7 people marked this as a favorite.

My gripe is that this decision was made AFTER the deadline to roll badges forward to 2022. If the decision had been announced by the end of the day on Friday, we would have had a day to think and decide. I'm basically committed to going.

I represent one of two players that would love to get 8-14 in on Friday afternoon!!!!!
I posted that we could do Veteran's Vault on the other thread, but this scenario would work well. It has played out in our area at a local con where we were doing other duties, GM and organization. Please let me know if you have room for us. :)

We have 2 that would love Veteran's Vault 4-18 on Friday afternoon.

Anyone by chance available to run a table of 7-12 during the daytime on Thursday? Hubby and I haven't managed to get it in and won't be able to unless it is a pick up game. We have a prior commitment at 6, but would love a daytime game.

You don't state which mid-western city you are starting from, or your preferred mode of travel, nor your time off.

If you are close to Chicago, getting to Seattle by train is simple, but takes a couple of days. You don't have the luggage restrictions that you do when flying, but you will need to get from the train station to the airport while carrying it all. Also, to be cost effective, you have to sleep sitting up in the train car. Not terrible, but not great either.

Flying and the train tend to not be too much different in price. Alaska Air always has a non-stop from STL, and I'm guessing from ORD as well, and others will have seasonal non-stop flights. Just take a look at the days before and after to find the best day to fly. There can be significant differences.

The food at the hotel itself is high! There are a few much less expensive places to eat across the street.

I had a great time at my first PaizoCon!

We appreciated the instructions provided about the Lottery, including the "Buddy" system for the lottery events. Hubby and I assigned each other buddy status, then ranked the same events the same way. We got into 2 lottery events and had a blast playing them.

Since we rarely get to play at home (usually GMing, often older scenarios), we greatly appreciate all those who spent their time and energy prepping and GMing for us.

We liked the schedule with the 8-1, 1-6, dinner break and 7-midnight. It is very similar to other cons we attend. Yes, it means we generally hit the sack at midnight rather than the bar, but we get to socialize with people throughout the small breaks between scenarios, food runs, etc. For those of you who don't often run PFS, while a fully prepared GM can sometimes get the scenario and the paperwork finished in four hours, it gets difficult. If there is a high level table involved - and a lot of summoned monsters on the table - just forget it.

We appreciated the hot dog stand, the coffee shop, and the bar in the ballroom. We ate a number of our meals in the hotel bar, just because it was easy. The fish tacos were tasty (on the bar menu - not the limited menu). The other hotel restaurant had a decent breakfast bar with a continental option for $12 and a lot of fresh fruit. I think this contributed to our health during the con and after. The banquet was some of the best hotel banquet food I've had (and I've eaten a lot of them). This says a lot for the planner of the banquet and the hotel. I hope future banquets are as good.

I had no complaints about my hotel room, the service to it, or the location. It is what I expect from a moderate priced Hilton property. I appreciated the shuttle and the early check-in without additional charge.

Now to figure out if we can make it next year!

We can't wait to host #6-00: Legacy of the Stonelords! Last year, when we played the special we had about 15 tables. I hope to break that this year!

Anyone who didn't make Gen Con and can attend CogCon, we can't wait to see you!

That scared me..... I have a number of college students in our campus gaming association who want to volunteer and can only go to Gen Con if they volunteer enough to get a room. I'm supposed to email them the minute I see the announcement.

I mean no disrespect to anyone who volunteers to GM. We love all GMs and always want more. But please, PLEASE, make sure you understand what you are getting into before signing up to GM 7 or 8 slots.

** spoiler omitted **
Every convention I have been to that offers a free hotel room has some people sign up for the room and then not show up to his or her game, requiring a mad scramble for a GM who may be running the scenario cold.

Again, this is not a knock on your association. I am sure that they are good GMs and conscientious people. I just like to deliver this warning so people realize what they are signing up for.

I keep a list. Anyone who does not show up for an assigned slot without a good reason is not invited to volunteer in any future years.

Glad to hear about the no-show list.

We've had a couple of serious discussions about what it means to be a GM with a furnished room at Gen Con. Luckily, they will have a week before classes begin to recover.

That is why I consider it a job for the young. Personally, I'm happy to pay for my room, pay for my badge, pay for my tickets, and occasionally buy a GM a beer or other beverage of choice. For all of you that volunteer to GM, room or not, thank you!

Did I hear correctly that the above did come to pass, that all the Tier 1 and 2 spaces were indeed filled before the end of the day today?

Holy cow! I can't believe all the Tier 1 and Tier 2 GM volunteer spots have filled already! I don't think that has ever happened on the first day. Wow!

The Monday blog only went up, what? Three, maybe four hours ago. The volunteers are rabid this year. All the hotel rooms have been sold out in Indianapolis. Hope no one got left out in the cold!

Just kidding guys, did that give anyone a little jolt of panic?

We don't have the date for the mini-con yet. We are waiting on the facility to let us know if we get our requested date. I will create the event on the Paizo site and our web site as soon as I receive confirmation of our date.

Thanks to all who joined us! We ran 60 tables of games, including 12 tables during the Siege of the Diamond City! All tiers were represented in the Siege, leading to a very successful conclusion.

