Hey everyone.

Unfortunately, I am dropping out of all my PbP games (with the exception of the one I am running), so will not be able to continue playing with you.

Both my professional and my personal lives have taken a turn, becoming increasingly busier and demanding for the last couple of months - I have been struggling to keep up, and I do not see any chance of improvement anytime soon. I need to make room for these other demands and priorities, and PbP will have to take the brunt of the hit.

The only thing I can say is thank you for a great game and a great time while it lasted.

If someone gives him a hand, he will try to shroud the messenger remains on whatever cloth he might find. If he finds none, so be it. Then dig a shallow grave, bury the man, cover it with some stones and offer a prayer.

As he picked up the shattered bone staff clutched in the goblin's bony fingers, it raised several questions - he kept them to himself for now, but he had a nagging feeling there might be more to all of this.

With the loot and valuables gathered, he took an appraising look at some of the damaged goods - "These might still be worth a coin if we manage to get them repaired" - he commented, always happy with the idea of turning a profit.

Then he turned his attention to the carrion pile - "Nasty business..." - as he approached the gruesome mound, his eyes were drawn to the mangled remains of the messenger. It was clear he had suffered a brutal end at the hands of the goblins.

Carefully, Rannock began to sift through the pile of carrion and bones. He was looking for anything that could shed light on the events leading up to the messenger's death, or the goblin gang's connection to the undead. Could they have simply hijacked the messenger by coincidence? He also tried to find if anything could be recovered from the corpse - remains of messages or identifying marks/heraldry.

On the loot, I don't think Rannock can use any of the weapons, and the armor bits are worse than his, so you guys go for it.

Unfortunately my grandmother has passed away - she was 96 years old and had been hospitalized for some time now. It was not unexpected, but still a very hard blow to the family.

"Maybe there is more to these wretches than meets the eye..." - Rannock pondered Ping's words - 'Or they are being led by someone more... Resourceful' - he kept this last part to himself.

Rannock is extremely confused about why Ping is so upset, but since he does not know how to help he just stands there awkwardly.

@BD: Had Rannock ever seen something like that? A cloud that raises the dead?

"Is everyone else ok? Them skeletons should not be returning any time soon, but I can't let them roaming around the countryside"

"How'd ye know they'd turn lad?" - Rannock is surprised at Ping's reaction, but does not skip a beat. Raising his holy symbol, the dwarf attempts to push back the risen dead.

Rannock steps forward, and with the utterance of divine word, blesses his companions!

Bless: The caster’s allies gain +1 to hit, and a + 1 on saving throws against fear. The reverse spell, bane, causes the caster’s enemies a -1 to hit and saving throws against fear.

There is nothing about line of sight, so I am not sure if Spiro is affected?

Busy weekend with family, as usual.

Just chipping in to confirm - RAW C&C has no critical, correct? So I think we should start from the bottom up, meaning a crit = maximum damage, for example. And see how it pans out from there.

We haven’t yet ascertained how good/bad character survivability is in C&C, so double damage on a crit is an unpredictable wildcard. Max damage seems like a good middle ground to me.

Rannock watches Zeebo transform with a mixture of admiration and concern. The illusionist's dedication to their plan is impressive, but the risk is high.

"Alright, Zeebo. We'll be ready to back you up. Be careful in there."

Rannock motions for the others to take strategic positions around the ruin. He moves to a spot where he can maintain a clear view of Zeebo while staying hidden.

"Spiro’s got the right idea. Let's keep our eyes open and cover each other. This might be more than just a small band of goblins. We need to be ready for anything."

Rannock keenly notes the embroidered capsa hanging at Boontah's waist, bearing the same sigil found on the saddlebags of the lost messenger's horse—the symbol of the Guild of Messengers & Couriers.

"We need that scroll case," Rannock whispers urgently to his companions. "It's from the messenger, and it could have vital information."

He tightens his grip on his warhammer, ready to support his companions. "I have no love for goblins, but let's try to be cautious. We might learn something valuable." He glances at the fallen goblin, Sleeg, a hint of disapproval in his eyes.

