Even though Seldanna is bowing out at Level 12, I'd be happy to bring a different PC through for the Fiend series to keep up the numbers. I haven't played those adventures before. Of course, if you'd prefer to bring someone in now with the plan of keeping them on board for Waking Rune, that's totally cool.

I've played Waking Rune with another character (on hard mode) some time ago. I do remember it being quite challenging...not that these last couple of scenarios haven't been hard already.

Particularly if this group isn't continuing on straight away, I think Seldanna will just go ahead and level upto 12. This was a suitably epic adventure to reach that milestone.

It has been a blast playing through these three scenarios!

Back in Magnimar, Seldanna continues to gush words out in panic, looking over her shoulders as if expecting the hounds and the rest of the other monsters to appear behind her at any moment. "Yes, Sheila Heidmarch! Where is she? I must speak to her. We found the rune plates but were attacked on out way out! Oh, it was terrible! The rest of my party...they're still in there. I-I just had to get out! I-I'm so terribly sorry. Won't anybody help?" Tears well up in the terrified young witch's green eyes.

Not sure what Seldanna's options are here beyond just a side story now. She has a dispel magic spell but not even sure she can use that in a panicked state. Unless someone steps in to help, is she even able to do anything else? Locating and buying some scrolls to go back in and help? That could take time.

Seldanna appears out of nowhere in the Magnimar Lodge in a panic. Her red hair disheveled and her green eyes wide in fright, she screams at the top of her voice. "Help! They surrounded us! Some of us are still in there! We have the plates but we were caught in an ambush on our way out!"

I know it is outside the confines of the scenario rules, but what scope is there for Seldanna to enlist help for the others if/when she makes it back to the Manor?

Seldanna will definitely take as many as she can and are willing. Does the confusion rely on the Confusion roll, i.e. if they get 'act normally' will they be able to come? Her initial plan was to take Teric and Daedin as they were standing next to her, but as positions were random, I assume that whomever is willing will be OK?

As she starts to flee in fear, Seldanna calls out to her patron...time! She imagines in her panicked mind that she has another chance to cast her teleportation spell and get out of this forsaken place.

Seldanna succumbs to the creature's fear inducing spells, but otherwise manages to keep her mind clear. "We have to get out! We have to get out now!!" The young witch's voice cracks as she slips into a panic.

The words of her teleportation spell practically tumble out of her mouth as she reaches out to grab who she can and drag them with her back to Heidmarch Manor.

Teleport. Based on position, it looks like Seldanna will try and take Daedin and Teric with her.

"Stay together!" Seldanna huddles as close as she can with the rest of the group, looking around anxiously at the creatures that circle the group.

The first word of a teleportation spell begins to form on her mouth as she keeps an eye on Pai, hoping to synchronise her spell to get everyone out at the same time.

Delaying until Pai's turn in the order.

What a tough decision. Let's stick together and hopefully we'll all get out...or if needed will have enough people left standing to defend anyone who gets taken out of action by the creature's spells or attacks.

Seldanna winces as the tattoo takes hold, but then examines it with curiosity tinged with a little concern. "Yes, I think that's enough excitement for one day. Heading back sounds good to me too. I was unlikely to ever forget this adventure...but this will keep it forever in mind. Time to get back and reflect for awhile."

Seldanna steps forward and examines the script. "Yes, I can read this. It seems to be the vow of service. Shall I just read it aloud...I guess we've come this far?"

Unless the group decide on another course of action...

The young red-headed witch takes a deep breath and lays her hand on the sphere, reading the words. "I proclaim my eternal devotion to the everlasting realm of Haruka, to the power of sloth, and to...ah, my runelord. " it is just a slight pause but she takes another breath and continues. "I shall use the powers over my servitors to serve greatest Krune."

She turns back to look at the group, asking with her eyes whether she should make the last promise...

If no-one tries to stop her...

"We promise to awaken the Runelord Krune."

Her body stiffens a little as she finishes these last words, anticipating some sort of reaction.

Seldanna holds her ground but keeps the creature in her line of sight. She alters her gestures slightly and sends another wave of hex magic towards the protean.

Relieved to find her mind clear once more, Seldanna pushes through the slowing effects still hindering her movements. She tries to get close enough to send another hex towards the imentesh.

Not sure if moving into Seldanna's new position is a 5' step or requires a full move. If only a 5' step then she'll attempt an Evil Eye hex.

Seldanna stares at the creature as it writhes in pain, a look of hatred in her eyes. She sends a another hex to hopefully prolong its agony. Her eyes roll back in her head and her long red hair swirls around her face as she begins to cackle with glee.

"Nicely done, Nina!", Seldanna exclaims as the little gnome despatches the suddenly all too close sphinx.

The witch turns her attention to the last remaining foe, sending another hex in its direction.

Her mind and body magically slowed, Seldanna finds herself unable to move close enough to hex another of the sphinxes or cast any of her more involved spells.

Resorting to a familiar old spell, the young witch lets a few grains of sand sift through her fingers as she chants a few arcane words.

