Getting back to abloom station is as simple as signaling for the captain. He appears moments later with a hopeful look in his eye, "All done eh? Well I hope you learned what you needed to. Good luck in your investigation Starfinders." he says as he escorts you to your shuttle, offering a hand to each of you as you enter the shuttle.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

"Of course, You can view it here on my personal screen." he says as he presses a button under the table and a screen appears on the table with the contract document on it.

This is a complex legal document that is dozens of pages long. it is not overtly complicated but without a proffesion Coorperate Lawyer, profession Lawyer, or profession Miner, it will take a couple hours to go through the entire document.

"I've book marked the sections that I believe make our claim concrete, but feel free to take you them looking through the document." Otal says as he makes his way to the door,"I have duties to attend to but feel free to use the room for as long as you need," he says before pointing to a comm station in the corner," thats preloaded with my comm info so if you need anything just call." he says before leaving the room, passing by the Kasathan metal head.

if you look at the bookmarked sections:

The Acreon found the Drift Rock—a small unclaimed, unexploited mineral resource, as defined in the contract— so rights to the asteroid belong to the Collective. the Annotations that Otal has left indicate he believes that the size of drift rock is what precludes it from Astral Extractions as it is not big enough to be covered in the contract.

If you take the time or can make one of the Profession rolls:

The entire contract is complicated when it comes to who actually owns the Drift Rock. It outlines that the Acreon’s crew would identify sites for future development by the company. It is also heavily implied that these sites would be much larger astroids, that would require an entire colony to be established. In any event the document does not seem to have any concrete verbage on the ownership of an astroid small enough to be towed. After spending several hours scouring the document it becomes apparent why such a “trivial” matter requires such high profile arbitration.

"Wait, the status of the crew hasn't been confirmed yet? I just assumed they were dead."

"I'm Afraid not, once it got out of the the drift and found a place in orbit communications went dark." he says,"Unfortunately with the dispute over ownership of the rock it was towing we havent been able to send out our own party."

"The fact that a big corporation like Astral Extractions is even interested in such a small rock is evidence that its worth something. Bah, this is just another in a large line of struggles against exploitation and even takeover attempts at the hands of would-be corporate overlords. It’s clear that the crew of the Acreon staked their own claim on the Drift Rock, believing that the terms of their contract allowed them to do so.
"Ya see, think about the Collective is, we're a family, once your in, your in and we care for each other. I don't know the value of that rock but I know the value of the Acreon's crew and we deserve to know what happened to them, as any family needs to know the fate of its loved ones. And if the worst has happened..."
he says solemnly before finishing, "Then perhaps whatever wealth this rock holds can help was the loss of the families left behind. Thats all I really care about Starfinders."

You are greeted by a red-skinned human, Captain Serissi. "'Lo Starfinders, Ma'names Otal, Otal Serissi, Captain of this here Starship." he says while shaking each of your hands.

"If ya'll'll follow me, we can get to business in my cabin." he leads you through a series of tight corridors to a small room with barely enough room for all of you to sit. before starting he offers each of you a cup of hot black coffee.
"Now, I know Ambassador Nor has contracted ya'll to look into our ship and our astroid to confirm that it is lawfully ours right?" he says,"Now I dunno if you had a chance to look over the contract we signed, but it clearly states the rock is the property of the Collective and ASTRAL EXTRACTIONS IS JUST TRYING TO STEAL FROM THE LITTLE GUY!" he burst out, slamming his fist on the table before looking around guilty.
"Sorry bout that friends, I just don't want to see so many of my friend's families lose what aught to be theirs by rights." he says while pulling his cap off and wringing it together with his hands."No one in the Collective is rich. Most of us scratch out whatever we can from the Diaspora, so a contract like this one was too good to pass up on, we just didn't think they'd go and try to double cross us like this, and after this whole quarantine thing too? ya know we still don't even know if our crew is dead or alive and all they care about is the damn rock?"
