a Korvosan gold sail looks like? One side has a ship, what's the other?

Are there any other coins that we know what both sides look like?

I'd love to know the imagery of at least one copper, silver, gold, and platinum.

I am reading through the D&D 5e PHP right now to get a feel for it and it got me thinking out action economy and Pathfinder.

One issue with Pathfinder action economy is that iterative attacks, two weapon fighting, etc are all full round actions. This makes combat pretty static as everyone is stuck with 5' steps.

One thing I like about 5e is that movement can happen before/after/between attacks.

As a simple solution to the static combat inherent in full-round actions. What would be the implications in Pathfinder of ...

1) Allowing movement before/after/between attacks.
2) Instead of killing all movement for full round actions, allowing half-movement.

There's probably a couple of feats that would be invalidated/useless (something that allows an attack during movement). But what other implications does the above have?

(Note: I already looked at the action economy in Unchained, and it had some undesirable consequences on classes such as the Magus, that rely on swift actions.)

I'm about to run the second chapter of Rise of the Runelords. I'd like to try 5E for kicks to see how my players like it compared to Pathfinder.

Wizards STILL doesn't offer PDFs, so I have to buy physical books.

What books do I NEED to buy to try it out? I figure the Player's Handbook so that we can recreate the characters. But Do I NEED the DMG? Does the PH cover most combat, etc?

I plan to do monster conversion on the fly (or ahead of time, but using these ideas.)

I don't want to invest a bunch of money into it yet. It'll have to be a pretty amazing experience to pull me from Pathfinder ...

Ok ... I've been playing on the boards now for a couple of years and feel it's time to give back.

So, I know those are Dwarven Forge pieces, but who makes the terrain/buildings that was in the Sandpoint delve?

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

It looks as if most Dwarven Forge pieces are set up for either 7.5 or 15+ foot hallways? Is this true or are there sets of pieces that allow for the more common 5' hallways you see in most pregenerated adventures.

From what I can tell it would be difficult to recreate much of what you see in either modern Pathfinder AP's (5' hallways), or most original modules (10' hallways being very common.)

Thoughts?

Can you do the following.

1- Take Improved Unarmed Strike
2- Take feats that require improved unarmed strike as a prereq
3- Take Monk and gain improved unarmed strike
4- Retrain the initial improved unarmed strike.

Retraining rule, "The old feat can't be one you used as a prerequisite for a feat, class feature, archetype, prestige class, or other ability."

So the initial improved unarmed strike was technically used as a prerequisite, but you now have the feat again and are still meeting all your requirements.

If the rules disallow something that "was ever used as a prereq" it would mean that even if you retrained the feats that were dependent on Improved Unarmed Strike so it was no longer a prereq, you could not retrain it since at one time it was used as a prereq.

Should it really read, "The old feat can't currently be used as a prerequisite ..."

EDIT: I looked on the boards, but only found similar, but not exactly the same questions.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Ok … so I am trying to build a character that fights with a combination of unarmed strikes, disarms, trips, along with his primary weapon. I see him taking opponents weapons through disarm and using them against his foes, etc. I would like to build something "cinematic". Not looking to optimize, but rather have fun and have many options as to what he can do.

The main feats I am interested in are feats that allow him to react to other actions through aoo's such as the panther Style feat chain (get free attacks based off of other's AOOs), and the snake style feat chain (late in the chain - get extra attacks if you crit and when opponent misses you.)

I am thinking Fighter Lore Warden as it gives plenty of feats and bonuses to CMB.

The current build I have looks like (20 point)

STR: 16
DEX: 14 (Raised at 4 and 8 to gain AC and an extra AOO)
CON: 10
Int: 13 for improved Combat Maneuvers (Gets expertise without prereq, but does not say you get improved combat maneuvers without int)
Wis: 15 for snake style feat chain
Char: 10

I don't like to dump.
I don't want to give up weapon focus/mastery as that is his primary form of attack, the combat maneuvers are for fun.

