I’m gonna share my characters bio, and then talk a tiny bit about how built him rules wise to try and fit that. I used to do this for new players when I ran games at the library, so they could see the how I was building characters. Let me know if you have any questions. I’d also love to hear your builds.

Bio: Scrimshaw is Kellid, a group of hardy people that live in in the area known as the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. He comes from a tribe called the Snow Mask.

He is very tall, 6’5, long hair. He is covered in strange writing that was clawed into him. While out hunting with his father, they became trapped in a snowstorm. Kardok says that something came out of the snows, something made of ice and shadow, and took his father. It left him covered in strange writing, and layered in scars.
When he became older, he left the Snow Mask tribe in the hope of finding out what it was that took his father, and to find someone to translate the writing on him. He joined the pathfinders for the same reason, to hopefully gain some leads.

He is quiet and stern, but loves to laugh. He takes his position as a pathfinder sword very seriously.

Build: So Scrimshaw is a barbarian. I maxed out his strength score to make it easier for him to hit things and to do more damage. His constitution score is pretty high, so he can take a hit and keep on fighting. His dex is not bad, to help with his low armour class. His intelligence and wisdom score are average. His charisma is very low, to reflect his stern personality and the scars all over his body.

For feats, I took power attack. This make it a bit harder to hit, but Scrimshaw does a lot more damage. As a human, I get a second feat. I took cleave. Cleave allows me to hit two people at the same time if they are next to each other.
Ok, so I decided to play my barbarian Kardok, who goes by Scrimshaw.
The meeting room we are in is huge and slightly seperated from the rest of the library. There should be plenty of room. The bathrooms are close by and I'm pretty sure there's a changing in there for the little ones. And the best thing about a free con is if you need to leave at anytime, it's no worries.

The main thing I'd mention is just keep in mind it is a public event and all the stuff that comes with that. But we hope you can make it.
Dylos wrote:Not to distract from Dennis' ego, but I have a question about the venue.

It seems really arbitrary to point a finger at the least culprit while other non-paladin/Saranrae/Pharasma friendly characters are a go. I do not currently have an Undead Lord, though I've been wanting to try one (and now will not be able to), I'd really like to know why, AND more importantly would like to know the reasoning so I can explain it to other players. The other bans are obvious, and this one, to me simply is not and I really do not feel it is deserved at all. So I'd really like to know why exactly.

:)

Beckett, thanks for asking this. I have been hoping for an answer to the ban of the Undead Lord as well. The original reasoning I had heard was due to evil flavor and flavor text. But I posted earlier that I can make the same cleric with the same domain, same god, same alignment, same variant channeling, same spells, and even a pet (with less animate undead.) So banning the UL for this seems a little heavy handed for me.

I've now noticed that people have mentioned issues with the corpse companion rules. But not totally sure yet.
Beckett wrote:TetsujinOni wrote: Beckett, I think you missed the explanation I recall seeing earlier in the massive thread - the undead lord has some rules interpretation issues with the corpse companion that slow things down in even more significant ways than dominate-lite tactics while they are adjudicated.

I can rebuild my undead lord as a cleric. He would still worship the same god (zyphus), same alignment (neutral), have the same domain (undead), same channeling variant (undead), same spells, and even get a undead companion of sorts at 3rd level with lesser animate dead.

So why the ban? Does being a normal cleric somehow make him less "evil" than a UL, even though thier abilities are nearly identical? Is it just flavor text? The mehcanics for the UL (corspe companion) are sound and balanced, and not any more or less evil than a regular cleric build of zyphus. So is this a pure flavor text ban?

I totally get the summoner bans, but am I little unsure on this one, other than being a ban based purely on flavor, and more specificly, flavor text.
I have a 3rd level Undead Lord I have to rebuild. As I was working on him today, I had a question.

I have some experience with this. From 2006 to about 2009 I hosted a Role playing program at my branch. It was on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. At the time, we used RPGA adventures (3.5). They were free, were easier for my DM's to prep, etc. Also, the RPGA was extremely gracious towards us, and let us receive promotional items like a store. Our numbers were staggering, with an average of about 40 players, and we even hit 90 once (which was a nightmare, to be honest.)

Overall, it was one of the best progams I've ever done. We stopped not long after 4th because Libraries stopped being supported, as well as cutbacks in my system towards programming.

My branch did order roleplaying materials, and the program really helped shaped our branch's collection. They have high check out numbers.

I've been considering starting it again, with Pathfinder Society, but just haven't quite gotten there yet. The number one thing to consider would be cost. Although inexpensive, they still cost, which is something to think about. Also, if you are going to do this, start talking to volunteers, you are going to need them to run games for you. They are extremely important.
Hello,
