About Rogato Medvyed

Background:

Rogato is the 4th son of a minor branch of the Medvyed family. His family holds a small rural estate fairly close to the Stolen Lands.

His time growing up was primarily on the estate itself but he HAS spent some time in the cities as part of his great uncles entourage.

He has had at least some training in the noble arts and in how to best take advantage of his quickness and speed rather than to rely upon brute strength. Although he never cared for the Aldori sword he did greatly gain from the fact that he could adopt some of the Aldori sword masters techniques to his favourite weapon, the Glaive.

In Restov as a young man he fell in love with a beautiful noblewoman (Cordia) far above his stature, a woman who was a great artist and a Shelynite. Although their love affair was doomed to fail it was from her that he gained his love and appreciation of art and beauty, together with the knowledge that he has no ability to draw whatsoever.

At home he spent a great deal of time exploring the woods and, in that process, befriended both a local druid and the local Fey.

At 22 he spent several weeks with the Fey. Although he isn't totally certain, he thinks he actually ended up in the First World. He certainly went to places that he has never been able to find again.

It was during that trip that he met Sela, a lovely leopardess. They became firm friends and have been nearly inseparable since. Small for her kind, Sela is nonetheless quite the warrior.

When the opportunity to forge a kingdom out of the Stolen Lands came up Rogato leaped at the chance.

Appearance:

Rogato is a quite handsome young man who is dressed in fine but practical clothing. Although he wears a little jewelry (including a signet ring and a holy symbol of Shelyn) and is careful about his appearance even while living rough he is a long, long way from a fop.

He is lithe and slender, agile rather than strong.

Although he is fairly subtle about it his family allegiance, his worship of Shelyn, and his devotion to nature are all reflected in his clothing and equipment. The blade of his glaive has the holy symbol of Shelyn subtly etched into it while the haft is carved with various fey creatures and animals.

Everything he wears and wields is at least partly a work of art. None of it is particularly valuable since he cannot yet afford that. But everything is at least somewhat attractive while still being functional.

This pattern continues with both Sela (his leopard) and Pris (his horse). Both wear armour and harness that has some decorations woven into them.

Sela is a slightly small female leopard with the glint of intelligence in her eyes. She has a much more distinctive rosette pattern than is normal.

Personality:

Several things combine to make Rogato the person that he is

He is the fourth son of a minor branch of a noble family and hence he has to make his own way in the world. So, while he definitely has a noble mien and is definitely aware of his status he also knows that he has to cooperate with others and not just order them around, he has to show his ability and earn respect.

He is a devout worshipper of Shelyn. This particularly reveals itself in his great appreciation of the wonderous beauty and majesty that is nature. He regrets the fact that he doesn't have any ability to draw, to reproduce that nature on canvas. But he CAN sing and dance and he likes to reproduce the sounds of nature and the actions of animals in his works.

He very much sees his fighting with the Glaive as an art form. Wherever possible he will, of course, seek non violent solutions to a problem. He finds it a tragedy when he is forced to kill sapient enemies who are enemies (as opposed to just being evil).

To the extent possible he tries to follow the Shelynite Paladins code as well as the druidic code. Its amazing how few times they actually conflict with each other.

He has a profound love and respect for nature and particularly appreciates the Fey, at least the non evil Fey.

Despite the above he is, at core, a reasonably practical person. He has seen his Great Uncle manage the family estates and knows that to be "too good" is to lose everything. People need guidance, they need food, they need shelter. Sometimes you have to be harsh to survive. Nature is very much about the struggle to live and survive.

He is generally merry, happy with a good sense of humour. He sees himself as a leader of men. But he DOES recognize that he isn't the smartest, most knowledgeable of men and he relies upon the advice of others. But, once he has heard the advice, he thinks that it is his duty and position to make the decisions.

He sees Sela (his leopard) as his friend and ally and NOT a minion to be ordered around. But he is aware that she needs to be given firm direction or sometimes her mischevious nature can come out at inopportune times

He treats all animals well and with respect

Goals:

Rogato has come to the Borderlands for a few reasons.

First, he needs to prove himself and establishing a kingdom is the obvious way to do that. He needs to establish a legacy for his children.

He also wants to make sure that the kingdom established is a GOOD kingdom. A kingdom where all non evil folk (most definitely including the Fey) can find a home. A kingdom where man lives in harmony with nature rather than rapaciously destroying it in the name of profit. And, ultimately, a kingdom which values Peace and Art and Beauty.

He knows those are lofty goals that are not totally achievable. But they are a good direction in which to strive