Human - Vudrani
1- Combat Reflexes, Improved Unarmed, Panther Style
2- Combat Expertise, Improved Disarm
3- Improved Trip
4- Panther Claw Dex 15
5- Panther Parry
6- Vicious Stomp (Or dirty Fighter)
7- Snake style
8- Snake Side Wind DEX - 15 (4 AOOs) (
9- Snake Fang (Can't take before 9)
10- Combat style Master
11- Greater Disarm

Traits are - This is for Serpant's Skull
- Mwangi Scholar
- Martial Manuscript

Other possible feats
Viscous Stomp
Improved Dirty Fighter
Toughness
Whirl wind attack ...
All the other maneuvers, bull rush, drag, etc)

Anyone have any thoughts to make this, not necessarily optimized, but MORE FUN to play. I love having options every round, not just picking the optomized attack. It's why I like panther and snake styles, giving extra attacks based on AOO or an opponent missing, I would not feel bad "wasting" that on a dirty trick for instance.

Again, his sword is his main weapon, so what weapon feats should be snuck in (or added after level 11)?

(I don't think it's viable given the need to boost CMB as much as possible but some mix with inquisitor could be good given the Snake Style synergies with the inquisitor's sense motive.)

Thanks!

Ok, Paizo has an RPG, and have expanded into a board/card game, they have miniatures and toys, novels, comics, and we're looking at an MMO, a CRPG, and definitely a tablet app for the card game.

So when will we see licensing for a movie?

Grand Lodge

Is this shirt good for a PFS re-roll ... is it the "Goblinworks Kickstarter shirt" from the Guide to PFS?

For that matter, is this the same shirt that came with the technology demo $100 level? I backed both Kickstarters, but didn't get the shirt and would like one. However, if it is the same shirt, I find it odd that just anyone can buy them. It seems like it should be limited to "Goblin Squad" members ... however I do see the advantage of advertising the game.

Grand Lodge

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Ok … so I am trying to build a character that fights with a combination of unarmed strikes, disarms, trips, and a weapon. I see him taking opponents weapons through disarm and using them against his foes, etc. Basically cinematic fighting.

The main feats I am interested in are feats that allow him to react to other actions through aoo's such as the panther Style feat chain (get free attacks based off of other's AOOs), and the snake style feat chain (get extra attacks if you crit, and later if an opponent misses you.)

To do ALL of this I would need/want (I don't think I'd get it all but)

Int 13 - for Panther style chain and combat expertise
Wis 15 - for Snake Style
Dex enough to matter to get extra AOOs
acrobatics 6
Sense Motive 9

Improved Unarmed Strike
Combat reflexes
Combat expertise

Improved Disarm
Improved Trip
Panther style
Pangther claw
Panther Parry
Snake style - sense 3, acro 1 Sense motive to AC
Snake Sidewind - sense 6, acro 3 Confirm with sense motive instead, 5' step if confirm.
Snake Fang - sense 9, acro 6 If opponent misses can attack

Desirable
Two weapon fighting
Vicious Stop
Greater Trip

This is easy to do with a fighter or brawler(or monk, but meh) and a Lore Warden is perfect for this to to his Maneuver bonuses.

Here is where I get stupid and want too much though.

I don't care about optimizing him (He's got to be useful, but not perfect), and what I love in characters is options. I like having many things to choose between each round, melee options (not just your one highest DPS swing), spells, SLAs, etc.

The above build gives awesome options for melee, but I would like to work in some inquisitor or something like that to get spells and other options. Some SLAs through elf or half-elf for example may help too …

Other feats like the styles that allow retaliatory strikes?
I want a solid 12 level build … don't anticipate getting to go past that
Ideas? Thanks!

Edit: a Lore Warden 6, Inquisitor 6 is an interesting build … the inquisitor's sense motive boosts work well with the Snake Style use of Sense Motive