We were fortuate to have 3 VOs in attendance, allowing us to host many special events. Thanks to Brett, Nathan and Chris for their many hours of GMing and assistance, and to the students in the Missouri S&T Gaming Association for sponsoring CogCon! We couldn't host such an event without all the GMs who participated, Richard, Sean, Charles, Brad, Greg, Allen, Nick, Jesse, Gregory, Joshua, Eric, Lewis, Becky, Lindsay, Chtis, Karl, Josh, Shawn, and anyone else who pitched in to help.

A special thanks to Joy for all the help at the registration table!

We look forward to our mini-Con in the spring and to next year's CogCon this time next fall!

Sign-ups are going pretty well, and we look forward to more!

Any special request, make sure to let me know! We have plenty f GMs signed up for open play, but I'm certain they would live to prep something!

CogCon 23 is open for registration on our newly updated Warhorn site!

Please help us meet our goal of 15 tables of the awesome PFS Special: Siege of the Diamond City! With such a great event, we know that more players will really make it better!

If you wish to join us, it is only $10 for the weekend (Friday - Sunday), Hotels are inexpensive, most of them include breakfast, and we have a great facility on the Missouri S&T campus.

This is also a great chance to get Bonekeep 1 or 2 in for that PC you've been optimizing!

As always, we are running PFS Opening Gaming. If you have a particular scenario you wish to play, please let us know and we'll find you a GM!

Dark Archive 3/5

Registration for CogCon 23, to be held in Rolla, MO, is OPEN!!!!

Check us our at www.cogcongaming.com for information!

If you are looking for a particular scenario, please let us know so that we can add it to the schedule.

There was a CruiseCon many years ago, back during the 2nd Edition D&D days, they advertised at Origins, Gencon, etc. We didn't have the income back then. It was during the Living Jungle days - so been quite a while.

I did find the JoCo Cruise Crazy 4, which sounds like a blast, but DH and I are already booked on a longer cruise, for the two weeks before. They won't let people start booking for a couple more months. We're considering that in another year or two. We know there will be players on there, since the JCCC group are definitely our kind of people! They even mention gaming on their website!

I was mainly thinking of a couple of slots a day on the sea days, maybe a couple of slots during a couple of evenings, but not really scheduling much on port days. I want to enjoy the sun as well as game!

Either way, I'm throwing the dates and idea out there. If anyone wants specific contact info for my TA, to make sure you get the correct week and line, please PM me and I'll provide it.

Dark Archive 3/5

I agree that it is a great idea, hence I brought it up!

Now, who else is interested in going?

Also, I checked the site for Florida PFS, and I didn't really see a listing of games. Is the site being used much?

Dark Archive 3/5

I think I goofed on the 4-14. I didn't realize it. I'll see what I can do about putting it back. Keep in mind, however, that the first slot and 2nd slot on Friday are really the same slot, one with a slightly later starting time. Some people expressed an interest in starting at 6, but a lot of people can't get here that early. I believe that everyone in 4-14 may have also been signed up for the open slot that overlapped, and I believe we were short a judge for 4-14.

I'll add 3-09 for Friday evening and email those who signed up to see who is good with playing it. I'm also pretty sure that one of the others needs a low tier to play, and he has played very little.

After thinking a lot about offering BuA, we didn't think we had either the space or the attendance to justify it. We don't have the bid room for this one, just a couple of the smaller rooms. It is plenty of space to do 10-14 tables a slot, but not all in one place.

Also, since BuA was run at Game Nite in St Louis, we didn't think we'd get the minimum table count.

We are sailing on Celebrity Equinox Feb 10-21, 2014. I booked through Lisa at Prestige Cruises in Las Vegas, NV. We did get a discount off the fare at Celebrity, as they have a group booked and put us in that group. Most of the time, if you book with a group for a theme cruise, you don't get a discount, but actually pay more because the organizer gets paid a little bit for doing organization. All I'm doing here is seeing if anyone else is interested in visiting the Caribbean in February of 2014 and might want to play PFS on the 4 sea days.

The suggestion of making friends with the cruise director would be a good one on some lines. On Celebrity, we are allowed to post messages on a board for free-form activities and don't need the cruise director's approval. We teach PFS locally, we just thought we'd throw it out to see if anyone else was interested. We don't want to lug along all the stuff we'd need to do a good job teaching the hobby.

I think the lowest cost inside room on the ship will run a person about $1600 with port taxes and hotel service charges, double occupancy. It is a fairly long cruise, and stops at Grand Cayman, Costa Rica, Columbia, Panama, Belize and Cozumel. Keep in mind that cruise prices are like hotel prices, they show you a price, then add on taxes and fees. On the other hand, the food is wonderful and all you care to eat, someone else does all the cooking and cleaning, and you get to enjoy the sun instead of snow in February -at least where I live.

So, if anyone has the capital and vacation days available and wants to go, please let us know! We'd want to work out scenarios and table make-up ahead of time, along with taking turns judging.

DH and I have a cruise booked in February of 2014 and think it would be a blast to spend some time playing PFS on the sea days. Anyone interested? We have an 11 night cruise booked in mid-February on the Celebrity Equinox.

Please note that there would be a significant cost involved, since you'd be responsible for getting to Ft. Lauderdale, then the cruise itself aboard the ship.
