Feats: Pass as Human: +10 bonus on Disguise as a human, no penalty disguising as another race. In areas largely populated or settled by humans, you can take 10 on your Disguise check, meaning most people tend to assume you are human unless given a reason to think otherwise.
Traits: Ancient Explorer: Knowledge (History),
Charming: +1 circumstance trait bonus Bluff or Diplomacy
Octavia is the daughter of Haster Selene and Alatia Selene, a rich Cheliax Noble family from westpool, south of the capital Egorian. Unknown to her human father she’s the daughter of the house guard Ostgarr, a half-orc.
Despite her mixed blood she can pass easily as a human and has done so since childhood. (Feat: Pass as Human)
She was sent at a young age to the capital, Egorian, to train as a Chelish Opera Singer. She had become a singing sensation in her home town. However, her secret was found out at the college when her vocal teacher attempted to force himself on her.
Angry that his advances were spurned he sent word of her mixed blood to her father. In a fit of rage Haster Selene killed both Alatia and Ostgarr and sent some men to the capital to retrieve Octavia.
Before they could reach Octavia however she received an urgent message from her mother, which she was able to send before she was killed, telling Octavia to flee.
Octavia quickly stole a costume from the opera house and a sword and escaped on a ship to dressed as a male human adventurer (she had acted as human male swordsman in an Opera prior to the events).
The ship was bound for Sargava where her great uncle on her mother’s side lives but was forced to get off at port peril because her money had run out.
As the adventure starts Octavia is sitting in the Formidably Maid Bar still dressed as a male Adventurer and sword fighter waiting for a contact who she heard could find her some work.
(A small departure from the campaign trait Ancient Explorer but I think it fits with her education and her circumstances)
Appearance & Character:
Appearance
Physical:
As a third generation half-orc it is not surprising that she appears more human than orc. Her teeth, although having markedly larger canines than average are not telling enough to give away her mixed heritage. She does have darker than average eyes and her skin is darker and than the average Chelaxian woman. Her hair is as black as can be, again a trait of both her Chelish and orcish blood but it tends to be courser than the average human hair and requires more effort on her part to keep it looking human.
What is perhaps the most telling of her mixed heritage is her more proportionate amount of muscle than the average Chelish woman. Although still shapely and feminine when she isn’t trying to disguise it under a man’s baggy clothing, her body tends to be more muscular due to her orc blood and with the proper swagger she is able to present a figure that is more masculine.
Clothing:
Traveller's outfit:
Octavia’s traveler’s clothes are cut for a man, with wide flared black boots, brown baggy pants with a large buckled belt. She wears a lose fitting white tunic of wool tucked in at the waist with long sleeves. To cover her small hands she wears dark leather gloves with a large flared cuff.
Over her tunic she wears a dark brown coat with large grey buttons. On her head she wears a black tricorn hat trimmed in grey
Leather armour:
Her armour is leather chest piece is synched tight and fits under her coat.
Entertainer's Outfit:
A Chelish Opera costume, red and black with golden trim and white lace. although it has the appearance of fine clothing to the less discerning eye it is not the highest quality and certainly would not pass for formal attire at a Ball. But in the shackles the low cut top and the black corset would no doubt turn some heads if she were to wear it.
Octavia’s Character
She has had to act the dutiful and charming daughter of a noble woman her entire life so it comes naturally to her now, however it is at odds with her orcish blood. She has always kept that side of herself under control, the anger and daring that is common to her biological father’s people.
Although still very much a Chelish noblewoman at heart her journey to Port Peril and the potential danger of it all has awakened something she’s never felt before, something akin to a lust for adventure.
Campaign Progression & Motivation:
Octavia begins the Skull and Shackles campaign pretending to be a man in the bar. My hope is that she will try to keep her secret for as many days as she can on the boat but will most likely be found out eventually.
After being found out her desire will most likely be to explore and begin to live a little freer than she ever was able to as a noble chelish woman and begin to explore her orcish side a bit more.
As for her fame as a Chelish Diva she will not give up singing but will most likely try and forge a new appreciation for the songs of the shackles and put her own spin on it. I know the campaign doesn’t really allow for her to become an opera diva in the shackles but I would like to see where this adventure would take her.
