This book changed my opinion of a Sea-Faring Campaign

5/5

I used to think I would get bored in a Sea-faring campaign. I mean, how many Swashbucklers, Pirate Rogues, and Gunslingers can a party meet before they are ready to move on.

Boy was I wrong.

The Pirate Codex really opened my eyes to the variety of possibilities when it comes to Pirate NPC creation. The book covered most of the pathfinder Core and Base classes, and even had a few hybrid classes as well. Everything from Spell Selection to Feats were so personalized to each NPC, that they really began to take on a life of their own.

As a bonus, Legendary Games provided a combined list of NPC's in their book along with all of the Pirate-themed NPCs that can be found over on d20pfsrd.com, for one super handy reference guide, organized by CR.

The book is exactly what it sells itself as, and does a terrific job in doing so. The only thing I feel would have made this better, is if the book also included a variety of new Ships/Boats, ship-specific siege weapons, pirate-themed weapons, tools and traps. I suppose that would be enough content for an entire new book... What do you think, Legendary Games? Will you consider making a Pirate Codex II: Pirate's Plunder?

Great Add In for ANY Game - Not just for Cold Environments

5/5

I love the fact that this book starts off with an artifact that is basically a Cold Climate Creator Box. Any campaign - wether in the desert or the mountains, can benefit from the contents form this book thanks to this nifty little artifact getting in the wrong hands and bringing snowstorms, animated snowmen, and deadly evergreens rampaging through your PC's town.

The flavor of the monsters was terrific, and Rusted Iron Games has done something that all players would love - They provided attainable loot for all of their wild/natural creations. I can't think of the number of times my players have been disappointing that there was nothing to loot from the creatures attacking with natural weapons, befitting from high natural armor, and utilizing spell-like abilities... But Rusted Iron Games has taken the time to create specific salvageable elements for each of their creations - whether it is the Living Snowballs that can be recovered from defeated Snow Goons, or the Shivervine Whips that can be carefully harvested from defeated Shivervine plants, the Frozen Gardens Winter Special has treats for GMs and Players alike.
