About Pace the Joyful

WARNING: Long read (was longer before a computer hiccup :[)

Backstory:
Pacian Sloan's father was a guard in King Leomar Arabasti IV's court (Eodred II's father), and his mother was their best minstrel. Together, they cultivated a prince from a commoner.
Pace's father trained him in the arts of war, and his mother taught him to perform for audiences, as well as some minor magics she herself had learned. Together, they taught him a diverse array of knowledge, from alchemy to history to tactics.
When Pace came of age, he signed on to the Varisian army, seeking to better himself. His father approved, but his mother was hesitant.
Two years into his service, Pace received word that his mother was gravely ill. With his commander's blessing, he returned home.
The healers were able to save her life, but at the cost of her voice: she would never again sing as sweetly as the songbirds of her homeland.
He stayed with his parents for a short time, ensuring his mother had recovered. Then, he returned to the battlefield.
Pace rose quickly through the ranks of the army, eventually becoming a lieutenant and a fine tactician. He was renowned for helping to tend to the wounded and for brightening their spirits with a jest, earning him the nickname "Pace the Joyful."
After a decade of military service, Pace returned home.
Several years later, his father died of disease. Pacian was deeply saddened by this, thinking that such a hardy man could never fall so easily.
Pace became despondant, longing to once-more traverse the world, to do something.
Thus, Pace signed on to a band of wandering adventurers, some time in his mid-40s.
Due to a fateful encounter with a fire pelt, however, his party's healer deemed him too injured to continue. So, he returned once more to home.
He healed well and was soon yearning once more to get out, to do something.
So, with his mother's help and blessing, the two started The Shimmering Blades, a performing troupe named for his father's old regiment.
The troupe performed in Korvosa for quite some time. Eventually, though, due to her age, Pace's mother had to retire. As such, they returned to her cottage for her retirement.
Pace, however, still wanted more.
He decided to take The Shimmering Blades on the road, soon coming to the town of Sandpoint...

Appearance:
Pace is a man in his twilight years. He has long, silver hair that he typically keeps neatly tied back. His eyes are a vivid green, just as bright as the day he was born.
Despite his advanced age, he has managed to keep in reasonable shape, possibly due to his involvement with The Shimmering Blades.
While not typically outfitted for war anymore, he has kept a suit of light-weight armor and several weapons on hand "just in case."

Personality:
Pace is a very enthusiastic, optimistic individual, but he's no idiot. Half a century of life has taught him to always be prepared for trouble, even if it's only a pothole.