A gasp of shock escapes Seldanna's mouth as Teric is brutally torn to shreds in front of her eyes. The witch's face contorts into a snarl of rage as she practically spits out the words of a spell, reaching into her spell pouch and casting what look to be three tiny nutshells into the air.

Confusion (DC22). Targeted in the middle of the three sphinxes so as to catch them all in the 15' burst but none of her allies.

Following Teric's lead, Seldanna also activates her Lissalan tattoo to provide some extra vigour in case this turned into a fight.

"Given our difficulty dealing with those infernal hounds, I would think any chance to avoid unnecessary conflict with the sphinxes would be wise. Perhaps the suggestion to play to their vanity might be our best course of action...praising them for their deception and vigilance as you put it." Seldanna offers her thoughts to the discussion.

"Of course, if they really do not trust us and had every intention of leading us into this trap then we may end up having to fight them, regardless."

"This seems to be some sort of mathematical riddle!" Seldanna cackles. "Factors few! Product of the fewest steps! Looks like we need a number that cannot be divided by any numbers except itself. Since it says to obscure the one from sight, I think we need to go through door number seven!"

Seldanna slowly moves up alongside the couatl and takes a look at the runes.

The red-headed witch reads the words out, which take on an even more ominous tone interspersed in between her persistent cackling.

"I will aid you as long as I can...but my time here is short. Perhaps healing is my best gift to you at this time?" The couatl tends to those in most need, starting with Daedin.

With the couatl and Daedin simultaneously healing, that should save us a few rounds and more than a few of Daedin's wand charges.

While the great rainbow serpent tends to the elf, Seldanna steps forward and lays a tender hand on the injured beast, mending its wounds and causing the sprouts of fresh feathers to push through its skin. All the while she continues to cackle quietly to herself as if in some sort of trance.

Cackling to extend Fortune hex on self. If anyone else would like a fortune hex at this point, just let me know and consider it done. It is a once/day offer.

Depending on how many rounds we want to pause, the couatl will use another standard CMW or two on itself, wanting to keep a few spell slots open in case we get back into combat before it returns to its home plane.

From Seldanna's perspective, consider the couatl couatinated!

The couatl, its beautiful rainbow feathers in tatters and its body covered in deep, bloody wounds, continues to fight on alongside its new companions.

In its soft, eerily peaceful voice it speaks for perhaps the last time in this realm. "These hounds are fierce indeed...but I will aid you as long as I can!"

With that it hovers back a few feet and then concentrates for a moment before sending another two, even more powerful, rays of fire towards the nearest of the evil hounds.

Seldanna steps up behind the brave beast and start to cast a spell of her own. Barking out a series of dark, arcane words, she she calls up a mass of seething, rubbery tentacles from underneath the flying hounds. They reach up out of the ground and reach out to grab at the beasts.

Also, just noticed that Seldanna has Smoked Goggles in her inventory which I neglected to have her put on. If it is OK for her to retcon them on (she's smarter than I am and would have remembered) and they have an effect against the hounds gaze attack, please add the +8 bonus from them (not yet included).

The great rainbow serpent hovers above the ground, momentarily turning back to lock eyes with Seldanna as the witch manages to forge a telepathic bond with the awesome creature. "Very well! I will aid you!" Its eyes betray a great wisdom and its voice is softly spoken and calm. "It is these vile hounds that we fight, I assume?"

Seldanna nods and stutters out a faint "Y-yes!" as she stands in awe of the couatl, moving up towards the entrance, her eyes carefully averted from the hound that she knows to be lurking within. Expecting the worst, she casts a Fortune hex on herself in anticipation of at least one of the creatures catching her in their gaze.

The couatl enters the structure, sending a ray of scorching flames towards the hound near Daedin.

A screech of dismay comes from inside Lonan's cage as Seldanna's raven familiar sees this new feathered beast that she's summoned up into existence.

So, how does the group feel about Seldanna summoning some sort of assistance. Was thinking either an Invisible Stalker to hopefully get in some Combat Reflex assisted AoOs on the hounds, or a Lillend Azata to bring some extra healing and maybe a Sound Burst to slow down the hounds. Or maybe a few Brilani Azata

The only nagging worry is the warning that summoning may be disrupted or wonky here, so something may go wrong with the summon.

Those things are going to be rough and we're going to be low on healing now.

They are immune to mind-affecting effects, so a lot of Seldanna's arsenal is out of play. For her contribution, perhaps a couple of pre-emptive summoning spells to give us some back-up and boost our numbers. Other than that, AoE options such as Black Tentacles or Stinking Cloud to slow down the hounds? Haste for the party?

Seldanna, having spent the conversation with the dragon scrawling notes into her journal, is almost as impressed by the mural adorning the walls of the room. "Angels...demons...daemons...devils..." the witch seems to be ticking off different types of nasties off on a list in her book. "...genies...oh, and even creatures of the Dark Tapestry!"

She takes a closer look at some of the figures in the mural that grab her attention. "This is a cornugon devil, this one's an efreeti. A shaggy demodand! Denizens of Leng...and what's this? An Astradaemon! They all seem to be servants to their tattoed master! I suppose one has to reluctantly admire the man's charisma, even if the followers he attracts can only be described as deplorable!"