"This could be an outpost for a larger force or even a lair. We need to gather what we can from these goblins before we silence them. They might have information about a bigger threat. Let's be smart about this."

Stifling a laugh, Rannock shares what he has heard with his companions - "That one might be moving away to relieve himself, so we might be able to catch him alone"

As Spiro moves off to the left through the woods, Rannock kneels down, his eyes scanning the surrounding area. He focuses his attention on the goblin voices, straining to catch any useful information.

He waits, ears tuned to the goblin tongue, ready to relay any critical details to the group.

Turning to Jenneleth, he continues - "Miss Jenneleth, your decision to stay with Eireachdail is wise. His sword and your spells will ensure your safety. We will make haste and find the messenger or at least retrieve the missive. It is important"

He looks over at the caravan, patting the mule - "Peebles will stay behind with you as well"

Then he follows after the others.

Happy to trod along with Ping toward the middle of the group.

Rannock listens to Mos with a calm but firm expression - "Mos, we’re not soldiers blindly following orders. We’ve made a deal, and part of that deal involves making decisions in the best interest of those we’ve agreed to protect"

With a glance around at the group, a hint of disapproval in his eyes, he adds - "It would also be nice to remember to address Miss Jenneleth properly. She is not 'the girl'; she’s right here with us"

Then he turns his gaze towards Jenneleth - "Miss, your safety and the chest’s delivery are our priorities. However, I believe we should also consider the potential importance of the messenger and their message. Do you feel it’s worth investigating?"

He then looks back at the group- "If Miss Jenneleth agrees, I see no harm in a brief search. It aligns with our principles and could be beneficial. We should not be so rigid as to ignore what’s right in front of us"

"Whatever Miss decides, I will support and accept her decision"

Rannock regards Zeebo and Spiro with a stony expression.

"Aye, Zeebo, perhaps the authorities would have dealt harshly with the goblin, but it is not our place to play judge and executioner. Mercy is not ours to decide on a whim"

He turns to Spiro, his tone softening just a bit - "Mercy or not, the way we treat our enemies speaks volumes about us. We should strive to be better"

Addressing the group as a whole, he nods in agreement with Jenneleth's assessment - "Miss Jenneleth is right. The messenger's life may hang in the balance, and if not, their message might be of importance. I feel we can spare the time for a quick search. Our duty to protect Miss Jenneleth and the chest remains of course, but we should not abandon our principles in doing so"

He looks to Hûnidark with a measure of respect - "Hûnidark, your opinion on this?"

Gonna ride my Neutral Good alignment all the way ;)

Rannock frowns deeply, clearly displeased with how the goblin was dispatched. He shakes his head and addresses the group with a firm but measured tone.

"We've a duty to see Jenneleth and the chest to their destination, and I agree that's our priority. However, executing a captured foe, even a goblin, is not something I can condone. We could have used him as a porter or handed him over to the authorities at the next settlement"

He gestures towards the blood trail leading into the forest.

"We need to follow this trail. There’s a chance the messenger is still alive and could need our help. His or her life might depend on it"

I vote we should look for the messenger - we might still be able to save his/her life.

Thoughts - Rannock is not a fan of executing captured/defeated foes. If it was up to him, he would take the goblin with them, force him to act as a porter (if he can walk), then deliver hem to the authorities at the next settlement.

Rannock approaches the injured mare, his voice calm and reassuring as he addresses both Hûnidark and the others gathered.

"Hûnidark, you've done well to calm her. Let me see to her wound now. Grunnundergön's blessings will aid in her recovery"

With a practiced hand, Rannock gently examines the arrow wound, then raises his holy symbol, muttering a prayer to Grunnundergön. A soft, golden light emanates from his hands as he channels a restorative spell.

Casting First Aid for now on the mare - will use Cure Light Wounds later today, before we rest.

As the mare's wound is magically bandaged and dressed, Rannock turns his attention to the rest of the group.

"Now, let us not forget the danger that may still be lurking. Spiro, be careful in those trees. If goblins are nearby, they will be cunning and may set traps"

"Hûnidark, take no unnecessary risks" - he warns his companion.
